DWSIM is open source with a lot of functionality. I like the drag and drop system which allows a chemical or energy engineers as well as students building their chemical system in a few minutes. It has a rich Graphical User Interface. It allowed me to understand my system by using rigorous thermodynamic models and unit operation models. It has a simple and user friendly interface of defining the thermodynamic models and the properties of the input of the system and the dynamic simulation is quite accurate. i found the option of comparing the result using different built in property package. The output window is easy to understand and it has options of creating the output report. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
New users often forget to define the property package adding it at the right of the window. At the middle of the simulation they find it but there is no undo option or any option of adding the property package. I found id most irritating. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

the best part about dwsim is that it has provided us a software package with differnet machineries that is used in the simulation process of the industries easy to use drag and drop one thing that really give dwsim a upper hand is that low storage requirment and drag and drop system. 1) DWSIM's UI is simple than other Proprietary Simulation Software. Which help learner to focus more on engineering part rather than wasting time in learning software UI.
2) Software Codes are available on Github. If students want to learn the algorithm behind any models, it is available there. You can modify it at your convenience and use it in DWSIM.
3) Developer (Daniel Medeiros and Team) is highly responsive; Whenever I face a problem within a day or two, I get a solution for that problem.
4) Bugs are fixed too fast.
5) Custom model can be built inside python, which is very useful for engineers who have only basic coding knowledge.
6) Missing compounds can be created by using an online database. The same can be done for the interaction parameters.
7) All facilities like optimization, sensitivity study, the thermodynamic diagram can be developed very easily.
8) Advance thermodynamics, Dynamic operators, Neural network operation, cost calculator, are also available and easy to use.

It is very handy to move along different section and select your work.
Like, compound selection, flowsheeting.
