FeedbackFruits Tool Suite Overview

What is FeedbackFruits Tool Suite?

FeedbackFruits originated out of a desire to stimulate interaction between students and teachers. For a long time, lectures have been a one-way delivery system for information, offering little opportunity for student engagement. Overcoming this obstacle is central to the company's mission: helping teachers build engaging learning activities. FeedbackFruits has developed a suite of pedagogical tools that integrate into learning management systems (LMSs) to provide teachers extensive capabilities in their course designs, and improve the quality of students' learning experience. In terms of user experience, all tools in the suite have a similar look and feel, which flattens the learning curve for teachers and students. The available tools in the suite support learning activities related to pedagogical themes such as: peer assessment, interaction within study material, collaborative learning, team based learning, skill feedback and engaging online discussions. (Peer) Feedback (Peer) feedback tools structure and streamline the process of students reviewing skills or work from peers or teachers reviewing skills/work from students. Learning activity examples: Students peer assess each others’ draft group reports before the final hand-in, students give feedback on their peers' collaboration skills so teachers discover free riders in group projects, teacher evaluates students' assignments or in-class presentations according to his/her own rubric, students receive AI-powered instant feedback on their written work. Tools: Peer Review, Group Member Evaluation, Assignment Review, Skill Review, Automated Feedback Interactive Study Material Interactive study material tools enhance the process of students consuming study content such as articles, videos or podcasts. The problem is that students are often only passively consuming content. These tools add interactivity and foster social learning to enhance the study experience. Learning activity example: Ask students to add comments in readings or videos prior to a lecture (flipping the classroom). Tools: Interactive Video, Interactive Document, Interactive Audio, Comprehension Online Discussion Online discussion tools have the purpose of encouraging critical and reflective thinking and generating dialogue with peers. This is done by providing explicit instructions and facilitating a step by step meaningful dialogue. Learning activity example: Organise an open-ended, formative or summative discussion at scale. Tool: Discussion Assignment Interactive Classrooms Interactive classrooms tools are built to foster engagement in class. It allows you to add interactive questions to existing powerpoint slides. A low-barrier solution that avoids students to passively attend your lectures. Learning activity example: Students anonymously answer controversial questions in class. Tool: Interactive Presentation

What do you like best about FeedbackFruits Tool Suite?

They have a great range of functionality and are always looking to improve and enhance the tools. So, you know the platform will grow to meet the needs of their clients, ensuring they are delivering the best tools that facilitate good pedagogical practice, but more importantly, are easy to use and actually work on a logistical and practical scale in the virtual classroom from 7 to 700 students. What do you dislike about FeedbackFruits Tool Suite?

Because there are so many updates and new features in the pipline, I would love to have a way to know what are the new features being worked on, big and small, from DoTanks or day-to-day FeedbackFruits roadmap work. It can be difficult to stay on top of everything new and imporved with all the tools. I Could almost suggest the communication on this be broken down by tool. Even if there is nothing planned to change on a specific tool that can be useful to know. For specific tools knowing in advance what is being worked on, short-, mid-, or long-term. Knowing in advance can help us plan when help guides need to be updated, when features are added or functionality changes mean the tool can be used for different learning or assessment tasks, we can warn students of a change to their view when that change comes into effect during the time they are using the tool. What do you like best about FeedbackFruits Tool Suite?

I like the interactive document the most as I am able to post questions on the document. Students will then be able to participate in discussion by contributing their thoughts on the document (judgment / case study / report etc). In the past, students tend to google their answers without actually read the article. Hence with the use of interactive document, I can actually get the students to read the article and share their personal thoughts based on what they have read and not copy paste the answer from the Internet. What do you dislike about FeedbackFruits Tool Suite?

It would be amazing if the design of the interactive page can be more colourful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is FeedbackFruits Tool Suite solving and how is that benefiting you?

I am able to get students to engage in an interactive discussion albeit on a document. With the use of FeedbackFruits, students are able to monitor their own learning progress as well as start a new discussion amongst the students. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about FeedbackFruits Tool Suite?

