They give you a good OOTB model to allow you to capture various kinds of metadata. What's not included you can add based on your business needs. Workflows allow you to set up processes that match your use cases and ways of working. The number of support materials and coaching from Collibra is also pretty good. I like that they are moving in the direction of more machine learning. **What do you dislike about Collibra?** It can be confusing at times. Customizability is a double-edged sword as you are constantly second-guessing yourself and wondering if your changes or additions will cause unintended problems or conflicts later. We find ourselves wishing Collibra would be more prescriptive with some parts while allowing configurations where things don't fit our business. The licensing model charges each author, which discourages use of the tool. It would be better if we could allow anyone to contribute (in more ways than simply adding comments or running workflows) to attain true adoption and get the traction we need to be successful. The tool could be friendlier to business data stewards. **Recommendations to others considering Collibra:** Collibra is very flexible and customizable. I would recommend collecting a large number of use cases, prioritizing them, fully understanding Collibra's capabilities, and analyzing how the OOTB asset model can address these use cases. You may need to customize the model in some places, but I recommend utilizing what is available first, as some customizations may require rework later. I would also be very careful while working with different divisions within your company. You can choose to allow each division to scope their customizations so that they're only visible to them. Keep communication open to determine when it makes sense for different areas to customize versus using the tool consistently across the company. **What problems is Collibra solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is allowing us to centralize the documentation of our data ecosystem and make it transparent to all employees. People know that if you have questions about data, you don't need to ask around and hopefully find the person with the right tribal knowledge - we are offloading all of that into Collibra. We are also starting to take advantage of their data lineage and data quality components. ### 32. We've been working through the sales cycle for 8-10 months and Mike R. and Jason M. at Collibra have been extremely supportive and helpful throughout the entire process. Collibra University has a ton of value-added content too. It's also great to have various bootcamp and coaching sessions available. The Collibra Data Citizens forum has been a great place to connect with other Collibra customers and engage with the Collibra product marketing team in various ways via gamification. Flexibility with dashboards is also a great feature for targeting different personas, roles and groups. **What do you dislike about Collibra?** That we cannot move fast enough to realize the full benefits of Collibra! Configurations and customization can take a while to develop so it's recommended to have a solid plan and dedicated full-time staff allocated to setting up the platform. Having to use a separate workflow development application has its challenges too. I'd also like to see improvements with dashboard features and functionality. Dashboards are great to have but they are also limited in design capabilities. **Recommendations to others considering Collibra:** Make sure you have a solid organizational change management plan in place BEFORE starting your implementation. Leveraging a change management framework or model like Prosci/ADKAR will help drive engagement and adoption as well as help manage resistance. **What problems is Collibra solving and how is that benefiting you?** We partner with Collibra as part of our Enterprise Data Governance initiative. Collibra will be our hub that integrates with multiple data platforms throughout the entire organization. Our organization is very siloed in our data practices and replication of data is widespread. The platform itself is intelligent and very functional and they have wonderful customer service. We are currently expanding our usage of Collibra to include not only the Data Governance Center, but also Collibra Catalog including lineage. This will automate our metadata collection and lineage discoverability which will help us greatly in our governance journey. We are looking forward to having the vast new amount of metatadata and profiling about our environments without having to painstakingly manually input everything. **What do you dislike about Collibra?** The front end is a little clunky and difficult to "sell" to our business users despite the wealth of information held within. The search capabilities are also slightly lacking in the when somebody searches for a metric that is used commonly across the company, they end up seeing everything we have. I am sure that we could create some custom search functionality and/or use what Collibra offers in a better way, but given everything else we lose the time to do that. **Recommendations to others considering Collibra:** Feel free to ask them questions and to really leverage their team.
