**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

I like that Human Interest connects with payroll to automate contributions and provides investment options. It handles all the paperwork and offers employee dashboards, making it easy for employees to look up their contributions. It makes offering a 401k easier for a smaller company with less paperwork. The setup was very easy through Quickbooks.

Changes to contributions take 1-3 pay cycles to update; it should be automatic.

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

I really like Human Interest because the interface is pretty intuitive, making it easy to use for each employee. As an employer, I appreciate that it's integrated with our payroll system, which makes it very easy to implement and manage. The whole 401(k) management process is very simple, and each employee can choose their contribution in their portfolio. The initial setup was easy and fast, which I was happy with.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

The only thing maybe that was not always 100% clear for me was the date of the invoicing of the cost. And the second point was for the first payroll and the first deduction, there was a small glitch because of a delay in the payroll.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Human Interest to simplify managing the 401(k) for each employee. It allows easy contribution choices and fully integrates with our payroll, making it simple to implement and manage.

Human Interest has made managing our company retirement plan straightforward and efficient. As an employer, I regularly use the platform to oversee our 401(k) for the team, and I find it very intuitive and easy to navigate. The automated payroll integrations save a considerable amount of time with each pay cycle, and both employees and administrators remain well-informed through clear dashboards and timely reminders. I also value the transparent fee structure and the dedicated support provided during onboarding.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

Setting up the platform for our company took more time than we anticipated, and a few of the onboarding steps could have been explained more clearly. Additionally, I feel that the reporting features would benefit from greater customization, particularly for employers interested in analyzing contribution trends or exporting more detailed plan data. That said, after the initial setup was complete, the platform has been easy and smooth to use.

Human Interest has enabled us to provide a competitive 401(k) plan without the usual administrative hassle or high expenses associated with traditional providers. The enrollment steps were not too clear; onboarding staff was missing in action. There was poor communication, with no responses provided after multiple emails were sent out, and when a response finally came, it was just to inform that somebody else would be handling it.

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

As a small start up, having the ability to offer a 401(k) plan to attract employees is vital. There were not many options in this space that made it so seamless and easy to not only set up, but manage the plan. Their UX/UI was carefully crafted and makes adding this benefit for employees not a drain on time and resources of management. They are very hands on when needed, providing updates and tasks required. The platform is simple to use and easy for employees to sign up, modify, and even rollover if they leave and decide to make a change. The support and team are top notch and have always followed up on anything that needed a deeper dive for an employee.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

I'm sitting here, trying to think of the downsides of using Human Interest or something I dislike. There is nothing I can think of other than maybe a branding name change. I do have to explain that Human Interest is the 401(k) plan, as most people are used to seeing Fidelity, Vanguard etc. The name comes across to some as a social cause or way to do charitable donations.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I was a start up, there were not many options to be able to offer a 401(k) plan at an affordable cost to our team. Human Interest solved that problem with simplicity and an incredible platform. Without Human Interest, employees would only be able to contribute to an IRA or Roth with contribution limits significantly lower than what the 401(k) provides. It also keeps us competitive when recruiting employees.

The employee portals are simple but engaging, with useful features and tools. We find the auto-enrollment and auto-increase features to be particularly valuable. Overall, the integration with our payroll service was seamless and adds to its functionality. We appreciate that Human Interest communicates each progress step of payroll contributions as they occur.

The first payroll that I ran, they made a mistake and deducted my 401k from the check. The more details are that they took money out of my check, and it was never deposited into the 401k. It wasn't a serious issue, but it was annoying.

The representatives I worked with were all very friendly and knowledgeable.  They made setup of 401k products very easy, and made the rollover from another company as easy as it could have been,  Integrations with Gusto are seamless, and everything runs on time.  The interface is easy to use and understand.

I have not experienced anything negative.

We were using another service that constantly made errors, then tried to charge a fee to fix the errors they created.  Human interest is not doing that, which is by far the greatest benefit to peace to mind.

The pricing structure is transparent, and the fees are lower than those of many traditional 401(k) providers, making it a cost-effective choice for small and mid-sized businesses. The platform is intentionally designed for ease of use, which works well for simple plans, but it may seem limiting for organizations with more complex requirements, such as custom eligibility rules, unique vesting schedules, or the need to manage multiple entities. Following implementation, the ongoing communication and relationship management can feel insufficient, leaving some users wishing for more consistent support as their company’s needs change.

