GoAnywhere MFT Pros and Cons

GoAnywhere is an extremely versatile and multi-faceted MFT tool. I have yet to run into something that it can't do. And we've barely the scratched the surface of using it for automation & API integration. We've also been able to have it integrate with our AWS, GCP and SharePoint environments easily. I've had to engage help and support on many instances and they have always provided great assistance in a timely manner. Would recommend GoAnywhere with two thumbs up

We use it daily for 100s of a job between various environments. It was easy to transfer old jobs to it and integrate new jobs. The implementation was helped by the support team at Fortra providing expert advice.

Overall its a great & versatile tool. Bit of a learning curve (especially if you haven't done any object oriented programming before). But the biggest strength is that it integrates really well with older systems (FTP environments, on-prem servers) and also with newer cloud environments (SharePoint, AWS, GCP) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Occasionally, some of the more advanced functions within cloud environments are still being developed. So while Fortra is quick to add things in we have had some delays waiting for an exact feature or integration to be improved. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Fast efficient and mutli platform MFT solution. Combining a very good File transfer server supporting SFTP, FTPS, and HTTPS and adds a very powerful scripting engine. This means we have been able to connect the scripts to read CSV files and write data directly into databases, have also hooked GAMFT to monitor fields in Salesforce and can trigger actions if needed.

Our system is very heavily used with in excess of 4000 processes spread accross 150ish customers handleing millions of files movements every month between internal systems.

GAMFT can be hooked into many different end points to either extract information or push data to.

It does what you need it to do.

GoAnywhere is a system I "inherited" from one of my co-workers, but it is a product that I truly like, even though I did not test and select it.

I like the GUI, it is clean and organized so it is easy to find what you need. I find myself just randomly looking at features to see what else the program can do.

Besides, the basic sending and retreiving of files, I have used their "double" scheduling, customized the error logging, write custom job logs to email, use monitors, and trigger files, renamed files, used conditionals, loops, used pgp encryption and decryption, certificate based logins, read/wrote files, and a lot more that I don't recall right now.

I've had a lot of requests, some of them odd, some of them stupted be for a few days, but I was always able to figure it out. Bottom line is that GoAnywhere just works, Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Support. Getting information on how to use the product and features is difficult.At one point it looked like they had a nice support forum going, where customers could post questions and support or other customers would answer. That unfortunatley was closed and is in a read only state. There is still a lot of good information there.

In addition, working with support is a hassle. Their ticketing system is not integrated with email, so conversations you have with support personnel is not logged in the system unless you cut and paste it in there. Also it feels like anytime you ask support a question about how to use the product or how the product works, they automatically refer you to professional services for a paid engagement. They need to understand the difference between the customer asking them to write a project versus the customer asking for help to be able to write the project. GoAnywhere MFT functions as an excellent managed file transfer solution which brings substantial improvements to our data transfer operations. GoAnywhere MFT provides an intuitive interface that enables all users including non-technical staff to move through its system. Through automation we complete work tasks and eliminate human mistakes as well as minimize time consumption. The solution provides complete data protection through data encryption and access control features which ensures the security of sensitive information when transfers occur. Our team has faced minor problems during GoAnywhere MFT usage because of delays in file synchronization with big files. The software needs an improved mechanism to manage failed transfers since it currently demands user assistance to fix such issues. The simplicity of implmentation and learning the product. Creating projects and resources is semi-intuitive, as long as you have a basic understanding of workflows and sudo code. We really like the product, but support has declined over the past few years. I believe this is primarily due to the product’s growing popularity and an insufficient support team to handle all technical requests. Additionally, since we are on the IBM i system, I feel that much of the IBM i expertise has been lost over time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It is easy to use , maintain and great price. We have over 90 + transport programs. Together with our Main HCM it is a great technological arsenal when it comes to our file transfers.

While I don't have much concerns, the support team used to have Chat Option but it is no longer available. Some times it takes more time. Lately support team response is not up to the mark. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

GoAnywhere MFT provides many options to retrieve, manipulate, and process data. It's easy to use interface allows you to quickly create, test, and implement projects. If unsure how to start, several project templates exist, providing the basics needed to accomplish your task. It's proven to be an invaluable tool for our company. 1st: Can be cumbersome to use if the level of script technicalites, esp. with custom expressions, is not enough with the administrator.

2nd point: Also, not GUI (graphical user interface) enough when comes to troubleshooting during emergencys. Ask oneself, why does it need a prebuilt or take time to build a module script step before you can visualize the folder structure on the connected side, or to quickly make a simple COPY or MOVE, etc.??

3rd point: I hear at one time there was a feature where multiple tabs can hold its own unique session if user were wanting to say, open one project on one chrome tab, and another project on another chrome tab, and compare script steps or edit/modify by learning to visualize one with another. But some time back, this feature was removed, because if you try to do this, some time passes and the one of the tab will refresh to make it the same as the other, hence only 1 tab, or project is only allowed. Currently, the HELP function enables a dedicated open tab and holds that. Why can't this apply when having to visualize one project mft script versus another? Documentation is pretty good, but can be improved by expanding some pieces, especially around errors and troubleshooting, going into a little more depth around Gateway/Clustering multiple environments as well as resources like S3 resources for multiple file upload Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
