## Epic Reviews
  ### 1. Good interface

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brenna F. | Room Service Associate: Food and Nutrition, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I liked using Epic because of the customizable options that allow different medical professionals to filter information based on what they need to see and make it the default for every time they log in. It also allows for color differentiation which adds an extra safeguard to ensuring the individual is charting in their own account.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Not much to dislike, maybe some adjustment period as you learn the system, but once familiar, it is relatively user-friendly.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tracking patient nutrition patterns, intake and output of liquids, communicating with nurses and dietitians about patients.

  ### 2. Intuitive interface

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 20, 2020

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Intuitive interfaces both for end users and analyst

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

It can be tricky to balance customized content with Epic released - moving away from foundation system usually means missing out on enhancements for that feature.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Providing an EMR that promotes efficiency and patient safety. Part of a community of prestigious health systems who can inspire one another.

  ### 3. Ease of use!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 02, 2018

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I'm a nurse coming from Cerner (which I thought was great). Upon getting hired at my new job, I learned they used epic for charting. This program is so easy to use and customize to your liking! Love the copy and paste feature! Saved so much time!!!

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Sometimes it is hard to navigate between units on the program. There are a ton of features that can clutter your workspace. I wish I could split screen certain menu items. It would make my charting go faster and me diving into the chart much quicker when I need to cross reference multiple things at once.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ease of use. Very used friendly. Can be customized to satisfy the user.

  ### 4. Revolutionizing hospital operations.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bradley S. | Certified Pharmacy Technician II, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2018

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Modern icons, helpful support, user friendly. In comparison to other softwares that appear significantly outdated, Epic does an excellent job at providing the options necessary for a consistently running, well operating hospital.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

While there is a lot of positives, there are no negatives I can elaborate on.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Although supposedly pricier, this software is a great for those who work in a hospital setting.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I work in an inpatient pharmacy, at a hospital exceeding 400 patients. The software is a necessity to communicate with other staff members, and to access patients information securely and effectively.

  ### 5. Using epic everyday

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 23, 2020

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Once you get used to the screens Epic is quite easy to use. fast complete charting with very little free text needed.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Orders are a bit cumbersome in that there are alot of lines to complete and you cant always find exactly what you need

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

After learning curve it really is the most customizable system

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quick and complete EMR

  ### 6. Epic EHR System

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2020

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Able to to utilize this to input data for different patients.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Sometimes we would have script issues that affected patient care. We would have down time.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Printing , health information issues, differ tabs having multiple issues.

  ### 7. Great EHR!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2020

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Ease of use, flexibility to adapt to needs.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Costs associated initially but this is true with any start up.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

It is a great EHR!

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We can easily access patients receiving care from other doctors outside of our network to save time accessing results without having to call and request.

  ### 8. Takes some getting used to.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vanessa M. | Laboratory Supervisor, Medical Practice, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I like that we are able to integrate the laboratory and clinic orders. I work in the laboratory, we can easily see tests ordered by our clinic physicians. It's easy to fix erroneous orders, and we can easily communicate within the LIS.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

There is a lot to this software. We do not fully utilize the system, and I think even our IT department is not fully aware of all of the functionality. This sometimes makes it difficult to accomplish what we need. It is also difficult to get issues with the LIS fixed, as we have to wait for Epic to update the entire LIS before fixing and our updates come out at scheduled times.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

I would recommend sending one or two people to all trainings offered by Epic. Get familiar with the product and it's functionality.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Epic for our LIS so we use it for everything associated with the lab. We enter orders, we write medical reports, we track our specimens, everything within this system.

  ### 9. A bit cumbersome but improving

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 27, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

The biggest benefit of Epic is that the program can be tailored, to an extent, to what your organization needs to make it work the best for you.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

It seems to take a long time for modifications to the program that are specific to your needs, weeks in many cases.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has made access to programs and charts much easier across the continuum of care, such an excellent thing!

