For our project, Gitter was one of the apps we were using for Instant messaging using authentication from Github. For our use case, we wanted to create multiple chat rooms and had a budget constraint from the client side. Hence, Gitter matched our business requirements in all criteria. - Not so friendly for mobile devices, as no mobile application is present (it was present before but it is now deprecated)

- Sometimes, the server has some issues and the message does not get delivered, but this is very rare.

- The feature of replying by creating a thread does not have a good UX.

I love gitter because, I don't need to install anything. Just sign in and huddle. Also it's open source so we get hell lot of perspectives and features. It also shows who has seen the message. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
