What do you like best about Echo Labs?

We had over 60 oral history videos plus some YouTube content, and Echo Labs was able to process multiple videos at once, finishing them in just a day or two. The accuracy of the captions was impressive—far better than AI-only solutions. We also appreciated that they allowed us to provide a controlled vocabulary, which ensured that even local or specialized terms were captured correctly. Their user dashboard made the whole process simple, whether we were uploading videos directly or linking to YouTube. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Echo Labs?

There is nothing we disliked. They handled everything seamlessly, even when we uploaded large quantities of videos. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Echo Labs:

Echo Labs is perfect for any organization or archive looking to make their video content more accessible and searchable. Their platform is easy to use, and their ability to handle a large volume of content efficiently made a big difference for us. It’s a great solution for making video content more accessible and easier to search. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Echo Labs solving and how is that benefiting you?

We needed to improve accessibility for our video content, particularly for oral history interviews and YouTube videos, by adding captions and transcripts. Echo Labs stepped in and provided high-quality captions that were essential for making our content accessible to a broader audience, especially the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. On top of that, having transcripts available has made it so much easier for our users to search through the videos and locate specific topics. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Echo Labs?

Ease of user interface, generally quick turn around times, highly accurate captions with speakers, sound effects, music, etc identified, and great customer service. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Echo Labs?

Currently no built in ability to move around captions if there is pertinent visuals on screen that the captions cover, some (very few) videos end up in limbo and are not captioned in a timely manner, and some very minor inconsistencies and inaccuracies in captioning. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Echo Labs solving and how is that benefiting you?

Echo Labs takes away the tedious hours spent capitlizating, punctuating, and self captioning videos that have very inaccurate automatically generated captions. The confusion and time was taken out of identifying speakers, music, sound effects, and Echo Labs was able to caption parts of the videos that would have been difficult otherwise. They also gave the option of downloading the videos with burned in captions or to download the SRT files if any changes need to be made. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Echo Labs?

Their accuracy is amazing. After 100 hours of captiong requests submitted, I've yet to find a single mistake from them. And they are adding new services to it all the time! I made two requests for extra files types for downloading transcripts, and they added it the next week. They love hearing feedback, and can usually ship improvements within the week! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Echo Labs?

Nothing? Maybe that more people dont know about them. The one request I had for them was maybe a few more options for categorizing videos that are submitted for captioning, but they are already working on that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Echo Labs:

Give them a chance! They give you 6 hours of no strings captioning requests. More than enough time to see if they are the right fit for you. They also have a lot of example videos on their site that they use to display their accuracy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Echo Labs solving and how is that benefiting you?

captioning has always been an important, but expensive, subject to consider for higher education. This team has figured out how to solve this problem in scale, with AI, with an intuitive interface, and at a faster rate. We have have submitted about 60+ hours of videos for captioning, and I have yet to find any issues or errors for it (spelling, grammar, punctuation, and time stamps are all excellent). We have a number deaf or hard of hearing users on this campus, and our role is to make sure they can access to their materials in an equal manner as their peers. When a user needs captions, we can very easily take the video (or youtube link), submit it to the site, and have 99% or more accurate captions generated within the day! What do you like best about Echo Labs?

So far, the best thing about Echo Labs has been the customer service. Yasmine, Denise and everyone else with whom I have interacted have been so responsive and helpful! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Echo Labs?

I have been using Echo Labs for about a month, and I have not had any bad or negative experiences. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Echo Labs:

Auto-transcription is as bad or worse than no transcription at all. Videos must be accurate and convey the same meaning for all users. Echo Labs provides accurate closed captioning so students can better understand online lecture material. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Echo Labs solving and how is that benefiting you?

As a public educational institution, we value all students and strive to provide accurate closed captioning for all of our lecture videos. We have tried other closed captioning options, and have found many services do not meet federal or state law requirements. Echo Labs provides the accuracy required by WCAG and ADA. What do you like best about Echo Labs?

I mentioned above how great Echo Labs is for technical content or highly specialized content. The ability to upload vocabulary or terms to help the platform produce the most accurate transcript of your video as possible is one of the best aspects of their service and why it's especially useful for academic or educational content. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Echo Labs?

This isn't a dislike, but a looking forward to: at the moment there is not a way to specify metadata for use in ingesting or harvesting content into library catalogs, aggregators, indexes, etc. The ability to apply a metadata profile and supply content for fields would be beneficial for discovery, and more. I hope that this is something we may see in the future as Echo Labs continues to build out its platform and capabilities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Echo Labs:

Reach out and request a meeting with someone from the company--they're always willing to answer questions, help you understand the process, and get you started! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Echo Labs solving and how is that benefiting you?

I'm pleased to share our positive experience with Echo Labs this summer. We were offered the opportunity to particiate with Echo Labs in their Accessibility First Grant Program, which provided us with 500 hours of transcription services and the unique opportunity to offer feedback aimed at enhancing the platform for current and future users.

As an academic library, we handle a wide range of highly technical content and encounter various accents in our recorded material. Additionally, as our content is often recorded from live events such as presentations and talks, with background noise, audience chatter, and extreme differences in the recording quality. This all poses a significant challenge to our students and staff who work on transcription, even with the AI features available in tools like Adobe Premiere Pro, which still requires manual correction.

