**What do you like best about Heimdal?**

I really appreciate Heimdal's ease of deployment, the integrated pane of glass for managing everything, and the fairly responsive support team. The platform consistently adds features that are genuinely useful for our needs, especially as we have a mixed estate of Windows, Macs, and Linux. The long-term investment has paid dividends, and I value the ongoing improvements, particularly the commitment to cross-platform feature parity and compliance reporting.

**What do you dislike about Heimdal?**

The main drawback for us has been the lack of feature parity across Windows, Mac, and Linux—especially application control for Mac OS, which is currently missing but is on the roadmap. Pulling relevant stats for board packs can be a bit intense, requiring some digging, but dashboard customization is coming soon. These are all being addressed, so my concerns are more about timing than any fundamental issues.

As you said, app control for MacOS is on the roadmap and we're constantly working to bring in line other missing capabilities too. 

Also, we'll soon reveal the Heimdal 5.4.0 Release Candidate Dashboard which will bring a strong set of practical improvements across the platform:

•	Stronger compliance settings for session locking and automated log retrieval.
•	Direct inbox deletion actions for Microsoft 365 Email Security.

**What do you like best about Heimdal?**

I really appreciate Heimdal's fast and responsive support team, which is much quicker than most other vendors I've dealt with. The privilege elevation feature is a standout, making me feel much safer about admin access risks. Third-party patching is another big plus, and the pricing for these features is fair compared to competitors.

**What do you dislike about Heimdal?**

The main drawback is the lack of high-level, easy-to-use reporting. It's difficult to quickly get clear dashboards or summaries to show progress, patching rates, or server reboots, which makes it hard to demonstrate value in board meetings. Because of this, I had to bring in another tool just for vulnerability scanning and reporting, which I'd rather not do.

**What problems is Heimdal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have one platform for patching (Windows and Third party), remote desktop support and privileged access management \ evalation, instead of having multiple systems from multiple suppliers.

**What do you like best about Heimdal?**

I like that Heimdal integrates the most commonly used apps, which helps organizations stay secure. The dashboard is easy to learn and understand, and support is always available when needed. The program performs its main function of isolating bad emails and links 100% of the time. We chose Heimdal over other products because it provides both email and endpoint security in one bundle. The pricing is very attractive because of the bundle, and I only have to deal with one vendor when issues arise.

**What do you dislike about Heimdal?**

Nothing at the moment. As an organization, we’ve used most of its features, and we’re happy with it overall.

**What problems is Heimdal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a healthcare center, we receive a lot of phishing and ransomware-targeted emails. Heimdal isolates these emails and either deletes them or, if the content is questionable, quarantines them. The AI portion of the program also helps identify threats in advance and updates accordingly.

**What do you like best about Heimdal?**

I really like how easy Heimdal is to use and navigate. The layout is straightforward, and having so many tools included in a single platform is probably the biggest advantage for me. Automatic software updates, unattended remote support, and even OS updates are handled well. It makes managing our large estate much easier and more efficient.

**What do you dislike about Heimdal?**

One downside is that it's difficult to update applications that don't add an entry to the Windows App List, like some portable apps. 
For example, the application NASM doesn't add a registry entry during installation, so Heimdal can't detect it. 
It would be great if there was more support for these kinds of portable applications, or custom detection methods.

**What problems is Heimdal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Patching of devices and cyber-essentials compliance - Heimdal covers this perfectly and is zero-touch for the most part.
Unattended remote support - this works very well in Heimdal and does not require any additional installation.

**What do you like best about Heimdal?**

I really like how lightweight Heimdal is on the client side—it has minimal impact on device performance but still gives us all the functionality we need from an IT management perspective. The automated patching, especially for Windows zero-days and third party apps, has been a real game changer. I appreciate that once it's set up, it just works in the background and lets us focus on other priorities. The reporting and visibility into vulnerabilities, plus the ability to scale with more modules, is also a big plus.

**What do you dislike about Heimdal?**

The setup process was a bit complicated, and navigating some areas of the platform can be unintuitive at first. It took me a while to get familiar with where everything is and how to make certain changes. Once you get used to it, it's fine, but the initial learning curve could definitely be improved to make it more user-friendly.

**What problems is Heimdal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Heimdal helps us manage the threat landscape in real time. We can rely on Heimdal to bring machines into line with our policies and security baselines as soon as they become available. As a result, we stay compliant, and our security team spends very little effort on user-driven remediation.

UI / UX
The interface is clean and generally easy to navigate. While most core features are accessible, some advanced options (like role management and account settings) could be more intuitive and consistently visible across user roles.

Heimdal integrates well with standard security workflows. However, deeper integrations and clearer documentation around role-based access and feature availability would further improve usability.

I really like the ease of the dashboard for querying update status and compliance, as well as Heimdal's ability to manage patching for devices over the internet—not just those on the corporate network. The API access and ability to pull detailed build numbers for compliance reporting have been invaluable for our scripts and automation.

**What do you dislike about Heimdal?**

I dislike the misleading information shown on the endpoint, specifically the 'up to date' tick that appears even when a device has only been on for a short time. This causes confusion among users and makes it harder to ensure genuine compliance, as they often believe updates are complete when they're not.

