## Cinema 4D Reviews
  ### 1. Easy to Learn, Endless Possibilities

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ben K. | Freelance Art Director / Motion Graphics Designer, Design, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

Intuitive modeling tools are friendly for beginners. The UI is very friendly and customizable by the user or via built-in presets. Physical renderer can produce some spectacular results. Mograph toolset makes creating motion graphics and abstract 3D designs a breeze. Team Render is a nice feature that can help you harness all available CPUs on your network at render time. Lots of great plugins available to build on an already solid foundation. Compatibility with popular 3rd party renderers is great. Viewport speed and performance appears to be getting better and better.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

UV editing is a bit of a trial-and-error process. Texture painting and UVs end up being easier to tackle using a different application. Physical renderer is awesome but speeds could stand to be improved, particularly when working with in-camera motion blur or depth-of-field turned on.

**Recommendations to others considering Cinema 4D:**

Great software package for anyone interested in adding 3D to their workflow or skillset. Integration with After Effects gets better with each update of AE. The CineWare link isn't perfect but it's a great step towards a more seamless integration of two of the most popular applications for motion graphics design. Students should check out the education licensing option from MAXON. For freelancers or small shops, definitely give the evaluation copy a test run. As with any 3D software, there is definitely a learning curve, but for my money I'd say C4D is one of the easiest to jump into. On top of that, the training available and volume of free online tutorials for C4D makes it very easy to learn. In my experience many folks in the C4D community are happy to share their knowledge. Having a community of great folks out there willing to share tips and techniques is invaluable. You'll be able to get up and running in no time.

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to rely on the package to give me the tools I need to meet client demands and timelines. C4D provides flexibility in every stage of design and animation, and working with things like non-destructive modifiers helps keep me on time when dealing with last-minute client changes. I haven't experienced any catastrophic crashes or application errors so I feel like stability is a priority for MAXON. Reliable performance is highly important and C4D has provided that on many a late-night render sprint.

  ### 2. 3D Modeling in Cinema 4D

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cynthia Y. | Graphics Intern, Textiles, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

I use Cinema 4D mostly for modeling and texturing. The tools for modeling are intuitive and easy to use. I like the options I have for texturing and lighting. Having multiple views of my model on the viewport (without needing to switch between viewports) lets me work a lot faster.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

There's a bit of a learning curve and it's not easy to pick up compared to the Adobe design programs.

**Recommendations to others considering Cinema 4D:**

Definitely use a mouse when using Cinema 4D. The program also uses quite a bit of RAM.

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

3D models made from Cinema 4D look very professional.

  ### 3. Multifunctional program for all your digital designs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** JOSE RICARDO M. | Portrait and Fashion Photographer, Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

One of the things I like about the new version of Cinema 4D direct integration with After Effects. This link allows easy management of the two programs and gives you that plus when working. Also Lens Distortion Support enables you to easily generate a distortion profile for any image, You can also remove distortion for tracking and scene creation, reapply distortion at render time, and save lens settings for future use if you wish. they have been introduced to help you sculpt more easily. The Sculpt to Pose Morph feature automatically creates morph targets for each sculpt layer, which lets you quickly transition from character design to character animation.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

An unfavorable point for me is the cost of the program. Perhaps it is a bit expensive, but you simply have to give value to everything you can do with it

**Recommendations to others considering Cinema 4D:**

Finally I can add several virtues of the program, surely you liked:
1 Tumbling

2 MetaBalls

3 Animation Performance

4 Display Color Shader

5 Edge Detect Mode for Sculpting

6 DopeSheet Viewport Interaction

7 Zoom To Cursor on F-Curves

8 Restrict Sculpting Falloff Based on Surface Distance

9 New Mesh Detection Mode

10 Switch Render Settings

11 Expanded Renaming Tool

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The benefits of having a working tool in which you can solve multiple problems giving several solutions with their element. Shortly manage the program may account for the scope of this product and finished loving it

  ### 4. Incredibly user friendly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kevin G. | Motion Designer, Media Production, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

There is always a combination of tools for an elegant solution. Morgraph is so incredibly powerful, flexible, and has few limitations. There are also a host of 3rd party plugins that take the already awesome capabilities to another level.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

Material node workflow for standard render. I also think there is room for Maxon to improve viewport performance especially when there are many objects on screen.

