## Epic Reviews
  ### 1. If you spend the money on it it could be great

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 28, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

The full integration of clinical, clerical, and billing. Before we were using two different softwares.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

The fact that our company scrimped on the cost so we got a bare bones software.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problem we have is that there’s a team of people who change around our insurance plans and mess up and leave out vital plans that we use on a majority of patients because this team does not actually USE the system in every day work flow.

  ### 2. Great interface, but it could use more work

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Before EPIC, access to medical charts required a fair amount of physical labor. For example, every time a patient visited the office or hospital, their file had to be physically pulled from a storage space, transported, delivered (batch processing), stamped and sorted all in one visit. As a result of this back and forth, there was a greater chance of human error and charts would sometimes be missing information or be chronologically out of order. In my experience, it was not unusual for five out of 15 charts for a clinic day to be unavailable at any given time, which ultimately resulted in wasted time, space, motion and frequent defects to care.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

The cost associated with EPIC is often a deterrent. Not only must the provider pay for the physical hardware and/or software, the organization must also put forth a considerable dollar amount for setup, maintenance, training, IT support and system updates. For many smaller practices with lower cash flow, cost alone prohibits the ability to properly implement and maintain the system.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

EPIC allows physicians to place lab and imaging orders, prescriptions and other notices electronically, reducing the error of hand-written orders and allowing the patient's other physicians within the EHR network access to the order. That means, if a patient is prescribed a drug from his/her cardiologist and they are on the same EHR, the primary care physician will have access to the prescribing information. This not only reduces time, but also dramatically reduces errors — such as duplicate prescriptions or drug interactions — and potential harm to the patient.

  ### 3. Electronic Medical Record

Medical records are connected across the healthcare system in one place.

  ### 4. Easy charting, nice layout

  ### 15. The Mercedes of EHR’s

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I’ve worked in many facilities that use Epic. I like it’s functionality and how intuitive it is to use.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

To add or change the epic product purchase by your institution, it sometimes feels like it takes an act of congress to get an update or change put through.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I love the care everywhere feature to look up outside records from other medical systems.

  ### 16. Easy Navigation Throughout

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2019

  ### 18. Epic best software to use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 02, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I like how easy to use it is to deliver medical records. Also it has many different features for all parties in the patient chart to work coherently.Very simple application, but it gets the job done.Once you learn the ins and outs of this software the opportunities are endless. Dot phrases can significantly cut down on documentation time. Easy to use after some training!

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Some functions can be difficult to find and training on this system can be a bit tedious but we'll worth it, once you learn it.Customer support/service is not very receptive to user friendly changes that are requested when it comes to simple tasks that could be made easier by the input of a button or checkbox in certain areas.Downtime for service is can also be problematic if it needs to be performed during work hours which has happened a few times.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

I WISH IT WAS MORE USER FRIENDLY. BE PATIENT ONCE YOU FIGURE OUT THE PROGRAM IT IS A PHENOMENAL TOOL FOR ANY PRACTICE. YOU SHOULD GO THROUGH ALL TRAINING AREAS TO UNDERSTAND THE AREAS OF THE PROGRAM . ONCE YOU USE EPIC YOU WILL NEVER WANT ANOTHER PROGRAM AGAIN BESIDES EPIC.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reduces medical errors. Easy access to patient information. Viewing test results for patients. The scheduling and charting features were superior to other healthcare software.

  ### 19. Overall easy to use, but too many unnecessary upgrades.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Easy to navigate through a patient's chart.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Certain fields that are required will not let you close a page until they are filled in--this is a problem when an entry on a previous page needs to be updated quickly, as you have to type in 9's or "unknown" for everything on the page you're on before you can close it.

Also, I find Epic is updated unnecessarily and that the upgrades often make it more difficult to use.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Take some time to become familiar with it--watch the provided videos!

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes it easy to access all of a patient's information in one chart.