But the transcription platform from Echo Labs exceeded our expectations!

The accuracy of the transcriptions was exceptional, with a careful ear toward the complications of techinical jargon, audio quality, and accents. The turnaround time was impressive, which allowed us to direct student and staff attention to other high-priority projects. It wasn't unusual for us to spend multiple hours on a single video--Echo Labs was able to provide us with a transcript (in multiple document formats) and a video with burned-in captions in record time by comparison.

Our feedback regarding the platform was quickly integrated into their updates and pushed live--sometimes within mere hours! The team was highly receptive to any questions, concerns, or suggestions we had about the platform, privacy expectations of content submitted, and more.

The difference between Echo Labs and other platforms providing similar services is their level of accuracy. They recognized that in a post-Covid world, much more academic content than before is being provided as audio-visual material and that there was a gap in services that could handle making material accessible for use in an educational or classroom setting. Their focus on the academic sphere sets them above other transcription services, and has helped us to make our content more accessible and our processes more efficient.

I would highly recommend Echo Labs to anyone looking to have high-quality transcription of audio-visual material that contains technical or highly field-specific content. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Echo Labs?

Their captions were, for the most part, pretty accurate. We submitted videos in a variety of subject areas that use a very technical vocabulary. Only a handful of changes needed to be made after receiving the caption files back.

Their platform's integration with tools like Panopto shows an effort to streamline the captioning process for a variety of organizations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Echo Labs?

Echo Labs offers a captioning service that we found to be highly problematic in its execution. We submitted our videos through an integration with Panopto, expecting a smooth and organized process. However, the service failed to process videos in the order they were submitted, leading to a disorganized return of files. Instead of keeping our videos grouped according to the order we uploaded them, Echo mixed them up, which forced our team to spend significant time manually sorting and organizing them back into their respective classes. This lack of organization on their end created many hours of work for us, undermining the efficiency that we hoped to achieve by outsourcing the captioning in the first place.

The customer service experience with Echo was similarly frustrating. While the team at Echo initially seemed dedicated to resolving our issues, their actions did not align with their promises. Despite our multiple attempts to communicate our concerns and the clear terms of our contract, Echo failed to deliver on their promised 1,000 hours of video. Instead, they offered only 200 hours as a "goodwill gesture," while simultaneously placing the blame on us for their inability to meet their obligations.

Communication with Echo was often contradictory and unproductive. Despite numerous emails and phone calls, the company repeatedly shifted responsibility and attempted to renegotiate the terms after we had already fulfilled our end of the agreement.

Overall, our experience with Echo Labs has been disappointing and counterproductive. Instead of reducing our workload, working with Echo created more challenges and complications for our team. The disorganization in video processing and the failure to honor their commitments resulted in additional work that we had not anticipated. We would not recommend Echo Labs to other institutions looking for reliable and professional captioning services, as their processes and customer service left much to be desired. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Echo Labs:

If you're considering Echo Labs for captioning services, it may be a useful option if you have a very small number of videos to submit. Their integration with platforms like Panopto can simplify the process for a limited volume of content. However, for larger organizations or institutions with significant captioning needs, I would recommend finding another provider. The disorganization in processing and the challenges we faced with meeting commitments indicate that Echo Labs may struggle to handle larger projects effectively. For those with substantial or time-sensitive captioning requirements, seeking a more reliable and experienced provider would likely be a better choice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Echo Labs solving and how is that benefiting you?

Echo Labs aims to solve the problem of making video content accessible by providing captioning and transcription services which can benefit viewers who are Deaf, have hearing loss, or who do not have a quiet place to videw the videos. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Echo Labs?

Echo Labs not only analyzes audio but also images within the video. I Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Echo Labs?

It took over a week to process one video which was 1 hour long. If a project has a short deadline, this tool won't work.

Also Echo Labs transcribes foreign languages are lacking at the moment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Echo Labs:

Test out the system with audio or video clips with poor quality and are hard to transcribe. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Echo Labs solving and how is that benefiting you?

At Colorado State University Archives and Special Collections, we often deal with poor-quality audio and video tapes. We tested several clips on Adobe Premiere Pro, Google Whisper, Konch (paid service), and Echo Labs. Only Echo Labs produced accurate results.

What we like Echo Labs most is that it not only transcribes audio but also analyzes images. For many interviews, speakers' names were not stated verbally but printed on the screen. Other platforms will just identify them as speaker 1, speaker 2. Only Echo Labs be able to include speaker names in the transcripts.

For platforms we tested, only Echo Labs combines content from later sections to provide accurate interpretations. For example, the phrase, "So, my talk, obviously, is 'TET ANSANM.' That's Haitian Creole. Might seem similar to French, some of these phrases..." was accurately transcribed by Echo Labs. Other software returned incorrect interpretations like "So, my talk, obviously, is Tête Ensemble," "So my talk obviously is on some," or "So my talk, obviously, is pét en somme." If we don't go through transcription manually and put them online, it would be very awkward.

The only drawback is its slow processing speed, as it analyzes frame by frame. Despite this, the accuracy and comprehensive analysis make Echo Labs a valuable tool for our needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