All of the tools are easy to set up, adapt and implement. I have used the Group Member evaluation for a group assignment for a cohort of 500 students and, Interactive Document and Peer Review for a small cohort of 30. Despite the difference in cohort size, the student experience was the same. Once the students familiarised themselves with how the tools worked, the student found the tools easy to use and completed the activities in engaging ways. They were able to give peer feedback in a very supported environment within this tool. The self-evaluation embedded in the Group Member Evaluations also gave great insights into how the students viewed their contribution to their group project and whether it matched the evaluation given by their group members. What do you dislike about FeedbackFruits Tool Suite?

Link between LMS and FeedbackFruits sometimes lagged.

The results download was not well organised; however that has now been updated.

Easy to forget to add the Instructions section as the add sections is at the bottom of the page. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering FeedbackFruits Tool Suite:

Introduce your cohort to the tool first in a formative setting so that they can explore it without the pressure of having marks attributed to it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is FeedbackFruits Tool Suite solving and how is that benefiting you?

In terms of my experience as an academic, the suite of tools save me time and workload. Particularly the Group Member Evaluation which previously was conducted with paper forms and had to be entered manually, and then crosschecked by myself. Now as the tool is linked with our LMS Blackboard the groups updated dynamically, saving confusion and there is no need to cross check that everyone has completed the evaluation for all group members. It also provided students with more time to complete their evaluation so they weren't rushed or required to do it in front of their group members, which can result in peer pressure affecting their evaluation. Positively, the tool suite also saves our School money and makes the exercise much more sustainable as we don't have to print paper forms anymore. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about FeedbackFruits Tool Suite?

I am delighted with the breadth of tools available with the Feedback FruitsTool Suite. The individual applications are smart, intuitive, quirky, fun and eminently valuable for engaging students. I have used the self and peer feedback tool which incorporates reflection. Student feedback on the process was better than I could have anticipated. Students enjoyed giving and receiving feedback and told me they 'loved' the quirky fruit names the tool gives them so their responses are anonymous. I am seeking ways to employ different tools provided by Feedback Fruits in different learning strategies and assessment tasks to increase the fun of engaging with the content. My aim is to engage the hard to engage students to create vibrant learning communities within which all students feel valued and included and want to join in the fun of learning and development in my courses. Feedback Fruits provides a powerful means of doing just that. If you haven't seen their range of tools, I encourage all educators and schools to explore what's on offer. You will be delighted just like I am. Enjoy the discovery! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about FeedbackFruits Tool Suite?

My biggest issue is lack of time to fully explore each modality. What I've found is that the developers are really helpful in supporting us educators to make the most of the tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering FeedbackFruits Tool Suite:

Educators who want to increase students engagement in their learning would be well advised to explore the tools offered by Feedback Fruits. This remarkable group of innovators have a firm grip on what makes engaged pedagogy and how students learn best. Their tools are awesome. Every university would do well to offer these tools to their academics to enliven their courses and create exciting, enriched learning communities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is FeedbackFruits Tool Suite solving and how is that benefiting you?

My PhD has been focused on teaching and assessing teamwork skills through groupwork assignments. I had developed a rubric, the TeamUP rubric with five teamwork domains, each with a number of fine-grained behavioural descriptors. The rubric is used as both a teaching framework and assessment tool. The process of self and peer feedback was somewhat cumbersome and time consuming for students to undertake and for educators to quantify marks. Feedback Fruits self and peer assessment tool took all those problems away. I was able to set up the process and the tool did the rest. The tool enabled a fun, easy to provide way of noting each students' contribution using the behavioural descriptors and domains and provide valuable feedback for each student. The algorithms of Feedback Fruits automatically allocated marks to each response, saving a huge amount of time for me as the assessor. The feedback was immediately available to each student who was then able to write a reflection on their response to the feedback. I was so excited to see how easy and effective the tool made the process. Not one student complained about the process and many told me how much they enjoyed it. What do you like best about FeedbackFruits Tool Suite?

I use FbF in during my courses in the 'Medicine' curriculum.