**Recommendations to others considering Cinema 4D:**

Check and see what plugins are available. Lots of 3rd party renders co-exist with C4D quite well.

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to hit really tight deadlines because I can count on C4D having the right tools for almost all challenges.

  ### 5. Freelance designer, using C4D since 2013

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maryline R. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

You literally do ANYTHING with this software, any kind of volume. The renderers are pretty powerful, sometimes you won't have to use the V-Ray plug-in.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

It's pretty hard to use the software, I learned by myself, and I had to watch a lot of tutorials. Some tools are really hard to understand.

**Recommendations to others considering Cinema 4D:**

Start maybe with another 3D software, and watch a lot of tutorials. And learn to use every tool.

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do all my 3D with this software, and all the renderings. I couldn't work without it.

  ### 6. Fast & Easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tarek S. | Creator in Arts & Entertainment, Media Production, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

My favourite aspect of the software is how user-friendly it is. Most of the time I am able to watch fast tutorials online and use what I've learned into creating something uniquely mine. I also love the fun aspect of experimenting with geometry, camera movement, texture, etc. Sometimes ending up with accidental pieces of art.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

I dislike the minimal access to discussion groups that help out with a few things that happen by mistake. Sometime sI'd have to repeat the whole thing all over again because of one mistake.

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

AfterEffects can be limited in several things so I find it very useful when I can start a scene in Cinema 4D and finish it off in AfterEffects which gives me an advantage on many other animators / motion designers.

  ### 7. Great for gorgeous renders

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Games | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

The built in rendering engine is among the best in the industry. Global illumination comes default and really makes your renders pop.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

Built in modeling tools could use some work. This is a great companion software to 3d studio max for presentation and final output.

**Recommendations to others considering Cinema 4D:**

If you want quick and beautiful rendering solutions for your 3d models or artwork, this is exactly what you should be looking at. Broadcast quality rendering at a press of a button. Flawless and dynamic lighting system, as well.

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Advertising and Promotional materials.

  ### 8. A great piece of industry standard software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Animation | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

I really liked the interface and layout, coming from using 3Ds Max, Cinema 4D felt a little more streamlined in places than Max. The material features also seemed more advanced and from what I learned from my teachers at University, its more geared towards VFX than the other 3D packages. This was evident from its unique compatibility with after effects and I really loved this feature(unfortunately I haven't found it anywhere else)
For me however, Cinema 4D ended up being a stepping stone to Maya as our University's native software was Autodesk and I simply needed something that would work on my macbook.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

There really wasn't much I disliked about this product in the time that I used it for, other than the usual problems one faces when migrating to a new software package. Slightly different way of working, particularly anal ways of doing certain things, ect.

**Recommendations to others considering Cinema 4D:**

I think Cinema 4D is a great package with a lot of unique and cool features that makes it stand out from other similar packages, and if you have that kind of money to play with, then go for it, however it will cost you an arm and a leg. I was able to use it during University as I was granted a students licence. For the common user, I would recommend downloading blender instead of paying unnecessary extortionate prices for software that's not that much more powerful.

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I tried out a lot of different 3D packages during this time, including 3Ds Max, Rhinoceros, Cinema 4D, and Blender, until I eventually settled on Maya. I gained a little insight from trying all of these and conferring with my teachers at the time.
Although each package really does the same things in different ways, It seems that each package is geared towards a certain industry, 3Ds Max seems to be a fairly generic middle ground and starting point for most novices, similar to Maya however this is geared more towards gaming assets with its compatibilities with Unity, Blender is also geared towards gaming but in more the sense of character design and creature creation. I hear Rhyno is good for more formal designs due to its deadly accuracy, being suited more for medical illustration and artwork of this nature. And as mentioned, Cinema 4D is geared towards VFX and cinematic related work.

