What do you like best about Flexera One?

Cloud Management Platform (CMP) provides the potential to manage usage in multiple clouds that meet our use case requirements and provides scriptable interfaces that we can leverage. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Flexera One?

A lot of our researchers leverage credit programs from the suppliers. That means billing is at best unconventional, and so while it's possible to get accounts hooked up in CMP, usage is fuzzier, and management policies based on usage are harder to implement. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Flexera One:

Think about what's important in terms of provisioning and managing instances, what orchestration you need, what kinds of networking considerations you may have. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Flexera One solving and how is that benefiting you?

We've able to prototype jobs to see what clouds cost to get typical workflows completed, and then provide that to our users in a kind of comparative shopping page. CMP provides the potential to initiate those instances and monitor them. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Flexera One?

We first started using the RightScale platform at a time when AWS only had an API and didn't have an administrative console. From the beginning RightScale made it possible to minimize the number of server images we needed by making it easy to create server templates that would take a common base image and configure it after boot. It also makes it easy to remote command things to run on multiple servers at once. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Flexera One?

Now that every cloud platform has a robust console up, the original benefit of having a web based console for managing servers instead of relying purely on an API has dwindled considerably. Most things I would have previously relied on CMP for can now be done with a few clicks in the individual cloud. As such the Cost to Value ratio on CMP has changed considerably since we joined. What was once a must-have feature is now a commodity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Flexera One solving and how is that benefiting you?

We still use CMP to manage our instances on AWS. We use the array functionality to make easy arrays of servers behind ELBs and NLBs, and still use server templates and rightscripts to manage our instances easily. Being able to use a relative few number of server templates and have near infinite flexibility in what the servers do on launch is a great plus that is hard to manage with APIs or the individual platform's management consoles alone. What do you like best about Flexera One?

Cloud Management Platform is really stable and can serve lots of deployments. In my company, we've given cloud access to each developer (total : 1000+) to have their individual product install on Cloud and they are able to deploy, develop and troubleshoot our proprietary application using Cloud Management platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Flexera One?

Since we operate on a very large scale, we do face issues with some deployments. Sometimes we are able to resolve the issue but at other times we are not. If there are issues with a high priority deployment on which many users/teams are dependent, then it becomes challenging to explain to stakeholders and causes loss of time for multiple teams during re-try. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Flexera One solving and how is that benefiting you?

We're able to replace our company data center and use Public Cloud with help of CMP. Engineering as well Production users are using deployments spun up using this platform and it is supporting us greatly in enabling our customers to use the product we build. What do you like best about Flexera One?

The Self-Service User Interface is straight-forward in terms of a marketplace presence. The Cloud Management portal provides a convenient intermediate-level for platform-level and IT configuration and monitoring. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Flexera One?

Depending on the use case, UI extension layout and information must be done via the API. While there is documentation available on the use of the API, examples for the calls are not provided. Some of the API call limitations are not documented. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Flexera One:

Initial support in the area of set up and configured is provided extremely well by the support staff. Once initial knowledge and experience is gained support, while sympathetic, has little to no way of providing status for issues submitted to product development/engineering. This is also true for suggested corrections/enhancements to the product support when API documentation states one thing, but results in something other than the expected results. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Flexera One solving and how is that benefiting you?

Primarily in areas of backup/restore/replication of various artifacts. There is no way to replicate artifacts between accounts and clouds, only within a cloud and within an account. VMware is not supported very well for larger on premise install bases. The API in these areas is extremely limited.

On the benefits side, we have successfully extended our use cases to multi-platform use with said single-pane of glass. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The tool is great but recently there has been multiple instances when the service went down with schedules maintenance window but the folks at flexara where supportive in understanding the issue and bringing service up in no time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Flexera One:

CMP can serve as a good tool for quick and swift transition to Cloud. Its ease of use makes it perfect solution for each organisation currently using on-premise model. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Flexera One?

The ability to orchestrate deployments into a number of clouds, both private and public. The ability to front-end this with a Self-Service UI. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Flexera One?

A number of CMP features are quite outdated and stale, such as dashboards, monitoring. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Flexera One:

Look at implementing a CI/CD pipeline for the CMP management as well, doing this earlier will make you much more agile going on. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Flexera One solving and how is that benefiting you?

Flexera CMP has enabled us to achieve a major reduction in time to deploy new customer facing environments and interface with multiple data centers, public and private. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Flexera One?

There is a lot of hype around CMP and Rightscale from Flexera. We evaluated a few products online and based on recommendations, went ahead with Flexera rightscale. The good part about Rightscale is the support model and the quick response we get from Rightscale support. There are a tutorials and learning mateirial also available for us to get onboarded. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Flexera One?

The learning curve seems huge. The Rightscale language is different and for onboarding Java developers, we need more examples, scenarios, boards where devs can talk and ask questions etc. The custom action creation seems a challenge initially. Plus Rightscale response to custom actions is slow and takes a few more seconds than the underlying action would. Also debugging is a challenge coming from Java bakground. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Flexera One:

Cost management on cloud is a key differentiatior in any migration from inhouse to cloud. But the cost should be considered keeping in mind the ease of rolling out and management. Eventually most probably you would have java/.net developers as part of the team who come with a different set of mindset to programming and support. Look for a tool which has good support, learning material and also helps in managing cost by displaying, alering on usage of a sever set up for testing etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Flexera One solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are migrating our product to google cloud and needed a CMP to help us manage and setup our tool on multi-tenant scenario. While there were a lot of changes we need in the app, we also had to work on imgae creation and docker migration etc. Here Rightscale and its solutions is helping us smoothen out the deployment and usage of the Cloud. This is also for helping us manage the cost Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Flexera One?

Ease of learning, ease of deployment, support and a well defined robust process of CAT (cloud access template) management and custom actions for each deployment. Custom actions are a heart of any deployment and give the ease to run specific operations on any server on cloud. These can be as simple as stopping a server to as complex as changing a configuration on a server and then restarting it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Flexera One?

The speed at which the CMP triggers a custom action is slower than if we were to use the underlying commands. FOr example if we use a google cloud command to create a server it is faster than a cat with a custom action to do so. This limits the seed at which deployments can be made on cloud. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Flexera One:

Ease of training material and ready made snippets of code to help developers work. This helps lessen the learning curve and debugging the application. Writing custom actions is difficult if help is not available for new teams. Also look for solutions which have a good support team. This will help when the team is stuck with a scenario where their may be a requireemnt for code review of expert advise. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Flexera One solving and how is that benefiting you?

moving the product to cloud platform and the ease of releasing versions of the product. Any blue-green rollover or a clean deployment is much easier as we have a form like page for support engineers instead of complex set of commands for performing actions. A runbook can be easily created to provide instructions on what needs to be done in any scenario for support engineers to work on. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Compare to other products, also open source projects Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
