## About Dremio
Dremio is the pioneer of The Agentic Lakehouse—the only data platform built for agents, managed by agents. Organizations need to transform ideas into actions at unprecedented speed—Dremio delivers this agility by equipping AI agents with federated data access, unstructured data processing, and rich business context through its AI Semantic Layer. In the agentic-era, data engineering teams can’t manually tune performance for thousands of users and agents asking unpredictable questions every second. Dremio’s Agentic Lakehouse autonomously manages itself, removing undifferentiated management tasks, allowing engineers to focus on initiatives that drive business results. Dremio’s agentic lakehouse automatically optimizes queries, reorganizes data, and maintains performance at any scale. Dremio is trusted by thousands of global enterprises including Shell, TD Bank, and Michelin, and built on open standards. Dremio co-created Apache Polaris and Apache Arrow, and it's the only lakehouse built natively on Apache Iceberg, Polaris, and Arrow.

## Dremio Reviews
 ### 1. Flexible SQL for Handling Data from Many Sources

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tariel (Tato) B. | Lead Developer, Financial Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

SQL allows for a lot of flexibility when handling data from various sources.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

It's threads can sometimes get stuck, which makes the queries unable to run leading to frustration

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data ETL becomes much easier. It is a great solution at great cost with great interface compared to what else is available on the market. I personally use it to make sure that the filtered data comes in and provides enough transformation to fit the destination database.

 ### 2. Unified lakehouse platform for Analytics and Al

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luca P. | Chief Operations Officer DEQUA Studio | Formerly CTO in MarTech, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

I love the platform’s ability to connect to a wide array of data sources, including relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MS SQL), NoSQL systems (MongoDB, Elasticsearch), and cloud or file-based storage like S3 and HDFS, without requiring complex ETL pipelines.

This approach simplifies data integration and reduces engineering overhead.

The SQL query engine is highly performant, delivering sub-second response times even on large datasets, and supports live data visualization and dynamic previews during query preparation.

Data reflections feature acts as an intelligent caching layer, optimizing query performance and enabling low-latency dashboard refreshes for BI workloads.

The platform’s virtual datasets allow for complex query logic to be encapsulated and reused, supporting data-as-code principles such as Git-like version control and experimentation.

Cloud-native architecture offers elastic compute scaling and is available as a managed service on AWS and Azure, making it suitable for both on-premises and cloud deployments. It supports role-based access control and multitenancy, which is essential for enterprise environments with strong data governance requirements.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

The learning curve can be significant, especially when configuring advanced features like data reflections, multitenancy, and integrating with complex enterprise authentication systems.

While the UI is functional, some administrative and monitoring functions feel less intuitive compared to other modern analytics platforms.

I have also found that fine-grained access controls and tenant isolation require careful configuration to avoid inadvertent data exposure in multi-tenant scenarios.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dremio has eliminated the need for traditional ETL pipelines in my analytics workflows, allowing direct querying and data exploration across disparate sources without data movement.

This has resulted in faster dataset creation cycles and reduced bottlenecks between data engineering and analytics teams.

The platform’s autonomous performance optimization and use of data reflections have significantly improved query speeds, enabling real-time analytics and interactive BI dashboarding even on large, complex datasets.

By adopting Dremio, I achieved unified access to both structured and semi-structured data in a single platform, which streamlined data governance and cataloging.

The self-service model empowered business analysts to experiment and iterate on data products without constant engineering intervention, accelerating time-to-insight for AI and analytics projects.

The platform’s open, standards-based approach has also made it easier to integrate with existing tools and future-proof my data infrastructure against vendor lock-in concerns.

✅ My overall insight: Dremio has enabled a more agile, scalable, and cost-effective analytics environment, supporting both operational BI and advanced data science initiatives in a unified, governed, and performant manner.

 ### 5. Essential service for data management and analysis.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Leonor V. | Real Estate Agent, Real Estate, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2024

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

Dremio became an essential solution to maintain instant data collection in our company, which is why we decided to extend our use of Dremio in the first year of use, we noticed that the results on data collection had been very complete and had helped us to collect data from various sources and virtualize it, as well as export this data to analysis platforms. One of the things I liked most about Dremio were:

1.- Dremio integrates perfectly with platforms such as Power BI and Tableau, we currently use Dremio with Power BI integration and we have noticed that this integration has been relatively good, just by linking a new API we have been able to extract and synchronize data in real time so that our end employees can have a perfect data analysis.

