"Advanced Infrastructure Optimizer with challenging configuration requirements."

4/5

What do you like best about IBM Turbonomic?

As a Software Engineer who collaborates with both the Development and the SRE teams, I find Turbonomic to be a valuable tool as it grants visibility and strategic insight to our hybrid cloud infrastructure, which is composed of both AWS and on-prem VMware. Our architecture is complex, as we focus on building internal enterprise applications such as our Human Resource Management System (HRMS), as well as our fully automated billing system. The architecture also utilizes microservices along with Node.JS and Python.

Before Turbonomic, it was mostly guesswork when managing resources for the environments we provisioned. We had to provision more CPU and Memory than required to work around latency issues during peak times. Turbonomic’s solution offers a considerable amount of information pertaining to the resources and how they impact the applications. The solution has also aided managing a lot of things related to Kubernetes pods. It doesn’t show us a single hot node and call it a day. It shows us the various automations it can carry out to ‘remove’ some resource burden by allocating pods and nodes dynamically.

It also addresses the gaps between engineering and operations. If we have to deploy a resource-intensive billing system, the operations team can examine the dependency mapping to understand how the new system impacts the overall infrastructure and what trade-offs can be made in the systems to accommodate the new billing system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Turbonomic?

We can expect this to take considerable time to set up as a connector to all your tools, spanning APM, cloud service providers, Kubernetes, vCenter, etc.

In addition, gathering the many alerts and recommendations produced by the system will take considerable time. The system will become very pushy and nagging if the recommendations are not acted on. For example, one of the recommendations was to downscale a certain number of workers to optimize the cloud resources. One of the workers was used to process background tasks. The recommendation was based on the worker being underutilized on average, but it was actually downscaled the worker that processed the tasks. If time is not spent continually to manage the system, then the system will have to be configured to operate without any automation.

The user interface is probably the biggest hurdle for the non-technical members of the team, and probably the most overwhelming facet of the system, namely that it is not user friendly and gives little indication of your overall system performance versus your cloud costs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IBM Turbonomic solving and how is that benefiting you?

The principal problem that Turbonomic addresses for us is eliminating the waste of resources while consistently meeting performance thresholds. In an enterprise environment, the default engineering thinking when there is a problem is to just throw more hardware at the issue. With Turbonomic, we have objective data to more accurately determine the correct size for AWS instances and the container resources we need.

Our monthly cloud billing has gone down noticeably due to the more accurate sizing. The manual monitoring burden on our DevOps engineers has significantly decreased. In the past, our engineers would need to spend hours looking at the Grafana dashboards for resource bottlenecks. With Turbonomic, the DevOps engineers can be reallocated to more productive activities like application development. The burden of resource monitoring has been taken off of our engineers and placed on Turbonomic, which is a more accurate monitoring solution. Our engineers can focus on the business priorities and core applications instead of dealing with resource allocation and planning activities with much less engagement with the infrastructure planning teams. "Smarter Resource Optimization with Real-Time Automation"

5/5

What do you like best about IBM Turbonomic?

What I like most about IBM Turbonomic is that it automatically optimizes resources based on real application demand, not just metrics. It helps ensure performance while reducing overprovisioning and cloud costs, especially in Kubernetes and hybrid environments. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Turbonomic?

One downside of IBM Turbonomic is that it can feel complex at the beginning. The learning curve is a bit steep, especially when you’re trying to fully understand its decision engine and automation policies.

It can also be expensive for smaller teams, and tuning it properly to align with organizational policies sometimes requires careful configuration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IBM Turbonomic solving and how is that benefiting you?

IBM Turbonomic solves the problem of resource imbalance in complex environments where workloads are constantly changing.

In most cloud and Kubernetes setups, you either overprovision to avoid performance issues or underprovision and risk outages. Turbonomic continuously analyzes real-time demand and makes precise scaling or right-sizing decisions.

For me, the benefit is:

1. Reduced cloud costs by eliminating overprovisioned CPU and memory

2. Better application performance without manual tuning

3. Less time spent firefighting resource issues

4. More confidence in automated scaling decisions

It basically removes the guesswork from capacity planning and performance optimization. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable Infrastructure Optimization for Modern DevOps Teams"

4/5

What do you like best about IBM Turbonomic?

I like that Turbonomic goes beyond basic monitoring by providing automated resource optimization. It helps ensure applications get the right amount of CPU and memory, while also avoiding over-provisioning. Its Kubernetes and cloud integrations make it especially useful in modern DevOps environments. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Turbonomic?

