  ### 3. Cloudant for a distributed offline first app.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joshua B. | Site Supervisor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 10, 2021

**What do you like best about IBM Cloudant?**

Setting up databases in IBM Cloudant is fast and easy.

Most of the CouchDB API is implemented.

Cloudant is likely the best CouchDB replacement on the market. It is compatible with PouchDB and other CouchDB clients.

**What do you dislike about IBM Cloudant?**

The documentation could be more detailed. Some features are not described at all.

Functions pertaining local couch documents are not available. For example, you cant list local documents.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM Cloudant:**

Make sure to optimize your document structures to save on cost. While the Cloudant service is excellent in itself it's also pricey and therefore needs planning to assure that no unnecessary costs are generated.

**What problems is IBM Cloudant solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used IBM Cloudant for a distributed offline first app. It was important to us that we had a master-master database that enabled us to have write access even when no internet connection was available.

  ### 4. IBM Cloudant - a perfect solution for distributing data!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John L. | Translation Consultant - I served in both part-time and full-time capacities since 2007., Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM Cloudant?**

The best thing about IBM Cloudant is the peace of mind that comes from knowing that our data is safe, geographically near where it will be accessed, and is being professionally maintained/monitored by qualified data engineers who know their stuff and who can alert you to any issues that arise.

**What do you dislike about IBM Cloudant?**

As far as I can tell, there are no downsides!

**Recommendations to others considering IBM Cloudant:**

It's the perfect solution for database as a Service applications!

**What problems is IBM Cloudant solving and how is that benefiting you?**

IBM Cloudant was my first exposure to using a non-relational database as a service (DBaaS). My experience with non-SQL data storage, structuring, manipulation and retrieval was very limited at that time, and I wasn’t sure about “outsourcing” our sensitive data. I found Cloudant easy to use. The built-in resources and JIT support services were amazing. Support personnel provided necessary clarifications and never condescended to this “newbie.”

  ### 5. Reliable no sql db

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 04, 2021

**What do you like best about IBM Cloudant?**

For our customer, we needed to develop a complete cloud solution. We needed a database, but SQL DB was too strict about performing our goals.
After spent a little bit of time in R&D, we decided to adopt cloudant.
IBM provides a complete managed service, so you not have to care about configuration.
Despite SQL DB, you did not have to manage a strict data structure, but you are free to customize data structure according to your requirements.
GUI is straightforward. Just a few clicks and you can begin to work.
IBM also manages replica so that you can build a very reliable solution into the cloud.
Forget zero downtime.
You can also find very complete documentation on the IBM cloud. Many examples explain what you could do and how you could do
IBM provides several SDK so you can build solutions using node js, java, etc.
There is also an online navigator which allows you to explore your data. You don't need third part tools to connect to cloudant .You can do everything in your browser

**What do you dislike about IBM Cloudant?**

There is not something disliked, but i spent a little bit of time understanding the price model. I had some difficulty comprehending the query price plan.
Consider every customer wants to know "how much cost it" before starting.
Many times i had to read couch DB documentation to learn something.
Cloudant doc is quite complete, but many times i had to search information using couch DB documentation

**Recommendations to others considering IBM Cloudant:**

It's hard to give a recommendation for a product. But if you are looking for a no SQL DB, if you don't want to use MongoDB but you want something similar, IBM cloudant is the right product.
You can leverage your knowledge in node js to write queries, if you've already other IBM services you have not to change cloud vendor to find other solution.
By the way, spend a little bit of your time trying it before selling it to your customer.

**What problems is IBM Cloudant solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Just only one answer."Time to market".In the first phase of the project, we changed many times our data structure to adapt to our requirements. Cloudant allows you to change data structure without destroying db.Do you need one more field? No problem, add it.No SQL script to adapt. You only have to change and "old data" keeps on working as well as the new.
Do you need a system administrator to manage your instance? Answer is "no".
You can log in to your account and perform commons operations without needing help from an administrator.
Talk about support. In case you should face a problem, you have two options:
1) doing by yourself
2) ask support to IBM

According to my experience, Last option is the best
I had to deliver a product no spend time to solve the administration problem.
So support is super fast, you must open chat, provide customer id and in a couple of minutes someone of support will help you to solve the problem

  ### 6. Provision an instance in seconds, no operational concerns, reduced time to market

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 20, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM Cloudant?**

It is extremely simple to create an instance and get it running.
Therefore, the effort required to develop a scalable, performant application or proof of concept can shrink significantly.

