**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

I love using Customer.io for our email marketing campaigns in the B2B service space, especially because its Design Studio is incredibly user-friendly and allows for a great deal of customization with design and animations, making our emails more engaging. Despite not being an email marketer, I find it simple to navigate and when I encounter any challenges, the help articles are just a search away. I really appreciate the quick view dashboards, which provide immediate insights into engagement metrics, such as click rates and undelivered emails, helping me easily report progress to my team leaders. The initial setup was simple, and it integrates seamlessly with other tools like Slack, which enhances our workflow by sending notifications when specific actions occur on our UI. Customer.io's simplicity, combined with its robust features like Design Studio, the ease of accessing help, real-time engagement insights, and integration capabilities, makes it an indispensable tool in our marketing strategy. Having used it at a previous company as well and seeing consistent positive outcomes only solidifies my confidence in it, making me rate it a 10 out of 10 and wholeheartedly recommend it to others.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

I experienced issues with Customer.io regarding nested JSON objects. Initially, we included nested JSON in our data attributes, but we had to alter this approach because we were unable to create segments or utilize those nested objects in Liquid within emails.

**What problems is Customer.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Customer.io's Design Studio to create engaging campaigns that encourage user action, and its ease of use and support helps me as a Product Manager. The quick view dashboards allow me to track engagement and report progress efficiently.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

I've been a loyal Customer.io user for several years now, and I continue to be impressed with their service. Recently, Customer.io proactively reached out to me and offered to upgrade my plan from "Legacy" to "Premium" - and amazingly, despite getting access to more advanced features, I'm now paying 30% less! I really respect them for this customer-first approach.

I'm particularly impressed with their Customer Data Platform solution, which allows seamless integration of various data sources into the CRM. This makes it incredibly easy to add new customers, generate events, and manage data flows. It's an excellent solution for technical marketing teams who want to maintain independence without constantly relying on IT resources.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

I'm looking forward to seeing continued development of the CDP capabilities. Specifically, Customer.io should consider adding device synchronization features - the ability to add, modify, and manage user devices would be a valuable enhancement to the platform.

**What problems is Customer.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Customer.io allows us to conduct communication in multiple channels: email / push / SMS. Thanks to the advanced features of this service, we can run Marketing Automation scenarios in the organization, such as: dynamic product recommendations, sending communications depending on user behavior and parameters, or special paths triggered by the backend of our service. If your company is data driven and you'd like to take advantage of that, customer.io is one of those tools that will allow you to get the most out of your data.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

Customer.io continues to impress me with how quickly it evolves. The platform now feels even more user-friendly, especially with recent improvements to the visual workflow builder — it’s smoother and makes building complex journeys faster. I really appreciate the expanded analytics and reporting options; they make it easier to see how each step of a campaign performs and to optimize in real time. The new message editor is also a great addition, giving more flexibility for personalization and testing. Combined with its solid segmentation and event-based triggers, it remains one of the most powerful tools for lifecycle marketing I’ve used. Integration with other apps is still seamless, and the overall experience keeps getting better.

Everything’s working great now — I don’t have any improvement suggestions at the moment.

Everything about the platform is straightforward and user-friendly. A fantastic new feature I love is the Design Studio, which makes it incredibly easy to create on-brand templates and ensures we consistently respect our graphic charter. It's a huge time-saver! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an efficient and reliable messaging solution.

While the platform is excellent, I'd love to see more robust and user-friendly tools for data management. Specifically, a simpler way to identify and delete obsolete or unused customer attributes would be a huge help in keeping our workspace clean and efficient.

Customer.io keeps getting better with every update. Beyond the flexible workflows, advanced segmentation, and seamless integrations I’ve always appreciated, the platform has recently added some really valuable features:

Smarter SMS & WhatsApp: We can now automatically handle SMS replies (like STOP/UNSUBSCRIBE or even custom keywords) and use branded domains for shortened links, which has improved both trust and engagement.

Better Scheduling: Newsletters can be rate-limited and delivered in each user’s local timezone, making campaigns feel more personal while protecting deliverability.

AI Enhancements: The platform now suggests descriptions for data attributes/events and even analyzes survey feedback with AI, which saves our team time and improves clarity.

Improved Analytics: The new deliverability dashboard gives detailed insights into engagement and inbox placement across different providers.

Modernized In-App Messaging: The upgraded in-app editor is much smoother and more powerful than the legacy version (which sunsets in 2026).

Overall, these updates show that Customer.io is not just keeping up with the market but pushing ahead. It’s become an even more complete and reliable platform for personalized, multi-channel communication.

