What do you like best about Functionly?

Functionly is truly a game-changer in the realm of organizational development tools. As a consultant, I've had the pleasure of utilizing the platform multiple times, and I am consistently blown away by its impeccable user experience. The platform's functionality is top-notch and makes my work so much more efficient. I've had the unique experience of journeying alongside the product development team and it's evident that they genuinely value and consider user feedback, which speaks volumes about their commitment to continuous improvement. I can't rave enough about Functionly. Highly recommend! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Functionly?

I love the capabilities that Functionaly presents to me when it comes to better understanding my organization's capabilities. The canned functions, along with the ability to assign individuals within the org chart to their functional area, have helped to provide crisp clarity to the gaps in our staffing, capabilities, and preparedness to scale and meet our larger strategic objectives.

Additionally, the ability to utilize this tool to develop forward-facing staffing plans, with costing, skill set needs, and utilizing that to shape our recruitment and interview prioritization and execution has been immensely valuable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Functionly?

Some features are present and powerful but not as apparent or obvious when you're new to the application. A brief call with the Funcitonly team QUICKLY demonstrated the team's thoughtfulness and feature-rich application. I wish I hadn't needed the assistance, but 85% of my needs were met intuitively. It's that last 15% that would be my biggest gripe. (And it's not a big one) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?

Functionaly is providing a fresh view of our organizational structure, capabilities, growth areas, opportunities, and skill density.

The ability to quickly identify gaps in skills or capabilities helps to identify the gaps in our company's roles to strategically plan, tactically execute, and grow into the organization we want to be. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Functionly?

Generally, an org chart becomes obsolete the next day it's been finalized. The great thing about Functionly is that it splits the reporting and the accountabilities. Reporting does not change much generally, but new accountabilities in a business come up every day and Functionly makes it easy to assign them as they come without affecting the reporting chart. The result is that at any time, any employee can see who is responsible for what in the organization and every employee is clearly aware of their accountabilities.

Most important for such a powerful tool is the excellent support! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Functionly?

I wish there were more tutorial videos on how to strategically build a Functionly chart. Should we start from the functions, the teams, the roles or the people? A blank template (no functions, no roles) would be good too, or at least an option to remove all the functions and roles from a template. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?

Functionly gives me the ability to adjust the accountabilities without affecting the reporting org chart and it clarifies the accountabilities across the organization. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Functionly?

It helps us think more clearly about the functions we'll need and where they'll fit in our team, instead of just drawing an org chart. The user interface is modern and elegant. Their people (including the CEO) are eager to listen to feedback and brainstorm about how to make the product better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Functionly?

I'd like to be able to understand the impact of our plans in terms of the list of personnel changes and the effect on our cashflow -- but they've done a great job of listening to my comments and giving me confidence that they understand and have ideas to enhance their product to help. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Functionly:

Take advantage of the opportunity to talk with their team. They're interested in what you're trying to accomplish, and they'll help point you in the right direction. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?

We're a new startup, and we're planning our growth. In the old days, I would have drawn an org chart in Visio and kept track of numbers in Excel. With Functionly, I'm able to think through the functions we'll need, where those functions best fit in the organization, and which roles we'll need on each team. It's helping us to do better planning and to communicate our plans to the team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Functionly?

Functionly did save a lot of my time comparing with chart builders(draw.io, etc) when I did plan org structure for my startup because it purpose-built. Also, I like:

1. Templates for functions and jobs

2. Lightweight and easy to use UI with drag and drop

3. Ability to build multiple org chart scenarios and compare

4. Possibility to export org chart and job descriptions

5. Generous 22 days free trial (no credit card required) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Functionly?

It already gives excellent value, however, there are a lot of features that will skyrocket this value in the future, for example adding KPI's to each position and making them live via connecting to data sources via Zapier. Also, there are minor UX issues, which I believe will be resolved in the future, like adding vacant position as a manager, inability to add a team on the top of other teams (but there is backdoor for this, you can add a new team and then put other teams inside this team) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Functionly:

Try to build few different scenarios, of course, based on your use case - growth, hiring, restructuring. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?

