**What do you like best about FusionAuth?**

The flexibility of the offering, paired with its power, feels unmatched in the authentication industry right now. With both self-hosted and cloud-managed options—and clear migration pathways between the two—it stays extremely cost-effective for software businesses of any size. Setup is a single line for self-hosted deployments, and the UI/UX web application is incredibly easy to use for managing your instance(s).

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

The cost of the self-hosted license is a bit steep, even though it’s still very competitive. FusionAuth would benefit from lowering that barrier to entry so more customers have the chance to succeed with FusionAuth powering their authentication needs. In turn, that could help drive additional sales as those customers grow their businesses, including eventual moves like cloud migrations from self-hosted.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FusionAuth provides me with a clean, trustworthy, and efficient way to meet my authentication and authorization needs. Just as importantly, they have a team of real people—engineers, architects, and integration experts—who help ensure you get the most out of their offering. We not only addressed this need, but also discovered additional areas where FusionAuth could add value and reduce our reliance on bespoke solutions within our own offering.

**What do you like best about FusionAuth?**

Supports self-hosting. The documentation is solid for setup and for automating workflows using APIs. Support has been responsive in my experience. It also covers multiple scenarios without compromises, including multi-tenancy, user and group management, federation, and M2M tokens. Finally, the pricing model is clear and attractive.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

There’s a lack of a built-in tenant discovery flow on the login screen.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were looking for a solution to manage authentication for our SaaS application, where multiple tenants can either manage “local” users and groups or import their own users through SSO. Our application manages thousands of devices per tenant (while each tenant only has hundreds of users), so we need far more M2M tokens than user tokens, which FusionAuth handles at no additional cost. On top of that, the ability to self-host significantly reduces the compliance requirements we have to meet with our customers.

**What do you like best about FusionAuth?**

The most valuable part of the software is the shared folders themselves (that was the real game changer) - You provide the Servicedesk Team with what they need to know, the Systems Team gets all that AND more, and NO ONE is putting their login credentials into Slack or trying to keep a Google Sheet that has three people with EDIT ACCESS as a way to avoid password sharing. Credentials remain encrypted and no one will ever have to look at your password unless you want to show them.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

Autofill shows up in almost EVERY INPUT FIELD on EVERY PAGE, regardless of whether it is a password field or not. And there is NO WAY to quickly disable Autofill for a particular site without going through the Settings options. That becomes old FAST. Switching from a Personal Account to a Business Account is CLUMSY - I am unable to View both Accounts at the same time, I just bounce back and forth, which BREAKS Autofill HALF THE TIME. Petty One: Save Prompt comes up for 2-3 pages AFTER you have already DISMISSED it ONCE, one reminder is ENOUGH. Also, no SubFolder Structure, which makes Organizing a LARGE Vault much more annoying than it should be.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Prior to this, our passwords were being stored in SPREADSHEETS on SHARED DRIVES OR SENT THROUGH EMAIL/CHAT, which is a terrible situation waiting to happen. FusionAuth stores all of our passwords in an Encrypted Place WITH ACTUAL ACCESS CONTROLS, so each user can ONLY see what they are allowed to, New Hires receive Access to what they need on DAY ONE, and when someone Leaves, YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY WERE ALLOWED TO ACCESS. It also eliminates the use of duplicate passwords, since the Generator does all the heavy lifting. THAT IS IT. THAT IS THE ENTIRE VALUE OF THIS PRODUCT, and it DELIVERS.

**What do you like best about FusionAuth?**

Honestly I think the biggest benefit is that I don’t have to remember a million different passwords anymore and since we use it for work and it handles everything  from generates strong passwords whenever I want one and stores them automatically and populates passwords when I log in somewhere. The password sharing feature has been especially convenient because our whole team needs to get into some accounts and before we would just send them over slack which likely isn’t ideal.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

They had me make a master password which made sense but then they wanted me to make another password as well? And I wasn’t entirely sure if these two passwords were supposed to be the same or if they should be different as the wording of that section wasn’t very clear. And sometimes it even comes up randomly on forms fields that don’t require it, and I have to navigate past it to complete things normally.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are a small team and everyone had kept their passwords in notebooks or reused the same ones all over the place which obviously was not secure. FusionAuth solved that problem for us by providing an easy-to-use solution for our entire team to safely share login credentials without sending them via chat or email.