  ### 10. EPIC is a great software, but has a steep learning curve

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kaley D. | Medical Student, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

The search bar tool is very helpful for navigating through the charts when information is difficult to find. Instead of having to read through every note (which would take forever), I try different permutations on the search bar until I locate what I need. I particularly like the Results Review tab. It is easy on the eye to scan through the different lab values and identify what is normal and abnormal. It's also nice that all sorts of information are together in one tab. I can do lots of objective lab value analysis in a short period of time as a consequence of this.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

I don't like the interface. It feels very outdated and clunky. Also, there is a lot of redundancy. There are many different ways to find the same information. The number of clicks to get to any given data point needs to be decreased.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Give yourself plenty of time to learn how Epic works before using it. Otherwise you'll get lost quickly and miss a lot of key things.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I conduct clinical research with EPIC, chiefly performing standardized chart abstractions. The organized nature of the program helps streamline the process.

  ### 11. Epic

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2020

**What do you like best about Epic?**

As a medical assistant, the Care Gaps are super helpful to me. I like that the program tells me what the patients are due for, so I can discuss it with them before they see the provider. I also like how information is shared across offices that utilize Epic. It makes it easier if the patient is seen elsewhere that utilizes Epic.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Honestly, there isn't much I don't like about Epic.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The Care Gaps are helpful with problem solving. As long as the patient's Epic chart is up-to-date, I don't have to do a lot of digging to figure out if they're due for certain tests or immunizations.

  ### 12. takes some serious getting used to!

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 21, 2020

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Shortcuts are useful.
Pt communication ports are very accessible one consent is provided

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Nothing is as one might expect. Highly idiosyncratic.
As a therapist in a hospital setting I find that the integration of behavioral health is awful

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My hospital was involved with EPIC in teh very early days when transfer from paper records in hospital settings was "a thing".
Obviously the improvements from that era are innumerable.
We are currently working on streamlining teh process of creating drop down menus and other more individual changes, which has become easier over time.

  ### 13. Epic review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

It is easy to use. It allows everything to be there at the touch of a button. There are basically folders on the side of the screen that guide you.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Too many steps while closing out xrays, constant updates.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have medical records all in one place. We can send

  ### 14. It is an invaluable asset to mu company!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brook C. | Supervisor of Materials/Bone and Tissue Coordination at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Epic?**

The interface and search features are what I like best.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

There is really not much I dislike, but it can be a bit sluggish.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Looking up patients and implants.

  ### 15. The worst EHR software in the world, except for all the others

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Epic?**

The UI has actually had thought put into it.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

It often has 20 solutions to 1 problem, which makes it difficult to determine exactly how to go about doing something.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is central to my workflow

  ### 16. Best program for pharmacy operations currently available

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 02, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

My favorite features include the easy verification process and access to the EHR all in one space. I also like how customizable Epic is to fit the user.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

One of the hardest things about Epic is learning how to use it in the beginning. I think there's a pretty strep learning curve. I also always feel like I could review meds and patients more efficiently/effectively but it is contingent on what our team has built into Epic as well as my ability to discover and learn to use the different features

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Epic makes quick work of pharmacy order verification with helpful alerts and all the info you need (mostly) displayed all at once. Epic also allows me to track ongoing problems with patients and leave messages for my colleagues. Recently we've had an added messenger feature which helps improve communication with other providers

  ### 17. Epic's intuitiveness makes it one of the best.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Epic is a top to bottom solution for any healthcare organization, Hospital or Clinic, it allows for deep customization and optimizations for efficient work and good patient experience.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

There is a lot going on at once on the software's screen, the depth of the software shows with every clickable button available to the end users. It can be daunting to face this system for the first time and learning to navigate efficiently is a bigger learning curve than it should be for end users.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Patient Care and Patient Experience are two big things being worked on and solved with the Epic software. The benefits show in a multitude of ways, reporting shows increases in organizational efficiency and it also shows a better service of care throughout the time of its implementation.

