It's less about perfect modeling and more about helping teams act on data every day. The feature I value the most is Magic ETL with Alerts as a very close second. It eliminates the dependency on data engineers for every small change and speeds up dashboard delivery dramatically. It bridges the gap between raw data and usable metrics. The initial setup with Domo is fairly easy compared to more engineer-heavy BI tools. We moved to Domo from Power BI because of faster time to insight, it's an all-in-one platform, and it offers better operational use. I would definitely recommend Domo to a friend or colleague. **What do you dislike about Domo?** The main things that don't work and should improve are complex data modeling and governance. There's no strong semantic layer like Looker's LookML, which makes it harder to enforce metric definitions across large organizations. It should have better version control, testing, and reuse for ETL, along with stronger centralized metric governance. Additionally, the cost and licensing complexity can be an issue; the pricing feels high as usage scales, and the licensing for users and storage can be confusing. The extract, transform, and visualize tools provide a simple path to convert raw data into actionable insights quickly. I found the initial setup of Domo to be very easy and efficient, being able to get started and have workflows and Apps in place swiftly. **What do you dislike about Domo?** I'm on a learning curve in using the workflow module, but with more time using it, I expect it to be as friendly and easy to use as the rest of the Domo platform. The modules in Domo University made it faster to learn, and easier to adjust to. Domo is a tool that I believe anyone could learn. Creating cards and dashboards is a breeze. It is also easy for internal users to navigate and to filter cards for information that they are looking for. I love how easy it is to export information into different formats like excel or powerpoint. The Domo Forums feauture is also very helpful when looking to learn how to do BeastModes for different use cases. **What do you dislike about Domo?** The only thing that I have found I dislike when it comes to Domo is when you are writing a BeastMode, you are unable to select the Measure or Dimension from the dropdown list on the left side. Without DOMO, our 5+ systems have no way of "talking" and creating meaningful dashboards. DOMO aggregates all the data (often times with pre-built connections) and turns all of our data into insightful visual graphics that are utilized to make important decisions within our company. In addition, DOMO became a solution for a universal spot to house all of our company's treasury info when Excel just wasn't cutting it. Treasury solutions such as Gtreasury and Kyriba were quoted to us in the 10's of $1,000s of dollars. This is not something that we have in the budget. The next best thing was creating a one stop shop in DOMO and it has been a game changer as it has accurately shown us fees over time, account features, and account information. I always refer to DOMO as Power BI on steroids :) **What do you dislike about Domo?** DOMO is a great product and I don't have much to say negatively about it! I think sometimes it can be a little difficult to understand how to create dashboards and get data to display the way you want it to. However, once you get the hang of it things are actually pretty user friendly. **What problems is Domo solving and how is that benefiting you?** DOMO has solved two big problems for us. 1.) In the real estate industry we are required to use many different ERP systems. As a result visibility across platforms can be a challenge. DOMO does an excellent job of aggregating all of this data in one spot and then we are able to do apples to apples comparisons of different properties across the portfolio. 2.) Treasury management is another challenge in the real estate industry. We are often times required to use different banking partners based on debt. As a result we begin compiling quite a collection of different banking partners. We have over 100 accounts in approximately 10 banks. It becomes hard to keep track of everything. We looked into treasury management solutions and the cost didn't make sense to us. DOMO was the perfect solution to aggregate all of our data and detail signer info, account features, and many other data points all in one spot. ### 12. Domo AI Chat Needs Maturity: Even with all AI readiness checks in place, the Domo AI chat still struggles to interpret queries accurately or return reliable answers. When showing a new user how to navigate, you basically just have to show them the filter views and how to use the date ranges (which isn't difficult). After that, they can pretty much navigate themselves and find insights that are interesting to them. The coding is pretty intuitive and Domo lets you know if the coding is accepted and valid. The only thing that would improve this process is if it would actually point out the part of the code that isn't working. That said, the knowledge library has a lot information in it and comes in useful quite often when the code isn't working or when you don't quite know how to do something. Domo excels when being used for visuals. If you're looking for a software that makes it easy to pull in data and create visuals based off of it, this is it. The development team continues to add more features and to make Domo more capable. **What do you dislike about Domo?