  ### 6. Domino The way to Go

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Johann S. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 25, 2022

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

We have been using Domino since the very beginning and have stayed with them since the early days of Lotus Domino. We love the integration of email, Sametime and application in one client.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

For a short time, Domino was on hold and further development of the software was frozen. After IBM sold the product to HCL, the decision was made to start further improvement and development of the product.

**Recommendations to others considering HCL Domino:**

Domino is an all-in-one product which is a good fit for clients who do not like Office 365 or G-suite. It will take some time to get adjusted to but it a very solid product.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using Domino for some of our clients who have been using Domino for a long time. They really appreciate the client and also the options to develop application within the software to help their organizations.

  ### 7. Its very useful corporate email solution

  ### 8. HCL re-energizes Domino

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kris D. | Managing Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 24, 2022

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

What I like the most is that Domino is a stable, secure platform that proved its robustness already for more than 30 years. The fact that customers are re-evaluating their Domino infra since they know that HCL took it in hands and is investing a lot to put new features, proves again its robustness.
There is no other platform that allows an upgrade or migration as easy as you can do this with Domino. If you need a server that can serve all internet protocols, then you need to consider to use Domino. And did you know already that you can integrate it with whatever technology ?

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

It is very difficult to find a topic around Domino that I dislike, especially now that HCL invested a lot in making sure that this technology is future proof.
The only thing I dislike about Domino is that marketing awareness is not as good as it should be for the moment. Hopefully this will change soon.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Besides using Domino as your mail server, you can also use it as an application development platform. There is still a myth flowing around that customer development is a large investment, reconsider using Domino for your custom development and you will see that costs will decrease dramatically.

  ### 9. HCL Domino

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Muhammad Naeem I. | Section Manager - Business Applications, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 06, 2022

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

Stability and fast restoration with other collaborative features

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

Domino Logging features must be improved

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Corporate mailing & collaboration suite for all type of businesses

  ### 10. Even after 32 years there is still no product within the marketplace to rival Notes/Domino

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ian s. | Infrastructure Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 06, 2022

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

Encryption, management, storage and replication of unstructured data, sat behind a cross platform workflow engine, enabled by an industrial strength email platform

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

Slicker Document Editing and Saving integration, where a database could be seen as a folder.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I manage my entire business using Domino. I can share data with ease and work productively off-line.

  ### 11. Domino - Still one of the best rapid development platforms around.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gavin B. | IT Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 17, 2022

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

Code written on Domino still runs decades later. Domino supports modern web application frameworks, like bootstrap. The security features in Domino are second-to-none and include not only database access controls but also record and even field access controls. The TCO of Domino is far lower than most of the cloud systems. Domino is very robust and can be relied upon to keep running. With good configuration, Domino has excellent defenses against external attacks. HCL are now keeping domino up to date and modern.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

The Notes Client suffers from cosmetic issues (it's ugly). The mail is good but since users prefer outlook, it's best not to use it unless you need to. There's a bit of bias against domino from people who experienced IBM's lack of interest in the product. Thankfully that's changed since HCL took over.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main issue we have is internal business resistance to Domino. In terms of benefits, we've found that it outperforms our other options, particularly Azure in terms of compatibility, ease of framework updates, general upgrade ease, stability, baked in security and total cost of ownership.

  ### 12. Close to perfect as you can get for an all-in-one solution!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 17, 2022

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

Having nearly everything you need already available in the design interface simplified design compared to other platforms where you have to know what libraries you might need then have to go find them. So often, what we need is already in Domino and just works. By the same token, if you need features that are not out of the box, the integration has improved such that you can bolt on whatever you need. In addition, HCL has been a marvel at consistently delivering fresh new value with a timely release schedule.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

The only disappointment is that more companies are not deploying this platform due to perceptions formed years ago. The HCL story is exciting, emerging, and one worth being part of.

**Recommendations to others considering HCL Domino:**

Engage in the user community in person and online. If there is a feature you want, contact HCL and submit the idea for consideration as they are very responsive.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We run business-critical applications as well as maintaining a larger user base. The continuous improvements to the Domino Admin client capability has really allowed us to carry on without a server admin on staff.

  ### 13. Easy to understand Application development, Hosting Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Import and Export | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 08, 2020

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

Easy to understand, Stable, Single platform for hosting (www), Email (smtp) application development for workflow, office communication and collaboration. For a long time world best enterprise groupware application system.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

You have to stick to the rules. Domino Server rules can be Inflexible sometimes. You need to fully understand how it works, the absence of which you are guaranteed chaos. My best example is removing users and the effects of Adminp. If for example there is a problem with a user and you try to solve the problem by deleting the user and recreating the user, in the first few hours everything will look okay. When Adminp kicks in to rerun the delete for the user, that user is deleted. you can imagine the displeasure mixed with confusion this can cause if the rule is not clear.