  ### 18. Epic makes it easier to chart and access patient information at work

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Epic has a lot of features that make my job easier on a day-to-day basis. Coming from having to chart everything on paper to the ease of using Epic has made a world of difference. I did not have any influence on the setup of Epic for my particular company, but I like the options available to me when I chart. There are so many options for things I can chart on, broken down so that all I have to do a lot of the time is click a button to add an entry, but I can also type out my own words for more unique situations. The program also notes things that are frequently added to a patient's chart and then suggests them, so if nothing is changed I can just click a button instead of searching for the same entry over and over again.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Sometimes it feels less personal than being able to write things out, as if I am not getting the whole story down, and there is more valuable information that I could communicate, but nowhere for me to add it.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes it easier for me to do my job and document about it. It puts all patient information in the same place and makes it easier to find. I can use Epic to find out what I need to know about a patient.

  ### 19. Great integrative healthcare/lab management tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Full integration across all of our offices!

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

User interface could definitely use some work

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Appreciate their constant updates and reception to user feedback

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tracking of clinical and anatomical samples within our healthcare institution and our partner institutions

  ### 20. Happy with Epic!

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Epic is very accommodating to unit specific areas and makes it easy to chart! I like that epic is the same throughout all of the sentara hospitals. This makes it easy for us to communicate with other hospitals if the patient was transferred from another sentara facility.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Sometimes there are areas that mean or state the same thing and you have to chart the same thing multiple times

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Recommendations for epic would be that there would be easier to locate and find things on epic. There are so many different locations and ways to customize your your task bar. If they were all universal, it would be easier to teach and learn.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They recently added the "nurse brain" and find this very helpful. I have realized that there are difficulties when epic is having downtime. sometimes there are errors when you try to go back to chart something about a patient that happened during the scheduled downtime. If there was another way that you could chart and it would automatically populate after the system came back up it would be very helpful.

  ### 21. Excellent Program!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Krysten M. B. | Cardiac Monitor Technician, Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

EPIC is awesome! Everything is very well organized and easy to find. The program itself is quite easy to learn to use and there are so many shortcuts and capabilities that make my job easier!

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Honestly, I can't think of anything. It's an excellent program that I would gladly recommend to anyone in healthcare.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

EPIC allows us to keep our patient's medical records in one convenient place. We can easily place orders and request transport and equipment. Data is organized well and easy to find.

  ### 22. SLP using Epic in large hospital

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I like that epic has organized large amounts of information relatively well. I also like that they are fairly responsive to building new items we need. I also like that their updates keep the bones of the system and the general organization layout, this makes it easier to adapt.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

We recently updated and the notes from various providers have been scrunched on a side bar. It was easier for me the view them when they took up the top half of the screen and I could search the names of who wrote the note and their profession.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

I would recommend using this rather than smaller software companies. Epic has the ability to take features build for other hospitals and healthcare practices and easily allow you to utilize them. This way, you do not have to reinvent the wheel and come up with new ways to track data or write notes.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are solving issues of accessing large amounts of information in a timely manner and being able to filet through information that is not relative to my practice.

  ### 23. Epic is a great asset to the healthcare industry.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jennifer K. | Tech II, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I really like the badge sign in feature. It helps when you need to get into charts quickly. The tab personalization makes everything easy to find.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

So far I have no dislikes after using EPIC for over 3 years. It just keeps getting better with each new update.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to customize my screen for my own needs. This saves time so I am able to get to more patients on my shift.

  ### 24. Powerful but has limits for non hospitals

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Practice | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2020

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Easy to read charts and see what procedures took place

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Not intuitive for the billing office. Can be difficult to navigate payments and such.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Practice practice practice!

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Very easy to compare charts to charges. Makes being a coder simpler.

  ### 25. EMR with powerful tools for patient care

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

EPIC is an EMR that is widely used and has great support. It has many customizable tools, which is the best feature. Monitoring patients labs, vitals, and imaging tests is easy to do with the many features the platform offers. Easy to access off campus and on mobile devices. Good communication tools between all healthcare professionals on a patient's care team.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

It is somewhat difficult to make your own templates without the help of EPIC programmers.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

For large health systems that have multiple clinic sites, EPIC is a very useful to see records from other providers from the different sites. Would definitely recommend this platform as it is one of the most advanced EMR's with easy to use and customizable features.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Patient care both inpatient and outpatient. Records at outside hospitals are easily retrievable and viewable if they also use EPIC.

