"After 16 years of use, it's easy to recommend DevExpress."
5/5
What do you like best about DevExpress?

The quality of the WPF controls - which I use - is outstanding. In the past I have had to create custom controls (i.e. a multi-columned TreeView) in order to satisfy the requirements of our customers. Fortunately with DevExpress, this control already existed and it was easy to transform our flat custom data into hierarchical data, which can easily be consumed by the control.

I personally am unable to assess the quality of other suites (i.e. WinForms) but we do have another developer who uses that suite and I believe, apart from the odd support ticket, that person is more than happy.

What is really helpful is the demo which accompanies the product. This not only provides inspiration for new ideas (which you might not have previously considered) but also with the code so you can browse through it. In addition, you can open the demo projects in Visual Studio as well.

The support is outstanding – you either receive a code snippet providing a solution or, if you take the time and provide a sample project, you will most probably receive a modified version of your project back. Not only is the support outstanding, they are also friendly and have never given the impression that you should already know something or that you’re wasting their time. This cannot be stated enough. What do you dislike about DevExpress?

With regards to the MVVM framework: As soon as DevExpress added the POCO view models, I feared that this was the only option they were going to support going forward but it looks like the standard MVVM will always be supported. One downside that we have encountered is that the younger developers have seen the POCO view models and gone with that route which is fine, until they encounter issues and, having not fully understood what’s going on in the background (a lot of code is generated automatically) they sometimes struggle with the problem at hand. That however is not a fault of DevExpress, it has more to do with the fact that we ourselves have not laid our which way we want to use their framework.

One thing that I don’t like is the fact that the WPF Dashboard Viewer is not part of the WPF suite, you have to purchase a universal license for this. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"The best 3rd party components suite I've worked ever"

What do you like best about DevExpress?

The most I like are Desktop components, CodeRush, Reporting and Dashboard. And, of course, their excellent support team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DevExpress?

New project and object templates. I prefer to start from scratch. Some Visual Studio extensions I need to disable (too many extensions enabled by default). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Good experiance, with competent support team"

What do you like best about DevExpress?

A very extensive and goood product suite with seriusly capable support team to back it up.

We recently had an issue where, in our software, the reporting engine failed.

DevExpress assisted in all possible ways, even so far as to reviewing our code and finding the issue.

The exchange was pleasant, very professional and always on topic.

We even found a minor improvement in the DevExpress ReportDesigner. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DevExpress?

On occasion, and only under certain circumstances, the components can bring overhead. But a multirole component can't be slim. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"One of the Best"

What do you like best about DevExpress?

DevExpress Ultimate provides the tools for the rapid development of applications. You can spend months trying to build your own components which may or may not work - or use one of the best in the industry and get your product into the market. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about DevExpress?

As for a component provider, they cover most of the bases needed. I think the only area that is slightly slower in terms of development is their Xamarin controls which could be a bit broader, but the ones they have are solid. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
