## About IBM MQ
IBM MQ connects applications and microservices in private datacenters, across hybrid or multi-cloud environments, and at the edge of the enterprise. It allows businesses, from large enterprises to startups, to ensure every order, every payment, and every customer interaction counts. Messages between applications are delivered reliably once-and-only-once and applications are decoupled to enable rapid response to sudden traffic increases or system outages. Businesses can tap into the value of existing mission-critical data to gain real-time insights and ensure the safety of customer and business data with comprehensive security mechanisms.

## IBM MQ Reviews
  ### 1. engineering manager

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** victor m. | engineer manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM MQ?**

the rtechnical and user both have interaction using the product. when an issue is present we cn easily work with technical support but this requires a lot of error messaging not related to MQ. there should be more messaging that can be provided without MQ having the issue.

**What do you dislike about IBM MQ?**

the messaging sometimes not related to MQ and we end up spending a lot of time in our triage. the product should have a transformation to be more user friendly. The MQ team always in the heart of our triage and a lot of times not MQ related.

**What problems is IBM MQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

mainframe solutions

  ### 2. MQ as an Heterogeneous Enterprise Integration Asset

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John E. | DLA Enterprise MQ Lead, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM MQ?**

The flexibility, feature set, and widespread use of the product in the industry has allowed it to be a defacto standard in this technology.

**What do you dislike about IBM MQ?**

Maintaining technical relevance as an administrator is becoming difficult with the amalgamated peripheral technologies being added to the base product.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM MQ:**

MQ is not freeware, but as a result, it is well supported, well designed, technically superior to most competing products. It requires considerable administrative attention, but the benefits outweigh the complexity requirements.

**What problems is IBM MQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Multi-agency / Military service interoperability and integration between messaging partners who do not have a singe hierarchical management structure.

  ### 3. MQ still does an awesome job getting your transactional data where it needs to go, exactly once!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Warehousing | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM MQ?**

Full backward compatability in a product that is evolving to meet customer needs in the connected cloud world.

**What do you dislike about IBM MQ?**

Competitive analysis of products that aren't even trying to provide anything like each other, but someone shouts out that product 1 is 5 times faster than product 2, but doesn't say that the quality of service was different, or product 1 was fully tuned by company specialists, but product 2 was a default install out of the box on a laptop.

**What problems is IBM MQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

High performance reliable once and once only delivery of business critical messages across a distributed messaging mesh. The business can use the delivery mesh to ensure delivery of the ordering and billing messages, and therefore doesn't need to build complex and expensive error recovery code into the application layer.

  ### 4. Product Review - IBM MQ on Cloud

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ajay G. | Frontend Developer, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2018

**What do you like best about IBM MQ?**

There are 2 things which i like the most about IBM MQ on cloud.
Firstly, you can have a multi cloud connectivity or I say we were using Public and Private cloud together.
Another thing, Pay for what you use. You can quickly scale up the message queues as per the demand. Let's say you know some festival season is coming , then that time you can scale up to handle those requests.
Another thing you can easily integrate with the language you are using. It provides a great range of API's and multiple language supports like Nodejs,Go, Python, etc.
One of the main things when we are dealing with data is Persistency. So you don't have to worry about the data as it's persistent.

**What do you dislike about IBM MQ?**

I didn't find how to enable the horizontal auto scaling so that i don't have to manually scale the messaging workers.
Another thing, when you are dealing with high rate of messages you can see a bit of lag as well or I say you can see the effect on the performance.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM MQ:**

Companies which want to setup a multi cloud enterprise messaging should use this product.
It's really easy to setup and you can do a small POC to try at a very basic level.

**What problems is IBM MQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were trying to setup a messaging channel for the application across different clouds or say multi cloud connectivity with a secured and reliable setup.

  ### 5. MQ Possibility

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Greg S. | Sr. Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM MQ?**

When we looked into using MQ with our B2B Integrator setup, we really liked the speed and throughput it would give us over our traditional file system-based transfer methods. The replay-ability was great and we were really excited about the possiblity of using it.

**What do you dislike about IBM MQ?**

We do a lot of FIFO (98 % of data) and we were unable to get the customer isolation we wanted using MQ and the built in SI FIFO queues.