  ### 26. Working with Epic has been made everything convenient.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 02, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Epic is an amazing program because it allows to create a shortcut which saves time in the workplace and allows for better patient interaction. It is clear where all the items are, such as in putting orders and diagnoses and epic is really good at reminding if important information is missing.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

I don’t like the epic does not have a proper separate label to input diagnoses in that five clicks need to be made in order to approach that. This was not always the case, there has recently been an update and it has been making inputting data a little inconvenient

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

It just takes a little practice and training to understand and excel at the program.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I don’t like the epic does not have a proper separate label to input diagnoses in that five clicks need to be made in order to approach that. This was not always the case, there has recently been an update and it has been making inputting data a little inconvenient.

  ### 27. User Friendly, Multitasking System

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

There's access to all aspects of a patient's medical record, reports, appointments and communication between hospitals with the push of a button.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

The print function isn't always accessible or clear.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Get the proper training, based on your role in the healthcare setting, so that you, as a user, can get the most out of EPIC. It is user friendly and allows someone like me, who schedules patients and accesses reports to perform my job well.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Epic has allowed me to perform my job duties with ease. I'm able to assist patients with information and access to reports and appointments within the hospital even if it doesn't pertain to my specific area.

  ### 28. Family Birthplace Review of Epic

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 11, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I like that Epic is the same throughout all Sentara hospitals, and it is easy to use. I really like the new brain screen that allows me to monitor different patients at all times and to be able to see when each one has a lab or medication due.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

I dislike only being able to have 3 charts open at a time. I know this prevents charting errors but sometimes I am using a baby's record and will need to go into mom's record to verify something about the delivery summary and I am unable to do so because unless I close out an open chart.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to ensure patients are receiving the proper medications and care on time without missing a lab. It also has been easier to get my patient charting done as it has gotten easier to navigate around.

  ### 29. Epic: A Nursing Perspective

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

As an ICU nurse, I appreciate that the monitors we have roll over into epic in order to keep up with the demands and frequent monitoring of the shift, the that flowsheets go in body system order, and the creation of your own dot phrases streamline note documentation. I also like the comment function in the flowsheets to further describe issues

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

It’s frustrating that I have to double document. I spend so long covering a head to toe assessment in the flowsheets to turn around and have to write about it in depth as well - I wish there was a function to pop up all the “exceptions noted” portions that would auto populate in the nursing note - physicians never look at our flowsheets anyway. The MAR can be tricky at times to navigate and the process of ordering meds can be tedious especially in an environment where the patient needs the medication STAT - not me fighting with the computer for two minutes before it’s ordered.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a dedicated epic/excellian staff member that gets feedback every month and works out the kinks. I wish the downtime could be simplified more at our hospital with the view only Epic system.

  ### 30. Epic system

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 11, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Are use epic every day for charting as a nurse and it is absolutely fantastic and is friendly and has so many different options that you can use.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

I don’t always love the updates my work will do because I because so many things that you can do and sometimes I feel like it limits it when they do updates.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

I would spend sometime just explore it the system. I really enjoy all the customization I can do!

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Lots of charting information is so much easier to put into the system and it remembers for the next time and that saves time! Also the newest update makes the headings easier to move around and customize to what I need on a daily basis.

  ### 31. Thorough charting platform

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Priscilla S. | Medical Student, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

easy to navigate between results/notes/different workspaces. easy to find what you are looking for. easy to learn for a medical professional.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

there are too many ways to get to the same information, and the redundancy can cause confusion and concern. would be better if there could be streamlined information (one tab for vitals, etc).