**What do you like best about FusionAuth?**

I really appreciate the high degree of flexibility in FusionAuth's configuration, which has been incredibly handy. The documentation is another standout feature; my team often solves needs for our product and customers using it without having to reach out for support. The service has been reliable, satisfying all the various use cases we've tested so far. I also like how seamlessly it integrates with our SaaS tool through the API, making the overall experience quite smooth.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

When migrating users with the B2C connector, if a user did not remember their password, the account would not transition properly. They would try to select 'forgot password', but hadn't actually converted their account successfully to FusionAuth yet. Maybe making it more prominent on the options for handling when users don't remember their passwords while transitioning from the old provider would be helpful.

FusionAuth supports diverse user authentications across our platform, including multi-tenant infrastructure, self-sign ups, third-party integrations, and customizable policies, which solves various customer needs.

**What do you like best about FusionAuth?**

I like how easy it was to get FusionAuth up and running and having a full login and user management system in place. The documentation was clear and helpful and I could plug it into our web app with little fuss. The dashboard is simple and gives me quick access to users roles and settings without having to dive into the database manually. I also appreciate the support for multiple authentication methods so our users can sign in in ways that fit them.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

The theme customization felt limited and took extra time to bend it to look like our brand. Some of the more advanced workflows were not intuitive and I had to piece them together by trial and error.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FusionAuth took the pain out of building our own user identity system. Before we were juggling custom code for login sign up password resets and session handling. Now all of that is handled properly and securely which has freed our team to work on our core product. We were also able to add two factor authentication quickly which gave our customers more confidence in our security.

**What do you like best about FusionAuth?**

What I like most about FusionAuth is its flexibility. It’s really intuitive to set up. I’m not a full-time developer, but I’m pretty sure I can configure logins, SSO, and integrations in a much easier way without spending days reading documentation. Fine-grained customization allowed me to form the login experience around my company’s brand perfectly, a process that other avenues made extremely cumbersome. It feels like the control is with me and not that I require external consultants.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

The main drawback is the learning curve once you want to go beyond the basics. Some of the more advanced workflows, such as complex triggers or esoteric identity provider integrations, take a bit of trial and error. Also, while being more approachably priced than Auth0, the add-ons can add up if you’re not careful.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Earlier, we were trying to patch homegrown login systems together with each other as well as with third-party solutions that didn’t speak to each other. This was creating these huge security holes as well as friction for the user. Every one of our sales, support, and engineering teams use the same platform to authenticate and track their interactions.

API documentation and extensibility are strong, and I’ve had great, professional contact with Engineering, with fast responses. Pricing is competitive and transparent, and there’s a calculator available for everyone without needing to contact Sales first. Compared with competitors, it also delivers great performance in batch operations, such as batch importing users. The UI could be a bit more self-descriptive, though.

I don’t think there’s anything like this yet – except, maybe, a few confusing UIs.

We’re currently in the POC stage, so there isn’t much to report yet. Our goal is to address the challenge of handling user authentication securely, including MFA and social login.

I use FusionAuth to handle customer identity management across our product suite, and it has been valuable due to its affordability at our scale compared to Auth0 or Okta. I really appreciate that the platform is fully API-driven, which allows us to automate client and user onboarding, saving us time. The direct communication with FusionAuth solution architects via a private Slack channel was crucial in meeting tight implementation deadlines. With FusionAuth, we can get faster results by going directly to the source, unlike Okta and Entra where we relied on the general developer community. Moreover, the initial setup was relatively straightforward, and we were able to purchase FusionAuth for less money while obtaining more functionality than we had with our Okta subscription.

We ran into some challenges with mixing single tenant applications and multi-tenant applications but we were able to work around it.

FusionAuth offloads the risk of managing sensitive credentials, is more affordable than alternatives like Okta, and its API-driven nature allows us to automate onboarding. Direct access to solutions architects accelerates problem-solving.

