  ### 22. Cloudera Data Flow(CDF) honest reviews

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aditya K. | Lead Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2022

**What do you like best about Cloudera?**

We are leveraging Kafka of Cloudera Data flow for streaming analytics. CDF provides us real time data which is critical for producing live dashboards and also the amount of data streaming (in petabytes) helps us to have CDF as one stop shop for live data analysis

**What do you dislike about Cloudera?**

Kafka of CDF although is scalable however it has a lot of lag problems and needs complex tuning. When the lag occurrs that is the current offset is more than consumer end offset, a lag in 6-7 figures can be seen that means the stale records reaches to around 1 million at times due to which the dashboard waits for latest data and it sometimes takes hours to fetch that and sometimes restart of service is also required to fix that

**What problems is Cloudera solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cloudera Data flow helps us to produce and consume millions of streaming records based on which our live dashboards as well as reports are created. CDF UI helps to manage the service easily as we do not have to login to the service each time we need to make configuration changes

  ### 23. Very robust and scalable application

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ishita G. | Senior Data Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 19, 2023

COD automates many of the tasks that are typically associated with database administration, such as provisioning, scaling, and monitoring.

**What do you dislike about Cloudera?**

Nothing as of now. Need to explore more.

**What problems is Cloudera solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using COD to store and analyze customer data. COD's security features are helping the company protect its customers' data.

  ### 26. CDF review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bidisha P. | Senior Speclialist (Vendor Master Data), Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2022

**What do you like best about Cloudera?**

Cloudera Data Flow(CDF) provides us a single platform for analysis of real time streaming data. We mostly use CFM, CEM to push agents data and Kafka to push live data which is then consumed by spark and after cleaning the financial reports are created.

**What do you dislike about Cloudera?**

Kafka which was earlier a part of CDP(cloudera data platform) has been moved to CDF which makes us buy a separate subscription and hence incur more costs to the project. This was a smart move by Cloudera to make more money but surely hurts us as the service that we used along with CDP now has to be purchased as it comes under CDF umbrella

**What problems is Cloudera solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reports creation
Data Analysis
Data Cleansing
Dashboards creation using Kafka messages
Intuitive UI which helps us configure and manage the services in one place

  ### 27. Amazing tool

  ### 30. Your powerful cloud machine

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vivek G. | Data Scientist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 23, 2022

**What do you like best about Cloudera?**

The only platform to analyze and process big data. It is useful for me for creating, channeling, and visualizing all types of structured and unstructured data. It is customizable and easy to use for anyone having little experience with cloud services.

**What do you dislike about Cloudera?**

Having its competitors like Kaggle and google collab pro, they all offer some attractive packages compared to Cloudera. Still, Cloudera has its benefits that others don't have like managing big data clusters directly from the browser etc.
Another disadvantage is Installation is a little difficult.

**Recommendations to others considering Cloudera:**

I recommend them to promote this product to college students in their early learning phase so they can explore the various services which helps them learning and manage big data in everyday life.

**What problems is Cloudera solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Used it for a personal project where we had to map transactions to a tag, and also we had to cluster similar transactions based on API calls. It greatly improved the latency during our test.

  ### 31. Cloudera to access hive data

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 10, 2022

**What do you like best about Cloudera?**

The best is for the leverage they provide
although there is no free version to use, you need to contact a vendor
support is excellent
it's only web-based and one can have a data warehouse here doesn't matter if it's for any scale company
I also like the LDAP authentication it provides as it won't require password to access your hive database

**What do you dislike about Cloudera?**

There is nothing yet I could say that I dislike something.
yes, a demo can be given to users to know how it can benefit them.
else everything seems good for me.

**What problems is Cloudera solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problem of connecting hive data which is big data to python script was solved by the Cloudera DB driver.
The Hadoop data is accessed by the driver use and it eventually helped in one of our projects
above is just one of the scenario

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Muhammad U. | Database Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Cloudera?**

The best thing about Cloudera Analytic DB is its purchasing process. It usually uses for HDFS clusters to store large amounts of data. After storing the data it provides very handy features to perform analytics on this data. It provides good replication as well as a data recovery mechanism. Cloudera has very good performance when it comes to data migration.

**What do you dislike about Cloudera?**

Overall my experience with Cloudera was good but there are few things that I think need to make them better. The log visibility feature needs improvements. Please make an easy interface as provide a little bit of extra description about logging. The second thing is that they increase costs constantly.

**What problems is Cloudera solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I solved data replication and data migration problems with Cloudera DB. They provide very detailed documentation about both of these processes. I never needed their customer support for any issue.

**Reviewed Date:** September 27, 2019

**What do you like best about Cloudera?**

We are doing a POC with Cloudera. From a technical implementation, upgrade, and administration of the platform is much easier than other technologies I have had to support. After our initial installation we have upgraded 3 times and the documentation provide almost brings you step by step and have not had any post upgrade issues.

  ### 49. Close to success

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2018

**What do you like best about Cloudera?**

Hortonworks two main pillars are HDP (Hortonworks Data Platform) and HDP (Hortonworks Data Flow). The former applies to the infrastructure required for building and deploying a data lake, and the latter is about ingestion, in batch or realtime.
Both HDP and HDF rely entirely on opensource projects, this is a distinctive point about Hortonworks.

**What do you dislike about Cloudera?**

As an open source project collection, it relies strongly on community activity. You still have the option to contract premium consulting or training services.
Altough it is quickly evolving into Data Science tools availability (eg. Tensorflow incorporate in HDP 3), it can be cumbersome from a developer transitioning from a traditional IDE, into the notebook vs. datalake metaphore.

**Recommendations to others considering Cloudera:**

Because of its open source platform. Make sure that it has the right integration into your current data field.

**What problems is Cloudera solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Typically it is used as an enterprise platform. There are very few companies that use it only departmentally. It solved the business problems of maintaining a pure open source Hadoop environment. It also solves for Disaster Recovery and Security. Hadoop was not designed for Security, but with Hortonworks Ranger and Kerberos, you can implement a world class security framework.

  ### 50. Cloudera Navigator

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Deepti A. | IAM / Security Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 16, 2018

**What do you like best about Cloudera?**

1) It is considerably a new technology which has a lot of scope in future. 2) It is mainly used for storing big data and processing of big data - this is what I like about cloudera! Last but not the least, it's open source - you don't have to pay anything. You just have to download and start using it!

**What do you dislike about Cloudera?**

To install and use cloudera Navigator, you must need a minimum of 16GB RAM and high processor in your Laptop/PC, this makes it difficult to use in normal PCs with lower configuration.

**Recommendations to others considering Cloudera:**

It's easy to use and it's open-source..meaning you don't have to buy. You can just download and start using it and I believe it solves your business problems!

**What problems is Cloudera solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One main business problem is big data. Companies want to store and process big data so they use cloudera navigator to store and process big data.