2.- We store various data from our properties, financial data, customer data, and much more, so Dremio has been a completely perfect database service, with SQL support and Apache support, which allows me to connect to different data sources, extract data easily, and establish data virtualization, either to combine data or to transform new data.

3.- I love the way Dremio is able to have automated table creation, in these tables you can correctly organize all the data collected from different sources and then transfer this infromation to Power BI. The automated Power BI service and the AI it uses have helped us generate quick reports on the behavior of new data with respect to old data, to be able to see comparisons in real time, see data sources depending on regions, and much more.

4.- Dremio uses a very advanced data migration compared to other similar platforms, using very advanced protocols such as JDBC, which helps to migrate data in a few seconds, and helps to keep the transfer of data to the database almost instantaneous.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

One of the features that I din't like about Dremio is that originally this platform doesn't have a real-time analysis service and automatic report generation like Power BI and platforms like Tableau do. Even though I really liked this integration between both platforms because it helps me manage reports quickly, I think that Dremio should have its own BI function to enhance the analysis of new data within the platform and that data migration is not so necessary every moment. Another feature that I didn't like about Dremio is that the platform in general needs to be used by a person with a lot of experience in database management with Apache and SQL, otherwise, you will have complications for the administration and migration of data of all kinds and from any source. These have been the only negative things that I have noticed about Dremio, since with respect to the functions that it currently offers, all the functions have been useful in my company and have not given any kind of failure.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At our company, we use Dremio to help us manage most of the data we use for customer management, financial management, property management, new project management, and much more. Dremio has been too secure a database for us, we feel that the time we have invested within this platform has helped us collect essential data for decision making within the company, Dremio was integrated with most of the platforms we use daily for data management and reporting, this has managed to further enhance the results we already had when we started using it. We currently use the Enterprise Version of Dremio and we do not regret having started using it. For our projects, Dremio has allowed us to correctly visualize the workload depending on the data collected, optimize data based on overall costs, analyze overall data in the cloud, organize workloads separately depending on the projects. Overall, Dremio has been instrumental in the collection, management, organization and manipulation of data for our company, as well as helping to maintain data security and ensure a completely secure data migration.

 ### 6. Dremio make daily work easy, but needs little polish

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Abhishek C. | Associate Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2025

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

Its just how easy it is to use. When we first onboarded, I was surprised at how fast we could connect to, like, multiple data sources. Didn't have a huge setup headache, which was awesome. The implementation wasn't that bad, especially comparing to some other BI tools we used. I mean, it wasn't 100% smooth, had a few little hiccups, but overall we got it running way easier than I expected.
It's got pretty rich feature set—the reflections and acceleration stuff is cool for performance, even if it feels a bit overwhelming at the start. Integrating it with our existing stuff, like our AWS S3 buckets and Snowflake, was pretty straightforward. No major drama there,Oh, and the SQL editor is way better than I thought it'd be..Overall, it just feels like a tool built for speed and flexibility. we use sometimes multiple times a day when I have to do ad-hoc analysis or explore big datasets Yeah, there's definitely a learning curve, no lie. But once you get past that, you realize how powerful it is.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

Their customer support is decent. Sometimes they take a bit to get back to you, but most of the time I've gotten a proper solution that actually fixes the problem. The performance is weird sometimes, like one day a query runs blazing fast, and then the next day the exact same query is just... slower. For no obvious reason, The UI also feels a little clunky at times, not gonna lie. Especially when you're trying to handle a really large dataset, it'll just freeze up for a second , laggy . Makes the whole experience feel less smooth than it should. And the documentation... yeah, it could definitely be better. A lot of times I've had to just google around on forums or actually reach out to support just to find some small configuration detail that should really be in the main docs. Wastes a bunch of time.
Also it's not exactly cheap. When you start to really scale it up, especially running on our own cloud infra, the bills start to add up. I feel like for smaller teams, the admin side of things can feel too complex for what you need. Just setting up user permissions and everything is a whole thing.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

So Dremio's basically solved our whole issue with data being scattered everywhere. Before this, we were always having to copy and move data into some central system just to be able to run a query on it. Super time-consuming .We can now just query right on top of where the data lives. Like, directly on S3, or Snowflake, even some of our old legacy databases. We don't need to build these massive ETL pipelines just for a simple question, which is a game changer. It's also helped a ton with speed. Those reflections they have? They make a huge difference on heavy queries. Our reporting team used to have to wait like, hours for their results to come back, and now it's way faster. Saves a ton of times for our day-to-day analysis and helps us make decisions way quicker.