**What do you like best about Heimdal?**

The automation is the best aspect for me—Heimdal takes care of updates for third-party applications and device drivers without manual intervention. It has revealed applications installed that I wasn't even aware of, and has significantly reduced our threat score. The USB device control was a key reason for choosing Heimdal, and having the ability to push out updates and driver updates is a real bonus.

**What do you dislike about Heimdal?**

If I’m being really picky, although the initial support response is quick and helpful, I feel the troubleshooting could be more thorough. For instance, when we’ve had remote control issues, the support team sometimes closes tickets too quickly or assumes the problem is on our side, instead of proactively investigating by pulling logs or clearly suggesting next steps. A bit more in-depth support would make the overall experience even better.

The word "Automation" comes up a lot in this review because it’s the key to helping a small I.T. team keep 8,000 devices updated and reduce the associated tasks we would normally have to handle.

The support is amazing—very quick to respond to questions and to get issues resolved. The team is also incredibly knowledgeable, which makes the whole experience even better.

**What do you dislike about Heimdal?**

I see Heimdal primarily as a security product, and it performs well in that role. Its RMM offering is improving, but there’s still a sizable gap between Heimdal and, for example, Ninja, which is fine given where Heimdal is positioned. That said, better integrations with more mature RMM platforms would be much appreciated.

**What problems is Heimdal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The single pane of glass has been the biggest benefit for us. Having one dashboard to use for all security-related work reduces the time it takes us to act on tickets and address security issues.

I really appreciate the ease of use and the broad scope of applications Heimdal provides. The patch management has been a huge help, and the 24/7 SOC team has given me peace of mind, allowing me to sleep at night knowing our systems are monitored. The unified dashboard makes managing everything much easier, especially since I'm the only tech for our schools.

**What do you dislike about Heimdal?**

Honestly, it's hard to think of a downside. If I had to pick something, it's that it's not free, but given the value, I can’t complain much. Overall, no major problems.

I really like the front-end experience, particularly the dashboard home page. It provides clear visibility of third‑party patch management and update status, with intuitive click‑through navigation. The information is presented clearly on the landing page, making it easy to understand current status at a glance and enabling straightforward, effective monitoring.

**What do you dislike about Heimdal?**

It can get a bit complicated when trying to look at the scheduling on the dates, especially when trying to schedule it around other schedules like Microsoft Patch Tuesdays. Lining up the weeks and making sure patch deployment fits our testing and deployment process is not as intuitive as I'd like.

I really like Heimdal's third party patch management—it's definitely the best part for me. It handles patch management exactly as we need, reliably updating third party apps and automating what used to be a headache.

The only thing I dislike is that the menus could be a bit more user friendly. Sometimes when I know I need to look for something, I don't always know exactly where to find it, which can slow me down a bit.

I find the support very good and quick! The dashboard is easy to use and adding new customers is straightforward.

Having to sign in a lot this needs looking into and I have raised it. Im only a small company and it’s a bit annoying.

**What problems is Heimdal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Patch management and security are much easier having previously been a Syncro customer. It’s cheaper for me as well and now I’m no longer using ESET so everthing is in one place.

**What do you like best about Heimdal?**

I like that Heimdal® 'does what it says on the box,' which means it reliably provides the security solutions we expect. I also appreciate that their technicians are available 24x7 for support or help and they really know what they are talking about.

**What do you dislike about Heimdal?**

I struggle navigating around their admin portal as it is complex and can be illogical in its navigation. Deciding whether to go to Account settings/config or Endpoint settings is a problem; we often end up trying both to find the options we need. It's almost impossible to find the 'installer download' and 'activation key'; putting them in the 'guide' is not logical. And why do you need to log in to get the installer download? It should be available on a public page. Forcing a login makes it hard to direct clients to an installer, so we've made it available via our website support pages. Also, as far as I know, there are no links or admin connections between Heimdal and the RMM Management system Ninja RMM. It would be useful if there was a connection.

Heimdal® protects us from malware, virus attacks, DNS interceptions, and encryption hijacks.

I really like their very quick and efficient response to my support ticket, and they have a decent price.

It is providing DNS security which make a safer environment. The patch management tool is updating third party programs but it could use more integraitons with more third party programs so it can update more programs.

I really appreciate Heimdal® for its patch management ease, which makes my job simpler. I'm also able to ensure all devices are free of typical vulnerabilities. Plus, the initial setup was very easy, which was a relief.

I find DarkGuard DNS sometimes stalls and is unreliable at times.

**What do you like best about Heimdal?**

It just works. 

We use Patch Management, E-mail Security and Remote Desktop modules from the Heimdal portfolio.  All these products run through a single agent and consistently perform well. We push Microsoft patches every month to clients and servers without issue (and more reliably than something like WSUS) , Remote Desktop is simple to use as an admin, just right-click the agent search for the user you want to connect to and go, and E-mail Security Spam filtering catches the majority of the bad things. 

Heimdal also creates a decent asset register for each device you install the agent on.

Support is also responsive and helpful, normally coming back with an answer in only 30 minutes!