**Recommendations to others considering HCL Domino:**

Get Training, Get full understanding. This is such a good application when you know the rules and you keep to the rules

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We hosting Emails on domino, We are hosting applications ( internal Application ) on domino. We are also hosting several websites on domino. all these in a highly available manner using inbuilt replication capability of the Domino server.

  ### 14. Drag and Drop Programming

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bradley T. | Pre-Sales Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 14, 2022

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

I thought that drag and drop was going to stay in the web development sector. I'm glad they have brought this over to application development. This opens so many doors for smaller businesses.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

Simple approach. If you need more advanced functionality then you are going to be limited. Some need the more complicated features and ability to program and some just don't.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simple, entry level, programming development. We have been able to do what we need with less time and experience as needed for a full stack developer. This has been awesome!

  ### 20. Progress by LEAPS and BOUNDS!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mike B. | Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2021

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

Our company offers Domino/Notes-based software applications for public safety agencies. We have been using Domino/Notes since our applications were first created over 20 years ago. When IBM still owned Domino/Notes, forward movement, meaningful enhancements, and overall progress had all but halted. Since HCL purchased Domino/Notes, the rate and quantity of significant improvements and enhancements to Domino/Notes has been nothing short of miraculous! HCL is well on its way to re-establishing Domino/Notes as one of the premier platforms not only in the private business space but government space as well.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

The only issue that we've experienced was for a period of time after HCL acquired Domino/Notes, accessing and navigating their many different websites for support, downloads, KB articles, etc. was a bit disjointed with separate log-ins for each site. This has greatly improved as time has passed, and considering IBM dropped all things Domino/Notes like a hot potato before the ink was even dry on the sale contract, HCL still did a pretty good job!

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our company provides mission-critical software solutions to public safety agencies. HCL's support has been effective, responsive and much improved over the support we were receiving from IBM. The capabilities of Domino/Notes has increased tremendously and HCL is making great strides towards modernizing Domino/Notes.

  ### 21. Excellent and secure product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Oscar L. | CIO, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2022

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

One of the best things is easy to use, the final users love it, they came from different platform at the end love domino, they love the apps developed in domino and the workflows integrated in the same platform.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

As a IT, we need more training courses and security services to help us to improve the platform.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Since many years ago, BioPappel has used Domino in internal applications and workflows; it allows us to reduce the paperwork, to track authorizations and documents, reducing the time used on this and keeping the information in just one place for everyone.

  ### 22. Mailing, create and host mobile and web applications easily

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Róbert T. | Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 17, 2022

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

Very easy to create a web and mobile application. Easy to manage and very stable solution for both sme and ww corporates as well. Highly secured. And valuable price.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

The Notes client is still looking old. To create complex workflows we still need professionals.

**Recommendations to others considering HCL Domino:**

Very easy solution and great price.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Many helpful databases: todos, know how, faq, mailing databases, website

  ### 23. Using a 30-yo product has pros and cons. Mostly pros.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 10, 2021

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

The Domino server has been around a long time - more than 30 years. It may not be fashionable, but the server is solid. I'm guessing most of the code paths in the product have been run through many times and bugs shaken out. The security model is super-sophisticated - you can do pretty much anything you can imagine in terms of security settings. Notes/Domino implemented a "No-SQL" database model before No-SQL was cool. Also, it provides everything in a single package. That makes it super easy to implement.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

The underlying architecture of the product is based on a client-server model, as befits the, ahem, "maturity" of Domino. The Notes client was great back in the mid-90s when you needed to hook your laptop up to a modem, plug into a phone line, and replicate data back and forth across a shaky V.32 connection. These days it's largely irrelevant, which means your choices are either to run apps hosted on the HTML server that's been added on to Domino or to use Nomad Web, which implements the client bit of the setup in a browser. Either way, there's a slightly unnatural feel to the architecture of running Domino apps in the 21st century that has caused some customers, perhaps unwisely, to abandon the platform. In our experience, however, the grass is rarely greener on the other side of that particular fence.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are an HCL business partner and support thousands of clients in more than 60 countries worldwide. Those clients have used Domino to create applications that, in many cases, run their entire business. Anything from simple threaded discussion databases to full-blown CRM systems.

  ### 24. Huge fan of Domino & Notes

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 07, 2022

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

Stability of environment and the former ease of development

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

One of the recent changes in V 11 has resulted in a mish mash in the development environment

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a 20 + year developer of solutions in Domino / Notes for many different organisations, the replication facility, flexibility and remote support Domino provides are invaluable.

  ### 25. HCL DOMINO or LOTUS NOTES

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Plavita D. | System Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2022

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

The good part of the application is the database connections. How they are integrated with your email client. It does the common part of a email client which is good. Also i like the offline feature of the email.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

I have used the tool when it was still called LOTUS NOTES. Back then the tool was slow, had a lot of issues like problems in launching. And connectivity was a major concern.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used it as a email client. Connwcting to variois databases which made us help gather and access the data quickly. The vast range of connectivity provided was admirable.

