A single solution that allows you to not only publish applications, but also virtual desktops. Being able to maintain applications and desktop images in one place takes the burden off other teams since they don't have to worry about thousands of individual application installations on endpoints. The fact that we can then provide access to our resources via Citrix to anyone with an internet connection means that no matter where you are, or how bad your connection is (ICA shines here), you will be able to access your corporate resources. This flexibility really allows employees to work how they want to work, which was extremely evident over the last two years when everyone started working from home. Apps: I like the performance aspect of Virtual Apps. We have applications that use 1 GB of RAM to load and the users may require upwards of 10 sessions. This would easily overwhelm the resources on the endpoint. We moved many shared Access databases to Virtual Apps. Like many companies, much of our workforce is remote. The performance is always the best possible experience for the user as the App server resides in the same data center as many of the databases or backend SQL/Oracle servers.

Desktops: Our desktop and enterprise support group does not have experience supporting Linux desktops. Therefore it has never been offered. We have instead offered Linux VDIs supported by a community-based support model. Its popularity has exploded with developers moving away from high-end desktops to Linux VDIs so they can develop in their native platform. It has also been excellent for users who have no Linux experience to learn Linux in their own containerized environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Citrix has a habit of changing the product names every few years. I started with Metaframe 1,8 and everything in-between. I thought Virtual Apps and Desktops was simple. DaaS sounds more like it focuses on Desktop virtualization. I wish Citrix would stick to a name. People call the product "Citrix" because that's the one name that hasn't changed."

Citrix has provided a lot of rapid innovation, however, there have been some serious defects that should have been caught in testing. We struggled with ghosted app sessions on 1912 CU2. Then we upgraded to 1912 CU4 which had a different defect, but the same result. We finally are stable on CU5. An enterprise such as ours has thousands of VDAs to upgrade. Citrix DaaS is a great add-on technology for delivering virtual applications and desktops to end-users. The use of HDX and adaptive transport make this technology a great choice when looking at high security and exceptional end user experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