**What do you dislike about Heimdal?**

First time setup can be a little challenging. Patch management group policies took a little bit of getting used to the way Heimdal uses its terminology but once you crack it, it just ticks along.

Spam filtering could be a little more flexible, the previous product we used was able to manage allow/deny lists per user. Heimdal takes a more global approach so you tend to be allowing an email for the entire domain.

A little more control of client machines would be helpful. Some alternative products allow you to force a reboot for instance.

Use support and sales to help with setup. They're Great!

Managing patches during Covid proved challenging. Heimdal gave us a centralised cloud platform to see, report and push both 3rd party and Windows patches to our end clients. Our patching consistency and cadence has improved significantly since using Heimdal to manage. 

Switched on the recently released Remote Desktop module so we can easily connect to end-user devices. We had been managing via Teams but the Remote Desktop module is far more flexible.

**What do you like best about Heimdal?**

The Heimdal platform contains many different component. We are only subscribed to the two that currently fit our business needs: Patch & Asset Management, and Remote Desktop. The former is a superb tool for automated patching of operating systems and 3rd party software, plus contains a tool to deploy custom scripts and applications - very versitile. The Remote Desktop solution works well, with the added plus of straightforward setup; as our end user devices already had the Heimdal agent installed it was straightforward to push the new tool to devices. 

Finally, and most importantly, the support team are exceptional. There have been a few queries from ourselves, and each one was met with professionalism wiith a concerted effort to find a resolution. The work completed by the support team in some cases exceeded expectations, with complete scripted solutions designed and implemented to improve our IT estate.

**What do you dislike about Heimdal?**

Our initial setup & deployment was discovered not to utilise best practise after over one year of being customers. This caused some issues in terms of upgrading the agents installed on our devices, and while the support team were once again fantastic in getting the issue resolved, the inital communication regarding deployment could be improved.

As part of our Cyber Security Essentials accreditation we required a solution to conform with operating system and 3rd party software patching within a 14-day window of release (for critical updates). This is a near-impossible task to complete manually by a small IT team. The Heimdal platform solved that issue.

The nice thing about Heimdal is the fact that it enables auto updating of some very basic and favorite apps. This is a really nice feature as a lot of users often fail to update the software that this updates. The interface is clean, and easy to use as well.

Overall, there is not a lot that I dislike. There appears to be a few bugs in the fact that it will not remember you ran a scan. The software fixes itself upon reboot, but for the end user, it seems like you are "unprotected" when you just completed a scan.

Heimdal security is being used as a secondary antivirus solution on top of Windows Defender. it has managed to keep the systems free of virus and malware. Overall, it has been successful.

I like that many application is bundled in one application, making it easy to administrate and very effective. Effective means saving time and money.

Policy setup could be better. Make a baseline policy and create different policies only based on changes compared to the baseline policy. If we want to make a basic change, we have to modify all policies and not just the baseline.

We are getting a good antivirus, Ransomware protection, and updated most of our small utilities (not having to create packets manually). Darklayer is protecting users when they browse.

Heimdal is light weight. Very little impact on system resources. The other thing though is it's "quiet" ... it works in the background helping to sheild from threats without interfering with your work with dialog boxes. The other things that's particularly nice is that it keeps other applications up to date with the latest patches and builds, thus removing what otherwise could be entry points for system exploits.

**What do you dislike about Heimdal?**

Frankly, not much. I do wish the software had a built in update button but other than that, the updates are OK to install manually and their primarly interface updates I believe anyway since their system is constantly being updated throughout the day if I'm not mistaken.

**Recommendations to others considering Heimdal:**

I would recommend considering it as an additional layer of security. Their support is top notch!

**What problems is Heimdal solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I think for me the primary benefit has been peace of mind. Let's face it, in today's threat landscape, it's vital to have a multi layered defence against threats - especially against zero day threats. Heimdal provides that additional layer. It's caught and blocked things that I didn't even realize would've been a problem (such as legitimate websites that may have been hijacked, or injected with malware code in their ads).

We have used Heimdal security for many years now. We have tried most of their offerings. Now we use patch management of 3-party applications and email protection and Network threat prevention. The products are great and simple to use. Especially the 3-party application patch management has saved us hours of work.

The portal can be a bit messy to look at, and it has changed a couple of times over the years. The report on ROI does not make sense. Difficult to estimate the cost of traffic blocked.

The easy setup of a patch. That I do not have to have my own server environment that has to be maintained. That I do not have to create patches for the most commonly used programs.

That users cannot repair and uninstall from the client. That you cannot easily create uninstall packages for your patches/software. That you cannot automatically uninstall a patch if the computer/user falls out of scope.

We had one issue with a 3rd party software that kept failing during update. But customer support was able to quickly respond to the issue and help troubleshoot the problem.

That we save a lot of time maintaining our 3rd party software products. We also reduce our risk by allowing Heimdal Patch & Asset management keep our endpoints up to date with the recent security updates.

dislike is a strong word, could be a better filter in infinity management, but we are still satisfied.

securing our endpoints , servers and email traffic. Distribution of software to endpoints.  Both financial and efficiency benefits to have only one system for all these functions.