While the platform is excellent overall, there are still a few areas where it could get even better:

Documentation depth: Some of the more advanced features (like AI tools, deliverability dashboards, or complex event/attribute setups) could benefit from more in-depth tutorials and real-world examples.

UI performance: The interface is powerful but sometimes feels a bit heavy or slow to load, especially when managing larger workspaces or big datasets.

Learning curve: With all the new features being added, it can take time for new team members to fully understand how to best use everything. A more guided onboarding or contextual help could smooth this out.

Pricing transparency: The platform is enterprise-ready, but clearer pricing tiers for scaling SMS, WhatsApp, and advanced analytics would make planning easier.

These are relatively minor compared to the value Customer.io provides, but addressing them would take the user experience to the next level.

I love Customer.io for its tremendous value for money, offering a comprehensive solution for omnichannel marketing that allows me to manage campaigns from a single hub. I deeply appreciate how it consolidates everything into one place, making management more straightforward and efficient. The standout feature for me is the robust workflow capability that transforms what used to be a manual process into a much quicker and more efficient one. This has significantly sped up the time it takes to set up campaigns, as it opens up greater flexibility to use different events and segments as triggers. It enables us to target more granularly and strengthens our marketing strategy. This functionality empowers us to implement our strategies effectively and achieve our objectives with more precision. Additionally, despite the medium difficulty in initial setup, the supportive and understanding customer service team resolved the setup issues rapidly, highlighting their excellent support quality.

Sometimes the platform is a bit buggy, especially when it comes to deleting specific data. I also wish that it was a lot quicker when it comes to showing analytics. And, yeah, I just noticed that it gets a bit slow when I have to work with large amounts of contact or email data.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

CIO is constantly coming up with new features/tweaking existing features to make it easy for someone with minimal CRM or coding experience to set up campaigns. One particular feature that i love using is the steps on in-app - previously we would have to create multiple in-apps and manually link them together, now everything can be done on the same screen.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

Really happy that my previous suggestion was taken into consideration, we now can see how many % of clients in a particular segment has already received more than 1 msg in the last 7 days. An improvement top of mind is - lets say today i want to send a broadcast to a list of audience - i want to e able to know before i hit send that x no. of clients wont receive this email because of the send limit rate. We can compulsory notification and optional marketing comms going out, compulsory notifications shouldnt be counted in send limit.

Managing email, SMS, push notifications, and in-app messages from one platform has eliminated the chaos of coordinating campaigns across multiple tools. Our customer journey flows seamlessly across all touchpoints.

I like the functionalities within the campaign manager in Customer.io and how easy it is to connect it with other tools. I appreciate its CDP functionalities and AI campaign analysis, as they were part of our decision to switch to a more innovative and future-driven software.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

I find the AI help chat not very helpful. It doesn't give me an answer if the question isn't formatted in a certain way. Also, during the initial setup, we encountered some issues or missing pieces in the documentation.

I use Customer.io for messaging our customers with its CDP functionalities and AI campaign analysis. It's more user-friendly and feature-rich compared to SAP Emarsys, allowing message segmentation and excluding options.

I like Customer.io for its very strong workflow engine. It's capable of creating automated and parallelly running campaigns, which we can use to target multiple products to our customers simultaneously.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

Customer.io does not have a very strong Salesforce integration. They require an additional license from Salesforce for the integration. Direct integration would have been better. Customer.io also does not have really good reporting on who clicked an ad and when. That's something we could improve upon.

Customer.io is our customer marketing engine, enabling omni-channel marketing through in-app and emails. It integrates with Segment for customer profiles, BigQuery for reverse ETL, and handles targeting with behavioral events, enhancing our marketing capabilities.

I really like the flexibility and the data set-up, and it’s great that there are no costly add-ons. The features are regularly improving, and the AI and chat support are very good as well. The liquid for personalisation is also very good. The A/B testing tool is very convenient.

I think Customer.io could be more logical and intuitive overall. A lot of the time there is a way to do what I need, but it’s often not very obvious how to find it or where to do it. That’s my number one issue with Customer.io.

I like how Customer.io allows us to manage different businesses separately, as each one is an instance, which helps keep emails organized and prevents them from mixing up. This organization aspect is really helpful. I also find it quite easy to use when creating a new campaign. Plus, being able to see the template before sending it is really helpful.

I think my main pet peeve is that it's complicated. Sometimes it's not easy to find a campaign or the specific email. The experience is intricate to review sometimes.

After a certain update they released, it became harder to edit an email template. The UI is annoying because you can’t see the changes you’ve made unless you click Save and then Done.