The Reflections feature is awesome. It allows you to seamlessly accelerate queries by pre-aggregating query results at various aggregations that you can define over time, based on actual query usage. If you move away from Tableau, Dremio is how you can replace Tableau's Extract feature. Or, if you're using Superset, you can insert Dremio in between Superset and the data sources to auto-magically speed up slow queries and dashboards.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

Dremio OSS does not support encrypted ODBC or Flight connections. You need Enterprise for that.

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

Dremio initially caught my eye because the company grew out of the open-source arrow project, which was already a fantastic project and critical to big data platforms.

Dremio does one thing really well and a couple of other things pretty well:
- To start with, with regards to scalable data access, whether you're accessing terabytes of parquet/files or megabytes of database information, Dremio _just works_. There are very few other solutions that 1) allow you to join different data sources on-demand, 2) do _not_ run 24/7 but spin up clusters when you need them and 3) have a reasonably user-friendly interface. The combination has made Dremio crucial to increasing productivity at my company.

However, Dremio offers even more than the killer feature of easy data access described above:
- Good mechanisms for data governance, including internal lineage graphs between datasets
- Ways to structure computing resources with regards to finetuning query performance -- if you need dashboard datasets to perform more quickly than UI datasets, it's almost a point-and-click operation
- You can expose internal statistics on usage and performance for all queries
- Better and better granularity with regards to managing users
- Most tools only allow users to download a max of 1-10k rows of data. Dremio easily allows 1 million rows and performs on this as well

Dremio has really thought about how companies should manage and expose data and has made sure to provide a design and the technology to make data access, democritization and governance easier.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

Dremio is still a young company and while the product works well, they're still working very hard at improving it.

We have not yet run into a single bug on production, but it was initially noticeable that it's a young product (start 2021).

Fortunately, they are rapidly making new releases and fixing a lot of the little issues so that the product has a good, professional level of quality.

**Recommendations to others considering Dremio:**

Dremio is more expensive for smaller organizations -- even though we are smaller and it is thus more expensive for us, it's been able to solve problems that cheaper solutions were not capable of, in particular easy, scalable, manageable performant data access.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As I mentioned above, Dremio solves data access in a performant, easy way -- and much easier, faster and in a smarter way than any other tool that I've yet to come across in 2021.

 ### 32. Dremio as a next-generation data lake engine

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel S. | Senior Data Engineer , Telecommunications, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 19, 2021

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

- Dremio allows business users to access data easily on multiple platform (HDFS, Oracle RDBMS, SQL Server, Json, etc.)

- Standardized semantic layer: Eliminate the need for copying and moving data—no more cubes, aggregation tables or extracts—and recurring instances of data drift.

- Accelerate dashboards and reports: Integrate BI tools such as Tableau, PowerBI directly with Dremio and accelerate dashboard/reporting queries

- Accelerate ad-hoc queries: Driving lightning-fast queries directly on your data lake storage. Dremio’s combination of technologies—including an Apache Arrow-based engine.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

Lack of database connectors (a.e. BigQuery, Cassandra).

UI will be improved in the next version.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are putting in place a Data Virtualization Layer (Dremio) inside the company.
The business users are able to access and connect the data of multiple source systems with Dremio.
We are then aiming to launch Advanced Analytics use cases.

 ### 33. Made us rethink our whole architecture!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark Z. | AVP, Application System Architect, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

The ease of which it allows you to quickly explore new data sets, is impressive. I am always in awe at how quickly we can consume huge data sets (folders full of CSV or Parquet files) and structure them to work as a single data table. This process would have typically taken an IT resource to create/apply a script to manipulate/load the data into a database or single file, and we have our "business" users with no IT experience doing it right away. They still rely on IT to write queries against it for them, but they can explore the data right away. With a little training, even our "business" users are writing SQL to explore the data.

