"Familiar for Years, but Core Brightspace Updates Feel Overshadowed by Add-Ons"
3/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

It is a familiar platform that we have been using as an institution for over 15 years. I like that there have been improvements to the assessment tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

The downsides of the system are that most of the product development focus is on additional features that we do not have in the Brightspace Core package. I'd like to see continued development in the core product in addition to the add-on's. It seems like every update that comes out is for something that is not in our contract (Lumi, Performance Plus, Creator+, Analytics, etc.) I wish there were more options for AI in the core product as well. "Powerful, Easy-to-Use LMS with Game-Changing Audio and Video Tools"
4.5/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

D2L Brightspace is a powerful LMS that has evolved into an easy to use and engaging tool for educators to provide online learning experiences for students in k-12. I have been involved with D2L for almost 20 years. I love the advancements in audio and vidoe tools which are game changers and am excited to explore Lumi. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

D2L is almost too comprehensive. It has so many tools and great features that it can seem overwhelming to new users. The integrations with Respondus, Wayground and Canva are sometimes glitch and should be refined. D2L is rarely down and is quickly repaired. AI tools look a bit rough so far but are exciting. Finding the best ways to get support can be challenging. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Highly Customizable LMS with Stellar Student Experience"
4.5/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

I find D2L Brightspace incredibly valuable for its wide range of features and the level of customization it offers. It serves as a comprehensive all-in-one course platform, allowing for assignment submissions, quizzes, and interactive student experiences, which are key to improving the overall student experience. The platform's commitment to accessibility and continuous improvement, along with its clean visual design, really stands out to me. I appreciate the depth of features, especially within quizzing and assignments, allowing for a lot of customization to suit our needs. The ability to assign specific deadlines and access periods to students or groups is great, and it easily facilitates accommodations for students. Furthermore, the integration with our website for seamless user login and automatic course enrollment works really well now, streamlining our processes. The initial setup was easy, thanks to the support from a dedicated customer service rep who guided us through everything. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

With the amount of features and the level of customization it can produce comes a pretty good learning curve, there are nuances and quirks to understand. I would say that it is more complex than our previous learning management system, although that complexity ends up being a good thing for the quality of the final product that you can produce. "Intuitive Course Design with Outstanding Support"
5/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

I love the control D2L Brightspace gives me as an admin, especially how it lets me fine-tune roles and permissions, unlike other LMSs I've worked with. Although I'm not a course designer, I appreciate the Lumi AI tools, which are a huge time saver. With the Lumi Pro suite in our Brightspace site, I'm able to build content, like modules, quizzes, and assignments, using external files much faster. The Lumi Quizzes can automatically generate banks of quiz questions, which saves a lot of time. Also, Lumi Feedback ensures students receive curated feedback on their submissions based on instructor-provided rubrics faster than they normally would. I'm also grateful for D2L's implementation team, who, despite having many meetings, ensures that our institution's Brightspace team is totally aligned and clear on all things related to its implementation. And I appreciate that D2L listens to their customers and is providing a much-needed makeover to the Learning Object Repository system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

There are some admin features where certain things are located among their 'admin tools' that are sometimes not really intuitive. Either where they're located or how you manage them. I find the LOR (Learning Object Repository) to be pretty confusing to interact with and update content in. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Robust Platform with Integration Challenges"
5/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

I appreciate the consistency D2L Brightspace provides for all of our students, both online and lecture, accessing one system. It's great that navigating from one course shell to another offers the same experience for students, making it as uniform as possible while respecting faculty freedom. The ability to embed publisher content using deep linking tools and LTI integrations makes everything feel seamlessly integrated into the Brightspace environment. I'm very comfortable with D2L Brightspace because we've been using it for so long, and we've grown alongside it. Additionally, integrating with Harmonize provides a robust, interactive way for students to collaborate and discuss, which I wanted to note. Also, the initial setup was very easy for us, even though it was quite a long time ago. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

