eLabNext Pros and Cons

I think it is somewhat convenient to have a seperate program that keeps all of the data recorded for me for classes. I have a chemistry lab I currently use this program for, and it has been pretty easy to use overall. I find it simple, descriptive, and everything I need for the class can be found there. I also enjoy that it immediately saves anything I write to it as I have not lost anything due to connection issues before. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

In particular the programs interface is not pretty; it is really bland and feels like it was made in 2008. There are also a couple of minor functionality features that make the software confusing. My experience with eLabNext has been very positive so far, I recently began using eLabNext with my group mates in a research lab for this semester. Sometimes it's a bit hard to find specific documents. For example, I spent quite a while looking for the IACUC approved chemicals for zebra fish because most of our lab info is on another site and I could only find it on eLab by using keyword rather than a sort or organization function. It is helpful to have one place online to put everything my group works on for my lab class! As a college student, it's easy to get lost in the amount of information we have to process and record, and eLabJournal makes it so much easier to find what I need and organize the experiments I do for my guided research project. One thing I would criticize about the site is that sometimes it is difficult to figure out how to get to the tab I am looking for. And, while I know it is for security, it can be inconvenient having to sign in after every short period of inactivity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The search option never works for samples.

The website frequently has issues for our users and will appear as if it is down or undergoing maintenance when that is not the case for other users at the same time.

File storage sometimes feels messy, especially when every pdf attached to a sample is forced to be uploaded. Adding pdfs the same way it is done in studies would be more convenient for files I don't feel the need to have stored directly in eLabNext. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I have had the most wonderful experience with ELab. The software makes working with your peers quite easy, as all of us have different schedule and times we can be in the lab. It can be complicated for someone who has no experience processing samples and its derivates such as blood, serum, treated serum, etc. However, once the foundations are understood these features are easy to integrate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The customizable nature of the platform was very appealing to us, as we wanted to integrate our inventory and ordering through eLAB. The capability for inventory management and traceability of samples were key criteria in our selection of eLAB over other options. Its full ISO certification allows for complete tracking and auditing of protocols, in addition to offering different levels of access (view only, edit, manager sign-off). This structure enhances the traceability and peer review of records. Full support during the implementation via regular calls with the team helped us to shape the structure that suited to our needs. Going through thousands of samples can be a nightmare without the right organizational tools and ability to browse the existing archive. I can find exactly where everything is and when it was placed there, along with its history of shipment, and make quick adjustments to incorrectly labelled samples. The interface is fairly straight-forward and extensive. The barcode import/automation feature is perfect for my job and dealing with a large volume of samples. It can get tricky with a faulty barcode or when finding samples of a similar type / from the same donor where corrections need to be made. It was also difficult to learn how to use the software initially, but for the most part it's a good user-interface. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
