Top Rated Homestead Websites Alternatives
The ability and flexibility to pick a design template based on the industry and customize it to suit my business needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Homestead is supposed to work as both an online and offline website builder but you can’t actually do anything unless you’re connected to the internet, which cancels out any advantages to this two-tiered approach. Also, homestead’s web-based tool, Site Builder Light, only provides a fraction of the tool’s functionality. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It was easy to set up. And I did have a nice website for several years, though the annual price increases eventually mdaeit a poor value. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Thinking of retiring, I tried to cancel the automatic renewal of my website subscription last year. Homestead was largely unresponsive. They claimed they sent an email reminder, which I never got. I tried to ask if they could at least prorate, keeping the site for six months at a reduced rate. NO RESPONSE. Just silence. So I kept the site another year--although the price had increased > $30 and I no longer felt it was worth the cost. In 2024, I made REPEATED efforts to contact the company to stop the autorenewal in advance. Doing so online was not intuitive, and once I managed to do it, I initially received NO confirmation that it was done, so I also tried to do it via phone (with customer service people difficult to understand) and online chat. Eventually something worked. HOWEVER, Homestead immediately took down my website on Oct. 24 or 25. The contract was set to renew Nov. 8. I explicitly stated in all my communications that I wanted the site to remain active through the end of the contract on Nov. 8—just do not renew the contract after the current one runs out. I called customer service and eventually got a rep (with an accent, who spent more time telling me she would me than actually helping me). She indicated that the website was back up, but Homestead may go ahead and bill me automatically; I would have to call again and cancel again Nov. 8, In other words, they could not leave the site up through Nov. 8 without also billing me for another year, creating a need for me to dispute the charge on my credit card. This is not exactly what happened. Instead, the site did NOT come back up, and I received an email confirming it was cancelled. At least they have not billed me again, but essentially, they took the site down more thantwo weeks before my subscription was set to expire. If you’re thinking about signing up with Homestead , be prepared for significant annual rate hikes, unresponsive customer service, and a frustrating cancellation experience. P.S. They have also made it difficult and tedious to try to submit a review--too many required steps. The process appears to be be designed to discourage reviewing their services. The best thing about homestead is the simplicity. It's drag and drop and the builder is very similar to Wix, but it's pared down in a way that makes it very beginner friendly. How it looks in the builder is how it will look in real life! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It's simple on purpose, but obviously having less customization is not always ideal. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Before I purchased premium services, I had no major problems with Homestead. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I spent a lot of money for Homestead to design my website. After this, it crashed every time I made edits. The tech support was abysmal. I had to transfer my website off of Homestead and pay for another web designer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Easy to use. Now offer a simple website builder. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Cost. The price increases once/twice a year, but no known improvement for older accounts. Also, for photos outside the blog, there is no direct link capability. I cannot find an image by entering what should be the image url, which means using the alt text is even more important because adding a description in the url serves no purpose once uploaded. The templates are easy to understand and fill in. The visual quality of the templates is extremely good! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Unfortunately, there is not a free pricing plan. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

How easy homestead website is to use and navigate, the cost is very reasonable, and the dashboard is clear and concise. the how to get started and help tabs make it easy to figure out what the user is trying to accomplish, all of the different color themes to pick from make it very fun to design Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
you know I haven't really found anything so far, if I didn't have prior knowledge of a computer then it could possibly be I bit tricky to figure out but with the up loads of graphics design elemints of the page and over all usage of it I truly cant complain Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What I loved most about Homestead was the ease of use for building a website for my father's church when he first became a priest for that diocese. The church had absolutely no marketing and I was able to easily use Homestead to build a business website for the church with multiple pages. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The only thing I disliked about Homestead was that I wished I had more choices for templates and backgrounds and such. It worked for the most part but there were some times when I had trouble connecting to the servers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Homestead was very simple to use, and a great start if you have absolutely no html experience, but I would question whether the finished result is really what you want your potential customers to see. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The end results are very "out of the box" and you really have to dig deep into the settings to get to the customization you really need in order to stand out. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I really like the pre-built website features that allow me to customize so many aspects of the website along with access to stock images that are exceptionally professional. The ability to access marketing tools also puts homestead above and beyond the rest. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
A small issue that I've encountered using Homestead is that there is limited bandwidth which slows things down a bit. Additionally I haven't felt that there is enough storage. The starter pack also does not come with a domain. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Simple for non-website builders to get a simple website up. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Account management: severing your relationship with the company was much more difficult than it should have been. They continued to bill us long after we tried closing our account. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