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

can look at multiple different lab values and data points for individual patients, helps to give a diagnosis quickly

  ### 32. Epic, a memoir

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I like that it's very user friendly and pretty easy to use. So far it's been pretty useful for our practice.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Sometimes it can take a lot to do something simple. Something that should take a few clicks can take you through a whole series of screens you really don't need to go through every time you try to do something

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Do it! It can be very frustrating in the beginning to get things started, but once the ball is rolling, then it's almost smooth sailing. Epic will greatly make your practice or hospital run a lot smoother. You just have to get through all the kinks to see it.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We've had a much easier time scheduling patients and receiving records from other practices. The biggest problem was having to request records, which this has solved.

  ### 33. Epic registration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 26, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

What I like are the check boxes on the side that allow one to verify that specific actions have been done with the patients check in process. The legend shown for each representation of color is also nice to remind us where patients are in the process to help gauge time for those in the waiting room.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

I am new to the program- but everything does seem scattered. There is a next button which helps navigate. If possible it would be great for less options. Dieing to others in registration, it seems they only use a couple of the handful. Maybe it would help if each screen were different according to position and office responsibilities.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing time for patients is always nice with the color legend that is shown. Showing also the beds they are used, unused, and overall status of availability also helps.

  ### 34. A visually appealing, modern way to manage healthcare records

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

As a nurse I love the “brain” feature. It is a great way to see an overview of the tasks I need to complete for each patient. It is so helpful when scheduling procedures and tests for patients because I can see exactly when in the day would least interrupt their care. It is also so helpful in that it reminds me of things like reassessments and labs, and many other things that could otherwise easily get forgotten during a busy 12 hour shift.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

There are certain small issues but overall it’s a great product. For example, sometimes the required documentation for a patient can be difficult to satisfy, an example of this would be for the “travel screening” at my facility. It is a requirement that we ask each patient if they have travelled internationally within 30 days, and if we select “no” and click submit, the travel screening still appears as “overdue” on the patient’s admission documentation. It was only after much trial and error that I realized that I still, even though the patient had not travelled internationally, had to select “none” for symptoms they are experiencing after recent travel. The system should just automatically waive that question about symptoms if the patient did not travel in the first place. There are quite a few little issues like this that make warning messages and popups for overdue documentation all too common. I worry all these extra warnings and reminders could cause some people to get in the habit of dismissing warning and reminder messages altogether, which could eventually cause them to overlook something truly critical. I think these things will improve over the years as Epic takes more feedback from facilities and hopefully the healthcare providers and staff who are their end users. It is an ever-improving product.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have realized that Epic solves countless problems throughout the day. If I’m unsure what a medication is for, for example, Epic includes a link to Lexicomp resources for each medication my patient is on. It even scans for medication interactions with every other medication the patient is taking. If I want to be able to update a family member, every note from every specialist that saw the patient is right at my fingertips in chronological order. Epic has a nice flow and also has many safety features for things like procedures and medication ordering/administration that help us to enhance patient safety.

  ### 35. Epic is extremely user friendly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Anyone can learn Epic in just a few days really. This application is extremely user friendly and there are many ways to do everything that's needed. Very effective and efficient.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Only downside I can really think of is there is downtime on some days making work more difficult.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Don't be overwhelmed at all. Epic is user friendly and always has support teams to help.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Epic has made my workflow very simple and efficient. I have worked with other applications and none have even come close to the user friendliness of Epic. The bigger benefit is that any one task can be done multiple different ways allowing each user to customize what works with their workflow.

  ### 36. Epic is a great charting system

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 19, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I like the new update with the baby avatar. I like how things can be customized for each facility and unit. It is very helpful when charting. Things are easy to find and it is user friendly.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

One of the downsides of using epic is the learning curve when coming from somewhere else. It took a while to figure out where to find everything.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are solving problems of wound pictures. I love that you are able to attach a wound picture to a note so everyone can be on the same page with how they look. Some benefits are the customization available.

