Over the years the product has grown considerably and the UI is very intuitive. The support Devart provides are quick to respond and very professional. A well polished product and can recommend 100% **What do you dislike about dbForge Studio for MySQL?** I have used redgate toolset bundle before and I do like the way the Redgate UI warns you which database you are changing. Devart does show you this but it seems Reedgate UI is slightly better in this regard. You can imagine the nightmare of having data structures without auto-incrementing fields for primary keys! dbForge saved me! Sure, it was a lot of work to put things back together, but by using the dbForge comparison tools to compare a copy of our database structures to the restored copies of the structures, I was able to put some scripts together that allowed us to recreate the keys, update the data that been enetered by users after the crash, and bring everything back up to snuff. ### 9. I've been using it forever, and I think it's perhaps one of the best free pieces of software on the planet given what you can do with it. I like MSSQL/SSMS so much, and I'm so stubborn, that I stupidly connect to MSSQL when I am doing PHP pages. I took on a new client recently, and they are a MySQL shop, so I had to find a tool where the learning curve wouldn't waste a lot of my time. I have used the MSSQL version of dbForge Studio in the past, so when I realized they offered a MySQL version, I decided to give it a try. For me, dbForge Studio for MySQL is easily the closest in terms of look and feel to SSMS. I was able to install, connect to the sandbox they gave me, and dive right in. I was a little embarrassed about my lack of MySQL skills, so in about 30 seconds dbForge Studio was able to copy my sandbox DB over to a local MySQL server I set up so that I could play around with it and learn the nuances of MySQL over MSSQL. I love being able to completely copy a database from one server to another with a few clicks, which makes it super quick to keep my dev environment in sync with the live database. The code completion feature is so much quicker than SSMS, I love that you can set the delay, and it saves me a lot of typing in addition to keeping the case consistent within my SQL. The Visual Studio Blue makes it feel like I'm working with my old friend SSMS. The ability to mark different databases with shapes and colors is a thoughtful feature and reduces the chances of accidentally making a change in live instead of dev. The data generation feature is nice as well, as you can generate a lot of test data quickly. Also, one of the best features is the automated code formatting command (CTRL-K, D), which takes my sloppy, ill-formated SQL and turns it into beautifully formatted SQL. You can also easily output data to all kinds of formats including Excel, Sheets, csv, xml, etc., and save templates so that you can quickly generate the same reports. I ended up liking MySQL/dbForge Studio so much that I'm going to use MySQL as my go-to database technology on my projects going forward. **What do you dislike about dbForge Studio for MySQL?** The "Edit View" feature is a little clunky--you cannot edit SQL directly in the SQL tab, and when you try to do it in the Query Text tab, it constantly throws errors as you type. Sometimes you just need to do a quick edit to a view and it's a bit frustrating to deal with. I found myself opening up a new SQL window, copying my code, pasting into the new tab, modifying and copying back to the Query Text tab. There has to be an easier way. **Recommendations to others considering dbForge Studio for MySQL:** I tried all of the other similarly-priced competitors, and dbForge Studio for MySQL was the easiest transition from SSMS of them all. I was able to start producing results immediately instead of learning a new tool. You also have the fact that for $230 you only get the license for one user and in order to automate exporting reports this must be installed and activated on our server, it would be nice if there was an export only implementation where you could view reports instead of design them. **Recommendations to others considering dbForge Studio for MySQL:** If you are looking to implement rich text reporting and exporting make sure to check these are now available. It's best asset is making MySQL easy and efficient. I cannot tell you how many times I've used the export and import wizard to load every kind of file, and it's all there, and in the right spot. Same with the Database Explorer - I can name connections, and color code them for production, test, and anything else. It's exactly as I would want it to be, and it just makes MySQL that much easier to work with everyday. **What do you dislike about dbForge Studio for MySQL?** it's not spectacularly fast on startup. Not really that big of an issue, but it takes a little bit to popup, which also might be all of the databases I have configured. It just takes time to verify connections, but it is my slowest app to popup when clicked. **Recommendations to others considering dbForge Studio for MySQL:** If you want to tool that is stable, and makes administration and daily MySQL tasks easier, then I would definitely put dbForge on your list. I can manage multiple databases, and have a visual indicator for production vs. stage. We do a lot of importing/exporting in various format, which dbForge handles really well with lots of data into lots of different formats. I think the biggest benefits are being able to modify tables, stored procedures, events, and basically any object without having to go through 25 screens or command lines. I use it in a limited manner so I don't have a full view of the entire application. Schemas comparison is really great, it's very easy to compare and directly synchronize tables, indexes, triggers and any objects in the databases. But if I had to pick, probably the DB compare features that can come in so handy, but let's not forget the "search" function that can search your whole database for some content, very handy when reverse engineering software. Other than that, the GUI is very neat. It's very streamlined with in-place edit everywhere. The query maker is one of the bests I've seen, probably THE BEST actually. The refactoring is really nice (only product I know with refactoring), and it really works, including with foreign keys... And last but not least, I've submitted quite a few features request over the years and all were accepted and done! You can work on multiple servers and databases at the same time, it's fast and effective. The schema and also the data compare feature are very useful. I love to generate schema, script and a backup of my data. Useful for dev ops, you can execute query (sql query can be auto formatted), debug them, you can also create snippets or create database schema showing all the tables and the relations. It's really easy to administrate the right of the users for the mysql host. You can extract data from the server and generate some fancy charts. It's easy to create some jobs like backup the database, just create the job in the wizard and save it. **What do you dislike about dbForge Studio for MySQL?** The connection information is saved in the registry, so if you change your computer you have to find the registry key, export them and import them, it's painful.
