## DigitalOcean Reviews
  ### 1. Good performance at the right price

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Cosmetics | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

I think that the best feature is the ease of use of all the services, even the "low level" ones like droplets. Also the API is really cool for all kind of integration

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

Some services could have a real free tier, especially spaces and docker registry

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ease of use, elasticity in creating machines, without other providers complexity

  ### 2. Reliable, cost effective, and great for getting started quickly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kenneth K. | Managing Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

The biggest pros to us include:
- Bundled usage (especially bandwidth) with droplet pricing
- Free droplet health monitoring
- Never experienced issues with droplet capacity
- Simple credential management
- Rapid onboarding process
- Excellent customer support

After researching numerous cloud providers when looking for alternatives to AWS, we found Digital Ocean and decided that their pricing and droplet options would work for us. We'd been hammered by steep bandwidth costs from AWS, and issues with creating spot fleet instances in fall of 2022 that cause significant operational headaches for us. We also felt really nickle-and-dimed by AWS's extremely granular cost structure.

By moving to Digital Ocean, we saved lots of money right away and reduced our operational burden significantly. We were able to get in touch with representatives at Digital Ocean prior to onboarding, which helped us get started much faster. We've had vanishingly few problems with Digital Ocean and have never had a problem reaching someone on their end.

We saved additional operational overhead by using Digital Ocean's free droplet health monitoring and alerting tools. Further, we enjoy being able to use tags to apply firewall rules, and have recently made better use of Digital Ocean's DNS management features.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

The instance types are more limited for higher-scale applications, especially for those that require lots of local storage. Our primary issue with Digital Ocean is that we've hit our scaling limit on our largest applications that require lots of local ephemeral storage.

We also experience some UI issues when our automation is creating and destorying lots of droplets. We've found that the UI struggles when we have hundreds of droplets running at a time.

We also don't have the ability to search droplet history, even though some form of it is available. Pagination isn't feasible because we have thousands of pages of VM history.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DigitalOcean provides a more reliable and cost effective alternative to AWS. As a small company, this saves us valuable time and money. We've been able to do with much more on DigitalOcean than we'd have been able to do if we were still in the complex, expensive AWS environment.

  ### 3. Easy server instance deployment using Digital Ocean

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nidhi B. | S.M. Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

Most thing i like inDigitalOcean is oneclick deplyment, there is very user friendly UI where anyone can deply server instance (droplate), user don’t required deep knowledge to use DigitalOcean. Also, they provide excellent customer support then we face any issue, we just have to raise the support ticket as per priorities.
Another thing DigitalOcean is provide free credit of few days to learn the platform which is very good for begginers and students.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

PORT 25 is not open by default in fresh server instance. At the deployment time sometime some OS are not available in marketplace.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DigitalOcean provide the servers/VPS as very budget friendly pricing, another thing is at the time of deployment in marketplace many micro services or prebuild templates available to deply, so we don’t have to deply from scratch it save my a lot time. Also, when i get any issue, i can rise the support ticket and they help smoothly.

  ### 4. Get exactly what you want.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elijah D. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 07, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

DigitalOcean has been my go to server provider since I began my freelance programming career, I don't think I go a work week without opening it.

I've frequently used DO both for my own projects and my clients. I love the ease of use that picking the droplet you need, then destroying it when you are done, provides. As a freelancer, it provides a peace of mind to know what I'll pay down to the day and it makes dealing with potentially unreputable clients much easier when I can end a test droplet as I need without monthly subscriptions.

I'm also a fan of the ease of implementing uptime, resources, and SSL checking without a secondary service. It saves time in the short term and potentially adverts disaster long term.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

I've never experienced any issues with DigitalOcean services, although I feel the interface could use work. Why is uptime monitoring a seperate tab from where my droplets statistics are?

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DigitalOcean provides me the lowest cost VPS's for deploying test websites for demo's. No video presentations, or ackward slidedecks. For cents per day, I can deploy and download from Github to have a live demo that my clients can access in under thirty minutes.

  ### 5. Digital ocean is fast, reliable, good support. Always available for you as a corporate customer.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Georgios S. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

flat pricing.
good services
Fast support
Many assets
Great tutorials
easy of use
Ease of integration
100% uptime

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

Hard to auto scale but possible.
in general digital ocean has very good services, but can do a lot more with the new tech.

I haven't testes all aspects of it yet , but we shall see for more

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

i have many droplets with various load balancers. It has 100% uptime and i can sleep at ngight knowing that my servers will be there. Their tutorials benefit the ease of use and everything is easy to do.

  ### 6. Much Simpler than AWS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Caleb S. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 06, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

Very simple to use interfaces and tools for booting up web servers with certain stacks pre-installed. The dashboard is very clear to see utilization, server setup, backups, DNS records. Switching between server "sizes" and expanding storage it very strightforward and their online documentation is EXTENSIVE. I have found myself trying to use DigitalOcean's documentation on other servers that I am forced to use simply because they have done an amazing job of creating step-by-step guides with tips and warnings.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

There is not quite the variety of choices for server configurations and special tools (GPUs, AIs, etc) that AWS provides, but I can only get so upset about that because what I like about DigitalOcean is the simplicity. I have never needed to contact their support, but based on some of the things I have read it can be hard to get in touch with a human support team, that being said I have been using their service for years and never needed something that they didn't already ave documentation for.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed a relaiable and cost effective service to run a custom-coded eCommerce application (mostly PHP/MySQL) and they had plans that started at $5 and allowed me to scale up as my business needed.

