I feel confident in acting as administrator on my cases and organizing documents because it is very user friendly. **What do you dislike about Everlaw?** I have noticed that Everlaw doesn't always seem to know the dates of emails. This makes it hard to sort by date or sender. I understand that sometimes they aren't in native format but it seems like it should be smart enough to pull that info from the text. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ediscovery is tough to get everyone involved in but because Everlaw is easy to use I can more easily expand my team. **Official Response from Niall Keane:** > Thank you for calling this out. We understand how critical date and sender accuracy are when working with email. In most cases Everlaw reads email dates and senders directly from the underlying metadata. When that information is missing or unreliable (for example, with non-native or imaged data), the platform will still populate a Primary Date field using the best available date signal because this is a smart field. That Primary Date is designed to give you a consistent, sortable date across your dataset, even when individual source fields are incomplete. If you’re seeing specific projects where dates are missing, we would recommend utilising the primary date field to pull in this critical date information. ### 2. Everlaw can be as simple or as complex as you would like it to be. The ease of being able to customize each database to be specific to each case is great. The user interface is very easy to understand and the ability to create carefully crafted and complex searches of documents is great as well. Being able to customize a user's access is very helpful, whether that be only to documents that have been produced, documents that are Attorney's Eyes Only, privileged documents or any other scenario that may appear. You can also access Everlaw from anywhere, even on your mobile phone. Their customer support is extremely helpful, and they are open to any and all suggestions for implementing added features that they may not currently offer. **What do you dislike about Everlaw?** At the moment, the only downside I see if the inability to share exports with other users. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have benefited from using Everlaw's Early Case Assessment, as well as being able to ingest data for a quick review and removing any data that is not relevant, which in turn brings our costs down. **Official Response from Miguel Allende:** > Thank you for sharing your review with us. Everlaw avoids the need to either upload externally or to ship data across the globe to have it ingested into a 3rd party vendor. What once wouldve taken hours even days (trying to simply OCR) takes mere seconds allowing us to focus on more detailed orainted tasks. Overall Everlaw has been a lifesaver. **What do you dislike about Everlaw?** The main downside is that with too many options sometimes you can loose yourself. but as long as you attend trainings and ask questions when lost, the everlaw people are super helpful and willing to walk you through anything. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** It has cut a significant amount of time in deposition prep and reviewing documents/locating docs/people. The ability to OCR documents immdetialty and have such specific searches allows us to better locate the stuff needed not only for depositions but also briefs. ### 10. Some of my suggested changes/revisions for the program are already in the works (others had the same idea before me) **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** Not really a problem, but they are changing the feature of binder sharing so that it automatically shared with all the admins/reviewers of the project - this is super helpful for those times that I forget to share the binder and the attorney needs access to it. ### 12. So, if you want an ediscovery vendor who will provide a dedicated project manager to run the searches and track all activity on the project, Everlaw is not the best choice for you. But Everlaw's user interface and feature are easy to learn and use, so in many cases, you won't need a dedicated project manager. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** Everlaw benefitted us by providing a solid, cost-efficient ediscovery platform for document review, analysis, and production. ### 15. They offer multiple training opportunities for the different levels of your administration that are specific to the task you need assistance with. Ie: Document Review, Story Builder, Case Setup for Admins, etc. On top of the extensive scheduled training, there are also detailed training links that you can use to trouble shoot on your own. If those options are not ideal, customer service is very responsive and helpful and can solve any issue you may be having in a matter of minutes. The ease of training makes our document heavy cases a breeze to organize and work our cases towards trial. Overall we have used many platforms and this is the only platform that all levels of our administration have had little to no issues with. **What do you dislike about Everlaw?** I would love if you could lock in the home screen. Like if you click on a document set, it doesn't automatically rearange so that is now on the top on the main screen. I would also like to be able to pick and choose pages in document productions. We get large files we upload and review but sometimes only need to produce 2-3 pages. **Recommendations to others considering Everlaw:** It's a great platform that does exactly what it says it will do without the constant headache of similar platforms. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** We work with multiple other firms on large class action and mdl matters. The ease of coding and adding notes has made the normal chaos of multiple firms reviewing documents much more streamlined. It also has a feature that turns PDFs into text, making it possible to search documents for key words. **What do you dislike about Everlaw?** While the software identifies duplicates, including near-duplicats, sometimes it leaves out documents that are actually duplicates from the batch. The search text function is also a little finnicky and you have to convert to text and manually scroll through the entire document while hitting enter on your search term to make sure it does not miss that word somewhere in the document. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** It allows large groups of people to work in a single document production while ensuring that no one is duplicating someone else's work. **Official Response from Miguel Allende:** > Thank you for taking the time to share your review! Whereas you'd need to pay a premium to access these tools in other platforms, they can be used freely in Everlaw. • Unlimited free user licences - unlike other platforms, there is no requirement to pay for additional user licences; these are all included in the cost of the product itself. • An excellent document drafting feature named 'Storybuilder' which allows users to collaboratively draft a document (e.g. a witness statement) simultaneously. • Very comprehensive redaction tools to support a wide variety of use cases, e.g.: native spreadsheet redaction; native redaction of video / audio files; mass-redaction (and easy undoing of mass-redactions); inverse redactions; single-page / whole-document redactions. • Extremely responsive customer support: Everlaw Customer Success Team have never not picked up the phone when I've felt the need to call them. They operate in the US and UK, so they're highly available. • Very user-friendly: lawyers, counsel and witnesses who have never used e-discovery platforms before are able to get to grips with the platform with incredible ease. • Great free training: if you're more tech-inclined, Everlaw offers weekly online training sessions for a variety of topics. If you're unable to attend the sessions, you can refer to their online, frelly available Knowledge Base, a compendium of useful information. • Frequent feature releases: Everlaw release new features on a monthly basis. They're very responsive to user requests. On a few occasions we've had desired features that weren't immediately available on the platform, but the Everlaw engineering team built these features incredibly quickly following our requests. • Excellent data visualisation tools that summarise large amounts of data in a digestible manner **What do you dislike about Everlaw?