Normal shared hosting is fine, but their cloud hosting prices are just too high for a starter, and there is no plan for starters. Also, their prices change when you renew the hosting. Support takes a long time to deliver a solution. Overall, HostGator is a good choice for web hosting, but I wouldn't recommend it for the best performance. **What do you dislike about HostGator?** Their server performance is really poor on GTMetrix with TTFB over 9 seconds. This is surprising, given their overall rating on the site. Considering shared hosting, I've seen worse. They had a great intro price for a three year contract. We ran a few low level traffic sites on this server and never had any issues with downage. **What do you dislike about HostGator?** They are owned by the same company who owns Bluehost who has had more issues over the years. They always offer a low intro pricepoint and then the price jumps considerably after renewal. **What problems is HostGator solving and how is that benefiting you?** We wanted to host websites ourselves in stead of through a middleman. It has saved us a lot of money but takes more time to set up initially and check for health and updates. ### 36. I use it as a hosting for testing and secondary websites, but for an important website, I would not use HostGator. **What problems is HostGator solving and how is that benefiting you?** Conduct tests and use it as a staging environment. It hurts especially when you are in a situation where everything is at stake. This should be taken care of professionally and as early as possible. **What problems is HostGator solving and how is that benefiting you?** I was so worried as to how would I transfer my data from my previously hosted domain.