Getting data isn't always easy; it used to be simpler when we had a reports tool that was more accessible to non-coders. The current process of pulling data, especially with Big Domo and then into Power BI, isn't as straightforward. I'm also finding the data purge process challenging, as we don't have a good method for it yet, and it's something I'm working on. We've struggled with course templates not performing as expected, particularly when it comes to automatically pulling data and content to the course offering level. Similarly, using the outcomes tool effectively has been a challenge, and we're hoping the new tools might be easier to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Flexible and Robust, Needs Some Improvement"
4/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

I like the API in D2L Brightspace as it certainly makes my job easier to create and maintain our suite of courses. From a participant's perspective, the structure of course content, broken down by modules and topic pages, is the best part, alongside the flexibility of the types of course content available. I also appreciate the seamless management and administration of courses, which is a big help given our small team. The development of several automated tools using the Brightspace API makes tasks like generating course pages, managing user enrollment, and fetching metrics from Datahub data sets much simpler. What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

One area that could be improved for us is the Course Merchant system. We recently introduced the storefront to allow for participants to enroll in our courses on-demand. This has mostly worked well for us, but as we look ahead to offering more courses via the storefront and receiving new requirements for who can enroll, there are some pain points that Course Merchant cannot handle, and so we've had to resort back to a manual enrollment process for these courses. "A Reliable LMS with Room for Enhanced Interaction"
4.5/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

I appreciate how D2L Brightspace releases new features, like Lumi, and there's been a strong effort to release features that users have requested through PIE. The staff took the time to review my PIE submission, addressed what I considered a bug, and planned it as a feature fix in the next update, which made me feel valued as a customer. I'm excited about Lumi as a built-in AI tool and its continuous improvements, like Lumi Remix and Custom instructions in Lumi Idea. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

I would like an improved discussion experience. Adding in special access, allow students to more easily respond via voice or video threads. A redesign of the discussion board similar to Padlet, or better integration with Padlet. Some kind of internal social media, chatroom that could be used for students to connect with one another. "Flexible, Customizable LMS with Smooth Integrations and Standout Support"
4/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

I like that D2L Brightspace has so many resources available to make the experience fit the various needs of different disciplines at the college. Not all of the departments need the same features in an online experience, but D2L does a really good job making sure that their features can cross those "boundaries" and be applicable across with the different functionalities available for group work, discussions, within quizzes, etc. I also appreciate that there is a certain level of "customization" available with the more recent update to the New Content Experience. That has made it much more streamlined and user friendly for our Students (even if faculty aren't quite as keen about the change - but that is just because the buttons moved around in some places). We also utilize a lot of the various partner integrations, so I appreciate that D2L makes it so easy to set those up. We rarely have any performance issues that are based on the D2L side of things for those - more often than not any of the problems with integrations are rooted in the third party provider. And, when those issues do come up, I really like how quickly and thoroughly D2L support looks into the problem. With other software companies I have felt like I wasn't being taken seriously, but I have never felt that way with D2L support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

I dislike that there are so many great new features that are coming out that aren't available to the core license. I also dislike that there are so many features on request in the PIE area that would be beneficial to SO many people but they aren't on the road map because of the heavy focus on AI. Now, I will say that I understand those tendencies. Revenue has to come from somewhere, and they can't just give high level features to everyone, adn, right now, AI is the hot spot for the tech world. I appreciate the answer in today's webinar that the team is at least investigating more on how some of those AI features may be able to be rolled out for the core package. "Highly Efficient for Course Management, Despite Dated Design"
5/5
What do you like best about D2L Brightspace?

I like D2L Brightspace for its clean layout, especially the announcements from my instructor, because I don't have to search for them. I find everything neat and functional, and I appreciate that it notifies me quickly whenever there is a change in grades or assignments. I also enjoy using the Virtual Classroom, preferring it to Zoom or Google Meet because there's less lag. The initial setup was quick, and I got the hang of it in a few days. Overall, it's very comfortable to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?

The design of the site looks dated at times, and I don't like how inputting an email doesn't bring up all the options for a name's email immediately / doesn't send to the right person. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