I appreciate their flexible self service options for role and permission management. It cuts down my need for engineering involvement for setting and gatekeeping access for  multiple application logins to a single account. The self hosted option gives me control. It also feels modern and easy to manage and it also gives me the peace of mind knowing that all the data remains in our control.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

The documentation provided is detailed but there are instances where it assumes a certain technical knowledge that some of my team members do not possess which can lead to longer onboarding times. And I can understand the need for fast iterative cycles but some updates have introduced minor config changes that have actually broken some things.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FusionAuth is the first centralised system I have used. I can now manage my multiple tools without the fuss of juggling passwords and access policies. It has been particularly liberating for our devs, since they can now implement a secure log in system for multiple projects in a matter of seconds. Overall I have far fewer I can't log in support tickets and more importantly I have more time in my day.

I find FusionAuth very easy to set up and use, with pretty understandable API features. The interface is clean and easy to use, which is good. The pricing is pretty predictable, especially when compared to other services. It's good for developers like me who own a website, thanks to its clean APIs and good API documentation, which is easy to understand and take action on.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

The token lifetimes don't really last long, which is a bit frustrating. Also, when I first logged into FusionAuth, I didn't really understand what it was meant to help with. The interface, while functional, isn't user-friendly or particularly pretty. It wasn't easy to understand at first, and I had to do my own research to figure it out. This part of the experience could definitely be improved.

We use FusionAuth as our primary identity system for user authentication and facilitating SSO with larger clients. I love its full-featured identity management with added security, like MFA. It's very easy to implement, offering almost unlimited flexibility for any desired solution. The onboard and pilot team is fantastic, providing invaluable insights on advanced features as we grow. There's no easier identity solution to set up and deploy, and I wouldn't change a thing as we've had zero issues.

I like that FusionAuth helped me in getting some details about my past accounts, like where the account was created and by which server and browser. It gives me partial access to important information, which is crucial for my research on vulnerability and identity theft. Also, the initial setup of FusionAuth was quite easy.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

I don't like how FusionAuth is available for everyone, which means while I'm using it for my research, others can use it against me to get my information reversed or changed. It would be better if there was a way to enhance privacy, like adding face or retina authentication so that no one can misuse it.

FusionAuth helps me research data lost due to security vulnerabilities, providing partial information about account creation details like server and browser used.

**What do you like best about FusionAuth?**

FusionAuth suited my needs as the authentication system for a number of web applications I use and I particularly like the ease with which I can control different methods of logging in - email/password, social logins, and even magic links. The self-hosted option is particularly appealing because the APIs are simple, and control over the data is guaranteed. I have the freedom of self-hosting without the worry of being stuck in a rigid setup.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

The admin UI could use some work. It is quite frustrating going through many menus for what should be simple adjustments. It takes a lot longer than it should to set some advanced features like a tenant-specific role or a webhook. Other useful features are paid and can be expensive for smaller projects.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FusionAuth saves me countless hours on building authentication systems from scratch, which is a significant portion of time wasting effort. It automates user account consolidation, password management, complicated login processes, user sign up and sign in, and user centralization. With authentication systems no longer being an issue, I can dedicate my time on the actual product.

**What do you like best about FusionAuth?**

Have been using FusionAuth as our primary identity provider for a few years now. It's been fantastic. Their documentation is professionally written and well organized - that along with their "Ask AI" feature has made it possible to accomplish some sophisticated configurations to meet our customer needs without having to reach out needlessly for support. Speaking of support... they are very friendly and quick to respond to messages. Various installation methods (managed or self-hosted) and different plan tiers make it quite flexible for various product needs. The starter plan is very generous and compared to other offerings on the market the cost is minimal. Overall I'm very pleased with selecting FusionAuth as our identity provider.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

Minor gripe, but I would find it helpful to be able to generate more advanced reports on users, usage, sessions, etc from the dashboard directly. Some of the reports I've had to generate in the past were easier to generate by using their API, then writing a quick script to roll-up results. Otherwise, not much to "dislike" about the service - it's frankly been one of the easiest to incorporate into our stack. Very pleased with our decision.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed an affordable way to implement multi-tenancy in a B2B scenario, are were particularly interested in the "Identity Provider" support so we could offer customized SSO for each tenant individually. Achieving this with competitors would be possible, but at significant cost. The primary benefit to FusionAuth for our team has been the ability to fully isolate tenants and configure them to meet varying customer needs. Furthermore, their API has made it possible to automate much of the provisioning and deprovisioning of tenants, users, and other bits of configuration.

