WAF easy to use and integrates with our logging and integration with terraform. **What do you dislike about Fastly Content Delivery?** When we first started with Fastly the SSL certificates were shared and expensive. They have recently moved to a new system that is much easier and cheaper. **Recommendations to others considering Fastly Content Delivery:** I've used Akamai in the past and found it expensive as well as overly complicated for the things I needed to do. Fastly is the opposite. Additionally I like that everything is in varnish and I can look at the raw config when I need to. We did the free evaluation as a proof of concept and it worked out well. Pricing has been evolving for a bit and I think it's more flexible now. I also like that they've moved away from the shared SSL certificates to LetsEncrypt and it gets updated automatically. **What problems is Fastly Content Delivery solving and how is that benefiting you?** Initially it was just performance. But being able to send to multiple backends helped us. Later we started using Fastly WAF and have much better insight into attacks. ### 9. It's fast to serve content, fast to purge content or deploy updates (both measured in seconds worldwide), fast to get an answer from support and from account managers. Fastly also scales very well. With real-time logging and metrics, you can get the information you need immediately to get business intelligence and respond to incidents appropriately. During the COVID-19 announcements, we saw a 240x (no typos) increase in legitimate users. We were able to quickly scale our origin infrastructure to fulfill orders while Fastly's CDN handled the load without missing a beat. Competitor sites were unusable during that surge, but with Fastly, we were the only game in town giving customers the information they needed and helping them book the travel they needed to get back to their homes and families. They're not resting on their laurels either, with new integrations into the platform and edge computing allowing for new possibilities. One favorite is their Fastly fiddle project allowing for quick testing or prototyping. We've been using Fastly for many years and have been given opportunity to trial other CDNs and Fastly keeps coming out on top. It's a critical part of our infrastructure and helps us scale cost-effectively. And their support team is top-notch, providing detailed, technical answers to our questions. **What do you dislike about Fastly Content Delivery?** While Fastly's invested in excellent documentation and wizards, to unlock most of the power of the platform, you need to become familiar with Fastly's fork of VCL. This will require some ramp up. When deploying VCL, the VCL diff view could use cosmetic enhancements like line numbers and make it easier to see changes. **What problems is Fastly Content Delivery solving and how is that benefiting you?** With Fastly's instant purge capability, we're able to use caching on objects that have very short life times, or unpredictable life times. We're able to cache our product catalog very aggressively and react to price changes through invalidation. With soft purge, we can continue serving from cache and background refresh the object from the origin. We've used this pattern in many areas to offload much of our origin traffic to Fastly, yielding overall lower infrastructure costs. With VCL, we've also been able to build out sophisticated geo-targeted load balancing across multiple origins, giving our customers high availability. And Fastly's massive servers are deployed in the markets that matter to us and network peered with the cloud providers we use providing impressively small serving latencies. ### 10. Also it's been super easy to get in there and make some quick VCL adjustments as our needs for A/B testing and the launch of a new site evolve. **What do you dislike about Fastly Content Delivery?** I really don't have a whole lot to say here. It's been great. I think it would be cool if there was a way to compare VCL configurations between different services, like we have separate dev, stage, and prod configurations. It would also be nice if the custom VCL snippets could be deployed from one service to another like a pipeline workflow instead of copy/pasting VCL snippets to each service manually. That may be possible through Fastly's API and I just haven't seen the light yet. **What problems is Fastly Content Delivery solving and how is that benefiting you?** We're A/B testing traffic between our old site and our new site in a phased roll out, where certain functionality is not yet ready for production traffic on the new site so we send specific requests to the old site always.
