I've noticed that at times, it has many tabs that open into one another, which may be confusing. However, there is a location bar at the topic where you can see which tab led to the next. It's not hard to navigate with some practice. The key shortcuts will save you some time navigating the finance forms. **What do you dislike about Elllucian Finance?** Ellucian's focus is primarily on Banner, not Colleague due to the higher paying customers using Banner, so Colleague lags behind a little. They also prioritize the student module and not the finance module. There are not always ways to run a report directly from the finance module and you have to run a report from your reporting system. There are a few forms (could be called sub-forms or drill-downs) that seem unnecessary. You're frequently clicking "save all" or hitting next to get through forms that you may not ever really use. Keyed shortcuts help, but you'll still waste some time just trying to get through a form to the data you need. Certain items have to be down outside the module and you end up paying other vendors for another product/service. **What problems is Elllucian Finance solving and how is that benefiting you?** Everything is tied to Ellucian colleague student, so that's great. It's not too hard to find how items are connected to the student module once you have learned your way around the product. The general ledger forms and accounts payable forms within the module are pretty straightforward and easy to use. ### 6. I use it to enter my leave reports and submit leave. It allows you to view your employee profile information about your job and your pays subs and tax forms. It makes all the items accessible in one place. We also use banner a lot to input our financial information and it keeps our budgets and we use it for creating purchase orders to pay vendors. **What do you dislike about Elllucian Finance?** Ellucian Banner Finance sometimes has bugs when trying to enter purchase requisitions. I always have to delete and reenter account numbers before the totals show up. I have found a workaround for that though. **What problems is Elllucian Finance solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ellucian Banner Finance makes it easy to keep track of our budgets and spending. It records our purchase requisitions and creates purchase orders. It makes it easy to submit invoices to pay contractors by receiving payment on those POs. ### 7. Prior to upgrading to Colleague, there were separate systems for accounting, financial aid, student accounts, registrar, etc. Having everything in one place is a major benefit. **What do you dislike about Elllucian Finance?** The downside of the Finance module is that it does not really cater to accounting. Even something as basic as running financial statements has to be done outside of the system. **What problems is Elllucian Finance solving and how is that benefiting you?** It solves the problem of having multiple separate systems for record-keeping. Everything is linked, and there are real-time updates without having to push information across systems. ### 8. Our old ticket writers were so old that we couldn't get replacements. The new solution we found integrates with the Banner system so that tickets are linked to the appropriate individual. **What do you dislike about Elllucian Finance?** Getting the integration set up was trial-and-error. The help screens allow you to do more than in Banner 8. However, it takes longer to complete simple tasks because the shortcuts available in Banner and did not carry over to Banner 9. Although, I do enjoy using the MyBanner feature and navigating in different screens and coming back to the same screen without loosing or having to save information. **What do you dislike about Elllucian Finance?** I truly miss the shortcuts from Banner 8, which did not carry over to Banner 9; therefore, it takes longer to complete simple tasks. Once you hit enter to save the information the program redirects you to the beginning page and you have to enter into the previous screen; therefore, tasks take longer to complete. I enjoy the fact that this is very speedy process, and that sometimes if I need to go someplace quickly I just type in or chose the section that I want to go to. I like what I can see in it as well. **What do you dislike about Elllucian Finance?** I don't like that sometimes we must type many different letters to make a word that doesn't make sense to us. I do a lot of banner Finance, and not as much student part as every Banner user has a different access for safety purpose which is what I love about it. Overall the program is clean and if you get in to it now as we are in Banner 9 is much easier than Banner 8 was or so is my understanding of that program. ### 15. After you have mastered certain features, it is very easy to input data and have it available for everyone who needs it in the organization. **What do you dislike about Elllucian Finance?** Very difficult software to learn. It is not user friendly or intuitive. If there were step by step tutorials available for the software it would greatly improve the experience. When using it, especially for student data records, there were often little things that would cause errors, and if you did not input the information in the right order it could mess up the whole transaction. The best part of Banner is it is easy to exact data from screens into Excel. **What do you dislike about Elllucian Finance?** I dislike many aspects of Banner. I primarily use Banner Finance in a higher education setting. When entering invoices there are too many screens for 1 entry. I worked with other systems and it process is more streamlined. I also dislike that a check processing feature is not built into the software. Another downside to this software is you also have to use another outside software to get customized reports from Banner. As much as this software cost, it should do more than it does. **Recommendations to others considering Elllucian Finance:** Banner 9 should have been more functional. Users should not have to type in so much information into each field. It is slower to use this version than the previous version. The ability to manipulate and download data is easier, but there are many improvements to be made this version. **What problems is Elllucian Finance solving and how is that benefiting you?** Banner works well in a higher education setting because it does a lot of different functions. We have so much information in this platform from student/employee records to all the bills we pay on a weekly basis. It is not too hard to learn how to run reports, I think that's a big plus. **What do you dislike about Elllucian Finance?** the only thing I can think of is that the new Colleague UI 5 is a bit slower than the older version, I'm used to going at a certain pace and now the program freezes. I just have to remember to go a little bit slower. but the new features with the upgrade make it still worth it to switch. **Recommendations to others considering Elllucian Finance:** give it a try is a nice platform and very customizable and easy to use. Our IT department has done a great job supporting this and their relationship with the support from Colleague has been great as well. **What problems is Elllucian Finance solving and how is that benefiting you?** we can run reports and recently we were able to incorporate it with our new expense management software. We can easily find records and pull very detailed information of our financial transactions. ### 28. Previously all campus areas were on separate systems but Banner was going to allow us to have one database campus wide. **What do you dislike about Elllucian Finance?** This system is not user friendly. It takes longer to do everything because the data isn't linked across screens. Like a name - If you fill in the fields on the Name screen - you still have to enter on at least 2 more screens. **Recommendations to others considering Elllucian Finance:** Make sure your processes are in line with the way Banner processes are. Our university won’t let us update java because of the issues it causes with banner. Not great **Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** August 31, 2016 **What do you like best about Elllucian Finance?** As an end-user, the reports are useful and the speed of reporting is adequate. **What do you dislike about Elllucian Finance?** Although both our financial and payroll systems are running Colleague, the financial reports do not include encumbrances for salaries (!!), making it effectively useless as an end-user. Apparently we need to purchase yet another "module" of the software to link the payroll and financial reporting systems. In other words, a shake-down. **Recommendations to others considering Elllucian Finance:** Don't listen to the salespeople, they don't know what their software is actually capable of doing. Speak to other users before making a decision, and be sure that you understand all of the various "modules" you'll require to meet your expectations. **What problems is Elllucian Finance solving and how is that benefiting you?** Colleague was brought in to replace a mish-mash of home-grown systems. It has been a long and costly transition, but Colleague is certainly more robust than the older systems. ### 33. It would also be nice if Banner used HTML instead of Java interface. **Recommendations to others considering Elllucian Finance:** Banner is a large ERP application that does many things well. However, it does not do any one of those things exceptionally well. There is some details left out for the sake of a wider focused application. **What problems is Elllucian Finance solving and how is that benefiting you?** General Accounting, HR, Student Accounts, Student Records, Registration, Recruitment. Modules are interconnected for seamless workflow and enhanced interdependence. . ### 34.