  ### 20. Epic software

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 23, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

This was the first software I ever had when I first started working at the hospital! It is very easy to navigate. Learning how to use it can take literally one session!

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Sometime the software will lag. For example, there are times when I try to select multiple patients at once and that will cause the software to freeze.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The work flow of patients is easily managed through this software! You are able to quickly look through a patients chart, check allergies, see if there is a duplicate for an exam.

  ### 21. I complete all medical documentation for emergency physicians

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I like many clickable options when completing a chart for a patient, rather than having to type everhthing

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

I wish the ROS and Physical Exam were more defined and had more options.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Epic makes the transition of patient care seamless between different providers

  ### 22. Nothing is perfect but epic does have some great features

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 31, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I’ve used it at two different hospitals and it’s varied significantly. I love the “assessment unchanged” option or “assessment unchanged except below” to avoid repetitive charting ! Also love the volume calculator.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Some of the assessment choices are so rare yet they don’t include some more frequent options

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Scanning lab samples is great and it tells you which and how many tubes to send

  ### 23. Favorite charting system

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 08, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Easy, user friendly. Epic is constantly updating to make charting and communicating with providers a simpler, more enjoyable experience.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

I dislike the scanning system used through epic and Duke outlook email.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Extremely user friendly. My favorite out of all EMR.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Many patients visit multiple hospitals in the area. Epic makes charting and sharing medical records between hospitals and providers simpler.

  ### 24. My EPIC Review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 19, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Epic is easy to maneuver through and I like how you can do the same thing a couple different way.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Too many clicks. I also don't like when changes are made without notification or input from those who are in the field.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have asked a few times for forms to be easily available.

  ### 25. BEST EMR OUT THERE!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 30, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

EPIC EHR IS EXTREMELY USER FRIENDLY AND EASY TO LEARN

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

THERE IS NOTHING I DISLIKE ABOUT EPIC. I HAVE USED SEVERAL DIFFERENT EHR'S THROUGHOUT MY CAREER AND EPIC HAS CONSISTENLY REMAINED AT THE TOP OF MY LIST.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

THE "CARE EVERYWHERE" FEATURE THAT EPIC HAD ADDED YEARS AGO HAS BEEN EXTREMELY HELPFUL IN OBTAINING MEDICAL RECORDS FROM OTHER FACILITIES

  ### 26. User friendly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 02, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Epic is very user friendly and easy to learn. Being able to input information fast without having to stop and save values makes this a great system in the hospital setting

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Sometimes the notifications of new labs results or new orders is easily missed, so if notifications of changes in patient status were made larger or more noticeable this would be helpful.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Epic has made data entry much more efficient than other systems I have tried.

  ### 27. Epic is probably the best EMR out now

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

The interface, it is well known, easy transfer of records

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

It is expensive and changes can sometimes be frequent

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Patient care is improved by increasing efficiency.

  ### 28. Epic Healthcare

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 27, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Very easy to navigate and customize for personalization. Upgrades are usually scheduled at night to minimize user interruptions.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Can be glitchy and lagging at times unfortunately.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have recently worked with IT to resolve our view of PRN meds on the the MAR for sepsis data abstraction.

  ### 29. Epic works of your set up knows how to work

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 05, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Epic was advertised as the end game to all medical records system worked great once we were finally understood almost a year into being on the program.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Epic is very picky about how you do things and what you can and cannot leave blank.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Benefits of being able to use one system for multiple uses unlike before

  ### 30. Epic is very busy with too many screens and difficult to navigate sometimes

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Epic is helpful by having information in one place and not having to look for several paper charts to find information

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

The downsides to using Epic is that some of the information needed for reporting is not available on the Rover and there are too many tabs making the charting too busy.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have finally gotten rid of paper charting and it is very beneficial to have Epic

  ### 31. Epic EMR

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Easy to find patients. Smart phrases are great and save a lot of time.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Too complicated to write notes. The encounters system is terrible. You should be able to just write notes on a patient without having to worry about an “encounter”. Also you shouldn’t have to log out to change your department. I have to do this when switching from the wards to clinic.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smart phrases enhance productivity by saving loads of time.