I did build growth scenarios for my startup - primeclass.io. Functionly did save a lot of my time on this. Here I can drag and drop prebuilt components -teams, jobs, functions into my orgchart. Another great feature is that Functionly shows which function unassigned to the team members. It is dead simple to use and a pleasure to work in Functionly, comparing with other chart solutions where you need to do everything from the scratch. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Functionly?

team-based org modeling; built-in function library and ability to put people into multiple teams Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Functionly?

UX is a bit rough, or janky in some areas, needs autoscroll and more progressive disclosure, no dotted lines or non-primary views/layers, sharing functionality is a bit limited, and we connection to JustWorks and other HR systems is a real requirement. Stuff appears too dense at a small scale. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Functionly:

this is the only tool that let's you plan and model an organization--we all start out thinking we want to make an org chart, but what we really need to do is to plan an org, from which the org chart materializes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?

Org chart development and team structure development Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Functionly?

We have always needed the ability to view our org by job function and accountability. We never knew this until we were part of the beta program a couple years ago. It was an a-ha moment, but immediately clicked. We have been using Functionaly as it has been evolving over the past few years and it is now an important part of our operations. We review the output regularly at our Quarterly Offsites and it really helps align Managers to their Direct Reports. Also, being able to view the org in various dimensions is extremely useful for identifying gaps. During the pandemic, we moved to a 100% remote workforce. This created an immediate need for greater visibility into who does what and how we would manage an immediate need for new accountabilities. Functionaly solved these problems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Functionly?

A few UI features are not as intuitive as I would like. In the latest release, there is an inability to remove People and I like a clean dataset. These aren't big deals. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Functionly:

Consider how flawed a regular org chart is. Companies have org charts which don't align with how people actually interact on a day-to-day basis between each other, the roles and descriptions they were hired for and expectations with those not directly involved in the hiring process. Noodle on how things are and how you would like them to be, then play around with this product. This product is creating a new category so don't spend too much time trying to rationalize the output like a traditional org chart. Suspend disbelief momentarily and just let the output sink in. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?

2 big problems we are solving are 1. organized buckets to assign responsibilities and accountability and 2. a very fast way to identify gaps in the organization. #2 is a big deal because historically when something went wrong people just pointed fingers. Once we implemented Functionaly we quickly realized that accountabilities and responsibilities that managers thought were assigned, were actually not. This really helped us become more efficient at solving problems quickly and reduced anxiety with management team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Functionly?

This tool saves me time and makes me look good with clients. I no longer have to waste time cobbling together Powerpoints and Excel to show different ways to structure a modern marketing team. I can instead drag and drop individuals and teams, and create multiple scenarios in a flash. I can also create a library of functions that can be re-used, and it can help generate position descriptions. All in all it is a powerful, intuitive, purpose-built tool that is perfect for designing modern teams. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Functionly?

There is not much to dislike about this tool, and if there's ever an issue the team are super responsive. The only feature that will improve it in future, is a decent export function in multiple formats so that you can include the org design in reports. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?

I'm a consultant who helps Chief Marketing Officers to design modern marketing teams, and I use Functionly to help me design and present multiple ways to do this - from product-centric, audience-centric, hub and spoke, to agile teams etc. It allows me to easily show which functions exist in which teams, who's on what teams, who reports into who and whether there is any double-up in functions. Once you've agreed on the final structure, you can then allocate accountabilities and responsibilities, and create position descriptions right from inside the tool. It has saved me many many hours mucking around with Powerpoint, Excel and Word. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Functionly?

Functionly saves me money, headaches and addresses problems I didn't think could be solved with a beautiful piece of software. I can manage the org chart and jobs to be done directly in functionly so I don't need to manage my organisational chart/roles/responsibilities and our team understand the expectations, their role and can perform at their best in a fast-moving agile environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Functionly?

So far, I like all things functionly. I would love a startup tier as I think there are other businesses like ours that may not yet see the benefits to using functionly. I would like to see future integrations link with LinkedIn to import team members Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Functionly:

It's a versatile software that is intuitive and good-looking. It's functional and once set up helpful to communicate with team members. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Functionly solving and how is that benefiting you?

Job expectations of employees. Cross-overs of roles within the organisation and in different departments. Replication of org chart for stakeholders. Seeing gaps that need to be filled. Identifying job-creep. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