We have a large-scale project to allow our entire organization access to the data they need to do their jobs. We had a large-scale ETL process that transforms that data into a data model and combines data generated inside our firm to data provided from our vendors. Adding Dremio into our environment meant that we no longer have to model the data provided by our vendors. We can spend more time modeling our internal data and running additional data quality checks instead of constantly adjusting our data model when we want to onboard new data from external vendors.

With personal spaces, our end users can upload a simple Excel document and join that to the data we have made available in our platform with no assistance from IT. And with the latest tools provided by the Dremio Professional Services, we now have the reports to show us what users are using what data sets! This allows us to constantly monitor our environment for bottlenecks and stale or unused data sets. This is a massive win for us!

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

While Dremio has been a huge asset to the firm, there are several things that could be improved and there are some scenarios we have seen that it is not the appropriate tool for. We have an environment that has multiple storage accounts in the cloud and several databases that we connect to. We have had several performance issues when we combine data in our data lake to the databases. It turns processes into a single threaded query and essentially locks up or blocks all access to both the dremio environment and the database (Synapse in this case). Since implementing Dremio they have added Delta Lake support and we have turned to this to solve that issue. Since implementing Delta Lake instead of Synapse, we have essentially eliminated this issue.

As with any tool, there is a learning curve to the interface, the interface is rich and has a lot of features but lacks some usability aspects. We have provided feedback to Dremio on this and they have been attentive to these requests so I have confidence this will get better. Going from a typical SQL IDE like Management Studio is a bit of an adjustment, but you get used to it.

We user Power BI and to date, Dremio is not a first level provider for Power BI. You can connect and consume data from Dremio, but I cannot get information about what user is connecting, etc. I am waiting for MS to make them a first party provider.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were trying to solve a data virtualization issue. We wanted to disconnect the data we provide to our end users from the physical data sources we get the data. Using the best practices of Dremio, we have been able to accomplish this and have already benefited from this. We were able to adjust from providing data from a Synapse instance to Delta Lake with zero impact to our end users and did not have change any of our queries.

Another side benefit of using Dremio is the time to market of our external data. We are able to quickly onboard sample data from the vendor and allow end users to explore this to determine if this is something they wish to pay for. We can then automate the feed of that data very quickly and make it immediately available.

 ### 34. Accelerate your data transformation by freeing up access to your datalake

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Badr L. | Directeur Stratégie & Incubation, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2021

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

The capacity to create specific data marts for each department that are sourced from a common database for all the company.
The reflection feature is also remarkable as it enables us to save storage and reduce our daily data transformation jobs.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

The need for a strong cluster that companies in an early data transformation stage have not necessarily.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are putting in place self BI inside the company.
We are then aiming to launch Advanced Analytics use cases (Churn, appetence scores, risk ratings, etc.)
Finally, we aim to feed our CRM with a customer omnichannel view + insights from the Advanced Analytics Use cases.

Two months after putting in place Dremio, our Risk Department has autonomously created its own Data Mart and used it in Tableau Software to create a dozen reportings from board level to branch one.

 ### 35. Handy engine to bring many sources of Big Data together with good performance

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Julien L. | Data Services Lead, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 21, 2021

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

I really like the ease of configuring many different sources and create views that do unions across them. I'm also a big fan of Flight's performance for data-retrieval!

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

Dremio isn't an industry standard (yet), so help on the official forums or rest of the internet can be quite limited.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're aiming to offer a single view, that exposes near-live intraday data (in low-latency storage solutions) as well as far-back history (in high-bandwidth Big Data stores). We try to make it as easy, transparent and performant as possible for users to access any data we store internally.

 ### 36. Dremio is really cool!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

With a tiny engineering team (1) we were able to get Dremio up and running in AWS for our org to start using. It is extremely easy to bring silos of data from all over the organization held in various formats and make them available in our platform.

Once in the platform, it provides a non-threatening interface to allow both analysts and non-analysts the ability to search, find and query the data for their use cases. Dremio has done a wonderful job!