  ### 32. Psychiatric RN

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2019

The epic software is extremely easy to navigate and works fast.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

I have been satisfied with my epic experience and cannot think of anything at this time.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The quick speed, easy layout, and easy to navigate software significantly improves my patient care.

  ### 33. Easy to use!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 23, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

If you have used the program excel before, this program is like that except even easier to use for charting and patient care. It allows you to customize your account as well.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Not every employee has the same chart or know how to maximize this program. Wish there was a better training!

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing patient workload is so much easier with this sytem.

  ### 34. Epic is the most intuitive

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Epic seems to have everything you need all in an organized way. I like the customizable tabs, integration of other healthcare system reports, and communication across hospitals.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Initially it can seem overwhelming but once you navigate the system enough you find that there is so much helpful stuff in there. Sometimes the different window sizing is annoying. Trying to go through old lab values for research was also a pain because it would keep refreshing and lose your spot.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I need it every day to see my patients. I have come to rely on it.

  ### 35. EPIC is epic

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

The user interface becomes better and better with every upgrade. The most recent upgrade has integrated multiple easy-access features including patient chart review prior to encounter, an add order tab at the bottom of an encounter. There are tons of features that take time to learn but all improve efficiency and communication with patients.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

The chart review can be clunky and difficult to navigate sometimes. The program often freezes and is unable to load properly on my portable computer.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use EPIC primarily as a user from a healthcare provider standpoint. EPIC ability to integrate medication prescirptions, online communication with patients, and readability have made huge strides in efficiency for patient care. All in all, EPIC makes providing healthcare safer.

  ### 36. Epic is great! Been using it for over 10yrs!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 15, 2018

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Easy to navigate. Can addendum notes when needed.

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 09, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

It would be helpful because all hospitals in Synterra use the same system

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

I don’t like when there is downtime and we are unable to chart

I love how user friendly it is. Much of it is self explanatory and doesn’t require too much effort to navigate.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

There are always updates so changes can be frustrating. However, technology always needs to evolve.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

There is a lot to learn but the training you receive is fantastic.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Accessing and storing patient information in a quick and efficient way.

  ### 40. Epic Healthcare

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Epic provides an effective sign on screen

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Epic sometimes can lag, probably due to the amount of simultaneous users.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Make sure to save your work as soon as possible.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problems I am solving with Epic include streamlining health care information that is shared amount the care team. I realized that Epic has benefits in regards to quickly communicating patient information with another care team member.

  ### 41. Epic for an ED RN

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I enjoy the simplicity of Epic. It seems more streamlined and the actual verbiage is more simple and uniform than other computer systems I have used. I personally enjoy ASAP’s side by side view to quickly view results without actually having to go into each patients’s chart

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

I dislike the lack of variety of chief complaint options. I see why there is not a free text option, but at the same time, there are often times I have to use “other” due to not finding an accurate chief complaint option to match the description of the issue. For example, there is an “neck injury” but not a “neck pain”.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I believe Epic is beneficial to streamlining the electronic health record for multiple institutions. Epic is easier to navigate and makes more sense from a nursing perspective. I feel that I am required to chart “less” but that what I chart is more conscience and effective.

  ### 42. Charting v/s

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Everyday I come to work and sign into epic..epic I use everyday to chart a patient's v/s,I also assist in taking a patient for a walk and have to chart it in epic

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

What I dislike is when the epic system crashes.the system goes down and then you and all your c see

 working on charting weights

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

How found out you document an EKG on there

  ### 43. Easy, efficient, effective!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 26, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

The most helpful tool about Epic is its ability to be user friendly and option to be customizable to each individual. You’re able to open multiple tabs at once.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

The least helpful quality is the various features - it gets confusing trying to figure out how to find what you are looking for in the system.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Epic has impacted my work by allowing me easy, reliable, and quick access to patients profile to dispense medications and answer questions on a quick and effective manner.