** Nothing in particular. Everlaw has proven very popular in my organisation, and I'm very glad that we use this particular piece of eDiscovery software rather than other offerings on the market. **Recommendations to others considering Everlaw:** Always feel free to use the online, free Everlaw Knowledge Base whenever you want to learn more about the platform. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** Everlaw automates a huge amount of manual, complex legal work. For example: • Prior to using the platform, we were occasionally required to manually deduplicate documents. Everlaw's intellegent deduplication tool reduces the human error potential and saves heaps of time. • Much of our trial bundling workflows have been automated with Everlaw's CSV export tool, which enables users to export a spreadshet index containing various metadata fields for a set of documents. • Prior to using the platform, there was no eas way to thread emails. Everlaw's automatic email threading has resolved the problem by which we were having to review recurring emails from the same thread. ### 32. The automatic conversion to PDF of almost any file type is amazing - we use it to combine documents into a single PDF extremely efficiently. We also use it to redact documents. The automatic transcription of audio clips and automatic OCRing is outstanding. I love the way Everlaw tracks which users have touched each document and the changes they've made. It's a very collaborative tool. UPDATE - We are still using it two years later, just as happy with it! **What do you dislike about Everlaw?** There are a few small things that I would love to see changed. First, if the file is over 1000 pages it isn't searchable and has to be split up, which can be annoying. Second, there is no extract feature the way there is in Adobe - you cannot just delete a single page out of a file or extract it to create a new file. Third, I'd love the ability to quickly scroll through the claim files with thumbnails. Other than that, Everlaw is perfect! UPDATE - Everlaw now allows all files up to 2500 pages to be searchable, which has saved my team a huge amount of time. **Recommendations to others considering Everlaw:** Try it! You will not regret it. They are an outstanding company that offers an outstanding product. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** We used to combine large numbers of files in Adobe, which took forever if they were excels, word docs, etc. With Everlaw, I can upload a zip file containing hundreds of documents, all different file types, and then export them all as one single PDF. It's amazing! The customer support is also great, from thorough training on the front end to continued support as we use the platform and learn more of its features. We switched to Everlaw from another platform and overall are pleased with the change. It's user-friendly and intuitive enough that all of our attorneys have been able to easily conduct document review and use the StoryBuilder tool for depositions. As the paralegal and admin, I find it easy to upload documents, make productions, and add users. When I've run into roadblocks, I've reached out to support and have been very satisfied with the help I've received. **What do you dislike about Everlaw?** The only downside I've found so far is that transferring databases from our previous platform has been confusing and problematic. I wish we had been able to affordably keep our older cases in the previous platform for the lives of those cases, as bates numbers and other work product transferring over has been confusing for the attorneys, in particular because of bates number descrepencies. Everlaw at this point is very easy to use in our cases that started out in Everlaw. I'm not a full-time document reviewer and was new to this task, so Everlaw has been almost my first document review platform used. I have not uploaded documents for review but rather review documents produced to us by another party over the platform. One feature I appreciate but need to further improve my skills is the duplicate document detector. This is a great feature. **What do you dislike about Everlaw?** On the subject of duplicate document feature is an emphasis of how important this is to sort through and associate several files which are e-mail chains. What I experience is hundreds of files, essentially the same, but within a chain may be distinct by only the most recent e-mail. As best I understand, the duplicate file detector does not treat developing chains as duplicates but rather only the exact same file of a certain chain length. It would help to have a feature relating files that are essentially the same chain simply with further e-mails added in chronological order. **What problems is Everlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?** The challenge here is a very complex array of documents in a complex litigation and complex subject matter. Many produced documents are in native form, frequently attached to highly technical e-mails with lengthy attachments of technical substance. We neeed to be able to detect duplicates (both e-mails and attachments) down to the detail, especially of e-mail chains or versions of technical documents, because it takes a very long time to read reports to verify overlap with already-reviewed documents. Any tool that assists with analysis of percentage relationship would be a great asset. Everlaw's duplicate document finder feature is helpful to this end. **Official Response from Miguel Allende:** > Thank you for taking the time to leave Everlaw a review. While our native upload deduplication tool does respect family values, our search deduplication tool does not. Meaning, when uploading natives and globally deduplicating, we do not remove a duplicate from the upload unless the entire family is a duplicate. But, in search deduplication, the system removes any duplicates based on that individual document alone, and not their entire family. But, it sounds like you might be referring to a tool that would allow you to remove emails that exist in other threads- this is called removing non-inclusive emails through search grouping. Removing non-inclusive emails means the search results only include emails that are not duplicates within the email thread, and are inclusive; attachments are included if their parent email is included. This feature is available in all projects, and it may help save your team time!