I like using Customer.io for its excellent speed in delivering communications. It's great how fast the platform shares the communication I want with our community. The initial setup of Customer.io was the best I've ever seen, with plenty of recorded and one-on-one sessions and superb support. I also appreciate the startup program onboarding despite not having to pay initially, and the regular emails from representatives checking if I have questions. Overall, it's been an amazing platform that provides everything I want.

It's very open - I have access to all of the data I could need and it's really simple to create new user attributes and custom events. The 'Design Studio' is one of the best email builders I've used - especially the ability to switch between visual and code view.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

Some of the in-platform reporting is a bit basic, though this can be compensated for by the data-out integrations.

**What problems is Customer.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our business deals with unique, 1-of-1 SKUs, which means a lot of off-the-shelf e-commerce solutions don't work for us. Customer.io allows us to very easily build our own solutions, without having to fit into their pre-determined ways of working, like other platforms.

I love that Customer.io gives me the freedom to automate tasks that our team used to do manually, which saves us a lot of time and effort. It brings both email and in-app messaging into one cohesive platform, simplifying our workflow significantly. I greatly appreciate how the support team was super helpful when setting everything up, even when the tasks we wanted to accomplish were a bit outside the normal use cases. Additionally, the ability to integrate with Salesforce is a huge plus, allowing us to streamline our processes and maintain a unified system. I find that Customer.io offers great value, especially after switching from more expensive solutions like HubSpot and Pendo that didn't meet our expectations. Given these benefits, I would highly recommend Customer.io and rate it a perfect 10 for recommendation.

Setting everything up the way we wanted took time and the setup process was a bit cumbersome.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

What I really like about Customer.io is its intuitive and user-friendly interface. It’s very easy to understand and navigate, which makes my daily work smooth and efficient. I also find it simple to train others on the platform, which is a big plus.

I appreciate the ease of implementation — for example, setting up admin passwords and making necessary changes is quick and hassle-free. The customer support team has also been very responsive and helpful whenever I needed assistance, which gives me confidence in using the platform. Additionally, the ease of integration with other tools makes workflows much more seamless, saving time and effort. I use this platform every single day.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

I rated Customer.io an 8 mainly due to recurring access issues. Even when we already have access, we often face problems logging in or navigating certain features. At times, resetting or setting a password becomes time-consuming because the system logs us out repeatedly, which delays our work. While the platform is otherwise effective, these access challenges impact efficiency and prevent a higher rating.

Customer.io is helping me by making tasks like creating and managing passwords very straightforward and quick. They recently released the Design Studio, which makes it much easier to have a consistent brand across all of our content and communications. Our designer was able to go in and redesign all of our emails, and I then recreated our email campaigns. Segmenting users is relatively easy as well, whether manually uploaded or automated. It was easy to learn and implement newer features, their customer support is always responsive, and it integrates well with the rest of our software stack. I use it multiple times a week and never run into any issues.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

One thing we are struggling with is targeting visitors to our site who have not signed up for a trial yet. We are only able to send communications to people with a User ID as of now, so we are having to use a different platform for those marketing efforts.

Analytics are a miss. The built-in reports feel shallow and it’s hard to answer basic questions without exporting. I end up doing real analysis in our warehouse or Amplitude. Journey and channel rollups are limited, time windows are rigid, attribution is pretty basic, and A/B test stats are thin. I just want queryable data and dashbaords I can trust inside the tool.

The straightforward setup process, despite needing some technical assistance and planning, was not overly complex and worked well with our requirements for sending communications. One standout feature is the ease of conducting A/B testing; this capability has significantly streamlined our testing processes, allowing for quick data-driven decisions in broadcasts. The recent introduction of live reporting on workflows is another highlight, providing real-time insights which are highly beneficial for monitoring and adjusting campaigns on the fly. Moreover, Customer.io consistently sends examples of potential use cases, which I find incredibly helpful for sparking new ideas and strategies. It ticks all our base needs smoothly, like:

3. Trigger-based emails based on in-product actions
4. Removing dead emails, spam-flaggers, and bounce recipients is very quick and easy with their filters and bulk actions
5. Having many different mailing lists that are manageable from a user-facing subscription center is so good
My engineering team never complains about setting stuff up to sync our product and Customer.io, which for me is like the most important thing.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

Sometimes segmentation logic can be frustratingly complex (particularly just a simple "date created" filter). I also wish Stripe's integration was easier to use rather than being a DIY webhook solution.

If there was a way to set a default for report time period, that would save me a click or two but I haven't figured out if that's available to me as a personal setting. It seems like the default is system wide and that's fine. I just need to discover settings more easily.

I dislike the email design feature. Throughout my experience, I've witnessed three different tool iterations for designing emails, none of which are compatible with previous versions. This inconsistency creates technical challenges akin to 'tech debt' from a marketer's perspective.

