The ease in which you can screen participants, and the diversity of the scouts on the platform, the quality of the scouts and their responses, the quality of the support staff

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

Data analysis can be a little bit tough, especially with multiple videos. Would be great to get AI tooling to summarize videos and help with picking out insights

**What problems is Dscout solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ease of recruitment is huge! Also, the ability to collect high-quality video responses to share with stakeholders is fantastic.

I appreciate how dsout makes it easy to organize the diary study process. Diary studies are known for generating a lot of data and having everything together in one platform simplifies the process, allowing me to focus on the insights rather than the logistics.

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

My company has a limited amount of licenses.

**What problems is Dscout solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dscout allows me to consider running a diary study as it reduces the amount of time I would need to spend organizing all of the aspects of running one. It reduces the amount of time I would need to spend, which means I can focus on other research.

I also enjoy reading the articles ont he dscout site.

A great way to get qualitative insights from a wide variety of respondents from across the country.  The reporting tools are easy to use, and there are options for batch downloads.

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

Would love to be able launch screeners without having to go through dscout.  Need a focus group feature.  Support isn't always the quickest.

**What do you like best about Dscout?**

I like how easy it is to build and field studies. I also like how easy it is to involve stakeholders and collaborators in moderated and unmoderated research.

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

It can be hard to track participants we recruit externally unless we explicitly ask for their emails. I wonder if there's a way dscout could integrate better with email invites so that we know who clicks on and attempts to start a mission.

**What problems is Dscout solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our previous platform had limited capabilities for testing on mobile, but that is where the majority of our business comes from. So dscout is providing a good experience on mobile for our participants.

**What do you like best about Dscout?**

Dscout is easy to use and intuitive. We are able to accomplish a variety of qualitative studies in the tool whether it's a video diary study or in depth interviews, or an express mission our needs are met the majority of the time by what it offers. We also appreciate full service support when we don't have the capacity to do analysis ourselves.

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

The focus group functionality is not as good as other tools - no backroom or chat function. We also deal with some niche audiences and it is difficult to always find what we need in the dscout panel.

Understanding our competitors, understanding consumer wants and needs, getting a quick read or doing a follow up on something we learned in a quant study. We have benefited by having video and quotes that tell a real consumer story and build consumer empathy.

What I find most helpful about dscout is the easy-to-use interface, both from the perspective of the researcher as well as the participiant. The learning curve for researchers programming questions and doing analysis is quite seamless, and the participant experience is quite smooth to navigate.

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

Occasionally, participants' video responses won't upload. The question-types and logic are not as robust as, say, a Quant specific survey platform.

dscout is helping us collect data from a large pool of people and do so in a way that is convenient to them, since it is so user-friendly. This in term makes the quality of feedback feel stronger, since participants are more engaged with the platform.

dscout helps solve the problem of qualitative projects not offering enough sample to satisfy quant-minded people. It is a fast, easy way to collect good qual data on a more quant-level scale.

**What do you like best about Dscout?**

The best part of dscout is its abiity to help our team screen participants. It's so helpful to have a clear view of all your potential participants and be able to rate their fit for studies as we go.

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

It's a complicated platform. Each time our team runs our quarterly study, we end up with questions or problems we need to reach out to customer support on. While the chatbot and the folks helping there are wonderful, it feels cumbersome. It's as if we never really know all the features or exactly what will go wrong. 

Secondarily, the platform is restrictive in terms of how scouts can answer questions. Sometimes, we just want folks to be able to uplaod a photo, video, or their notes on something. However, we have to choose one format and stick with limitations on uplaod size and number of uploads.

dscout helps us run our recurring internal dogfooding program.

I've found the research advisor team to be excellent! They are super responsive, thoughtful, and strategic thought partners. I've really enjoyed working with Belinda and Jessica. They are responsive and push my thinking to make me a better researcher.

The quality of the panelists is also what seperates this platform from other remote usability/research tools.

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

Occasionally It's buggy - especially when I've tried to use dscout live. I also find that there are a lot of chrome-specific issues that result in scout's sending complaints to me.

It is helping me rapidly recruit customer so I can help my design teams do more evaluative and iterative user research (mostly concept feedback).

