I can move fast and leverage all of Excel's features without being hampered by limitations of other software that tries to duplicate Excel but can never quite get there. DataRails is simple enough that I don't need to waste money on expensive professional services. File management, where every version of a file is saved and tagged automatically for the correct financial period, has turned out to be one of the most underrated features. My budget owners find the weirdest ways to mess up their file or lose data, but with DataRails, I never lose their template and prior work. We have been able to do more in five months on DataRails than five years on our last software. **What do you dislike about Datarails?** Exporting large volumes of data or directly integrating to BI tools like Tableau could be improved. Permission management is time consuming and highly detailed. After you learn the new forumuals and how information is tied in, its relatively easy to create or adapt existing reports from excel. We also have very good customer support to help us walk through issues along with mentoring from the sales group. **What do you dislike about Datarails?** Sometimes when attempting to build new dashboards it's hard to tell which fields to drag in, and which fields to exclude. You can spend a long time dragging and dropping fields in and out of the field picker to figure out which ones work and which ones do not work. It is a very good tool for Budgeting, Consolidation & Variance Analysis. FX currency conversion to USD Consolidated reporting is a great feature with the flexibility to review reports in both the functional & reporting currencies. It is easy to drill down to the the source data to analyze the transaction details. Different reporting formats are available - dashboards, storyboards, report builder - though these are extremely useful, but the initial setup & learning requires time; once created & developed by the CSM. it is very easy to modify filters & drill down to create pivots and analyze the data. Ari Ben Zoor is our CSM and he was also the lead during the implementation & workspace setup. He is extremely diligent, dedicated & passionate about his work and has the required technical skills & beyond, to resolve any queries we have, and always offers alternative solutions that work. He always responds promptly (even on weekends & after hours) and takes the time to understand our business reporting needs. We are grateful to have Ari on our team and he deserves all the credit for the successful use of Datarails at our company. **What do you dislike about Datarails?** Data refresh can be slow; at times technical errors occur due to R&D updates at the back end - hence user needs to regularly validate output reports to ensure accuracy (though this does not happen frequently); There should be built in integrity checks before rolling out the updates; also alerts on any updates should be sent out to customers, specifying what areas should users be reviewing closely to ensure nothing is broken; creating new reports from scratch is not an easy task & cannot be done without the initial support & involvement of the CSM. This makes getting the data you want very easy, while also giving you the entirety of the Excel formatting options. DataRails language for queries is also very intuitve making learning to use the software an easier task than other softwares which require SQL. **What do you dislike about Datarails?** DataRails does not pull live data, it pulls data at a set time every day for the time frame that you dictate. The ability to create a single PowerPoint presentation for departments or businesses and simply refresh the charts and tables each month without cut and pasting. Having the same person in customer support to reach out to when you have questions or issues. I cannot emphasize enough how helpful this is: you won't be stuck with a rigid platform that cannot accomodate data from various sources or structures. Datarails is flexible and can truly handle EVERYTHING you throw at it! 2) Beautiful and easy-to-use dashboards bring data to life. They have a large variety of pre-built dashboards so once you get your data into the system, you will be up and running in a matter of minutes! Our CEO and CFO love the dashboarding capabilities and it's made my life SO much easier not having to run gigantic financial packages manually every month. 3) The support is next-level. A lot of other FP&A tools will tell you that 'the support at a small company like datarails' is lacking but that myth is total BALONEY. Whenever I have had a question, the support team has a crazy-fast response time and our implementation partner would always make time to jump on calls to help us out. 4) Lastly, there's a lot of room to submit your feedback and the platform is constantly being upgraded. It may not have every niche feature you want, but you're going into a software that is constantly getting better and better and your feedback is taken into account. I use datarails EVERY DAY and I love it. Implenentation was relatively straight and easy and it continues to power our business to better results. **What do you dislike about Datarails?** 1) This is a strength and weakness of the product. The investment into learning the ins and outs of the system can take some time (as with anything), but once you've learned the 'flow' of datarails it will work well for you. 2) I would say the budget workflows and manual reporting workflows need a bit more work. The team that helped me get up and running didn't hesitate to teach me how everything worked so I could learn the system and fly on my own wherever possible. **What do you dislike about Datarails?** My initial setup process was slower than I was hoping, but I was asking for an aggressive implementation time frame. I was directly in the middle of a Datarails restructure that actually made Datarails much more responsive and sped up the process to get the system up and running; so, I think my initial frustrations were resolved already. **What problems is Datarails solving and how is that benefiting you?** This makes our company budgeting process weeks faster. We make the budget templates very quickly, diseminate them nearly instantly, and then the focus becomes the quality of the data the contributors put into the templates. I have also had some frustrations with lack of support to solve my immediate needs. While the CSM was out the last few weeks, which I was unaware of, my only option has been emailing back and forth with Datarails support, or links to articles that didn't really answer my questions. Datarails is supposed to save me time, not waste it right? Part of the process involves consolidating the entities and pulling the data out of QBO. DataRails helped that process with the creation of a mapped chart of accounts to tie the fincials together and seemlessly pull the information in from multiple sources. The use of DataRails Excel plug-in allowed for free form reporting that could be refreshed as needed with relevant information and allowed for drill down to see the underlying information. Once set up and in place, DataRails saved a number of man hours that could be better used on strategic initiatives. The implementation team provided fantastic customer support. **What do you dislike about Datarails?** It is not an out of the box solution that can easily be set up on your own. The set up is involved and took some time to understand the construct and layout of the data being brought into DataRails. First, it allowed me to map out our financial statements in excel and with a push of a button I could get real-time up-to-date financial information in my financial statement format for either a month, quarter or in a yearly format. This made closing the books seamless and less time consuming. Secondly, it has helped with creating a financial forecast so I can predict into the future of where we were headed by combining our accounting system (Quickbooks) and our forecasting software (Monday.com) to provide meaningful information if which we could make timely and important decisions. **Official Response from Anouk Amar:** > That's the motto - Excel is irreplaceable! The ability to refresh data live from a VERY old ERP that has almost no reporting capabilities has been instrumental in our ability to grow and frankly survive the demands of ownership to explain the "why" behind the numbers. **What do you dislike about Datarails?** We would really like to see some predictive analytics come in to play that go beyond what we would have to craft in Excel. This freedom definitely allows us to leverage native Excel skills, but for us, as we've grown in the number of retail locations that we have to manage, building forecasts and/or assumptions within Excel for 400+ locations becomes less efficient as the Excel file size leads to instability. We also have SO much historical and transactions level details that our refresh times do tend to run longer than we would like. **What problems is Datarails solving and how is that benefiting you?** Although we haven't had to opportunity to roll out and leverage Datarails to assist with our accounting close, that is our plan. We have been able to leverage DR primarily for the budgeting process. DR's tools made a number of require last minute changes actually possible. Last year's budget would have quite literally either been impossible from a due date standpoint or would have required staying at the office overnight. We've also utilized DR for monthly internal and external reporting.