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

Dremio definitely puts the "democracy" in "data democratization", but I wish there were more tools to allow a little more control of what data sources are made public on the platform. An organization wouldn't want to be too strict over who can do things in this powerful platform, but being too open could result in data confusion.

Data governance tools to help make sure appropriate documentation or tagging are provided or possibily a request/approval workflow before something is made public to everyone would be really nice.

**Recommendations to others considering Dremio:**

If you are looking for a centralized data platform for your org, you should include Dremio in your evaluations. Definitely worth your time learning more about.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest problem we are solving is around the data silos in our organization. Dremio allows us to make data accessible and usable by a much larger population.

 ### 37. Flexibility in data management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lotar S. | Head of Big Data and Analytics Competency Center, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 04, 2021

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

-Dremio allows business analysts to access data easily on any platform (HDFS, Oracle RDBMS, EnterpriseDB, SQL Server, etc.)
-Cross-platform queries a huge advantage
-Helps to get rid of unneccesarry ETL jobs
-Brings data lake close to the business, it has helped a lot in the demistification of big data technologies
-There are continuous improvements which makes Dremio better and better

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

-Lack of NoSQL database connectors (HBase, BigQuery, Cassandra)
-The UI could be more user friendly

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our objective was to consolidate and streamline data management across multiple data domains and provide fast access to customer data from diverse sources. With Dremio we have achieved it pretty fast.

 ### 38. Great software for data virtualization and Data Lake engine

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Areg A. | Director of Data Governance Department, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2021

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

- Simple UI
- Low entry threshold for enduser (SQL is enough)
- Data Virtualization - one point to access lots of heterogeneous sources
- Materialization features
- Makes our ad hoc and self-service very fast.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

- No scheduling for materializations yet.
- Some work is needed regarding logs/error descriptions - sometimes they're not very understandable.

**Recommendations to others considering Dremio:**

Wisely consider your cluster size and your semantic layers structure

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Ad hoc analytics
- Data preparation for Data Science/AI/ML purposes
- Self-service reporting
- Centralizing access to various sources.

 ### 39. Accelerating Client Resiliency through enabling data driven insights

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2021

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

Intuitive, effective and transformative. Dremio enables us to provide quicker time to insights for our clients and internal uses. The tool is very user friendly. Their support team is awesome and always super helpful as well. Personal experience through the Dremio Support and Sales teams and open to feedback. The tool supports alot of downstream connections and usage through its API and JDBC/ODBC connection which we use to visualize and present insights to our clients and customers.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

Limited Data Source Connections is something we constant run into issues with. RBAC would be a great feature as well since single sign on through AAD doesnt keep credentials just gives access to the platform. Also difficult to see the logs without putting in some extra effort to find them. Dremio is still developing and we understand that some of these dislikes are currently being resolved through the course of the products development.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are helping organizations be more resilient through black swan events by driving and guiding their data insights and actions based on data. We have realized quicker time to pull data together and perform analysis to drive decisions. This has saved clients money and time on a regular basis! We are seeing great interest in our clients to solve issues around siloed data, duplicate data, non democrotized reporting data and insights. The need to standardize the approach to data and govern and access in a consistent manner.

 ### 40. Turn on the lights on the data lake

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Laurentiu M. | Business Intelligence Director, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2021

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

The best thing about Dremio is that it's very easy to use from the start. And then the more you work with it, the more you discover, you see that it's also really powerful as a query engine, as a data catalog, and as a query accelerator.

Beyond the software itself, the company is very cool. The people are very smart, knowledgeable, and always helpful.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

I think there's room for improvement in surfacing error messages to users.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are making it easy to analyze the data from our data lake and quickly surface data in some other databases.

 ### 41. Dremio Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 10, 2021

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

I like how easy it is to get the data ready w/o going through the ETL/ELT process.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

They don't have their own BI too. You have to connect to the 3rd party tools.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I tried to do a data analytic task.
I am pleased about how easy it is to perform my job.