I am continually impressed by the customer support received from dscout - timely, helpful, and proactive support makes running missions so smooth! I also love how straightfoward creating new missions is and how quickly our team can receive quality customer feedback from a diverse audience!

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

I find the analyzing tool, specifically for missions (as opposed to express missions), to be unintuitive and clunky. I find myself struggling to analyze data across questions, as open ended questions are very disconnected in the drop down menu. I love how express missions gives me access to everything on the same page. 

I also wish I could combine missions so that I can leverage dscout's great data visualizations. It's incredibly cumbersome to download data from multiple missions and manually combine them to create my own data viz in excel.

**What problems is Dscout solving and how is that benefiting you?**

problem: timely access to diverse insights with minimal bandwidth 

dscout helps our team quickly get user feedback in unmoderated studies. Their pool is diverse and relatively large (I've noticed a lot of the same scouts for our studies when they're required to be our users) . The unmoderated fashion and video functinoality adds color to our insights without a large time commitment from our team for data collection. This frees us up to focus more deeply on the analysis!

The ability to find high-quality prospects on a short timeline. The robust screener options allow you to really get a sense of a participant before scheduling. Additionally the, video and photo submission features allow you to easily fact check any study prerequisites.

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

While the offering is appreciated, the screener review prior to launch can sometimes delay a study by 1-2 days.

I often have fairly niche audiences in mind for my studies and dscout helps to find high-quality candidates and quickly assess whether or not I need any supplemental recruiting assistance from any 3rd party partners.

No statistcal ability on results page and limited programming abilities, such as question types (matrix) and skip logic.

Dscout allows you to collect qualitative data without the headache of interviewing participants one-by-one. They have cracked the code on having the ability to get qualitative data in quantitative numbers within days. Not weeks. DAYS!

The study building platform could use a few user interface upgrades, especially when it comes to the express missions.

The major problem that it solves is being able to conduct large-scale qualitative efforts at a rapid pace. In some organizations, people dread working with research teams because of the length it can take a project from start to finish. Dscout helps alleviate that some because the data can come back within hours to days rather than weeks to months.

We are able to refine the audience and define our budget easily while also getting good data and research results.

Getting quality results means we need to ask super-specific questions. I wish the tool guided us to help here, we've learned as we went but it means we've lost some cycles along the way.

The researcher advisors and account managers are responsive, knowledgeable, and have helped me maximize tool usage across the platform. I turn to dscout first when I am considering innovative research or want to source diverse participants.

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

The platform continues to grow and change. I am looking forward to the usability features on mobile! I also hope they continue to expand their global scout presence.

- Access to a broad participant pool that I can't access through other research recruiting measures
- Data collection and storage that is compliant, easy for users, and beautifully organized
- In-app analysis tools
- Audio and Video transcripts that are fairly high quality. I have to do a bit of edits, but on par with most other transcription services I have used.

**What do you like best about Dscout?**

Recruiting general-population users who are articulate and insightful in their responses, and capturing not only survey data but also qualitative inputs from them through videos. It's an invaluable tool alongside others that I use every day.

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

If you're a consultancy—especially a smaller one—it can be complicated to manage, justify, and bill the cost of dscout, given the minimum credits and long-term commitments required.

Moving fast can also be challenging, especially in a non-Central time zone, because every project requires manual review by Chicago-based dscout staff before launching. When product partners need an answer tomorrow, dscout isn't really the best tool.

**What problems is Dscout solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easily recruiting people who don't use my company's service but might use adjacent ones. Getting to that audience in other ways might require longer-lead-time proposal processes with recruiters, but with dscout, I can act in a mostly self-serve fashion to get things going on my own.

Dscout helps simplify the process of setting up and running diary studies, and makes the process of analyzing less daunting. Their panel has been great even for more specialized recruits, and has provided us with data that has turned into foundational insights for our team and org.

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

As with any diary study, you get back a lot of data which can be overwhelming to process if you don't stay on top of it. 

Dscout could also do a better job at being able to access the screener responses from the actual mission so that you can find and use that data more easily to put diary study responses in context.

