What do you like best about Geomedia?

- Intelligent inbuilt features, friendly interface, and valuable tools.

- Allows a single server to distribute significant imagery data holdings to many users.

What do you dislike about Geomedia?

- Little bit slow while loading the data for an existing map document, moreover, while pan or zooming in or out for big data.

Describe the project or task Geomedia helped with:

We developed GIS for Indian Military by importing Microstation Design files, DGN files into Geomedia.

The other GIS software like ESRI ArcGIS and MapInfo could not import the element structure so accurately as Geomedia could and another facet was the dual projection system of Indian Military Map files, the elements were projected in sheet center polyconic projection whereas the military grid used Lambert Confirmal Conic projection with two standard parallels. All GIS software automatically project all elements in the map file to one projection system whereas with Geomedia we could project the elements and grid individually into different projection system.

Thus the resulting ported data was much more accurate than any other GIS system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Geomedia?

The best thing about Geomedia is its user friendly intuitive interface. The imported layers could be easily renamed and it can be programmed to do it too. The Rolta Engineers developed a very convenient tool for importing the DGN layers and then based on element characteristics GIS layers were created like road network, canals, electric line, forest limits, POIs and other details. What do you dislike about Geomedia?

Geomedia has one major drawback and that is its inability to handle very large data sets especially when they were as individual map sheets.

In our case we wanted to handle the full Command frontage comprising of 30 to 40 numbers of 1:50k map sheet data. With each file having hundreds of different features, such data will invariably slow down the system.

I think Geomedia needs to work on the memory management for efficiently handling large number of data sets. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Geomedia solving and how is that benefiting you?

Geomedia is very good in porting data from Microstation DGN files which are CAD vector files to the database of our choice very effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
