Handshake allows me to create scheduling blocks for students to make appointments and automatically get on my calendar. The data resources and analytics are extremely helpful, and I can include surveys and instructions for students to see when they have an appointment. The most difficult thing is that it is not set up intuitively for students to use. They frequently email or call stating they have trouble making an appointment or uploading documents for review. My favorite part of the website is the ease of the different categories and filters that can be used to fine tune the exact career(s) that you are interested in as well as the broadness of the options that can possibly also be satisfied but may not be thought of as a cross-over topic! It also helps to expand beyond what you are just interested in to see what other opportunities are available to receive experience even if thought of as non-valuable! The thing that I dislike most about the website is the fact that it takes a learning curve and is not the most user friendly right off the bat. It took me a few attempts to get the exact filtering that I desired as well as there being many options that were classified incorrectly and did not actually fit by request. Recommendations to others considering Handshake for Education Partners: As a job seeker, I would highly recommend this product as it lays out a massive list of various positions with multiple categories and filtering options that are very helpful. Being an alumnus of a university that previously had its own career-centric website, I have found Handshake to be much more informative and easier to use. It is a website and company that are leading the curve and helping many people search for and find jobs and employees, as I have heard from recruiters who use it as well. I don't love the employer and job approval processes. I feel that they could be streamlined as far as verifying whether or not an employer is fraudulent. I love Handshake's job board and sorting filters. It makes it super easy for students like myself to find jobs and internships matching our relevant experience, school year, and skills. I also love how Handshake is integrated with my school's career development office, allowing me to schedule career counseling appointments, have my resume and cover letters reviewed, and get answers to my questions. I like how handshake shows all the upcoming career fares, events, and mock interviews and sends reminders as well. We can sign up for mock interviews on our own which saves time and effort. Once I uploaded my resume it let me apply for multiple jobs at once. I was able to apply for 100-150 jobs in 1 day. Which really increased my chances of landing an interview. I used hand shake to search for carrer fares that were happening in my university and nearby campuses as well. I was able to sign up for limited seat conferences for career building. The only bad experience I have had with Handshake has been when I was recommended an MLM company.
