## DigitalOcean Reviews
  ### 1. Effortless Setup and Use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2025

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

Ease of use and simplicity of user experience. I want infrastructure to host my application and I can log in, spin up a droplet, and start working very easily. I am comparing to using the AWS console which is overwhelming.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

I ran into a problem with SMTP ports being blocked by default which is understandable but it was not clear until I researched it. I bypassed it by using AWS SES api, but it took some figuring out.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simple VPS (droplet) hosting for my software as a service application. I need secure, high uptime infrastructure and DO solves that.

  ### 2. Very good selection of services. 99.99% Uptime.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Azeem C. | Senior Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2025

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

DigitalOcean has very good selection of services. You can create VPS server of all sizes and quantities. For instance, you can create a vps host (with 1cpu and 10gb hard disk) for as little as $4 per month. It can go all the way up to $1630/mo with 60 CPUs.

You can create GPU droplets as well.

Other think is about almost 100% uptime. Initially there some speed issues over the past. It could kick in once or twice in a month. But I think DigitalOcean has worked on this. I created an uptime monitoring service (which also is from DigitalOcean). It says, last outage was around 175 days ago. That is very nice.

It's website is neatly structured. Great ease of use.

Customer support is also very good. Very responsive. I am using the free plan. In this plan, they reply you within 24 hours. Every time I opened a ticket, they would promptly answer it.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

I dislike a couple of things about DigitalOcean. Centos 10 was released on December 12, 2024. But it is not available yet in DigitalOcean as of today (7th May). Other providers like Vultr has it already. The selection of linux distributions is also limited. Compared to Vultr, DigitalOcean does not have that much choice of linux distributions.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DigitalOcean provides almost 100% of Uptime. That is very convenient.

**Official Response from Faiza Zia:**

> Hi Azeem,

We really appreciate your detailed review. We're thrilled you love our service selection, near 100% uptime, and responsive customer support, even on the free plan. We're constantly working to improve our offerings and appreciate your feedback on the availability of newer Linux distributions like CentOS 10. Thanks for highlighting how we're solving your need for reliable uptime.

Thanks for being part of the DigitalOcean community!

Best,
DigitalOcean

  ### 3. Best and Developer Friendly Cloud Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ujjwal A. | Devops Engineer, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 07, 2025

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

1 - Very Easy to setup and manage droplets that is we can spin up servers or apps in just few minutes.
2 - Simple and Clean UI
3 - Transparent pricing we always know what we are spending
4 - Great documentation and community support

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

1 - It has limited advanced services when comapred to aws.
2 - Load balancer and monitoring features are basic.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes it really easy for us to spin up servers and deploy apps without wasting time on complex setup. It’s affordable, reliable, and helps our team stay focused on building rather than managing infrastructure.

  ### 4. Fast & secure & most reliable

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lajith K. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2025

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

Clean UI & UX: The control panel is intuitive and uncluttered, making it easy to spin up and manage virtual machines, databases, and other services even for beginners.

Transparent pricing: Their pricing model is straightforward and predictable—especially attractive for startups and developers who need to keep tight control over costs.

Developer community & documentation: DigitalOcean has built a strong library of tutorials and guides, which are often more accessible and practical than what you find from bigger cloud providers.

Droplets (VMs): Launching a Droplet is fast, and performance tends to be solid for most general-purpose applications.