  ### 44. Epic is a wonderful charting tool; however many downtimes are required in order to update system.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I like that in order to chart on an individual, keys and mouse can be used due to user preference. Quick codes are also incorporated so that if you hit "s" on patient activity, a "sitting" or "standing" option becomes apparent and you can click between the two. Though it is a big adjustment from other charting systems, once you get the hang of it, it is faster and more accurate in terms of patient care. Bed management and patients in given unit are also helpful with transferring individuals or processing to go to off-floor scans, tests, and procedures, such as the operating room or MRI.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

I don't like the difference in how Εpic is presented based on role in the medical field. A nurse's screen will look different from a patient tech's screen, in which this causes a lot of double charting. Charting can occur on the hour with a standard deviation of one hour; therefore, fulfillments can occur over a three hour period, but Epic does not automatically update with time, causing multiple double charting incidents if multiple people are caring for the same patient.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Really learn the system before attempting to trial and error on a real patient. Use the fake medical charts to expand knowledge on what to do if in emergency or just general charting before shifts.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Better charting system and faster communication between providing team and nursing staff. Transport, provider notes, nursing inquiries, and pharmacy calls are all routed through Epic instead of multiple programs outside of just charting.

Quick responses back to patients via messages

  ### 46. Robust EHR for Large Healthcare Systems

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2018

**What do you like best about Epic?**

The best part about about EPIC, is that it is one of the most widely utilized systems in hospitals which allows other providers to access and view PHi and other demographic information when applicable making it easy for facilities and providers to collaborate to provide the best possible healthcare to patients. I love how thorough the system is, it has the capability to handle almost any data you can throw at it and organize it in an functional place for frequent or historical use. When I have had to contact customer support for instructions on how to either resolve and issue or identify how to complete an action they have always been absolutely wonderful and extremely helpful. The EHR and image management system is excellent and allows for the efficient transfer and sharing of relative PHI between providers and other employees involved in the healthcare setting such as backend AR Management. Another fantastic feature that other PMS do not offer is the integration of more than one entity within the system at the same system, for example in other systems if you want to switch between the PROFESSIONAL Practice to the FACILITY/HOPD Practice you have to change that entity or group selection and in EPIC it has the ability to access and work in multiple groups at the same time while keeping them separate which is a fantastic feature when working through revenue cycle and medical billing management.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

For me, what sets Epic apart from other practice management systems is how robust and in-depth Epic is compared to other systems such as NextGen, eClinical Works, or even HST. Most of the systems listed are for outpatient surgical facilities while Epic was designed primarily for HOPD. With that said, EPIC has so many different tools/settings and ways to run reports etc. compared to other systems that can be very overwhelming at first, which is why it’s important to have lengthy and detailed training when learning how to operate the system. It isn’t like the more simple systems where you can just jump into and learn your way around...EPIC is too large for that, which makes training difficult and time consuming. Also reporting can be glitchy and difficult sometimes especially if you do not have the right permissions then it can be a lengthy process going through Administration/IT of your company to obtain proper access, which again can be frustrating. It can very be difficult to locate certain functions and tools, even after training, because some of the features are hidden so deep within the menus that it can be hard to locate them. EPIC can be extremely difficult to transition into a new practice management system and just as difficult if not more so when leaving an old system and starting new in EPIC; data mapping being one of the most difficult parts of the transition.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have multiple clients who utilize EPIC as their main systems and while it is geared more towards hospitals than outpatient surgical center we have been able to utilize it to help increase our clients revenue 15-20% consistently over and over again and with the use of EPIC’s amazing patient portal we have been able to better handle patient billing and management than ever before, especially compared to other ASC practice management systems. Our coders also love the template and chart alerts that help notify and prevent providers from leaving incomplete work before moving on, which in turn helps reduce delays in billing and revenue on the backend.
