For our lab, we receive hundreds to thousands of clinical samples every year, as we have international collaborators and are also partnered with local public health administrators In order to organize/categorize these samples and provide detailed information about them (such as concentration/type of sample/etc) we implemented genemod in our lab to allow for this. Additionally, our lab has numerous members that work on different projects, so being able to have multiple members access an account and organize their samples/boxes on how they please is very beneficial as well. ### 6. My lab has only had it for a few months, but it's made everyday functions within and throughout the lab a lot smoother. For example, we have benefitted greatly from the freezer management feature, both for plasma and blood samples and for our cells in liquid nitrogen. The interactive inventory feature is absolutely lovely, but i think it would be most beneficial to smaller labs. We have a hard time keeping up with the consumption rate of our supplies (i.e., flasks, pipette tips), so it's only helpful for getting a general feel for where things are stored in the lab, not the actual amount of a certain product that we have on hand. If you have a technician that is looking for more work, then maybe they can take the time to monitor the inventory. I do love the concept, though, so I won't put this in the critiques box. I can see how beneficial it is to a smaller lab or a larger lab with a huge team. I appreciate how intuitive the software is to use, and it was relatively easy to transfer our day-to-day functions from our older inventory platform to Genemod. For the most part, the inventory management is also very helpful and works well. **What do you dislike about Genemod?** My critiques lie entirely within the inventory management system. -- Each month, I generate a spending report for my PI. Genemod has a great feature in which you can filter requests by date (i.e, April 1 to April 30). However, when I "Export" my filtered results, it will export every single order we have ever made, meaning I need to manually scroll through a giant excel file and sort out the ones that I am looking for (e.g. the April requests). I'm not sure why Genemod allows me to filter my requests but not export the filtered requests, but please consider fixing this issue. It adds a lot of work that, in theory, I should not have to do. -- I would appreciate a field in which we can enter shortcodes associated with the requests as right now I am adding them in at the beginning of the "name" field in requests (so I can still sort purchases by shortcode). -- I also don't think that Genemod notifies people when you add comments to orders, but this would be incredibly helpful for people to locate the items I received for them (rather than them having to hunt me down across the hospital facilities). -- In addition, a very minor (but super helpful) change would be adding a "copy" shortcut next to the fields in inventory management. Currently, I have to highlight the whole text. A little "copy" button would be fantastic, but again this is very minor. **What problems is Genemod solving and how is that benefiting you?** Genemod is helping us create a centralized system for inventory, SOP/protocol storage, and freezer/liquid nitrogen "maps" for organizational purposes. ### 22. Having used the software for a little bit now, I can say that even at a fraction of the cost, Genemod handles all my OMS needs just as well as my previous solution (I do all my own procurement), and all my LIMS needs in a far more efficient manner than my previous solution. Navigating through Genemod's freezer and consumable spaces is extremely intuitive and has made it very easy to track the locations of inventory from large static items, all the way down to individual aliquots of material. I love that I am able to record the exact location of any given item all the way down to cryo-box position, as this makes it perfectly clear where everything is. I also love being able to lay out my exact consumable spaces as this creates an extremely intuitive interface for my team to navigate through when looking for items in our inventory. I have additionally had an excellent experience dealing with Jacob Lee, Genemod's CEO, throughout my early days on the platform. He is extremely attentive, and I truly feel like he cares to ensure that my experience with Genemod is positive and painless. **What do you dislike about Genemod?** I would love to see email connectivity in the future. Currently at the time of writing, I have to login to my Genemod portal to see notifications such as new order requests or low stock notifications. While this isn't a huge deal, having the option to push email notifications would be a great quality of life feature. I would also love to see a more unified approach to consuming inventory in the future, as the workflow for consuming inventory differs slightly depending on if the item in question is stored in a freezer or a consumable space in the Genemod portal. Finally, I would love to see some form of historical reference of what items have been consumed, when, and by who. In its fully developed form I envision the Genemod toolset being able to assist with everything from planning out experiments, drafting and editing protocols, locating reagents to recording and presenting data. Searching from past experiments and effectively communicating one’s science to colleagues should become easier upon beginning to use this platform. Remotely accessing one’s work should also be possible. Genemod also has a handy DNA manipulation tool which is very intuitive and user-friendly. One can toggle between two modes – editor and converter – while gathering important information about the DNA stretch of interest such as GC content, designing primers, determining Tm etc. **What do you dislike about Genemod?** As the platform tools are still being developed and improved, I would not be quick to spell out any dislikes. There are some changes that could be incorporated. Reminders for expiring reagents and media components could be useful. Also, if there can be a way to quickly barcode and read freezer and liquid nitrogen tank entries that would be useful too. **What problems is Genemod solving and how is that benefiting you?** Inventory management seems to be particularly simplified by Genemod ### 49.