The learning curve can feel steep at first, and making sense of all the optimization actions takes some familiarity with infrastructure and Kubernetes. For beginners, the interface and underlying concepts may come across as complex and a bit overwhelming initially. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IBM Turbonomic solving and how is that benefiting you?

IBM Turbonomic helps address over-provisioned and under-utilized infrastructure by continuously analyzing application demand and automatically optimizing how resources are allocated. Rather than manually tweaking CPU, memory, or scaling policies, the platform recommends or can execute actions that keep performance steady while cutting unnecessary cloud and infrastructure costs. For me, this means less time spent on manual tuning and more confidence that my applications are running efficiently without overspending. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"AI-Driven Efficiency, But Steep Learning Curve"

4.5/5

What do you like best about IBM Turbonomic?

I really appreciate how IBM Turbonomic reduces the bill for our clients without them needing to get involved in all the technical details. It's pretty neat how this tool has helped us build trust with our clients, enabling them to scale their companies with more tools from us. In a sort of indirect way, this has boosted growth for both our business and our clients' businesses. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Turbonomic?

So I think the biggest hurdle with it is its steep learning curve and initial configuration complexity which can delay the time-to-value for clients when they always expect instant results. While the core of the platform, which is AI, is really awesome, but the reporting and dashboarding thing is really rigid, making it difficult for me to present some high-level business-centric KPIs that I have to mostly present and is asked for. So I need a lot of manual data work to do while implementing and generating KPIs. Similarly, the licensing cost is really high and tough for those small-scale Salesforce implementations that makes me unable to pitch this tool for them. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IBM Turbonomic solving and how is that benefiting you?

IBM Turbonomic's AI-driven autopilot optimizes resource allocation in real-time, balancing performance and cost-efficiency. It eliminates over-provisioning guesswork, reduces client cloud bills, and maintains high application speed, fostering client trust and business growth while ending 'war room' culture. "AI-Driven Automation That Optimizes Hybrid Cloud Resources with IBM Turbomic"

4.5/5

What do you like best about IBM Turbonomic?

The AI-driven automation that continuously optimizes resource allocation across our hybrid cloud environment. We used to multiple iterations of performance testing to find the optimised value of CPU, Memory threesholds for our HPA which can be avoided now by leveraging IBM Turbomic in production. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Turbonomic?

Steep learning curve and requires significant configuration time to get started. The interface could be more intuitive for new users. For Eg - Datadogs or ArgoCD dashboards are more intutive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IBM Turbonomic solving and how is that benefiting you?

For every application or service that we want to deploy, we use HPA for the scaling part in production. We have to do multiple iterations of performance testing to find the threeshold values of CPU and memory utilisation and min, max replica to provide to devops which they can configure in the HPA for the application to scale in production. This is a very resource and cost intensive process as we have to simulate the production traffic scenario multiple times this is replaced by IBM Turbonomic as it directly predicts these values based on previous utilization metrics of other applications and only 1-2 iterations are sufficient to come to the optimum configuarion. I find the single-pane visibility across hybrid and multicloud environments incredibly useful, providing a clear, end-to-end view of applications, VMs, containers, and cloud resources in one place. This makes planning and troubleshooting much faster and eliminates the need to juggle multiple tools and spreadsheets. I also find the initial setup pretty straightforward; if you are using the SaaS version or the Virtual Appliance for on-prem, getting it running is very streamlined. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Turbonomic?

I dislike the limited third-party integrations with IBM Turbonomic. Some users report missing or shallow integrations with certain niche tools or cloud services, which forces manual workarounds or the use of custom scripts. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Proactive Cloud Optimization with Excellent Resource Management"

4/5

What do you like best about IBM Turbonomic?

I like that IBM Turbonomic keeps applications responsive without any manual testing. It prevents cloud overspend and reduces licensing costs. I appreciate how it continuously analyzes workloads and automatically adjusts the resources so there is no slowdown during traffic spikes. Instead of waiting for alerts or outages, it predicts resource needs and acts before users notice the issue. The setup was easy, which made getting started hassle-free. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Turbonomic?

The dashboard could be more robust. Customization options are limited, and it sometimes doesn't provide the depth of insight needed for complex environments. While it integrates well with major platforms like VMware and AWS, some users find it less flexible with niche or customized applications. The UI can feel dated and somewhat complex. A more modern, intuitive interface with streamlined navigation would make adoption easier, especially for teams new to application resource management. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Turbonomic Ends App vs. Infra Finger-Pointing and Automates Rightsizing"

4/5

What do you like best about IBM Turbonomic?

