cmBuilder.io Pros and Cons

I've been using CM Builder for just over a year now and have been incredibly impressed by its ease of use, graphics, paramtric resources and support from the CM Builder team. It has been game changing in terms of it's ability to integrate with Google maps and import 3D models to help stakeholders from all sides visualise construction methodologies and sequencing. It has become something I use everyday and I now try and integrate it into all of my projects. The CM Builder team have been incredibly supportive and responsive and helped develop training tailored to our organisational requirements thereby creating a really powerful tool that is extremely accessible for our project teams. CMbuilder is great for multiple reasons:

- Great for communicating ideas for everyone involved.

- Continuously being developed and improved with features you can ask for.

- Support from the team is clear and responsive.

- Easy to use and learn from the get go, fun to experiment with.

- Takes markups to the next level by being clear and in 3D.

- A wide range of resources and features you can add to make your site more detailed or come to life.

- Implements well with DroneDeploy, Revit models look good and work well.

- Mocking something up for a workshop is great for everyone to look at and consider things not thought about before with a 2D Markup, also good to snapshot images for site engineers to show workers, travel routes for truck drivers to deliver materials, for shareholders and owners to comprehend easier among many other use cases. There are some improvements that can be made to CMBuilder:

- Fair warning to anyone with poor internet or hardware, it may not function as well (CMBuilder is online so internet is required with good speed, the more you add the more pressure it applies to your PC, so make sure you have a good work laptop).

- Most features people would like are currently being worked on, (eg. multiple people working on one project, animation, visual change, etc.) just needs a lot of time to develop.

- The higher the tier for subscrption, the more you will get out of the program. One of the most vital features (requesting resources in a quick turnover time) is locked to the highest subscription, which might be difficult for some people/companies to pay for as it can be a bit pricey if you want this subscription plus more project space. With cmBuilder, project teams can easily create 3D representations of logistics plans and get insights throughout the construction lifecycle. The product is a gateway for project teams to be onboarded and trained on BIM/VDC on a project. It is easy to use and support is always available from the customer success team. I have been using cmBuilder for just over one year now. As a complete begineer to any sort of drawing package, I found the training and support offered by Javier, Pedro and Cal to be excellent. What I like best about cmBuilder is the support they provide. I have had multiple interactions with the company from support(Cal, Pedro,Javy), to resource modeling request, to them paying our company a visit while they were here in New Orleans, La. The upside of using cmBuilder is the software is progressive meaning, always making improvements to make our job more efficient. Also the cmBuilder team is always offering suggestions on workflows to make better presentations for our clients. The fact that's it's only internet based is the only thing I can think of as a hinderance. For some presentations where I don't have internet or cannot get a hotspot, it would be nice to run the software off my computer to show a client. Meanwhile my work around is to create videos and presentations ahead a time. A create smiliar command would be nice in the future but other than that I don't have any downsides to using cmBuilder. It's fairly easy to use and with the amount of webinars online and the support always willing to help it's impossible to not become at least intermediate using cmBuilder. cmBuilder greatly lowers the entry barrier for getting into 3D/4D logistics plans. They make it easy to build your plan from scratch and sequence it how you want to. I really like how I'm easily able to bring in drone maps and models to have accurate existing conditions to work off of.

Probably the best feature of cmBuilder is the resource library. They have a huge library of objects/vehicles/equipment/people/etc that you can easily place into your plan. Each resource is accurate to real life as well, enhancing the quality of your plan.

cmBuilder was much easier for us to implement than other 4D software that required a "tech ninja" to completely run it themselves. After a quick training session, we're able to get field superintendents making their own plans.

The support we get from the cmBuilder team is also incredible. Whenever I have any questions or issues, they are always very quick to respond and will help me out right away. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

While cmBuilder is quick and easy to use, it's technically quicker to just create a 2D plan in Bluebeam still. There are some people that will go for the "path of least resistance" and just make a 2D plan still. The value to get from a 3D plan greatly outweighs the time saved from a 2D plan though.