Managed services: They’ve expanded into managed databases, Kubernetes, app platform (PaaS), etc., offering more flexibility while maintaining simplicity.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

Additional payment methods should be introduced to support currencies other than the US Dollar, such as Indian Rupees for customers in India.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My droplet has maintained 100% uptime, and the support team responds promptly via email whenever I submit a request

  ### 5. Two Years with DigitalOcean: A Simple and Smooth Experience for My Projects

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeff L. | Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2025

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

I've been using DigitalOcean for two years to support my own project. What stands out the most is how easy it is to use. The platform is beginner-friendly, the UI is clean, and setting up servers or other resources is straightforward without needing to dig through complex configurations. This simplicity helped me focus more on building my project rather than managing infrastructure.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

One downside I've noticed is the lack of a free tier for cloud databases. For beginners or small projects, having a zero-cost starting point would make it easier to experiment and grow without upfront costs. Compared to other providers that offer limited free database options, this can make DigitalOcean feel less accessible for early-stage users.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DigitalOcean made it incredibly easy for me to kick off my project. With just a few clicks, I was able to set up a service instance and get everything running without needing advanced technical knowledge. Their pre-configured Droplets and marketplace apps saved me a lot of time, allowing me to focus on developing my application rather than spending hours setting up the environment. This ease of setup was a major factor in helping me move quickly from idea to execution.

  ### 6. Very flexible, powerful API and website, decent prices!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David P. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2025

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

As an occasional web developer and someone who wants to move forward with creating a bunch of powerful APPs in the future... Digital Ocean allows me to expand as my needs fit. I also love the fact I can choose to run my websites/APP's on AMD processors.

If you need more space... drag the slider. If you want another droplet, add one. If you want a load balancer, add one. It's very flexible and even as an intermediate web developer their systems are quite well done.

Prices seem fair and we use the Toronto location for hosting. We are now hosting 12 domains on a single simple low cost server. We will be expanding and coding for years to come and at least we know that if we need more... Digital Ocean can handle it.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

Using G2 to submit a review. After finishing the entire review, it FAILED to submit for no reason whatsoever... I wasted 25 min of my time.

I had very detailed answers in every category to be very thorough... the question remains... should I redo everything and waste another 25 min only to have it fail again? And now, most likely won't be chosen for the $25 gift card all because your site wouldn't submit my review and I don't feel like giving super detailed answers having to do this twice.

Ugh...

--------
I am just going to summarize my answers since I already gave detailed ones... please fix your website.
--------
My answer for what I dislike about DO?

So far nothing. It's been fine, but as I had posted on before, if I had to find a fault with DO... (ugh)... I can't even remember what I wrote now. How frustrating this has become. I'm on a deadline, thought this wouldn't take that long... and now that I have to redo it... I'm all frustrated... can't think...

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ease of use, infinite expandability.

  ### 7. Great service for reasonable cost

  ### 8. Reliable cloud infrastructure for developers and SMBs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luca P. | Chief Operations Officer DEQUA Studio | Formerly CTO in MarTech, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 04, 2025

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

DigitalOcean delivers a robust suite of cloud infrastructure products tailored for developers, startups, and SMBs.

The platform stands out for its intuitive user interface and predictable pricing model, which simplifies resource management and cost forecasting. Key features include Droplets (scalable Linux-based virtual machines), a fully managed Kubernetes service with a free control plane, and an App Platform for rapid deployment of web applications and APIs using PaaS principles.

It supports managed databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Kafka), object storage (Spaces), and block storage. Recent additions like GPU compute options (via the Paperspace acquisition) and GenAI Platform for building and deploying AI agents expand its capabilities for machine learning and generative AI workloads.

The API ecosystem is comprehensive, enabling automation and integration across a range of programming languages. One-click app deployment (e.g., WordPress, Docker) and clear documentation further streamline the developer experience.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

While the overall experience is streamlined, I find that advanced configuration options can be limited in some managed services, particularly within the App Platform. Customizing deployment environments sometimes requires restarting instances from scratch, which may result in lost changes if not managed carefully. Additionally, migration to other public clouds is not always straightforward, and the process can be confusing or restrictive in certain scenarios.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DigitalOcean has enabled us to quickly provision scalable infrastructure for both experimental projects and production workloads. Its reliable uptime, clear billing, and fast setup have reduced operational overhead and allowed us to focus on application development rather than infrastructure management. The platform’s API and automation capabilities have been essential for integrating with CI/CD pipelines and managing deployments efficiently. Managed services, such as databases and object storage, have minimized the need for manual maintenance and improved data reliability. Overall, DigitalOcean has provided a dependable foundation for web hosting, application deployment, and cloud-native development.