**What problems is Dscout solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dscout provides us with a platform to conduct mobile diary study with upwards of 25 respondents. This allows us to either follow respondents over time or deep dive and learn about certain respondent types contextually.

**What do you like best about Dscout?**

My team used dscout support hours to get ahead of our research projects. dscout's research consultants were professional in providing advice, scoping research questions with me, clarifying any vague areas, defining terminologies to use, and delivered according to the timeline we agreed on. The mission summary that I received from dscout at the end of the project was incredibly helpful when I developed user research insights for my team. Overall, this was a very smooth process and I would highly recommend dscout, in particular their support hours!

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

At the start, there were a number of research consultants and customer support / research advisors that I liaised with, before figuring out who exactly would be supporting my project and at which phases of the project. This was slightly confusing to me at first, but we clarified it later on.

**What problems is Dscout solving and how is that benefiting you?**

dscout has a good, diverse pool of participants, and this makes recruiting easier and more straightforward on my end. dscout also now has an improved version of Express Missions, so that I can get high quality results more quickly if I am developing a shorter study.

dScout makes it easy to quickly screen quality participants and collect qualatative insights. Their support also differentiates them from competitors. They offer expert research support in scoping, recruiting, interview guides, and reporting. The ability to quickly create and share reels with stakeholders has upped our  trust and engagement with stakeholders.

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

For specialized segments you may need to work with them to recruit outside their panel or bring in your own users. However, they're continuously working on growing their participant pool to meet the needs of researchers.

I like that it allows you to recruit on your own or through the panel and then setup activities which include video and photo capabilities. Super convenient to complete via smartphone. Also has IDI capabilities.

I wish there was more practical support on the app. There is a learning curve.

It allows us to connect with respondents at their fingertips wherever they are. They can do entries in real time at home or in a store. We can get video and photo components in addition to text responses.

Great community of panel participants. Everyone is always articulate, creative, and engaged. Additionally, we can get research studies recruited, launched and fielded quickly on the platform, giving us the insight needed to work at the fast speeds clients have come to expect. The dscout project support staff is also super helpful!

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

The annual subscription price is a bit steep but if you can get over that initial cost hurdle it's definitely worth the money.

**What problems is Dscout solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The traditional research recruiting process takes a lot of time and costs a lot of money. You're also not guaranteed that the participants you recruit will be awesome but dscout has found a way to bridge that unknown barrier by building a community of SCOUTS that are smart, articulate and engaged.

Dscout makes it so easy to find respondents and vet them for particular studies. It's seamless and helps my team get a diverse set of candidates that answer our research questions.

No complaints outside of the fact that incentives take a bit of time to process

We often have quick research questions that we want answers to from a qualified group of vetted individuals, which dscout provides. They also make it easy to do long-term studies over a period of time without having to manage a portal or incentives ourselves.

I love that dscout enables me to do research efficiently and with a really high quality panel. Responses are always thoughtful and enthusiastic. I also sincerely appreciate the wonderful service team that always provides thoughtful suggestions and help in launching my missions.

The only thing I would suggest is to have more flexible pricing for people working as independent contractors -- more bite-size, project based options.

**What do you like best about Dscout?**

Dscout enables a variety of research approaches and has a diverse panel of participants. The products are easy to use and thoughtfully support the research process. Even though we are not a huge customer for them, the support and account team is very engaged and responsive. They answer our emails promptly, have come to speak at our team meetings, and invited us to participate in beta testing new products.

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

- There are some persistent issues around the Dscout not accepting unmoderated videos that are too long from participants. It seems to happen quite frequently, I hear the participant complaining that this is the Nth time they've had to re-record the session because Dscout's software wouldn't accept their video. This problem hurts the validity of the research (because the participant has to re-do the video multiple times) and the fact that this issue hasn't been addressed after a couple of years feels disrespectful to the participants.
- Last year someone Dscout pressured us to spend more money on the platform, which felt out of touch with the current macroeconomic climate and the fact that their customers may be struggling to find profitability. This was an isolated event from one person, not something we have experienced consistently.

One platform to enable many forms of research: Shorter surveys, unmoderated and moderated interviews and usability, diary studies.