On top of that, Cloudant provides some capabilities that distinguish the product in the no-SQL landscape, such as full-text search and geospatial queries.

**What do you dislike about IBM Cloudant?**

The creation of complex queries can be a difficult task at first, especially in an environment more used to relational databases and SQL editors/sytax.
When the complexity of the project increases, more attention must be paid in the writing and maintenance of less obvious views.

Another drawback may be represented by a combination of cost and fit to the use case.
It may be stated that Cloudant is more expensive than other no-SQL solutions. I personally disagree with this statement, in the sense that Cloudant provides several features (both functional and non-functional) that contribute to its cost.
Nevertheless, if the use case does not benefit from any Cloudant's specific capabilities, then comparable results for the customers may be achieved with other, generally less expensive options.

**What problems is IBM Cloudant solving and how is that benefiting you?**

By leveraging Cloudant's ease of use it is possible to flatten the time and effort required to deliver a proof of concept or MVP.
Basically, Cloudant makes a breeze to start developing an application guaranteeing scalability and performance with minimal effort and no operational concerns.

So, a first benefit of Cloudant is the removal of effort and costs related to storage provisioning, database application development and planning for scalability.

Then, depending on the use case, Cloudant's specific capabilities may be leveraged.
For example, a solution involving the storage of text document files may benefit from the full-text search capability built upon the Apache Lucene APIs, which is the search index used by state-of-the-art engines such as SOLR or IBM Watson Explorer Analytical Components, allowing an easy and more efficient search among the text content of the indexed documents.

  ### 7. Easy to use NoSQL Database

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mayur B. | Technical Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 25, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM Cloudant?**

Works really well in combination with other IBM services like openwhisk however it is very easy to use same with Aws services like lambda with help from @cloudant nmp package.

**What do you dislike about IBM Cloudant?**

It takes a bit of time to get used with it’s indexing and querying feature.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM Cloudant:**

I must say it is worth giving a try while you are evaluating different options of NoSQL databases. I am sure you will be able to use it for your requirement.

**What problems is IBM Cloudant solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using Cloudant we wanted to achieve flexibility of database design, using that we were able to have benefit of maintaining e.g. payments status information.

  ### 8. A really nice NoSQL database

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Deekshith M. | Software Enginner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM Cloudant?**

The one thing that I personally noticed about Cloudant is its not only a best choice for a NoSQL database but also an ideal fit for applications that handles geo-coordinates. For example, USGS applications.

**What do you dislike about IBM Cloudant?**

This isn't something about the database itself. There could've been better video content made available for the users.

**Recommendations to others considering IBM Cloudant:**

Overall it's a good choice for NoSQL database.

**What problems is IBM Cloudant solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used this for a personal project of mine, which analyses the earthquakes data from the USGS API. I found the filters for latitude and longitude very useful to retrieve the objects that fall under the circle I'm looking for.

  ### 9. Smooth UI and easy to work with even as a beginner

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kopal S. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2020

**What do you like best about IBM Cloudant?**

The best thing I liked about Cloudant was the easy navigations and the ease with which I could pull out the data.

**What do you dislike about IBM Cloudant?**

One thing which I didn't like was that anyone with the credentials could make changes to the database. May be there should be some version control inside of Cloudant where a manager or admin can only approve the changes, if at all required.

**What problems is IBM Cloudant solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In my previous organization, I used IBM Cloudant to store documents of chatbot's conversations to provide solutions step by step. The documents were written in HTML/CSS format to show a little UI.

  ### 10. IBM cloudant is very easy in operations.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pankaj C. | Sr. Android Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2021

**What do you like best about IBM Cloudant?**

Query execution time is less as compared to AWS.

**What do you dislike about IBM Cloudant?**

I am facing some difficulties in indexing.

**What problems is IBM Cloudant solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Very easy integration with node JS, Facing issues with AWS but nothing with IBM Cloudant.
