What do you like best about Dips?

Dips is a handy tool I have been using since 2015 to analyze rock excavations in slopes and tunnels. Dips provide insight into rock mass properties and help you compare them easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dips?

I don't dislike anything. However, I would like to suggest that, while entering data into DIPS, the data format is critical, i.e., dip/strike or dip/dip direction. I have seen my colleagues making correct data entries but using the wrong orientation format, thus showing different results. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Dips solving and how is that benefiting you?

Dips has simplified the kinematic analyses so much that one can check the stability by looking at the stereonets.

The graphical representation of discontinuities helps Help in rock mass classification. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Dips Overview

What is Dips?

Dips is designed for the interactive analysis of orientation based geological data. The program is capable of many applications and is designed for both the novice user and for the accomplished user of stereographic projection who wishes to utilize more advanced tools in the analysis of geological data. Dips allows the user to analyze and visualize structural data following the same techniques used in manual stereonets. In addition, it has many computational features, such as statistical contouring of orientation clustering, mean orientation and confidence calculation, cluster variability, kinematic analysis, and qualitative and quantitative feature attribute analysis. Dips is designed for the analysis of features related to the engineering analysis of rock structures, however, the free format of the Dips data file permits the analysis of any orientation-based data.

(Original )Information
What do you like best about Dips?

The user interface, Rose diagrams and stereonet easily display the data. Most options related to the stereonet and rose charts were on toolbars, which is handy. Unfortunately, I don't have the software, but I learn this from youtube, so I will be ready when I have this software in the future. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dips?

There was nothing to dislike or mention about it. However, in my opinion, some 3D display end export options for slope analysis results would be great to have for the future. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Dips solving and how is that benefiting you?

This software should be helpful to a geoscientist to get ideas about their structural measurements from the field. So if it has a portable version connected with Ar or VR and measurement devices. That would be awesome. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Dips?

I like the Failure criteria analysis in kinematic analysis part. It can easily plot 500-1000 joint data of any traverse and show the plannar and wedge failure of given poles of data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dips?

No any dislike. Every tools is much important for Geologist. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Dips solving and how is that benefiting you?

It can solve the 500 or more joints data to prepare the RQD analysis, joint spacing, joint frequency and kinematic analysis like plannar, wedge and toppling failure may be probable in a perticular traverse.

It is beneficial for slope stability analysis and proper support design for perticular zone. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Dips?

I like the simplicity, reliability, and interface of this software which is what I like about this software. It does have options but not as many as in Slide, it may be because the rock application is less than soil. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dips?

The only thing I dislike - this program is nothing special because the rock sliding can be done fairly accurately correctly from excel so I find fewer applications of this software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Dips solving and how is that benefiting you?

It helps me find the stability of the rock slope with accuracy, simplicity, and reliability. It has several methods which i like the most. This is a helpful software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Dips?

Very simple tool to operate & provide explanatory results Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dips?

We cannot interact with joints/planes in stereonet mode. Visualization does not show legend of joints Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Dips solving and how is that benefiting you?

It helps in stereographic projection of joint set data. grouping of joint sets in clusters & doing kinematic analysis for various modes of failures. It helps me a lot in handling rock slope stability problems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Dips?

kinematic Analysis of Dips to specify the probable fialure modes. This is a user-friendly app and, in combination with other rocscience software, gives the first-hand evaluation of the rock slope or tunnel conditions. Of course, more detailed analysis are required for stability and support system design. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Dips?

I haven't ever used the RQD analysis in Dips Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Dips solving and how is that benefiting you?

I used it for a tool in Tunnel and slope support system design Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
