The IBM iSeries is not only powerful but also extremely resilient. with 100% uptime, who can argue with statistics of this level. Also, no known malware or viruses in the wild I am aware of so one of the more secure server solutions available. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The interface is not for everyone and involves learning the IBM lingo, abbreviations and alphabetty spaghetti That said nothing too advanced here so don't worry about any steep learning curve the basics will be picked up very quickly and does not need the prior knowledge of any other programming language although SQL will come in handy for pulling reports from the back end. I like how easy it is to set up the OS and maintain dataQ for various users as well as production reports which needs to be printed. Database is flexible and hardware performance is great for day to day workflow management. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
API is kind of old and navigation is very static. The OS support for external application to the cloud or digital signature and automation stuff is very hard to integrate. Also, if you have network printer all over the place then manually managing and configuring each printer with its associated dataQ is very time consuming. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have been an IBM i programmer for the past 25 years. I like it because it's very reliable server. Always up 24/7, no downtime, unless you perform an occasional maintenance. The hardware architecture is very secure. IBM i can't be infected by a PC virus. Viruses cannot hide in RPG and CL programs or physical and logical files. You can also use the IBM i as a server for other applications like SAP. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There's nothing I dislike about the machine. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It’s clear and concise and keep everything for the project organized. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
During sometimes of the upload process of Submittals and RFI’s it can be slower than normal. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We love our IBM i systems. They work 24x7x365 and don't need much over site by an operations staff. The hardware and software are all supported by IBM. Responsiveness by IBM support is great. The hardware runs all the time and does not have to be reset like windows based systems on a regular basis. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
IBM timing on phasing out hardware has increased in the last few years. Hardware only 5 years old is getting put off service eligibility. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
IBM i (we call it ERPLX in our organization) is an incredibly flexible program. Within itself it includes dozens of programs, so much so that it is almost a one stop shop for anything related to order entry, invoicing, shipping, and inventory management. Being of an older design similar to a console, it tends to run fairly quickly as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Every keystroke must be specifically what the program expects, otherwise it will lock up rather than ignore the irrelevant stroke. It can crash easy. It's very unforgiving to the new user. It is so powerful that a small error can cause a tremendous problem downstream. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