**What problems is Customer.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Customer.io simplifies setting up automations based on data, makes our CRM marketer-friendly, and helps us easily create automations between tools with journey builder and API. The simplicity and effective solutions provide great value for money.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

I appreciate Customer.io's capability to track user behavior, which allows us to gain a better understanding of our customers and their interactions with our platform. I also find the integration of email and in-app messaging incredibly beneficial, providing a seamless way to communicate with customers based on their actions. The ease of use and user interface of Customer.io stand out significantly; it is intuitive enough that you don’t have to be an engineer to use it, and it allows users to perform complex tasks like setting up conditional logic without the need for coding. This accessibility makes it straightforward to manage intricate email and user tracking operations. Overall, these features are essential in improving our customer analytics and engagement efforts.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

I found the setup process to be a bit challenging due to the documentation. The documentation was very verbose but lacked an easy way to quickly get started. Additionally, there were different libraries for different parts of the Customer.io platform, which confused me about which ones I should start with.

**What problems is Customer.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find that Customer.io solves tracking and customer behavior analysis, simplifying email targeting and allowing in-app messaging. It's user-friendly and eliminates the need for coding, making complex tasks accessible to non-engineers.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

I particularly appreciate the simplicity and clarity of the onboarding with Customer.io. Everything was well-structured and we had no problems setting it up. The platform helped us solve the issue of marketers being able to effortlessly create emails with drag-and-drop, especially for newsletter marketing. I find the stability of the software excellent, as there have been no outage issues for years. The various features like campaigns and newsletters are extremely useful, and we also use them extensively for tracking and synchronizing different data. The ability to segment customers and synchronize data with various ad systems is extremely helpful. The value for money is great, and the flexibility that Customer.io offers fits perfectly with our use case. I am also thrilled with the seamless integration with our frontend and backend systems, including our website and app.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

Currently, to be honest, I can't think of much. Possibly send in-app messages to anonymous customers, for example, to be able to use them for anonymous website users.

**What problems is Customer.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Customer.io for drag-and-drop email creation and campaigns, which simplifies newsletter marketing. The stability and simplicity of the software are impressive, with no outages for years. Additionally, it makes tracking and segmenting customers easier.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

It has powerful segmentation possibilities and the new email builder is very intuitive.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

I would not recommend customer.io unless you have a lot of developer support. I have used a lot of marketing automation tools (marketo, hubspot, mailchimp) and customer.io is by far the most complicated. It advertises having a snowflake and salesforce sync but you have to build out everything yourself. I was surprised by this especially for salesforce (Even hubspot is a click of a button). For customer.io I'm building out custom code for the sync and it still is very complex and limited. 

Furthermore, things like tagging UTM on a user profile involve liquid vs the easy tagging hubspot or marketo provide out of the box. 

Furthermore, customer support is almost non-existent. A few times during implementation it would have helped having a technical phone call but instead it was the CSM who had no technical knowledge relaying stuff to their team which seemed like an unnecessary step.

The goal of customer.io was to unite product and sales data together in a platform. It does do that after months of developer work and going back and forth on the setup. But other platforms can do that as well.

**What do you like best about Customer.io?**

Customer.io is a reliable and well-rounded ESP. They consistently introduce new features that help us scale as our company expands. One of the standout aspects is the event properties, which are more advanced than those offered by other ESPs I have used in the past. I also appreciate the creative studio, even though there are still occasional hiccups.

**What do you dislike about Customer.io?**

I believe Customer.io falls short in a couple of areas. First, the analytics and conversion tracking features are somewhat unreliable. I find it difficult to trust their conversion tracking, which means I often have to rely on manual segmentation to assess incrementality myself. Second, when building segments, I can't use existing segments as building blocks. While this might not seem significant at first, I really appreciated this capability when I used Iterable in the past. It made things much easier, especially when setting up suppressions, since I didn’t have to remember and add every relevant attribute and event each time.

**What problems is Customer.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed an ESP, and customer.io has proven to be a reliable choice. Over the past few years that I have used it, the platform has grown beyond just marketing applications to include transactional messaging and SMS features. I am particularly interested in exploring the SMS Response tracking, since tracking responses has been a challenge for me before. Because I use SMS to communicate with customers and gather their replies, having a way to confirm when a customer responds will make a significant difference.

This combination of an intuitive interface and reliable customer support significantly enhances my overall experience with Customer.io.

I find using the A/B testing feature in Customer.io challenging. I'm still trying to understand how to work with it effectively.

It’s quite technical overall, and building segments isn’t very easy to use (especially when cloning). On top of that, the e-mail designer is not very user-friendly.