**What problems is IBM MQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Getting rid of the use of file systems for transferring data back and forth.

  ### 6. IBM MFT is good for our use case

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nash G. | Application Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM MQ?**

MQ provides a decent solution for file transfers. Transfers are generally fast.

**What do you dislike about IBM MQ?**

MFT seems like a bit of an after thought at times. There are a not a lot of exciting features for MFT announced. We have had issues with bugs and transfers not going through but there doesn't seem to be logs written.

**What problems is IBM MQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need to move many large files across different platforms, data centers, and storage nodes. IBM MQ helps us to do this quickly and securely.

  ### 7. More than messages and queues

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Transportation/Trucking/Railroad | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM MQ?**

MQ can be run on every operating system there is and allows you to send messages or data to anywhere else. It lets you send to multiple destinations too or can be used for publish and subscribe, you can even send to the cloud. Messages can be persistent so they are saved over a system crash.

**What do you dislike about IBM MQ?**

MQ means you have to connect to a queue and then send so if you only send one message thats two steps but if you want to send a lot of data it is easy to just keep sending.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM MQ:**

You can use it with cloud now :-)

**What problems is IBM MQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sending messages or data reliably from many places to one or many places.

  ### 8. VEry reliable

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** rick s. | infrastruction analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM MQ?**

We use MQ to transfer hundreds of millions of messages reliably over zOs, Unix/linux and windows. 100+ application areas use MQ for both app to app messaging and for db2 replication. We have been using MQ for over 20 years.

**What do you dislike about IBM MQ?**

There isn't a great deal of issues that we have. probably an easy to use monitoring and alerting tool would be more useful.

**What problems is IBM MQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

data replication, app to app messaging.

  ### 9. Key tool for messaging and one to look at even as you move to new technology stacks

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John N. | Executive director, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2019

**What do you like best about IBM MQ?**

MQ has kep space with the times moving into cloud based (both private and public cloud) environments and is still a key tool in managing messaging between apps and environments.

**What do you dislike about IBM MQ?**

Setup and configuration is still painful but increasingly easy with scripts and setups on the cloud management platforms.

**What problems is IBM MQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Still the key messaging protocol between our legacy mainframe and also new apps being developed.

  ### 10. Integration Architect

Wide platform support to integrate almost any-to-any

**What do you dislike about IBM MQ?**

Did not transform with the industry to support API. Now enterprises are using MQ, but are forced to build custom application layers or use additional products like Datapower and such to provide http endpoints.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM MQ:**

IBM should help existing investment to be useful

**What problems is IBM MQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Integration into legacy M/F applications and thus leveraging core business apps developed earlier.

As a 14+ year user of IBM MQ, the feature I like the most is the continuation of features available in the first versions.

**What do you dislike about IBM MQ?**

Beyond the basic functionality (queues, channels, listeners, etc) sometimes IBM MQ is not bug-free. An example is the use of multi-instance queue managers and NFS v4 shared file system.

**What problems is IBM MQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have built an elaborate solution for a healthcare customer that uses MQ to carry messages from front-end systems to the back-end. Examples are a message when a patient is admitted to a hospital and when lab results are delivered to a doctor.

IBM MQ is very easy to use and helps the business to reduce the complexities by connecting applications through channels and retrieving messages through queues. The cluster facility helps in managing the MQ objects anywhere in the cluster. Easy administration and Easy for the business to send the data.

**What do you dislike about IBM MQ?**

There are no findings for me to let you know about dislikes but in my experience when I have done the MQ for z/OS migration from V 7.1 to V 9 we faced an issues with the application on the distributed side where they were using the MQ version as V 7.0.1. The SVRCONN channel on the Z/OS side connects to distributed side application and the clients were not compatible. However the application team have written a code to mitigate the issue after a long brainstorming sessions about the issue. IBM can help such customers by providing an alternatives for establishing connections through PTFs on the z/OS side and patches on the distributed client side.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM MQ:**

Use this product where any one are looking for sending the data from one system to another as MQ would take care of the data conversion. It might help you to reduce the system complexities.
