I was looking for a headless CMS solution, and I have tried all the competitors. I originally thought Hygraph would not meet my requirements, because I was trying to add specific styling to different pieces of content and finally realized that I can create as many blocks as I want, and in my front-end I can style each block individually. It is super fast, the scheduling and webhooks help make everything super smooth. I originally only wanted to build "blog" type of posts in there, but I ended up moving our carousel management on it and I plan to move other things too. It took me just a few days to have everything working in a development environment. For most small projects, the free plan will be sufficient. They give you a LOT for free. I would love to be able to embed my own images. Right now, you need to use their asset system.
I also wish there was a smaller monthly plan. Moving from free to 199$/m seems a bit high.
I also find that localization is very expensive, I would not use this project for something that needs to be localized in multiple languages. On our website, we support 10+ languages, which means if we used the localization option, it would cost us thousands of dollars. Crowdin costs at least 10x less and supports unlimited languages, so theoritically you could manage your translations outside of Hygraph but it defeats the purpose. Unfortunately, there are more things to dislike:
- It lacks such a basic feature as content duplication, which is terrible! When we have an array with items that have identical data and differ in only one element, you still have to input it 20 times!
- Singletons! Oh my, why is this important feature missing? Sometimes, and even often, it's necessary to create a model that allows setting globals like Navigation, Footer, etc.
- Conditionals: It's great that they exist, but they need refinement. When you don't select a value in the Enum that is used as the basis for multiple conditionals, they all show up.
- There's no option to group components, enums, models, etc., in the Schema view. When you have a larger number of them, they start to overwhelm the screen.
- Why, if I want to create an array of some objects, do I have to create a special new component for that? It's very cumbersome and unnecessarily consumes the maximum number of components! This essentially makes it impossible to implement a larger site that allows the dynamic creation of subpages based on the design system introduced into the CMS.
- If a component is required and it’s a single component, the options within that component should be available to fill in immediately, not only after clicking the “add” button.
- There should be an option to create enums with a local scope, not just a global one. Global enums are also nice, but there's a lack of local scope options.
- This is not a crucial feature, but it would simplify CMS implementation for developers: the ability to define schemas directly in code, as done by PayloadCMS, Sanity, or TinaCMS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