  ### 9. Very powerful and very easy to use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David P. | freelance, Graphic Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 11, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

Very easy to use and very powerful, ideal for graphic designers, and motion graphics; of course all the benefits for 3D animations, powerful render engine, FX, Advance Lighting and compatible with third party software. The learning curve is very fast thanks to its intuitive user interface.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

So far I have not had any dislike, something significant that review, perhaps some inconsistencies in Global Illumination when rendering a video sequence

**Recommendations to others considering Cinema 4D:**

If you are interested to use 3D software and work in graphic design, motion graphics, VJ, it is the tool of choice; has no comparison

  ### 10. The easiest all in one package

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Graphic Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

The best thing about Cinema4D is perhaps the friendly interface of the software. Anyone who never worked in a 3D software can just start working on C4D without many constraints, it's as user friendly as that. As a matter of fact, C4D is known as the best 3D software for beginners.

Another great thing is the "all in one factor" - you can model, animate and render with great quality, all in one software. After i've seen what some artists could do with C4D i just had to jump in on it!

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

Maybe the fact that it's not the best software for each specific area. Although is a great 3D software, it's not the best for modelling, rendering and animation.
Top 3D artists usually use different softwares for each purpose, maybe the negative point it's not being the best at each area.

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In the advertising world, 3D is essencial. We've reached a point were just photo manipulation isn't enough for the bigger challenges - there's many projects nowadays that we don't even realise they're 3D, it's come to the point were it's more rentable to make a 3D model with a super realistic render than to arranje a photoshoot with the exact model that we want, that would envolve a posterior pos-production.
So if you wanna be on top of your advertising game, learning 3D it's a must.

  ### 11. Very intuitive, good results.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

I think the interface is very user friendly and you can achieve good results easily. It's pretty good to model preliminary sketchs but also good to render final images.
So, you have a good work flow within the same software.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

Sometimes it might be tricky to import from CAD softwares. It's actually working good with Revit through FBX, but it's brings some issues.
When you're working only with autodesk products it's way easier.

**Recommendations to others considering Cinema 4D:**

It's important to keep in mind that you won't find as much support as you would find for the competittor 3DS Max, but anyway, there are may internet web sites and forums helping with Cinema 4D issue.
I found it lighter and faster than 3DS Max. I have a feeling that C4D recquires a less powerfull machine, what means less cost.

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Preliminary images to show clients are produced very fast and impresses customers.
It's also very good when you participate in architecture contests, because Cinema 4D has tools to render simples 3Ds, for example: only outlines images, sketchs (cartoon looking).

  ### 12. I freelance work related to motion graphic videos and thus sometimes called as freeance artist.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

It's user friendly interface is really simple. Multi[le plugins and recent updates make it more usable for using in my motion graphics videos.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

No i don't dislike it. I rather use it only when i need to make quick motion graphics videos or just to keep myself updated on the new plugins.

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do motion graphic videos while freelancing for clients who are into different types of business and like business schools and media and social events and thus solve some design and communication problems.
I get paid for the work that i do and also get to know about industry trends and styles.

  ### 13. Very good 3D software

3D modeling is fast and easy
The user interface is very easy to understand and use
Very complete in terms of shape manipulation
Compatible with Keyshot and Vray
Vey good for beginners and professionals

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

Default rendered could be better.
Render times are a bit long, but that depends on the computer

**Recommendations to others considering Cinema 4D:**

Very good for people who want to start modeling
Easy to use
Fast modeling

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

3D modeling and rendering

  ### 14. best learning curve of the market

**Reviewed by:** Thomas N. | CEO & Founder, Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 19, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

fast learning curve, simple but efficient material creation, easy to setup for rendering as for animation. a lot of plugin are available, big community online, new version every year with lot of improvement.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

no fluid and smoke simulation in native format. does not support importation of some CAD files format ( from Solidworks or catia for exemple )

**Recommendations to others considering Cinema 4D:**

switching to Cinema4D is the best thing i've ever done. very easy to understand with a fast learning curve. it made simple what look hard to do before.

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

perfect sofware for still 3D rendering and animation. easy to setup, wide range of possibilities

  ### 15. Intuitive, Faster to learn

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Games | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

As someone who dips in and out of 3D, I love Cinema's UI and documentation. Everything is laid out and clearly written, and even things like shortcuts are really fast to pickup (thanks to shift+C search and one button sub-menus.) Most 3D packages get the job done, but this lets me figure things out fairly quickly.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

One thing I'm not a huge fan of is the lack of support you might see for downloadable scenes or tutorials for some stuff. This is mostly due to the long time popularity of 3DS Max and Maya who have way more history and tools built.

