Vertex AI brings all of Google's AI capabilities in one place. And it received a significant boost ever since Gemini was integrated. You can easily startoff with all available tools right away without having to start a project and enabling the API.

The model garden is vast and even offers models out of Google's ecosystem, like LLama 2. These models can be retrained either using code or the inbuilt AutoML features.

The ML pipelines offer a great variety, from basic retraining to just tuning the hyperparameters and SAS jobs etc.

The speech models were the best I've ever come across. Outstanding accuracy and blisteringly fast. The generated voice was crystal clear and with a tone matching the context. Of course, this doesn't come as a surprise as Google always excelled at it.

The multimodal prompts is a new feature since Gemini and it's excellent. It can identify minute details in an image without missing a lot.

Vertex AI has been useful for us, and the learning curve wasn't too steep. They are adding more and more features so I'm really excited to see what it will be capable of in the future! As usual with machine learning, the time spent on cleaning the data often overseeds the time spent on training, I would've however hoped for a bit more faster turnaround time in case there were errors in the data. For example, if a dataset would contain invalid values, it would take sometimes closer to 15 minutes for the training to notice that. It took also a moment to realize that entries with any null values would be excluded from training, so I got useless results at the beginning. In hindsight these feel pretty obvious mistakes, and the easy solutions for avoiding similar issues would be to use BigQuery instead of .csv files directly, and to do your homework (read the documentation) well before getting too excited to try things out. Lots of Useful AI Models available to train with provided by Google, like Gemini. It's integrated with Google cloud, so available pretrained AI models like Vision, Translation can also be used.