  ### 7. One of the best Bare Metal tier 1.5 providers!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Giorgos S. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 06, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

When We have to make a support contact , the response is very fast, and always on the point.
Even the free tier of support that has only incedents and bugs, is very very fast and more than described.
Other than that , the network is super fast, their CDN is great. Features are getting relised all year round.
Hosted Databases and Functions (Miscro services architecture) is reliable and scalable easily.

Their API is transparent and you can create you own scalers for bare metal servers.

Digital ocean have great tutorials on how to use things and how to create your own server, which is super helpfull for teams without Devops.
their live backup feature is great, and their prices are very transparent.

Overall it's a great internet provider.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

I would like to see some more features for server downtime handling.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We can trust their infrastracture, their uptime is 99.99%+, their internal networking is great. Many location rounds the worls, transparent prices.

  ### 8. A user-friendly cloud platform

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Van N. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

I'm all about DigitalOcean's simplicity. The interface is like a breath of fresh air, making cloud management a walk in the park. Their pricing is crystal clear, no surprises, and the global data centers mean your stuff runs smoothly worldwide. One-click apps and Droplets are super handy for quick setups, especially for us devs.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

DigitalOcean is fantastic for many, but it's not the holy grail. It's missing some fancy enterprise features, and when you need help, customer support can take its sweet time. The managed services are lean, and those Load Balancers might hit your wallet harder than expected. It is great for most, but if you're after some heavy-duty stuff, you might want to look around.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quick Deployment with One-Click Apps and Droplets:
- Setting up and configuring virtual machines and applications can be time-consuming and complex.
- DigitalOcean offers one-click apps and Droplets, simplifying and accelerating the deployment process. This feature is particularly beneficial for developers, allowing them to set up applications swiftly and efficiently.

  ### 9. Helpful documentation and customer support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

There is a ton of great documentation and the customer support is top notch

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

Some of the documentation is a little outdated and some of the customer support seems to be utilizing AI/LLMs which I do not trust to be accurate

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes setting up and maintaining a server really easy.

  ### 10. Straightforward and predictable

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Janko M. | Co-Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 01, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

The predictable pricing is what matters most to me. I need to know every part of my monthly budget and DO makes that part very easy. Also, setting up servers is not hard as there are predefined options.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

The managed databases are on the pricier sides and support is sometimes difficult to reach.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Lack of self owned infrastructure

  ### 11. Solid, and dependable

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Derrick K. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

One of my favorite things about Digital Ocean is the ease of set up. I can easily set up a droplet in quick time, then follow one of the many helpful tutorials to set up a server. An added bonus is they offer excellent pricing for those getting started.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

I only have one dislike and it was a change to the protocol on changing Ports in Ubuntu. Since then DigitalOcean has addressed the matter to my satisfaction.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I need a place to test deploy my Django application, and DigitalOcean make it very simple to deploy and test my projects.

  ### 12. Great for experimental or independent projects

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pablo Luis C. | Systems administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

It's very simple to setup a droplet in general, and they have extensive documentation and tutorials to help you deploy your project very quickly and without much hassle.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

Sometimes it´s hard to comprehend their billing policies, but nothing major, you just have to read with a little more atetion.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

it gave me a simple cloud computing platform to setup my cloud servers for my independent media project

  ### 13. Easy start with DigitalOcean and when your project grow it's easy to scale them with control

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gustavo B. | Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 01, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

Fixed prices and controlled expenses.
Speed and simplicity in deployments.
Great control of resources.
Incredible documentation.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

Maybe improve firewall control and network restrictions a bit.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Deploy services in minutes with few configuration when is an standar project and givme Droplets to create my own custom configurations when i needed

  ### 14. Straightforward, easy to use for a first time user

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civic & Social Organization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 01, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

The ease with which I can deploy VMs, make alterations and redeploy. The FAQs and help articles have proven invaluable on a number of occasions. It was quick and painless to deply, undeploy and move ownership of droplets.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

For an early-stage startup, it is costlier to get set up with DigitalOcean than AWS.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We run survey servers, a Mattermost server and analytics server so DigitalOcean facilitates collaboration within the team, engagement with prospects and customers and the ability to deliver high quality business analytics.

  ### 15. Boring Digital services - as I like them.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 01, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

DigitalOcean provide the most boring service among it's peers. IT just works. Nice recipes to get you started and a solid foundation to keep you running I've had my collection of websites and -apps running for almost 10 years. If there have been any issues, the online support (at docs.digitalocean.com) always seems to have an solution.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

The prices have mostly stayed level or risen slightly. The new products and services offered seem more aimed at Enterprise customers than SME customers like me.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DigitalOcean provides all public internet-facing sites for my small business. Using DigitalOcean we've moved away from a physical server and shared hosting options in a datacenter to a complete virtual solution - with IPv4 and IPv6 support.

