"Great single place for all of our research to live!"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Dovetail?

Dovetail makes it really easy to get all of our Zoom interviews into the system fast with their direct integration. This means we can focus more time on actual analysis and insight generation. I love that their model allows everyone in our organization to be a viewer at no additional cost - the reason we went with Dovetail was to democratize research access across the org and this is a critical piece of that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dovetail?

The mechanics of tagging could still use some work, but they are very consistent with updates that usually improve the user experience. I'm hoping for more AI that helps me use my own knowledge and experience to generate insights, not just purely AI generated insights. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Game changer in our productivity and team performance"
5/5
What do you like best about Dovetail?

Dovetail was extremely easy to implement and very straight-forward. We could start using it from the very first moment. The team just spent some hours watching some tutorials and we agreed on some standarisation. This is something that we continuously review.

As researcher in the user research team, I'm using Dovetail at the very least on a weekly basis.

With Dovetail I am much more efficient doing my tasks and more effective with my responsabilities:

Research analysis.

I can analyse single research sessions very effectively thanks to the quick transcription and all tagging features.

The quality of my analysis has increased since I can easily find, visualise and identify relevant highlights to draw my conclusions, create insights or share specific moments with stakeholders.

The different hightlights views (board, table, canvas...) are super useful. Particularly the canvas and the automatic hightlight grouping. This saves me lots of time in projects where I have to work with a lot of data as I can start doing my analysis with a baseline and I can do affinity mapping in a very visual way.

Documentation

In the team we were looking for a tool where all research could be easily documented and work as research repository. We have achieved that thanks to the insights features and notes/ insights fields. Now we can easily find past calls and research findings. All research projects are in one place and all it's content is available.

Search

Not only the researchers are searching for content but now that we've been using it for more than a year and we have enouch content, we see that other product people (designers, product managers, data insights, programe managers...) are using the tool to look for insights. The powerful search allows to search for anything.

Sharing research findings

Dovetail is also serving another key responsability of the user research team. We can now do more appealing research reports and create atomic insights. They are not only well documented and findable but it's easy for us to share specific learnings or session moments in Slack, presentations, meetings, etc.

It has helped to give visibility to the rest of the organisation what the user research team does and how it can contribute and is awakening the interest of other teams into looking for research insights.

In summary, it has increased our productivity and is supporting us in key aspects to grow our team maturity and impact. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dovetail?

Nothing that I dislike but there are some things I wished they were improved:

- Transcription is still not good in many cases with non native-speakers. In some cases, we still have to spend a lot of time ammending transcriptions. Hopefully the transcription models will keep improving over time. If that would improve, it would have a big impact in our productiviy.

- Note and insight editing and format options could be better. There are no indexes and some formating options are a bit limited.

- More capabilities to manage the fields. single-select or multi-select fields can grow organically and get difficult to manage or become unuseful. It'd be great if we could somehow control or manage them, similar to tags.

- Content search is still challenging to stakeholders. Although I see there are some improvements coming thanks to AI

- Integration with product board. I wish we could have the ability to fill in some product board insight fields, right now we can only edit the tags. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Good for qualitative analysis, not great for insights discoverability"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Dovetail?

Dovetail is a great platform to analyze qualitative data from user interviews. We use it for all qualitative research projects, at least 2-3 times a month. The platform offers many solutions to improve the efficiency and accuracy of this process, such as automated transcripts, tags, and AI features to detect relevant quotes and help organize data. They also provide project templates so the platform is easy to use and implement.

Their customer support is great and always provides helpful resources. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dovetail?

Qualitative data analysis: While Dovetail is pretty good on this front already, they could add a few features to make this process easier.

- Speakers in the transcripts are not automatically assigned.

- There is no way to timestamp the notes so it's challenging to use and understand them in the context of the interview.

- There is no way to write down insights as you analyze the transcript.

- We need to manually add transcripts from Google Drive which is time-inefficient.

- Create AI summaries and look for relevant themes with AI based on provided hypotheses we try to test during research.

- Based on provided hypotheses and interview transcripts, provide assessment of how well we were able to address the hypotheses in the interview, what we can improve in the script to do it better, and notes for improvement for the facilitator.

Research repository: Insights in Dovetail are not easily discoverable.

- No way to tag insights,

- No way to save search filters for others to use,

- No way to see all research in a simple, easy to navigate view. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"The best tool for organizing interviews and finding themes"
5/5
What do you like best about Dovetail?

Great interface. It's easy to upload content and keep it organized. You can also highlight important passages and find themes, which you can then tag- which is such a time saver when you're revisiting interviews years later. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dovetail?

The price. My organization can't afford to give everyone access, so the information needs to be shared in different ways. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"It's been a game changer for our team"
5/5
What do you like best about Dovetail?

We are pretty new to Dovetail but have already seen a massive benefit from using it. Our designers are able to analyse their research faster and bring collaborators and stakeholders onboard much faster. Our customer facing teams are able to now access customer insights quickly and easily, allowing them to be better informed about their feedback and therefore serve them even better. We have been able to share our research on a larger stage across the company, helping us show the value of design. We are really pleased with it, it's a tool we now use daily. I highly recommend Dovetail to anyone looking to help their research teams be more efficient and have their research be more visible and transparent. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dovetail?

Nothing specific - it took a bit of time to get all of the templates and tags set up, but that was always to be expected. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Indispensable part of my customer research toolkit"
5/5
What do you like best about Dovetail?

Dovetail have done an amazing job of tackling some of the most tedious aspects of qualitative research and analysis, which allows me to work faster and deliver more tangible and engaging insights to my stakeholders and clients. I'm particularly looking forward to using some of the recent features which support stakeholders to self-serve insights even more smoothly.

They're clearly listening closely to their own customers and continuously improving and evolving their product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dovetail?

As the product has been through some pretty significant changes, there's been times when I've needed to re-adjust my process and ways of structuring research data. Not a major, but this can take a bit of extra time and effort to adjust! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A Great Way to Document Insights"
4/5
What do you like best about Dovetail?

We do a lot of user research in my company and Dovetail helps keep everything in one place. It's easy to use, it's fast to upload all the content and it helps me keep our insights organized by themes. I have been using it for several years. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dovetail?

I am not a big fan of the new AI features, I don't think it really adds anything to my analysis process. I also miss the previous search features, now it feels a bit harder to find what I need accross projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Dovetail makes it super easy to organize and tag all my research data. I love how I can quickly search for themes and track insights across different projects—it saves so much time! Plus, it’s great for teamwork since everyone can jump in and add their own findings, making collaboration a breeze. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dovetail?

"Dovetail is currently the best tool to create you research repository"
4/5
What do you like best about Dovetail?

It's simplicity, it have powerful functionalities but it doesn't overwhelm you with the ammount of options it offers.

It shines in processing videos and transcripts, highlighting sections, categorizing and summarizing text with it's AI.

Also allows you to create templates which are great to guide your team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dovetail?

The management of PDFs and CSVs. It do offers the possibility to upload this types of files but it needs to improve how it works, the pdfs look super small and are hard to read and to highlight and the CSVs upload process still is clunky Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