  ### 37. User friendly

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alyssa E. | Medical Scribe Trainer, Medical Practice, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I love the layout epic uses. It is very easy to find what you are looking for in the patient chart. This system is very user friendly and easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Aside from the MAR there are other ways to look up patient meds that I feel is almost unnecessary because the MAR is the most informative and has the most simple layout.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy to chart patient information. I have also used Cerner and Epic is a lot more user friendly when it comes to charting.

  ### 38. Updates generally make things more complicated, workspace flow can make it difficult to work quickly

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I like that EPIC is used widely, which makes it easier to incorporate patients' information from other partner facilities.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

Updates generally make workflow spaces more difficult to find and access, and the workflow will not let you quickly close tabs in an emergency without first inputting some information into various sections (even if the information being requested has not yet been obtained). For example, a patient's address is required before closing the Demographics section of a patient's chart, but in some cases it is not possible to immediately obtain this information in an Emergency Department setting (patient may not be conscious, may not have ID, etc. etc.). Then, random values must be input in order to close the Demographics form in case a new patient comes in and must be registered immediately.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Stop making unnecessary updates that are supposed to look better but don't improve functionality. EPIC is used by health professionals to provide healthcare, it does not need to look glamorous.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it for patient registration in an Emergency Department. I am a current user, but cannot update a screenshot due to my organization's privacy policies and HIPPA policies, so I have selected "not a current user."

  ### 39. Great to keep patient notes and info organized

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anjali C. | Clinical Researcher, Research, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I like that I can easily search for patients, see their entire medical history organized in sections by presenting complaint, past medical history, social history, review of systems, diagnosis and treatment plan as well as dates seen in the clinic. As a clinical research requiring lots of patient data, it was easy for me to search for each patient and quickly and find the specific information I needed!

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

One thing that I dislike about epic is that I was never able to open more than one patient window at once. When doing a large scale clinical research project which required viewing medical history for many patients at once to record data, this made it time consuming to switch back and forth for each patient!

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Software is great, very easy to manage patient information!

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was a clinical researcher, studying the impact of behavioral intervention on decreasing readmission rates in psychiatric patients with underlying chronic medical conditions - using the epic software in recording patient data made it very easy to

  ### 40. An EHR that actually makes sense

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

EPIC is far superior to any other EHR software I have encountered. Whereas others seem to always feel outdated and clunky, EPIC streamlines helpful tools in an intuitive way. I love the flow sheets and regularly rely on the resuc navigator during codes. Most importantly, it’s easy to learn and constantly releasing new updates based on user feedback. Having used EPIC, I never want to use another software again.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

My only complaint with EPIC is the new login pathway, which requires several links. It adds significant time to each login, whereas previously it was as simple as tap and go.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

EPIC allows for real time documenting during life and death situations. The flow sheets prevent errors and allow easy access to tools that help improve workflow productivity and prevent potentially dangerous medical errors. I like that the software alerts me to any documentation falling outside expected parameters.

  ### 41. Overall it has everything you need

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bhavin P. | Resident Physician, Hospital & Health Care, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 28, 2019

  ### 42. Good tech support, gets the job done

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I like that I can generally chart in Doc Flowsheets using the keyboard only, as opposed to having to click through each option. And it’s generally user friendly. I also love being able to go to Chart Review to look at old notes from previous encounters.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

I dislike having to go to different screens for so much. And I don’t enjoy when I see unnecessary typos on the options that I have to click. I object to that, actually. We also have a lot of IT issues with checking people in. And sometimes registration can only check an outpatient in as “inpatient” if they are already in the department, even though the patient is outpatient.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

It's a great program, and is customizable for specific needs.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been able to chart patient information, and therefore be able to solve patient health issues by being able to scroll through old information easily.

  ### 43. Epic

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Epic is most helpful for charting and medication administration. It allows me to help verify I have the correct patient and medication. The charting is organized and easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

I dislike how difficult it is to find certain things in epic. Also I have noticed the way my epic is set up is not always consistent with other people and i’m not able to change mine to look like my coworkers.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

I would recommend epic for healthcare businesses. It’s a great way to double check to prevent errors. It also makes me more efficient.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Double checking medication. Reduced errors. Also helps me spend less time charting because it’s set up in a very organized way.