  ### 16. I've been using DigitalOcean to host an online community for 7 years.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vinaya Kumar B. | Engineering Team Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

I used DigitalOcean Marketplace Vendor Add-Ons API Documentation (https://marketplace.digitalocean.com/vendors/saas-api-docs) to easily create an Add-On so as to list my company solution on the DigitalOcean marketplace.

DigitalOcean support team was also very helpful in getting the Add-On listed on the marketplace.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

It would be useful to get some marketing analytics with regard to the Add-On listed on the DigitalOcean marketplace.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DigitalOcean is offering cloud services in a developer friendly manner which is ideal for early startups.

  ### 18. Terrible - Digital Ocean shut us down with no prior warning

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

Easy to set up the account and start using the service

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

Their team shut us down with no prior warning. We woke up to find our site down after tyring to investigate and reaching out to their team, they told us they couldn't share any furhter details.

Having used multiple hosting services, this one treated us the worst by far and for I would not reccomend anyone to use them. The risk is too high, and you could lose everyting overnight with no warning!

The fact that they will shut you down without notice or explantion is a major cause for concern and a violation of their users rights

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cloud computing

  ### 19. DigitalOcean - Nothing Extra

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Media Production | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

What I like best about DigitalOcean is its simplicity, dynamism, flexibility, and convenience. I appreciate being able to independently and autonomously access services tailored to my needs at any time, and seamlessly discontinue them without any explanations required.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

What I dislike about DigitalOcean is the confusion it can sometimes create, the subtle pushing of unnecessary services, the complexity of navigating through these additional features, and the existence of a marketplace that feels like a slight money grab.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DigitalOcean solves various problems by providing a versatile service that caters to different needs. This benefits me by offering a one-stop solution for various purposes, streamlining my workflow, and saving time and effort in managing different aspects of my projects or applications.

  ### 20. The perfect cloud provider with clear documentation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

DigitalOcean has these wonderful articles on introductory setup and topic which makes it easier to follow through and setup cloud resources and configure them.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

Its pricing is not super flexible and granular when compared to other cloud providers like AWS and GCP, if that can be worked upon, it would be a game changer.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is helping us efficiently manage digital infrastructure while keeping our costs under control.

  ### 21. Excellent hosting provider, fair prices.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joe T. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

Great service and support. My servers ("droplets") are always running, and never seem to have issues. When I do have a problem or question, their support is quick to address them. They are always adding new capabilities that I can leverage as well. It is quite easy to spin up new servers if and as needed.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

There are no real downsides. I migrated servers over from another provider because of their constant price increases and wonky web management interface. DO gives me all they had and more.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DO is providing reliable, cost-effective hosting that moves the servers out of my office and takes the issues of hardware maintenance, upgrades, and other attendant issues off of my plate.

  ### 22. easy to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marian D. | PHP Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

With little experience in deploying apps I can use app platforms and database clusters with just a few clicks.
Also, I like the fact that I can manage spaces and domains on a single platform

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

The last one that i remember is the fact that I am unable to configure a root domain for my app, I have to use www subdomain

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am deploying laravel apps using git repositories and rebuilding on push.

**Official Response from Faiza Zia:**

> Hi Marian,

Thank you for sharing such a positive experience. It means the world to us. We know how important good customer service is and have taken steps to improve that experience for our customers.

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

Very easy to setup, secure and they offer great pricing options that can grow with your needs.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

When you go for a starting droplet, it sometimes becomes unresponsive for no reason, and a restart is the only way to go. So I find myself pinging my site quite often to check it is running

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helps me have a website or app running very fast

**Official Response from Faiza Zia:**

> Hi Ruben,

Thank you for sharing such a positive experience. It means the world to us. We know how important good customer service is and have taken steps to improve that experience for our customers.

**Reviewed by:** Dylan J. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

I like the API driven approach to how you can manage DO resources.
They have nailed the simple things like provisioning app based images that are secure out of the box.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

The online documentation is what originally drew me to DigitalOcean. Time after time I'd be researching some technical subject and the DigitalOcean page for that subject came up. I quickly learned when I clicked on that link I'd get a detailed, quality, knowledgeable how-to, with helpful comments from other experts for obscure details. Years ago, when I needed a cloud provider, I was already attracted, and signed up with Digital Ocean. I soon discovered this same attention to detail was in their product. The dashboard is easy to use, yet powerful. Their service is very flexible, with lots of options in how to configure and deploy, which I do often. I always know the cost is going to reasonable, too. I have no reason to go elsehwere, but because of corporate structure, I also use a similar service offered by a larger competitor. It is more confusing and more expensive by far. On the other hand, DigitalOcean is easy to integrate with, and the customer support is competent and quick enough, especially for the price. So I love Digital Ocean and happily recommend it to anyone who is looking.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

Making snapshots sometimes takes a long time. In the middle of the night it goes quickly, so I assume it's just a matter of resource allocation. That's about it, though, I have very little to complain about.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy to deploy, long-term or short-term servers. We can expand or retract the size of our dev lab at will.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**