Easy to use
Easy to recruit via panel
Easy to analyze data by flipping through lots of qual + images quickly, tagging, highlighting, etc.
It encourages me to use diary methods that often yield great insights.
Using dscout generates AWESOME data -- compelling in-moment videos and responses that you can use to create great deliverables.
The team is amazing!

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

Formatting of quantitative data could be better -- it takes a lot of data cleaning steps before the dataset looks like it needs to for deep quant analysis. Ideally we'd have one row per respondent, with each data point from each moment/part in a column (i.e., a very wide dataset). This would allow for analysis that accounts for person-to-person variability while also looking for patterns across moments.

For crosstabs (simple descriptive analysis with no significance testing), it's fine!

I miss the dscout studio :-(

**What problems is Dscout solving and how is that benefiting you?**

dscout is a platform that allows me to do high-quality, rigorous research very easily and quickly. It also allows me to easily create compelling presentations that put users' own words, actions, and emotions at the forefront, get stakeholders' attention, and generate empathy. It really gives me superpowers as a UXR.

I only use dscout sporadically these days because it's not well-suited to my current research needs (testing early-stage hardware). But I used to be a power user. :-)

**What do you like best about Dscout?**

dscout has a phenomenal panel. Whenever we field a screener, we get quality responses quickly, and the scouts we get sign up for research with the same speed. The platform itself is intuitive and helps us make sense of qualitative work, which anyone in the industry knows can get unwieldy. The research advisors are top notch as well, helping us devise best approaches and ways to best utilize the platform. I am overall very satisfied and recommend the platform, particularly for diary studies and quick interviews.

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

My qualms with dscout are all nitpicks: it's difficult to see notes from different sessions in one spot and you cannot edit a mission once it's launched (even tiny copy tweaks).

dscout allows us quick recruitment so we can field our research and get back to our stakeholders sooner. They also make it easy to run longitudinal diary studies.

I love that using dscout allows me to quickly capture thoughtful responses from high-quality participants. Also, the platform is highly user-friendly, especially compared to other research platforms I've used.

**What do you dislike about Dscout?**

Dscout is a great platform overall, but I have some specific feedback on the tagging tool. I'd like to be able to tag photos, apply tags to entire entries rather than tying them to specific responses, tag probes in comments with the respondent on any given entry (as they often yield more data), and filter by screener tags within missions. 
Again, the platform is fantastic, but these small tweaks would make it even better for the way I use it.

The best thing about dscout is how simple they make the user research process. From recruiting, analysing, synthesising, and reporting out research, I think dscout is a must-have for all ux researchers and especially teams of one.

I think dscout could benefit greatly from usability testing their own website. There have been many times when it has been hard to find a specific button or has taken too many clicks when it could be significantly streamlined. Given that it is such a robust platform, I can understand how this can be a challenge. But the main issue I've encountered using dscout is onboarding others onto the platform and having to explain or showcase various workarounds to get a desired location.

(1) How quick & easy it is to set up Express Missions and then use to pinpoint best participants for subsequent Diary and Live Missions
(2) That we can use the same group to fill all three of those!
(3) Wonderful support team who always has great suggestions and quick turnaround times

Note-taking capabilities in Live MIssions - could be easier for our stakeholders to enter notes as they observe; so far none of mine were able to add any that were helpful.  I'd love a way to set up coding or topics in advance for them to use--would reduce analysis time by a lot

The dscout platform offers a complete service, from diary studies to online interviews. Both offer a great user experience. It's easy to navigate and even if you  encounter any sort of issue, help desk  helps you through it.

When booking one-on-one interviews, participants are asked to do a tech check,, and the interview link is sent automatically to their emails. It wouldl be great if the agency could have access to this link to help them through on the specific day of the interview.

- I want to be able to do more usability testing, which I know yer working on. UserTesting is terrible and I want to never have to use it. If you get usability testing down, I would use dscout for basically all research
- older panel members. we have a product taht skews +45, the panel skews much younger. This is problematic sometimes

Not much, one thing that could be better is allowing researchers to have multiple column questions but I understand that might not look good on mobile. People are typing with thumbs.