  ### 9. User-Friendly Onboarding, but Some Docs Need Simplifying for Beginners

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2025

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

Easy onboarding, services that are easy to use and plenty of documentation.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

Some services don't offer documentation understandable to beginners.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I deployed a complex application that integrates an IoT device with 2 blockchains, and I needed a platform where I can set up all services I need and deploy my app - so I set up a MQTT broker, a secure container, a database and my application. It was the first time I ever did this myself, and it was fairly easy and straightforward.

  ### 24. Best affordable Cloud Provider

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kenneth K. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 18, 2025

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

I'm working on a startup together with a friend. We haven't gone live yet, but I feel compelled to give an honest review of DigitalOcean after having used their droplets for almost 4 months now.

Well, just like most startups, we have a tight budget yet need massive resources to run a video sharing MERN app.
We first tried AWS, but that was way out of out budget. After a lot of research, we came across DigitalOcean, tried their droplets for three months using their free trial and haven't looked back.

What I love most is how easy it is to manage our kubernetes cluster without worrying about how much we'll pay at the end of the month. All we needed to do is select how many droplets we needed based on number of vCPUs, RAM, and disk storage, and we're guaranteed to pay only for those droplets . The only other cost is space storage, persistent storage, and load balancer, all of which are also so easy to estimate and cheap.

Their customer service is also really good, and they'll respond even during weekends. But you have to be very clear on what you need help on so they can assist you with the fewest number of messages since they do not respond immediately. But they also offer premium customer service options if you need immediate responses.

Another option is BobCares, which they do promote on their site also. It's a third-party customer service for kubernetes which I've used before and didn't like it at all. First, they're pretty expensive - about $99 per hour - and you're not guaranteed they'll solve your issue. Second, you have to give them access to your kubernetes cluster, which could be a potential source of a security breach for your cluster.

For someone who didn't know how to spin up a kubernetes cluster from scratch for a MERN app, I'd say choosing DigitalOcean was my best decision ever. I have control over everything and have an amazing group of specialists waiting to help any time I get stuck.

Their online publications are also super helpful and very well documented. I can't talk much about their DigitalOcean managed kubernetes (DOKS), but if you're looking to spin up a kubernetes cluster from scratch inside droplets, you'll need their CSI driver, which is just as easy as copying and pasting it from their Github.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

The only negative experience I've had is in setting up firewall for my droplets using their firewall dashboard. I noticed that anytime I could add firewall rules, my site got really slow. I'm not sure why and didn't bother asking them so I can't blame it all on them. I went for the alternative of setting up firewall using iptables, which works fine now. I honestly can't think of any other negative experience.

Since I'm using Droplets rather than their managed kubernetes service (DOKS), most of the issues I come across are things I can solve since I have control over the entire kubernetes set up. That's why it's kind of difficult to address any negatives; I can't fault them.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DigitalOcean is making Cloud services cheap and accessible to low-budget companies and startups. It's impossible to host a startup on AWS, GKE, or Azure without breaking your bank. And best of all, they've simplified it so much that you don't need to spend days learning or having to hire a cloud engineer, which is also an additional cost.

**Official Response from Faiza Zia:**

> Hi Kenneth,

Thank you for your fantastic review! We're thrilled DigitalOcean's Droplets and clear pricing have been ideal for your startup's Kubernetes needs, especially on a budget. We appreciate your feedback on our customer support and are glad our documentation was helpful. We'll investigate the firewall issue you mentioned. We're proud to provide accessible cloud solutions for startups like yours and wish you the best for your launch.

If you are still facing issues with firewall settings then we request you to please submit a ticket for our support team to assist you with your concern.

Maybe not the best option for large-scale applications or product-specific solutions.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

DigitalOcean helps me deploy applications fast and effortlessly, with predictable pricing.