I like that FusionAuth is straightforward to use, and it just works without any downtime or hiccups. Its easy integration and configuration to add a third-party authentication provider are nice features and very easy to set up. The initial setup was also pretty straightforward.

The flexibility and developer-friendliness are my favorite things about FusionAuth. It can be a real challenge to configure multi-step authentication processes when you’re not a full-stack security engineer; however, it is enough to get it done in a few simple tweaks due to the existing functionality and lucid documentation. I hardly ever need anything that’s not already onboard, but if I do, the API is robust enough to not struggle to hammer it into other systems.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

Indeed, the depth of the system might be overwhelming for a novice, and it will take some time to get accustomed to the functionality before all settings are configured properly. Comparing it with Auth0 or Okta, it is reasonably priced, though some advanced enterprise features may feel expensive for a micro-enterprise. More so, file limits concerning logs, and event data may also prove a limitation in case you would want to archive an extensive history.

FusionAuth centralized identity and access management so there are no more scattered authentication systems for different applications. We’ve reduced our risks by using fine-grained role and permission settings and the integration of our external systems means less time building one-off login solutions. What I love most about FusionAuth is that it let us centralize our authentication and user management without having to build everything ourselves. We had dozens of apps with fragmented login flows, and FusionAuth helped us unify them under a single, secure system. The React SDK and robust API support made integration surprisingly smooth—even with some of our older applications.

The hosted UI felt limiting at times—we had some very specific customization needs that were hard to implement using their pre-built components. Also, while the docs are good overall, searching for advanced implementation details (like how IDs behave in multi-tenant setups) can be frustrating. It’s not as intuitive for smaller teams or startups that are just getting familiar with complex IAM concepts.

I love how FusionAuth is so developer-centric and flexible. It took me just days to integrate it into our SaaS platform, rather than the weeks of authentication setup we used to go through. The flexibility related to user authentication flows, specifically multi-tenant login, social login, passkeys, and biometrics, is just outstanding. Universal logins along with two-factor support were quite a professional first-day undertaking in terms of security setups.

The major drawback that I have faced has to do with pricing clarity as one scales. For startups or teams who have just started with user authentication, it is not always obvious wherein the long run the cost implications lie. It would be very useful if FusionAuth was clearer on its cost structures at scale.

**What do you like best about FusionAuth?**

We have complex needs in that we’re a multi-sided, multi-tenant enterprise SaaS platform and need to support customer specific identity providers for SSO. We also require end-to-end authentication across different applications, microservices, and APIs. FusionAuth’s flexible multi-tenant architecture and first-class developer experience enabled us to unify all of this in short order, and made it simpler than others (at the time) to do so.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

Their commercial practices are horrible. For many years we were a "no maintenance" customer, never needing to leverage their support or complain in any way. At the request of their CEO we let them do a press release about our selection of them. We served as a sales reference too, even speaking with prospects, at least one of which became a customer spending more than double what we did.

Last year, out of the blue, FusionAuth dropped a more than 2x price increase coupled with an annual commitment under the guise of dropping high availability hosting from the plan we were on. We didn't need any of the features in the new tier, either. 

Their account executive hounded us relentlessly via email and voice mail, all the while ignoring our request for specifics as to how a downgrade would be handled if we did not proceed. Ironically, their VP of sales would email about "our continued partnership." Meanwhile, their backoffice kept renewing our existing plan, sending mixed messages.

After years of being their advocate, we were left feeling like just another number to squeeze for revenue.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FusionAuth’s IAM platform was built with developers in mind and is API-first, meaning developers are able to easily integrate its authorization and authentication services such as OAuth, OpenID Connect and SAML directly into the products they're building. At the time we selected them, they were leagues ahead of other competitors like Auth0 in this regard.

What I appreciate most about FusionAuth is how seamlessly it secures our environment using multi-factor authentication (MFA) without compromising on usability. The FusionAuth Push feature is by far the most convenient — I just tap my phone to approve access, no codes needed. Its integration with Microsoft 365, on-prem Active Directory, Meraki, and even third-party apps like AWS and Falcon Antivirus has made deployment very flexible across our stack. I also really value the Unified Endpoint Visibility dashboard — it gives me a clear view of every device accessing our systems, from corporate laptops to BYODs.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

FusionAuth’s setup process can be overwhelming, especially when configuring SSO with on-prem systems — the documentation is there, but it demands careful reading. It’s also frustrating that you need internet access for it to work; there's no offline mode fallback. And while the mobile-first experience is great, it becomes a problem if the phone is lost or forgotten — you’re effectively locked out.