I let students first upload an assessment in groups, and let them individually review each other's assessments. It proves to be an excellent tool for:

- Examining what they find difficult, and whether their reviews are in line with my thoughts

- I can respond better in the response-lecture afterwards, since FbF provide me with meta-data on the group. I can 'zoom-in' on this data, and provide better feedback to the students based on this meta-data.

- Reducing the workload for me as a teacher, since all the uploaded assessments are automatically distributed (anonymously) to other students for the reviewing part.

- You can easily use last-year's assessment and use it again for next year's course (or even another course)

- Most importantly: by letting the students review their colleague's answer, they do not only learn to apply their knowledge, but also evaluate the answer's of others, and thereby FbF raises the bar/level in which they learn about the specific topic. Students themselves also responded that it improved their knowledge, and also evaluated this assessment as a valuable and efficient way to learn about the topic and prepare for the examination

Nice to know: since I introduced this assessment (this year for the 2nd time), the average grade of the final examination has increased with 1-1.5 full points (on a 1-10 scale), which is huge, concerning the fact that this is a small assessment in a complete 6+ week course. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about FeedbackFruits Tool Suite?

In the beginning, implementing FbF seems to increase the workload, since you need to invest on a new digital tool/platform, and need to setup the assessment, make sure all settings are ok, and provide good feedback-options (e.g. rubrics). This 'investment' however, may seem a bit of a barrier, but I am glad I took the time to dive into this and have this assessment now ready for upcoming years. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering FeedbackFruits Tool Suite:

Simply try it. Start with a simple test (or pilot) for yourself, and you will learn while you are trying to set up a simple assessment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Now I can respond better in the response-lecture afterwards, since FbF provide me with meta-data on the group. Besides, it reduced the workload for me as a teacher, since all the uploaded assessments are automatically distributed (anonymously) to other students for the reviewing part. Most importantly, it let students learn and prepare in an active manner about the topic, rather than having them listening to oral lectures. It let them be involved in the education itself. What do you like best about FeedbackFruits Tool Suite?

As an internal advisor, I like that I can initiate colleagues to the tool help them on their way and then point them to the help desk function should they have questions.

Also, in the 1,5 year that I know the tool, it has kept on developing, which I like.

As a teacher, I like the multitude of options in the tool, that correspond to a variety of didactical applications. There is a learning curve, but not too long and the look and feel is very consistent throughout the options. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about FeedbackFruits Tool Suite?

As of yet, it is geared towards individual assignments. It's a pity that students and teachers can't visualise and aggregate the feedback and learning that takes place across assignments. This would enable us to capture a student's development. There are very few systems that can do this in a meaningful way. They don't have the quality of feedback that Feedbackfruits delivers. I hope you'll go for that market. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is FeedbackFruits Tool Suite solving and how is that benefiting you?

Time consuming handling and storing of documents for feedback purposes is replaced by an intuitive workflow, insights at class level reporting means no more keeping track in excel files, possibility for anonymous peer feedback when students are reluctant to share work (although I seldom use it),

Also, it helps our shift towards feedback dialogue and support of feedback literacy amongst students: how are they taking up the feedback they get in the next version or the next assignment? That's why reporting across assignments would be great.

Time consuming language and APA corrections because I'm cooperating on the automatic feedback module. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about FeedbackFruits Tool Suite?

I love the innovation FeedbackFruits provides to the EdTech industry. The team is super passionate about education and their tools are easy to use for teachers. For example, the Interactive Video is set up in a matter of minutes, but it sparks conversation between students and helps to actively listen to the video. They have also brought Peer Review to the next level and they just keep on innovating. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about FeedbackFruits Tool Suite?

The tools are only available in English for the moment, but that will change once enough universities and colleges make requests for other languages. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is FeedbackFruits Tool Suite solving and how is that benefiting you?

FeedbackFruits' use does not only limit itself to the education industry. Even inside Microsoft, I found it valuable to make an interactive presentation or make interactive documents. It provides welcome focus in these times of constant streams of information and by making it interactive, we know that our colleagues actually viewed it and took the content to heart. I can only imagine what it can do for student engagement. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