  ### 44. Epic at the hospital

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Samantha K. | Pharmacy Technician, Retail, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

It holds all the patients info in one spot. It’s compact and complete that way. If you go to another hospital it’s all there. It works with the MyChart app. It works across all departments. Every patients profile is just all complete in one spot.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

It not as efficient as I think it could be. For you to look at a certain persons info you have to type their number in. Then if you want to look at someone else’s real quick then you have to open a whole other tab.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s keeping all the information in one profile. This helps doctors, pharmacists and nurses all stay on the same page.

  ### 45. New to EPIC

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ashley S. | School Nurse, Hospital & Health Care, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

The pros of using EPIC is having all outside records in one system. I am used to using Cerner all of my life. Getting used to EPIC is a bit of a challenge. I have been using EPIC for 1 month now and still trying to figure things out

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

In Basket
Refilling medications
Associating orders to dx

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

I recommend taking a training course, or at least use the ambulatory tip sheet if you are ever lost!

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Recording patients

  ### 46. Easy to use electronic medical record!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dominique B. | Dominique Bohorquez , Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 27, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I personally like how easy to use the software is. As a medical student, taking care of patients, learning the ropes of a hospital, and keeping all your tabs while still managing to learn everything about your patients is super hard! Epic made searching for patients, managing orders, writing notes, and finding labs and imaging studies so easy to do. Epic uses NoteWriter which not only allows us to use templates but also draw out where specific symptoms and physical exam findings are on the patient. This is definitely a plus for more visual learners. I love how customizable it is and made getting organized and prepared every morning before rounds a much more manageable experience!

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

I personally do not dislike anything about this software

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

I would very much recommend this electronic medical record. It is very easy to use, intuitive, and customizable. It makes jobs of all members of the patient care team easier to manage

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using this interface as an electronic medical record system. It makes communicating between providers, hospitals, and even house staff within the hospital so easy to do. It makes the documentation aspect of our job much easier to manage, so we can focus more on patient care !

  ### 47. Easy to navigate and excellent coordination access.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 09, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

It's very intuitive and clear. I love coordinating care with other offices and organizations that use Epic in Care Everywhere.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

I wish there were more areas to free text in the flowsheets.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Give yourself time to adjust, and you will quickly realize how organized and helpful this program is!

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy to schedule appointments and clear visuals of multiple providers' schedules at one time. Did not take long to learn shortcuts and smartphrases.

  ### 48. Emergency room technician

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

I appreciate the ease of using epic and how well it organizes information

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

The system can be hard to personalize and organize

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

Definitely a good tool for anyone wanting to organize a large company

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Patient organization, transferring information from one platform to the other. It keeps information sensitive and allows for easy transferring of information

  ### 49. Easy to navigate, very thorough

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

What I enjoy best about epic is that it’s very simple to look up something for your patient. Communicating with other healthcare professionals is also very easy.

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

There isn’t much I can about what I dislike of Epic. I find it really easy to navigate and if I have an issue I can just contact the support desk.

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

To organize their home page the way they’d like so that it’s easier for them to navigate.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Epic allows me to confidentiality access my patient’s information such as lab values, tests, providers progress notes or other RN’s progress notes, diet orders, medication orders, impertinent findings, allergies, and so much more. I’ve realized that it’s all in your reach right in front of you.

  ### 50. RN

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Melissa L. | RN, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 11, 2019

**What do you like best about Epic?**

Able to move from screen to screen easy. Information is shared from screen to another. Able to change the screen per pt's needs

**What do you dislike about Epic?**

In the pain screen you have drop in the original information in the assessment column. Other wise it does not open all options up in the pain screen in flow sheet

**Recommendations to others considering Epic:**

That it transfers information from OBIX to epic.

**What problems is Epic solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Able to get to pt's MAR easily.