** The coding language for Domo, while not difficult, is slightly different from other languages. It's mostly intuitive, but there are a few quirks that you have to be aware of. They're still working on developing some aspects, as well, so certain things like user editable fields are not currently an option. However, they are continuously improving and working on adding more functionality, so I don't find this to be concerning. It is not a CRM, so if that's what you're looking for, this isn't it (yet--maybe they'll develop that in the future). **What problems is Domo solving and how is that benefiting you?** Prior to Domo, we didn't have a great way to visualize our data (other than through data sheets and Excel graphs). This has made it easy to have many visuals and tables that automatically update once the data flows have updated. For those of us who are more visual, it has been amazing. Insights are easy to find and easy to retain. With the data streams that we have coming in, it's easy to merge them into tables to show more visuals and insights than we ever had available to us before. I can wrangle and manipulate the data in all sorts of ways to get it just the way I need it. 3. Beast Modes and fixed functions: What can't be done in ETL (or needs to be done on the spot) can be accomplished with Beast Modes in the vizulization. Fixed functions allow you to stack aggregations (sums of sums, sum of maxes, etc) **What do you dislike about Domo?** For instance, yesterday I was creating a pivot table and needed the cells to change color based on whether the dollar amounts met a specific threshold. Although there are several ways to change cell colors, I encountered some challenges. Initially, I attempted to use the color preference feature, but it required the cell to contain an exact value. I had a beast mode that categorized values as “Met expectations” or “Did not meet expectations,” and I wanted to highlight the dollar amounts in red or green accordingly. However, I could only color code based on the dollar amount itself. Given the variability in thresholds and the impracticality of specifying every possible dollar amount, this approach was not feasible. Next, I tried embedding the color change in HTML within the beast mode, which typically works, but it was ineffective in a pivot table. I then attempted to use green and red square emojis (🟩 and 🟥) concatenated with the dollar amount as a visual cue. While this provided a color signal before the dollar amount, it did not change the text color and resulted in the loss of comma separators for thousands. Although I could have programmed the beast mode to include these separators, time constraints prevented me from doing so. Ultimately, I opted for a separate column: one displaying the green and red emojis and another showing the dollar amount. Domo provides the best solution for embedded analytics I've ever come across, balancing ease of deployment while providing several different security options to also ensure that only the correct people have access to the correct data. Domo also provides hands down the best support for automations and alerting out of the box, they also have a great Office add on that allows users to access reports and datasets from their office apps, so they can share things on Teams, drop in content into Powerpoint, and for those who will never build in Domo out of prefrence or skill gap, Domo allows you to import datasets with filtering controls straight into Excel. Aside from this Domo also provides other tools that could replace other much costlier applications (which in my particular deployment made several applications that we paid 7X more for each than the cost of Domoredundant) things like Form Builder for questionnaires, Goals for simple project management (think monday reaplcement for Kanbans and such), and Course Builder that functions as an LMS. In terms of deployment Domo has a plethora of connectors that allow you to get your DWH connected in seconds using a user's existing credentials, however OAUTH does require some additional setup. Domo provides options that cater to all data proficiency levels across the product offering, typically a pro full code level, code-less drag and drop function gui, and no code option for novices or very simple tasks. This tends to extend to building datasets within the platform, data science and ML applications, as well as actual application building. Using Domo Cloud for storage results in the fastest visualization loading times I've experienced on any platform as the compute scales ellastically to provide sub second load times (AND YOU DON'T PAY FOR COMPUTE!!!!!). What I've found through all the deployments I've done over the last 5 years is that Domo is the platform that is the most flexible, easiest to learn, cost effective, and most importantly has the highest adoption by end users because of the fresh interface, and responsive performance. **What do you dislike about Domo?** Dataset run times via standard connectors tends to suffer when you get into multi millions of rows, time zone settings can be a bit funky if you're doing real time data streaming or need intraday data, and the mobile app is pretty limited as it is only used for viewing content without any ability to manage the platform via the mobile app. **What problems is Domo solving and how is that benefiting you?** Domo solves 3 main things speed to insights, cost, and end user adoption. ## Domo Discussions -