By enforcing MFA and verifying the security posture of each device (OS version, encryption, etc.), it reduces our exposure to phishing, stolen credentials, and insider misuse. The Duo Push-style interface, where users can just tap a notification instead of putting in codes, makes it more easier for people to use, even teams who aren't very tech-savvy. We’ve even been able to scale usage across over 2,000 endpoints without breaking a sweat.

The initial setup, especially configuring SSO with on-prem Active Directory or federated 365 domains, required a lot of careful reading and re-reading of documentation. It’s not something you want to rush, and integration with legacy systems wasn’t as plug-and-play as we’d hoped. Sometimes, the authentication pop-ups don’t appear unless the app is manually opened, which frustrates some of our users.

FusionAuth's ability to concentrate everything I need into one, simple platform appeals most to me. FusionAuth provides one tidy dashboard where all of my professional apps sit; I no longer have to go through bookmarks or balance several logins to identify the correct tools. Not only tools, the single sign-on and multi-factor authentication are daily lifesaver. It feels like my entire workflow got a speed boost and a security upgrade all at once.

The multi-step login, especially with MFA, can feel a bit tedious—there have been moments where codes don’t sync or I need to retry a few times. Also, switching devices (especially phones) messes with the setup and isn't as seamless as it should be. And compared to a few competitors like Okta or Auth0, FusionAuth's UI feels a little more functional than refined.

It has been quite simple to set up roles, control user access, and apply SSO throughout several SaaS systems. It also has strong API support and seamlessly incorporate into our CI/CD processes which have greatly delighted me.

One drawback I have observed is that, like Entra ID P2, some of the sophisticated security and identity governance tools call for premium licensing. Furthermore, especially in troubleshooting, the on-site synchronizing mechanism might be more open and user-friendly. Although FusionAuth is quite flexible, mass actions usually call for scripting knowledge—PowerShell in other platforms or custom CLI tools here—which might not be perfect for non-technical teams.

FusionAuth has greatly simplified user ID management for hybrid systems. It’s refreshing to see a platform that doesn’t get in my way when I want to tweak things deeply, even with custom themes and tenant-specific configurations.

The UI is functional but not exactly delightful—it’s very utilitarian. What I like most about FusionAuth is how incredibly easy it is to integrate into our applications, especially when working under tight deadlines. Its adaptability with social logins changes everything. I have used it for minimal setup single sign-on and two factor authentication. The Universal Login function also made our sign-in process flawless on several platforms. It’s one of the few tools I’ve worked with that feels like it was built with developers in mind.

The only real drawback I’ve noticed is the pricing as your usage scales — it can become a concern for startups or smaller teams. While support is generally helpful, having more instant, real-time assistance for critical production issues would be great. What we truly like is that it is quite seamless to utilise several separate client environments with only a single FusionAuth instance. The flexibility of the theming of our online onboarding process of new B2B customers has allowed us to add a branded login experience without any glitches. We also found the custom data fields so helpful in assigning specific fields of data to user profiles, in order to drive some of our internal analytics.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

The configuration settings that are not used often, at times, are a little less transparent to navigate the console. We also would have liked to see an easier way to export/import whole application setups between our development and production servers. There was also a steep learning curve to using some of the advanced webhook event triggers, although this got easier as time went on.

We found it very difficult to offer different branded identity experiences to each of our B2B clients, and then have a single user database. Previously to FusionAuth it could take weeks of custom development to implement a new customer inviting them to use a customized portal into their company and managing their user account. Once, it takes weeks to spin up a new client tenant with its own branding, and user roles, now it only takes a matter of hours. It has turned onboarding client workflows into a fast repeatable procedure.

FusionAuth has been very easy to integrate with, supports all of our requirements, including a vendor supported terraform module, and the admin/management UI is easy to work with and navigate. Developers were able to  adapt easily to the new provider and new features have been very easy to implement. Their customer support has been fabulous when we needed them.  We utilize FusionAuth for all systems in all environments.

There is one nagging bug that we would love fixed that happens rarely but it's a difficult fix I guess and still has not been released.