  ### 26. HCL Domino Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carla S. | Client Relations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 06, 2022

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

We used HCL Domino specifically to secure our emails. I worked at a financial firm, and we needed something that would 100% guarantee that our emails to our clients were secured.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

There is so much more to HCL Domino than what we used it for. I think my company could have used it better!

**Recommendations to others considering HCL Domino:**

Yes! Again, I think there is so much more use to HCL Domino than what we used it for, but if you need to secure your emails, this is great option for your company!

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping secure our client emails. Making sure their information was private.

  ### 27. Performance, Security, and Time-Tested

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael W. | CTO, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2021

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

So much to like, but I tend to focus on reliability, security, performance, and scalability. Domino embodies these four qualities and never fails to deliver day in and day out.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

I sometimes wish for more native connectivity with other industry-standard products like MS Word and MS Excel for reporting and output. Reporting has always been a deficiency in Notes/Domino environments.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Domino checks all my boxes every day. Low cost to own and administer, true rapid development, a container for unstructured data sets, and a secure presence on the Internet.

  ### 28. Domino lives... for now

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Facilities Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 18, 2022

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

We've upgraded from R6 to R11 and the applications have run without any issue.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

Domino mail - really? I don't know anyone who has used this in a good 10 years.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solutions and workflows are great and easy in Domino.

  ### 29. Innovative and user-friendly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2021

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

HCL Domino is one of the best products that I have used in terms of workflow applications. Innovative and user-friendly, I find that HCL Domino is able to make the flow of tasks easier to manage, streamlining communications.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

There are frequent updates to HCL Domino, which can cause some interference in your workday, assuming you download and operate all the recommended updates.

**Recommendations to others considering HCL Domino:**

I highly recommend keeping in mind that HCL Domino does require frequent updates. Additionally, although productivity has generally increased, you may find that users have questions about general usability of the product.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Workflow operations have become much easier to manage, with coding that is easy for almost anyone to use. Productivity has increased and I find daily output to be improved.

  ### 30. Domino moving in the right direction

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bobby W. | Centralized Application Support Supervisor, Insurance, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 19, 2021

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

I do like how, since HCL has acquired Domino, that you can see the progress that they have put into making this product a leader again in the collaboration arena.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

The installation of the Domino server does seem a little clunky at first, but there are some excellent Tech Documents online that will walk you through setting up your first HCL Domino server fast and efficiently.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problem that we are solving is that we are taking a non-supported IBM branded release of Domino and migrating it to a new version of the Windows Server OS and the latest release of HCL Domino. This will allow us to bring some applications that have long been neglected back to life and back to production.

  ### 31. Domino is great

no problems migrating the server-hardware, ease of administration, security

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

secure mailing, archiving

  ### 32. Great RAD platform with excellent email security

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Machinery | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Airlines/Aviation | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2021

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

Security is good,
Domino refuses to die, but no new job creation in the job market for the last 4-5 years.
When we talk to general notes users, who use mailing and notes apps, they say installation is tricky.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

The development speed of development needs to improve. UI needs to improve. Web conversion should be a bit easy; conversion to Xpages is building app from scratch; the business will do in another tech only if they do not absolutely love notes.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Doing changes in applications, supporting existing ones

  ### 35. Good experience with using forms for partnerships

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

The robustness of IBM Notes ( Lotus Notes + Domino Server ) . We had used this exclusively for the IBM Notes / Email application along with the basic Apps and workflows designed within Lotus Notes.

It was easy to design, basic and quick. No frills and thrills in this one

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

This feels old now. With the latest front end technologies etc, and the power of Java, the new apps look and feel rich along with providing the user a much better experience. the Dev time is still the same but with much better outcomes.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use them for some of the Legacy applications and forms

  ### 43. modern enhancements to a classic

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 25, 2021

**What do you like best about HCL Domino?**

Lots of the world still runs on the notes ecosystem. I've used it in a half dozen different government departments, parliaments, etc. HCL Domino is a way to bring modern security controls and software development practices into the platform. I've seen it work as a tactical solution to some really tricky problems relating to regulatory oversight, audit and cybersecurity risk.

**What do you dislike about HCL Domino?**

Resourcing this is tricky. We normally have to fly in experts from abroad. Of course these days that's easier with remote work in this pandemic era. It is quite difficult even so to find and retain competent individuals who can operate the notes / HCL domino world. Legacy implementations and lots of technical debt are quite common in different client sites. It is what it is!

**Recommendations to others considering HCL Domino:**

If you're locked into the notes world forever, this is a no brainer for larger orgs.

**What problems is HCL Domino solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it a lot for documenting regulatory risk, helping out with audit requirements, and as an infosec control. Benefitted with more streamlined processes, and bringing the notes stack up to date with current infosec needs. Different people get different things out of HCL domino.