  ### 27. Great and simple to use cloud provider

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vasilis "Tzikis" G. | Chief Technical Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2025

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

It strikes the best balance of provided services and low complexity for SMBs. We don't have dedicated SREs, we don't wanna spend countless hours setting up IAMs, dozens of configs just to do the simplest of things, or trying to figure out what services is the best.

If you're looking for simple to use and straightfoward servers, DBs, containers, DNS management, S3 buckets, etc, the Digital Ocean is a great solution.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

We would like juuuust a tad more permission management, specifically giving people permissions on a project-based level, so that we can isolate between prod and dev.

But as I already mentioned, we appreciate the simplicity and straight forwardness of DO, so I'd rather use what they have right now.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it as a simple but fully featured PaaS and DBaaS platform, along with S3-compatible file storage. It's way simpler than other alternatives, and the pricing is straightforward and simple.

  ### 28. Effortless Simplicity with Full Functionality

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2025

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

Simplicity without loosing the functionality. Integration is also a standout.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

Nothing really other than it would be helpful to have a footprint in South Africa.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Application hosting. I'm currently building and testing AI agents using N8N on a number of droplets. The end goal is to move proven agentic workflows to the DigitalOcean Agent platform.

  ### 29. Solid reliable cloud services with great value

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vince C. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2025

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

I've been with DigitalOcean for almost 10 years and extremely happy with their services, which don't overwhelm you with options and are a great value. Customer support when needed is excellent and they have lots of self-help support in the form of how-to documents and examples.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

So far I have no complaints, they meet my needs perfectly. If I was with a larger Enterprise or government Institution they might be a harder sell as they don't have the same credibility as a Microsoft or Amazon, but for what most people need digital ocean is great.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solid reliable Cloud compute services which can be deployed quickly at a very reasonable cost.

  ### 30. Fantastic and stable product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Filipe V. | Full Stack Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2025

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

I really like they are predictable regarding the pricing and offers stable products that have zero downtime. I am a client over more than 10 years and only had positive interactions with their support team and product. Zero headaches and awesome performance.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

In the past they only offered droplets which was kinda limiting, but now they offer a wide array of services so I don't think there's anything that I dislike about it.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I need to host several sites and APIs and I do that using Digital Ocean Droplets + Ngnix and Docker. It works like a charm and never had issues with the box.

  ### 31. Ease of Use that Facilitates Daily Life

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rodolfo S. | Fundador e CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2025

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

The platform stands out for its simplicity of use and offers an adequate infrastructure for building agents.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

there could be regions in Brazil. In the northeast, there must be many incentives using renewable energies, such as solar and wind.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

rapidly develop AI solutions to validate the business model.

  ### 32. High value for the price, and their customer service is good. They added PaperSpace (GPUs for AI)

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephen Douglas S. | Founder, Health, Wellness and Fitness, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2024

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

The value for the price, and their customer service. The control panel / UI is easy to navigate. I have Digital Ocea to manage some Docker packages, including my web hosting service. I more recently started to explore the deployment of some AI platforms, but I'd rather purchase my hardware to develop in-house, and then deploy to the Cloud when it is production ready.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

Their offerings don't compare to something like AWS, but for small and medium-sized businesses they have a nice platform that keeps improving.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do not have the resources to purchase high-end equipment yet. It is somewhat easier and overall probably safer to keep my data in the Cloud for now. I am using it as a hosting service also for web and web app development, and I am motivated to look into AI applications now.

  ### 33. Excellent Support When You Need It

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2025

**What do you like best about DigitalOcean?**

Good technical support when needed if you have any issues.

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**

We use shared droplets, as the cost of the dedicated ones are too costly.

**What problems is DigitalOcean solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We run a hosting company and they provide us with servers so that we can provide that server.

  ### 34. My point of view on digital ocean as product

**What do you dislike about DigitalOcean?**