 ### 42. Had a great experience building our Data Virtualisation layer with Dremio on top of our Data Lake.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shayen Y. | Senior Data Analyst, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 10, 2021

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

Lightning-fast query speeds, ability to easily work with data lakes

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

Intermittent issues, needs to be tested on a wider range of datasets

**Recommendations to others considering Dremio:**

Dremio is most suitable for organizations with huge volumes of data (in 100s of GBs). That is also when you will be able to see the value of Dremio vs a traditional Data Warehouse

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moving from Data Warehouse to Lakehoue

 ### 43. Great product and excellent support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hugh B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

-Convenient web interface for running SQL queries on our data
-Supports a broad range of data source
-Processing for queries is extremely fast when accelerated (rarely over 1 second)
-Python API is fairly easy to use
-Prompt and knowledgeable support team that are always willing to walk us through problems over video call

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

It's hard to say, because most/all of the problems that we've had with Dremio are likely because we're several versions behind due to compatibility problems with some of our legacy infrastructure. eg. missing features that exist in newer versions, or instability problems with reflections that are probably remedied in newer versions. That's on us, though.

**Recommendations to others considering Dremio:**

For queries over the Python API that return a significant amount of data, make sure you're using ODBC or pyarrow flight rather than the more basic REST API, as it's likely to be a lot faster.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm not sure how specific I'm allowed to be so I'm going to be vague here, but we use Dremio as a data platform for an internal analytics tool. It's a convenient way to access a central data source from multiple deployed versions of the tool (for development or demo purposes), so it's been very beneficial for development purposes over our more rudimentary old model.

 ### 44. With Dremio and Power BI combined, a data-driven culture can be established, on all data. (Gemany)

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel E. | Senior Berater, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

Dremio managed to provide a wide range of existing analysis tools with universal, fast and direct access to the data in a data lake. The time required to provide data and the IT footprint is reduced to a minimum. Intelligent options for caching query results and entire aggregates in memory for specific analysis scenarios makes working with these two tools a pleasure.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

Currently there is no managed service on the Microsoft Azure platform, which makes deployment difficult. However, Dremio is working hard on this issue.

**Recommendations to others considering Dremio:**

Have a look at Dremio University.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The goal with an analysis tool such as Power BI is to discover new insights and to visually present these insights so that other employees can understand them and make better decisions.

Nobody wants to deal with the acquisition or transformation of data. If you have a large amount of data, it is not practical to load this data into Power BI. Dremio enables us to perform analyses directly on the data in the Date Lake without the need for copying.

This turns a Data Lake into a database that can be queried by SQL.

 ### 45. Innovative and fast growing solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Renan P. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2020

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

Dremio is a powerful solution to connect your applications and BI tools to your data lake. They are very innovative and fast-paced to deliver new features and enhancements. The professional support team is very helpful and tries to understand the customer needs to deliver the best value. The variety of connectors available for the different data sources is really amazing as well the possibility to easily create custom connectors. The fact that the company contributes back to the community developing or open-sourcing tools is really nice.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

I believe Dremio's weakness is related to CI/CD because there is a couple of libraries, articles and even an open-sourced tool (which is great) to achieve it but it's still very hard and complex to have full automation. As I mentioned before, Dremio is very innovative and fast-paced, so, I believe they will address soon. One missing feature is the native support for Databricks Delta format but as far as I know it's on the roadmap and there is a workaround to be able to work with Delta. Another missing feature is the multi-master solution, it would be very helpful mainly when doing maintenances on the coordinator. Last but not least, it would be good to have the capability to use groups even when not integrated with an AD, LDAP, etc.

**Recommendations to others considering Dremio:**

Dremio is a very powerful and fast-growing tool and the support team is very helpful.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm delivering data from our data lake on top of Azure Data Lake Gen2 for both microservices through Rest API and BI tools such as Power BI. We are also using Dremio to accelerate and empower our teams to understand and take insights from data to meet business needs.

 ### 46. My Dremio experience as enterprise-wide data platform by big German client

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrej S. | Managing Delivery Architect, Insights&Data, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2020

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

Dremio helps us a lot to manage a high workloads from our reportnig systems and achieve a fast response time for more then 500 management dashboards. Many of our end-users like work with Dremio to avoid additional Data Engineering skills in team. For some of them it was surprisely fast after changing the Reporting from "Import" to "live" connection to move data processing directly to Dremio. But the most demanded feature was Reflections which gave sometimes lightning-fast (less then 1 second) response time without any re-engineering of business logic or reducing the data volumes.
In case of any issues and challenges Dremio was very cooperative on Germany and global level to solve it.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

As Dremio do not implemented Elastic Engine on Azure we need to maintain Kubernetes cluster to reach out needed ad-hoc scale-out requirements.

