New User Feedback **Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Tom G. | Systems and Compliance Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2025 **What do you like best about ELMO Software?** We're very new to ELMO still so I'm only commenting on our initial (admin) user experience A highlight has been the Client engagement from our ELMO rep, and the platform's provisions of user support for admin users - Our first usage of ELMO was a bit up and down ; there were a LOT of training slides that were very repetitive, and didn't really suit our learning styles so we were concerned for how things would play out, but their AI support agent is bloody brilliant! - and their user forums seem to have a high level of activity going on from a helpful group of people. Elmo have done a good job with incorporating this framework into their software offering (and even encouraging usage through a rewards platform $$!!! - but seriously, this is such a good idea!! nothing encourages new admin users to get involved more than some game play and physical $$ rewards for being part of it) I like the raw aspects of ELMO that others may not - the Course Builder in particular looks archaic, and lacks the flashy interfaces of modern graphics or web design software, but by keeping the source code open makes it very easy to change this through HTML/CSS - which these days is a piece of cake thanks to ChatGPT - simply upload the base code and tell it what you want! LOL **What do you dislike about ELMO Software?** We're very new to ELMO still so I'm only commenting on our initial (admin) user experience I found our initial experience somewhat disheartening and we were concerned whether we had made the right decision - but hang in there, because after the initial bumps, things have really gotten better for us! So far, we're very satisfied with ELMO! Our initial online training was VERY long and repetitive - death by powerpoint too! We struggled to keep paying attention because of how drawn out it was. Our initial upload of historic user data was also quite frustrating - the instructions online that show what/how templates need to be filled out were often incorrect or incomplete, which made this process very frustrating - it would be even more so if you're not accustomed to database CSV/pivot tables to decipher what is being requested. We did some face to face (admin) training from a very experienced trainer - perhaps a bit TOO experienced as we found the training hard to keep up with, and more of a demonstration than it was training (he was super nice, polite, and helpful, but the 'training course' didn't really ensure that we were competent etc. as there wasn't much 'doing' during the training session. - again though, hang in there, because it was enough for us to learn the basics, and the ELMO Assist AI support agent is really good at helping out once we were back in our office! **What problems is ELMO Software solving and how is that benefiting you?** Tracking compliance for HR needs - policy receipt/acknowledgement/acceptance, and same for the required compliance training a business needs to conduct - code of conduct training, regulatory requirements, standard operating procedures etc. It's good that all these needs are 'pinned' to user accounts and that we can easily get a visual on what is missing. ### 2. Aside from payroll, which I believe is being worked on, having a system where all of it's components 'talk' to eachother is super helpful. Being able to store all our records in one system, as opposed to having them across many, has been great. The customer success/support team are so fantastic! We've worked with Jo a lot and I can genuinely say that we would not be as 'put together' as we are today without her! **What do you dislike about ELMO Software?** Course Builder & CPD plans. Course builder is very clunky and not an intuitive system to use fopr cerating modules when you compare against competitiors. All of our staff have been able to use it without too much training. It was fairly easy to implement and has integreated well with Xero which is our accounting system. It has replaced all of our paperbased time sheets, leave request and outlook leave calendar, so it is used everyday by the majority of our staff. The customer support has been pretty good. **What do you dislike about ELMO Software?** Some of the reports in the payroll side are quite limited and it would be better if we could customise them. To be fair to Elmo though the payroll product is one that they have a licence for it is not their own product. **What problems is ELMO Software solving and how is that benefiting you?** Lots of paper based forms have now been replaced. The HRIS is integrated into the Payroll System which means that there is accuracy in the data. Staff can update some of thier own record. ELMO is also easy to learn to use, and can help you to onboard new employees with ease. **What do you dislike about ELMO Software?** ELMO software can sometimes be a bit rigid. Some aspects can be improved. It would be nice if you could save individual items like qualifications in ELMO, and set specific dates for when each individual item needs to be renewed, and a notification will be recieved when this is required. it would be nice if you could save employee files in ELMO with categories with ease, so that can be stored and also accessed with ease. The side bar is self-explanatory and gives clear direction as to where to find what you're looking for. The 'my pay RTA'/payroll add on is clear, helpful and easy to use. The 'Recruitment' section is good and easy to use as well. The rating column is helpful, as are the categories you can sort candidates into. **What do you dislike about ELMO Software?** The biggest downfall for me personally with ELMO, is that it can be a little bit clunky when trying to find the 'shared with me' documents. The search bar isn't helpful in most cases, for example if I want to find a HR document relating to a new start called John Smith, typing the name doesn't yield any result, instead I have to search for the manager who completed the HR form and sift through the results. **What problems is ELMO Software solving and how is that benefiting you?** ELMO is good as a one stop shop for all onboarding, offboarding and recruiting. Great implementation manager for CORE. Ability to suggest enhancements that can be considered for future builds. **What do you dislike about ELMO Software?** Some of the recruitment processes are "fixed" and not as tailorable as we like (eg HR team manages all recruitment but cannot turn off recruiting managers being able to move people between stages which can cause confusion). We use the learning modules for compliance training and for recording completion of external mandatory training for staff. We have also set up inductions in the learning. We have used the online forms for our Work from home safety checklist, and survey tools for reviewing the effectiveness of some safety PPE. **What do you dislike about ELMO Software?** I am yet to be an expert in the back end, so not a real downside, but I need to learn how to use it better to get the most out of it.