FusionAuth is our authorization system for our applications. It helps us meet our compliance requirements and requires no real management from us. Our customers like it because of the seamless SSO support and MFA capabilities. It's available as a SaaS product which we use for most of our applications. For a very few specialized deployments which frown upon using a cloud offering, we can deploy FusionAuth in a container and meet those requirements.

What really won me over with FusionAuth is how naturally it fits into our Microsoft-heavy environment. Setting up SSO across Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint felt like flipping one big switch — suddenly, people weren’t forgetting passwords or pinging IT for access issues every other day. Conditional Access is one of those features I didn’t know I needed until I had it; I can allow access based on location or device, which has been huge for our remote team. Also, being able to roll out MFA using the Microsoft Authenticator app made our compliance team very happy without annoying our staff.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

The initial setup almost broke me. Trying to integrate FusionAuth with our older on-prem Active Directory was like stitching two universes together, and don’t get me started on SAML — it feels half-baked compared to Okta’s clean implementation. Also, some of the policies become a labyrinth over time; one misstep and you’re locked out of your own admin portal wondering what went wrong.

FusionAuth has been a bit of a game-changer for us—not in the flashy, overhyped way some tools promise to be, but in a grounded, reliable kind of way. What I’ve come to appreciate is how it quietly takes care of the identity chaos that used to haunt our stack. Setting up OAuth2 and SSO was surprisingly smooth; I had our core app talking to FusionAuth in under ten minutes, which honestly shocked me after wrestling with tools like Keycloak in the past.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

Multi-tenant setups took some brainpower and trial-and-error, especially since our team doesn’t live and breathe IAM. The reporting side also feels undercooked—it gives you the basics, but if you’re used to slicing and dicing access logs like you can with tools like Okta, you’ll feel a bit boxed in. And while support is helpful, I’ve had moments where I wished for a bit more than just a link to the docs when tackling edge-case scenarios.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We no longer have five different half-baked login flows duct-taped together, and managing access across environments doesn’t require a prayer and a late night. The fact that we can host it ourselves gives us peace of mind—especially in Fintech, where compliance paranoia is kind of the norm. Compared to Auth0, which got expensive fast, and rolling our own solution (which was a nightmare I’d rather not revisit), FusionAuth hits that sweet spot: flexible enough to grow with us, stable enough to trust, and just opinionated enough to keep us out of trouble.

FusionAuth is a solid identity and access management (IAM) platform, and what stands out the most—what I “like best”—depends a bit on the use case, but here are the big highlights:

	1.	Developer-Friendliness: FusionAuth is built with developers in mind. It’s easy to install (via Docker or native install), well-documented, and has good SDKs for multiple languages. The API-first approach makes it very customisable.

	2.	Feature-Rich for Free Tier: The Community edition offers a surprising number of features out of the box—like OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, 2FA, JWT support, and more—without needing a paid plan right away.

	3.	Self-Hosting Option: Unlike many identity providers that are strictly SaaS, FusionAuth lets you self-host. That’s huge for organisations that need control over data, want to comply with specific regulations, or just prefer managing their own stack.

	4.	Extensibility: You can add custom JWT claims, create custom user data fields, and even run Lambdas (small bits of custom code) during events like login or registration.

	5.	Migration & Import Tools: FusionAuth has robust tooling for migrating from other auth systems—super useful when switching from Auth0, Firebase, or a custom-built solution.

	6.	Multi-Tenant Support: If you’re building a SaaS platform, their multi-tenant support makes it easy to separate user bases across different organisations or applications.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

the admin UI can feel clunky and unintuitive at times, especially when configuring more advanced features like custom workflows or email templates. It works, but there’s a bit of a learning curve and some UX polish could go a long way.

Also, for very large-scale enterprise needs, you might hit some limitations unless you go with the paid version.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Steep Learning Curve for Advanced Features: While basic setup is straightforward, configuring things like multi-tenancy, custom JWT claims, or advanced workflows can be confusing without diving deep into docs.

	2.	UI/UX Friction: The admin dashboard isn’t the most intuitive—some settings are buried in menus or worded in ways that aren’t super clean.

	3.	Limited Built-in User Management Tools: Compared to some competitors, bulk user management, advanced segmentation, or analytics features are limited or require external integration.