Human Interest addresses a major challenge faced by small and mid-sized companies: making it straightforward and affordable to offer a 401(k) plan without the usual administrative hassle. By automating tasks such as payroll integration, contributions, and compliance filings, they have removed much of the manual, time-consuming work that often burdens HR and Finance teams. The platform streamlines plan setup, maintains regulatory compliance, and gives employees an easy way to manage their retirement savings. Personally, this has allowed me to dedicate more time to strategic People Operations projects instead of dealing with paperwork or coordinating between different vendors. I like how Human Interest integrates with QuickBooks, which allows me to seamlessly deduct 401k without having to leave QuickBooks. It was a cost-free solution that was easy to setup and has worked without a hitch. I found it through my payroll setup within QuickBooks, and it was included in my QuickBooks fees, making it a win.

I do not know of any at this time, but at a glance it may be the investment options & return rates...I have not compared, but seem lower.

The company makes it very easy to understand. All of the payments and deposits are automated, and this makes it valuable because it saves me time. The initial setup of Human Interest was very easy and smooth.

The website prompts me to fill out employee census info once in a while that I already had filled out- which seems a bit confusing.

I like how simple everything has been with Human Interest. Their online system is really easy to use, and it integrates directly with our payroll. It has essentially made everything really easy because we didn't have to set anything up or do anything, and every time we run payroll, everything is just automatically done for us. The initial setup was extremely easy and everything was done in a matter of days, which was fantastic given our tight deadline for tax reasons. Everything went really smooth.

The only issue that we've had is getting some of the permissions right for our bookkeeper to be able to see what deductions are being taken out and how to reconcile that back to the books. It would be nice if there was just an easy way to add a bookkeeper or share access directly with Human Interest, or through Gusto, our payroll provider. It's a bit unclear where the issue lies.

Setting up a 401(k) has a surprising amount of legal complexity and HI helped us navigate it pretty quickly. The onboarding specialist was able to field all of my difficult questions. As an owner and employee, I was pleased with the rollover support when things went askew with my previous provider.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

Let me first say that Human Interest seems to do the hard things well.

While HI offers many investment options, your particular business may be too small to access many of them due to minimum investment sizes. This is not a Human Interest policy so no other provider is going to be able to do any better for you. I would have liked to have seen the number of choices immediately suitable for us as most fund minimums are either $3,000 or $50,000 and not in between so it should not be too challenging to find this number. Initially we were given an incorrect list of investments and so after researching and making selections were told none of the options were available, which I found a little frustrating. 

But these two problems are related and could both be solved with a simple tool inside the platform which would show you available investments filtered by fund minimums. Then, allow that to populate any paperwork required instead of me copying and pasting it manually. 

This is a rather minor product improvement for them that I would expect them to get to eventually.

I wanted to offer a full-featured 401(k) plan to our small business of <10 employees. HI fits the bill.

Support quality can be uneven during busy periods, and response times vary, the AI assistant sometimes makes mistakes which makes it less reliable. Sync with BambooHR is great but can backfire - it assumes that everyone who is in the system is eligible for 401K which is not always the case and requires manual unenrollment

Human Interest removes most of the 401(k) friction for a small professional firm. It automates payroll deductions and employer matches, handles compliance tasks like eligibility tracking, notices, testing, and provides a simple employee portal so staff can enroll and adjust contributions without HR help. The result is less manual data entry, fewer errors, predictable costs, and faster onboarding for new hires. The onboarding agents and process was smooth and highly efficient.  Everybody that we've talked to from Human Interest have been professional and very personable.  

Integrating our policy from our former provider was effortless on our part (apart from a few forms).  They really took the wheel in handling everything.

Using the administrative tools on their website have been nothing like I've experienced before with our 401(K) providers.  The platform is superb!  We are on their on a weekly basis - it's just a great experience all the way around.

We would highly recommend making the change!

Even now that we are set up, the attention to service is fantastic and I wouldn't want to change my 401k provider for this reason! We run contributions bi-weekly and it has been a seamless integration into our overall process.