The best thing about Turbonomic is that it finally stops the constant finger-pointing between our app and infra teams. It acts as an unbiased referee, showing exactly where the bottlenecks are so we don't waste time in 'war room' meetings. I also love that it handles the 'zombie VMs' and weekend rightsizing automatically. We had to spend a few weeks tuning the policies to get it right, but now it’s basically an extra set of hands that keeps our cloud bill from spiking. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Turbonomic?

The UI feels pretty dated and it's honestly a bit of a maze,I usually have to click through four different screens just to find a basic performance metric. Also, the initial setup was a massive headache because the default auto-pilot settings are way too aggressive. If you don't spend weeks tuning the policies first, it’ll try to move critical VMs in the middle of a workday. It's a powerful tool, but it's definitely not 'plug-and-play' and the price tag is pretty steep for smaller teams. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IBM Turbonomic solving and how is that benefiting you?

The main thing it solves is the constant 'tug-of-war' between our dev teams wanting more power and finance breathing down our necks about the AWS bill. It basically acts as an automated referee that moves workloads or shrinks instances before they start wasting money. For me, it means I don’t have to spend my Monday mornings manually hunting for 'zombie' servers or over-provisioned VMs that someone forgot to turn off. It’s a huge relief to have a tool that actually executes the changes instead of just sending me another long list of alerts to ignore. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful VM Optimization, But Expect a Learning Curve and Setup Ramp-Up"

3.5/5

What do you like best about IBM Turbonomic?

We've been using Turbonomic for a few months now, and it has been a solid experience. What stands out the most to me is how it optimizes VM resources; it removes much of the guesswork involved in right-sizing. Before this, our team spent a lot of time manually reviewing resource allocation, and it was easy to overlook things. Now Turbonomic flags issues and provides clear recommendations, which makes everything simpler.

The performance management features have also been helpful. Being able to identify bottlenecks before they become problems is something I didn't realize I would appreciate so much. It allows us to be more proactive instead of always reacting to issues.

We're still in the early stages of using the tool, so I'm sure there is much more we have yet to explore. Even at this point, it is already proving to be valuable for our environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Turbonomic?

The biggest challenge for us has honestly been the learning curve. It's not a tool you can just plug in and immediately understand. There’s a lot to it, and it takes time to get comfortable. Our team has mostly been figuring things out on our own, which has sometimes been a slow process.

The onboarding and initial setup were also more involved than we expected. We thought it would be fairly straightforward, but we encountered a few hurdles that took more time than we anticipated.

The documentation is another area that could improve. When you're trying to find answers quickly, it can be hit or miss. Sometimes, what you're looking for isn’t explained as clearly as you’d like, or you have to search around quite a bit to find the right information.

None of these are deal breakers for us. I think once we’re more settled into the tool, it’ll be worth it. However, for anyone coming in without a dedicated implementation resource, be prepared for a bit of a ramp-up period. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IBM Turbonomic solving and how is that benefiting you?

The two main areas where we see value are reducing wasted resources and freeing up our team's time. Before Turbonomic, much of the resource optimization work was done manually. Someone had to sit down, review utilization, identify what was oversized or undersized, and then take action. This process is time-consuming, and often tasks like this get pushed down the priority list when the team is busy with other work.

Turbonomic removes that burden by automatically surfacing recommendations, so we don’t have to search for inefficiencies ourselves. From a cloud spending perspective, we are beginning to see where we've been over-provisioning. The tool is helping us adjust those resources, which should lead to cost savings over time.

We are still in the early stages, so I can’t provide specific numbers yet, but the direction looks promising. Just having better visibility into where resource waste is occurring is a significant step forward for us. I believe that as we become more comfortable with the platform and act on more of the recommendations, the benefits will become clearer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Strong Cloud Optimization with a Steep Learning Curve"

3.5/5

What do you like best about IBM Turbonomic?

I find IBM Turbonomic to be an easy solution for cloud optimization. It automates resource management, optimizes cloud operations, and leads to significant cost savings. The new HTML5 interface presents data very nicely. I also appreciate the ability to enforce policies without managing individual VMs. Additionally, IBM Turbonomic integrates with monitoring tools we already had in place, helping with visibility and resource decisions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Turbonomic?

I think it's complex for new users and they need documentation to use this service. It feels a bit overwhelming at first, especially for new users. A simpler onboarding flow, step-by-step setup guide, and more real-world examples in the documentation would help a lot. Some short tutorial videos or use-case based walkthroughs would make it easier to understand the recommendations and policies without digging through long docs. The cost is hard to justify for us, so our system administrators will need to manage resources manually. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IBM Turbonomic solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use IBM Turbonomic to automate resource management, optimize cloud operations, and achieve significant cost savings. It integrates with our existing tools, helping with visibility and resource decisions, enhancing what we previously did manually. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