	4.	Community Support vs. Enterprise: The community edition is great, but support is community-based unless you pay for a plan. This can be a bottleneck if you hit a critical issue and need fast help.

	5.	Customisation Has Limits: While extensible, certain workflows (like custom registration flows or deep UI customisation) might require awkward workarounds or external systems.

What I love most about FusionAuth is how it brings together all the tools and platforms I need under one secure roof and as a result I no longer waste time hunting down login links or juggling a dozen passwords and everything I need is in one place. It’s easy to use, integrates seamlessly with other systems, and the browser extension makes starting my day effortless. I especially appreciate the ability to customize access depending on roles within the organization and something other tools like Okta and OneLogin struggled to handle as cleanly.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

One thing I wish FusionAuth handled better is session duration and I’d love the option to stay logged in for a defined number of days without being forced to reauthenticate so often. Occasionally, if a deployment isn’t planned well, it can feel overwhelming for new users to get the hang of. I’ve also noticed some limitations with integrating tools like Jira and Git, which competitors like Okta seem to support more readily.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before using FusionAuth, my daily routine started with manually logging into more than 10 applications, often spending 10–15 minutes just getting set up. Now, I log in once, and FusionAuth handles the rest—saving me time and mental bandwidth every single day. It’s also solved the major headache of password management; I only need to remember one, and with MFA options like SMS or app authentication, I feel secure.

We never had a downtime or an impact for login functions after using FusionAuth.

Changing the front-end / UI reuqires a special skillsets or work with a few vendors. This could have been simplified.

It offers a compelling alternative to more established players, especially for teams that prioritize data ownership, customization, and a transparent pricing model for advanced features. While it might not have the out-of-the-box UI polish of some competitors, its raw power and self-hosting capabilities make it a strong contender for a wide range of applications, from startups to enterprises.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

Admin UI/UX: While functional, the admin UI can feel a bit dated and less intuitive compared to the slick dashboards of Auth0 or Clerk. Finding certain settings or configuring advanced workflows can sometimes require a bit of digging through documentation.

Theming Customization Complexity: While powerful, fully customizing the look and feel of the hosted login pages to perfectly match your brand can be more involved than with solutions that offer more WYSIWYG or component-based theming.

Fewer "Out-of-the-Box" Pre-built UI Components: Unlike Clerk, which excels here, FusionAuth provides the backend and APIs, but you'll be building more of the frontend integration yourself (or using their base themes which might need more tweaking).

FusionAuth is excellent for solving complex identity challenges where off-the-shelf SaaS solutions might be too restrictive or expensive.

Avoiding Vendor Lock-in & Unpredictable Costs: The self-hosting option and clearer pricing tiers for features (rather than purely MAU-based for core functionality) provide more control and predictability.

Integrating with a Diverse Tech Stack: Its language-agnostic nature and robust APIs make it easier to integrate with various backend and frontend technologies.

**What do you like best about FusionAuth?**

I love that it is developer-oriented and super flexible. Usually, any of the competitors are extremely expensive and difficult to use, but FusionAuth makes things super smooth and easy to implement. We have utilized the Terraform integration to deploy it, making our infrastructure easier to maintain and develop.

When it comes to users, it is a smooth integration that allows the user to authenticate from any of our platforms with ease and provides all the authentication methods that we would need. We primarily use magic links to avoid using passwords, and the integration was very straightforward forward and it works like a charm.

They also provide third-party integrations, such as Kafka, that make integration with the rest of our infrastructure extremely straightforward, allowing us to utilize what we already have.

Their customer support is great, we have only had great experiences when we need to contact them.

We have more than 20,000 users and around 4,000 monthly active users, and have used this product in production for more than 4 years.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

Because FusionAuth is so developer-oriented, the integration with templates and UI is very complicated. There's no easy way to implement a custom theme, so it is easier to create a custom solution that uses their internal system. UX is not the best with their default system, so it's better to steer away from that completely.

It would be awesome if they allowed some kind of infrastructure peering to make the integration with existing cloud infrastructure easier and more secure without having to deploy our self-managed instance.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use FusionAuth to offer a single point of entry for our users. We provide services that integrate multiple systems and FusionAuth provides the use with an easy way to login to all of those systems. We have thousands of people using our systems so this is a secure and budget friendly solution to easily manage all the users in one central place.