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The time saved in learning quick;y and finding what I need to accomplish are the main benefits to C4D over other packages to me.

  ### 16. Awesome piece of software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cody S. | Motion Graphic Artist, Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2016

  ### 18. Great tool for one-person motion design generalists.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Broadcast Media | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

C4D is a fantastic tool for smaller teams - its interface allows it to be operated by a single artist, as opposed to other tools requiring a larger team of specialists.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

The import and export options are seriously lacking. It is a pity C4D does not easily talk to VR and game development tools with sub-par OBJ and FBX feature set.

**Recommendations to others considering Cinema 4D:**

If you want to do motion design, abstract 3D, graphics and so on - it's a great tool. Easy to learn and full of features.

If you want to do VR or game dev, look elsewhere, at least in the current state of the software.

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to pre-viz sets for 360/VR film. I can quickly prototype props and light setups and render them out to try in an HMD.

  ### 19. Excellent Product

Motion graphics, user interface, modeling, texturing, lighting, rendering.
C4D is really user friendly for people who wants to start a new challenge with 3D but they don't have so much techinical skills. The software is very helpful to understand the dynamics of motion graphics, polygonal 3d modeling and animation. It works togheter in the pipeline with After Effect.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

Not too much realistic. Not phisical - based

**Recommendations to others considering Cinema 4D:**

Do lots of tutorials, download plugins.

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I realize everyday lots of motion graphics and works for many companies.

  ### 22. Great 3d package (if you have a generous budget)

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel Alejandro C. | Responsable de Calidad y Medio Ambiente / Quality & Environment Manager, Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 06, 2016

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

Fast and accurate standard render engine. Great modelling tools. Scene tree helps organize elements. Material Nodes.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

Full package is pretty expensive (but includes everything for production-qualty work).
Could use re-render of specific parts over existing image (possible, but only using an external image editor).

**Recommendations to others considering Cinema 4D:**

If budget allows, I would recommend the full package, else you may find yourself lacking a specific tool during production.

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Modelling and rendering of: products, architectural interiors / exteriors, exhibit booths.
Fast and high quality results, from ideation to final image / animation.

  ### 37. Excellent and complete 3D rendering and animation system

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stefan B. | sr. BIM Manager, Information Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 27, 2014

**What do you like best about Cinema 4D?**

Very stable and fast, complete solution for 3D modelling, rendering, texturing, sculpting, animation, scripting and compositing. It is a capable alternative to Autodesk 3ds Max or Maya.

Highlights: good integration with VectorWorks, ArchiCAD (all from Nemetschek), but also integration with After Effects, Unity (through FBX) and Photoshop (through multi-layered PSD exports).

The Physical render engine can lead to very believable lighting, with not too much grain. You can also do a hardware (GPU screen) rendering or integrate with RenderMan compliant renderers, if you want. That said, there is more than enough rendering power available as is.

The Motion Graphics (MoGraph) module is very flexible for procedural modelling and animation and so is the integrated visual scripting (called XPresso), the SDK (called Coffee for scripting), Character animation (Mocca) and even Python scripting support.

Flexible user interface, with multiple layouts you can save..
Runs on Windows and OSX and is fully capable of 64-bit memory access, GPU accelerated viewport display and multi-threaded rendering.

Complete file support and good workflow integration.

It has become free for students, but schools need to buy a maintenance license.

**What do you dislike about Cinema 4D?**

Very expensive if you need all functionality.
Y-axis is used for Upward direction (like most DCC software), which feels odd for CAD or BIM users.

Not as widely supported with books, resources and tutorials as 3ds Max or Maya. Good sources are Cineversity, Creative Cow and 3d fluff.

**Recommendations to others considering Cinema 4D:**

Very good and complete solution for rendering, animation and integration with CAD, BIM and presentations. Alternatives are 3ds Max (Windows-only) and Maya.

Very stable and reliable product. New features are welcomed (e.g. camera tracking in r16, the improved advanced rendering and the extensive Mograph and Character tools).

**What problems is Cinema 4D solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Rendering and animation BIM models. Transferring ArchiCAD models to Unity.