**Recommendations to others considering Dremio:**

Based on my exprerience Dremio fits for usecases when you:
..have Multi-Cloud stategy and want to avoid "lock-in" effect into one of cloud-vendor solution
..have onPremise Hadoop cluster or ODS store which performance is not enough
..have end users which wants to work directly with data, but have only SQL knowlegde
..want to offload data processing to Dremio from you BI-tools like Tableau or Power BI
..have usecases where time-to-market has a huge value (like a ad-hoc data exploration in Data Science)

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a different use cases on the same shared Dremio instance - "classical" Management Reporting, Self Service BI, Data exploration, AI Use Cases and Business Process Automation.
So our worloads ware not equal in time and not always predictable from "big-bang" requests and high-volume scans. But Dremio managed it in smooth way.

 ### 47. Next Generation SQL Engine

Dremio offers amazing SQL performance for our Cloud Data Lake
The UI is intuitive and offers some nice data preparation capabilities
Dremio's data strategy aligns with ours
Arrow Flight will offer a step-change in capability

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

Dremio's user documentation is lagging behind their capabilities
Dremio has some hard limits on the numbers of columns and fields that need to be raised to cover all use cases

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dremio is the foundation layer in our Analytics Stack, providing direct SQL access to PB of data and connectivity to advanced Analytic, ML and data visualisation tools. It's supporting our strategy to reduce/ eliminate the need for specialised data warehouse technology

 ### 48. Dremio is awesome!!!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** eric a. | Senior Data & Analytics Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2021

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

It is fast, easy to use, has a great community, and very powerful in terms of what it delivers, namely data aggregation, access, and usage for analytics.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

Dremio can appear to have a steep learning curve, but it isn't so bad.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're querying massive amounts of data stored in different places. We've realized our previous process was costing us a lot and that we should have adopted Dremio sooner.

 ### 49. Enabling fast and easy access to historically scattered enterprise data (Germany)

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 10, 2021

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

With Dremio we provided a single point of access to all available data in multiple op-cos and departments. Supporting a broad range of data storage technologies, Dremio is a perfect fit to provide a holistic combined view of all data available.

On the data-consuming side, Dremio also supports most of the various technologies used in the enterprise context. Ranging from Tableau and PowerBi to ODBC for Excel and in-house custom build systems.

The ability to describe standardized business data views in virtual data sets allows a unified data model. This is possible without the need to re-organize and move data physically.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

For us there could be support for even more data formats.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We've seen much more agility when creating data models for BI, analytics and data-consuming applications.

 ### 50. An effective tool, with great enterprise support.

**What do you like best about Dremio?**

* Integrates nicely with AWS. supports s3 buckets and aws hosted databases as data sources, as well as being able to use aws glue as a metastore.
* It's fast. Dremio is able to perform complex operations at scale very quickly. Many of our workloads that took tens of hours on our previous data analytics solution, now finish in under a minuet.
* Able to use a wide variety of data sources together. We able to seamlessly combine data from PostgreSQL and parquet files stored on S3 in a single query.
* Easy to connect to from external tools. Using their JDBC, a variety ODBC connectors and REST API we've been able to easily connect to, and use Dremio with a number of external tools on hosted linux or local windows. Jupyter, datagrip, excel, tableau.
* Great support and PS team. Having worked with the support team on issues ranging from inconsequential to major blockers, they have always been very responsive and fast acting.

**What do you dislike about Dremio?**

* Isn't currently transactional for data in an object store (s3). At least for an s3 data source you can't define a table then insert data into it. Any data written must be done via a Create table as Select style statement.
* Error clarity. initial errors displayed to users can be quite opaque requiring one to click through to a deeper menu to find the root cause.

**What problems is Dremio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One tool that can query and combine all our data fast despite being stored in different locations with different formats.