**What do you like best about FusionAuth?**

FusionAuth makes it easy to add safe and secure auth in a way where I don't have to worry about the pitfalls of writing our own security. I especially like how all the edge cases are considered, and "nice to have" features such as rate limiting, CAPTCHA, and social login in is just a single click to enable. It has thorough API documentation that makes it easy to implement as well as several client libraries for all the platforms we used. Support has been excellent and helped us with many problems. I love that it can be self hosted, so we can set up systems locally for development and testing.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

FusionAuth lacks documentation on the client libraries, although thankfully they're mostly wrappers of the API so documentation can be gleamed. FusionAuth also has a gap between "easy" things and "difficult" things. Ie, once you need a single feature beyond what a Simple Theme can provide, it requires converting the whole thing to advanced themes.

Support is not very active in the development, as evidenced by the number of open issues on Github which haven't been addressed in years.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FusionAuth allows us to break free from our tech debt of self-rolled auth, and in the process allows us to have modern features such as MFA and social login that would have taken a lot of dev work to make. FusionAuth also lets us have one sign-on platform for all of our products, instead of previously requiring many accounts to accomplish the same task.

Most importantly, FusionAuth allows us to not worry about security (including the continual maintenance of our auth) and instead focus on other business objectives.

FusionAuth stands out as a developer-friendly identity and access management (IAM) platform that excels in ease of integration, flexibility, and multi-tenancy—qualities especially valuable for SaaS providers. I really like the SaaS offering with its development friendly pricing with option to upgrade for a more enterprise level of scalability and availability.
Administration of the SaaS instance is headache free with option to update FusionAuth by a "single" button with a minimal downtime.
IAM admin panel have nice UI/UX which was important at beginning of our IAM adventure because we did not have enough time to integrate IAM admin panel into our application.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

It would be nice to integrate FusionAuth SaaS offering into our monitoring and uptime tracking solutions. Right now we do not see easy solution for this.
Our custom workflows required to write a library to ensure no possibility of making mistakes when integrating it in our modular backend application.

I really appreciate the customization FusionAuth brings to the table - it’s a standout feature that gives you the flexibility to mold it to your specific needs. The model is well-designed, and the feature set is impressive, covering a lot of bases for authentication and user management. It feels developer-friendly, which makes integration into projects smoother and more enjoyable.

**What do you dislike about FusionAuth?**

Despite its strengths, there are some frustrating drawbacks. The API breaking between releases is a big issue - it’s disruptive and adds unnecessary rework. I also found the authorization customization lacking; there’s no easy way to implement permission-based or attribute-based authorization, which feels like a missed opportunity for a service like this. On top of that, the API can be unreliable. For example, when deleting a user from a group, I’ve seen inconsistent results—sometimes it removes their roles, sometimes it doesn’t, and it’s unpredictable. These issues make it harder to rely on consistently.

**What problems is FusionAuth solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FusionAuth is solving problems related to authentication, authorization, two-factor authentication (2FA), and single sign-on (SSO) by offering a system that manages user logins, assigns basic roles, provides 2FA options like Google Authenticator or SMS, and enables SSO across applications using standards like OAuth2 and OpenID Connect. For me, this means I can offload these identity management tasks without building them from scratch, which reduces development time. However, the inconsistent API behavior - like unpredictable role deletions when removing users from groups - and limited authorization flexibility require me to spend extra effort on workarounds or adjustments.

Typically our API rarely changes (we occasionally may add parameters or additional API endpoints but the existing functionality rarely changes). Not to say it never does but we’d be very interested in determining when and how this occurred for you. With that, if you would not mind sharing the API endpoints that gave you trouble on our Community Forum (https://fusionauth.io/community/forum/) we’d be interested in taking a look. If you believe you have found an undocumented bug you can also file an issue here (https://github.com/FusionAuth/fusionauth-issues/issues/).

Regarding your comment about roles and groups, I agree that aspect can be confusing at times. You can find a description of what happens with roles when removing a user from a group here (https://fusionauth.io/docs/apis/groups#remove-users-from-a-group). The major take away is how the roles were applied to the user originally. If roles were originally applied to a user upon registration to an application, manually via the FusionAuth Admin UI, or by using the User API, adding or removing them from a group will not affect those roles. If roles were added when adding a user to a group, then removing that user from the group will also remove the roles.
