**What do you like best about Chargebee?**

Chargebee is a great tool for subscription billing! Helps automate invoicing and collecting payments. I like the respoinsiveness of support and that they keep improving the portal.

**What do you dislike about Chargebee?**

Some of the settings menus aren't super intuitive. I think that could be simplified a little. And I'd love the ability to send invoices from a mobile browser (or an app, ideally) and to import usage automatically or using a zapier-type integration instead of csv files.

Helping us manage subscriptions and payments in house instead of having to communicate with different vendors for different software offerings. It has been invaluable having more access to subscription data.

Does the basic invoicing and subscription management well.
Good search function
Solid API functionality that the engineers can handle

**What do you dislike about Chargebee?**

Support is terrible. Instant chat with delayed responses, no ability to monitor numerous requests. Inconsistent answers from the various agents.
Revenue recognition on a Credit Note does not match the underlying invoice meaning the recognized revenue is always wrong.
Reporting - Limited ability to pull reports by both local and converted currency. The limited time frame on reports (only go back 2 years for some) - This is 2021 - 
MRR is provided on a daily basis (even if it is a monthly amount paid upfront for a year) and is incorrect with many business uses

**Recommendations to others considering Chargebee:**

Be warned. It appears such a simple system, but the limitations and lack of support and reporting will cause a huge amount of time to rectify

it enables us to invoice. It does not enable us to run the core metrics and we are spending a huge amount of time redoing everything in excel because chargebee does not provide accurate metrics/ underlying methodology.

**What do you like best about Chargebee?**

What I like best about chargebee is that if you are a copywriter, or service provider they offer a free method to easily get started offering your monthly services. You don't get all of the premium options, but you get enough to get started and go quite far. I also like the fact that your customers will have their own client portal, where they can cancel their subscription without you manually having to process their request  if you choose to allow them. You also get amazing email automations for free, and zapier integration. Premium has a lot more, but the free offer is actually usable to get you started.

**What do you dislike about Chargebee?**

The only thing I dislike about chargebee is their new checkout page design. Yes it works great and is super modern, but for more complicated services the traditional style checkout, where you can post customer testimonials, and more copy is better in my opinion. I also wish checkout would only show the paid trial price instead of the total amount the customer will be charged if they continue their paid trial to a full subscription. I like to do $1.00 7 day trials. I only want the customer to see $1.00 on the check out page. Not $101 dollars which is the full amount if they continue after the trial. It confuses people. I wish they would make doing paid trials more streamlined. Setting them up is a bit complex.

I wanted to offer a monthly coaching service along with my done for you copywriting offer. Some customers can't afford to hire a copywriter. However, they can afford monthly coaching to help them write better copy over the phone, or via zoom. With chargebee I was able to setup my SOS Coaching offer. I used a combination of wordpress, elementor, and chargebee to set it up. It works well with my setup. And all of this was available on their free plan as well. Their paid plan offers more. But free is doable for starting out with a monthly service.

It was helpful for invoicing flexibility for design and an initial payment gateway but we soon upgraded to a different platform that had better functionality.

It didn't have the key features we wanted for membership capabilities. The team also offered me a $25 amazon voucher to write a review which I did and then after asking a few times they never sent this across

Their starter package is generous and gives startups a great opportunity to really road test the software before committing to fixed monthly prices.

Chargebee was a great subscription management tool for our customers and team members. The automated accounts receivable notifications helped us to keep cash coming in the door.

Chargebee's reporting (Rev Rec, Deferred Rev, etc.) did not follow best practices and created a lot of friction in our strategic planning processes. We ultimately left to find a solution that can do both!

Eady to manage recurring subscriptions and monitor transactions.

First of all, it calculates MRR incorrectly when coupon codes are applied. It resulted in us having to maintain a Google spreadsheet to re-calculate MRR. The second thing is that we have to email different addresses 2-3 times to get their reply. Though their marketing emails come in regularly. Twice we had negotiation about their features and they never went towards us. Overall experience is very negative. It's the case when you would be glad to stop using the system but the cost of switching is quite high. I wish we had never integrated it into our processes.

We intended to solve the problem of tracking subscriptions and cash flow. Realized that this tool is doing it incorrect.

  ### 23. OK product with absolutely terrible support & worst onboarding I've ever experienced

**What do you like best about Chargebee?**

Great UI, lots of business models supported, great API documentation, very flexible configurations, offline payments, suited for both B2C and B2B SaaS software.

**What do you dislike about Chargebee?**

I should say that we subscribed to the Chargebee Enterprise Plan, which also includes Enterprise Support. This makes us a customer of both their highest product subscription and their highest support subscription.

Here's what we experienced:

- Onboarding took us more than 6 months, which was due to days and weeks of back and forth with support. Data migration took over two months with Chargebee support receiving a CSV file, taking 1-2 days to click an import button, and then come back to us with a list of errors, all technical and due to incompatibility with their system. Chargebee could have easily fixed all the compatibility issues within a couple of hours but rather did over 15 rounds of back and forth with us. Only after we threaten to cancel our subscription immediately, the entire process was solved within no more than 4 hours. In my entire career, I've never experienced this level of laziness.

- Integration with our platform was extremely important for us. We build on Golang, so we used the open-source Golang SDK, officially managed by Chargebee. After we realized that a couple of API calls where not available in the SDK, we added them ourselves and sent a pull request to their Github account. The pull request contained 12 lines of code (!!!), which should not take more than 15 minutes to review and merge. After we waited several days, we got the answer that this would take at least 4 weeks and we were asked to just use their Ruby library instead (???). Again, only after we threatened to cancel our subscription the entire issue was solved in no more than two hours!

- In more than 5 cases where we created tickets with detailed descriptions of technical errors, we received responses that made it 100% clear that our message was not even read and that the response would be based purely on the title of the ticket. Every time we write to support, it takes at least (!) 24 hours until we receive a reply, stretching easy questions and integrations into days and weeks of mostly stupid conversations.

All in all, the product has a promising customer experience, which in our case was 100% ruined by lousy support and the worst onboarding ever.

It's the perfect platform for everything sales. The most important part is that when manually charging someone it doesn't ask for their cvv making them feel safer.

**What do you dislike about Chargebee?**

The system, even though better than any other competitors I've used, it still is a bit archaic, while on the phone it's not easy putting in names, numbers... if they made it more simple it would be fantastic.

Sales, while on the phone with the customer, I needed software that was easy to use because sales require multitasking. And needed it to integrate well with other platforms such as Make.

Chargebee was supposed to be our source of truth for revenue and generate invoices. It only solves self-serve payments for us right now.

**What do you like best about Chargebee?**

ChargeBee has a really good subscription management platform. They can accommodate a lot of use cases and do it well. The documentation is also very thorough and provides a lot of functionality to developers.

**What do you dislike about Chargebee?**

While their software is good, their support is terrible. We signed up on their Enterprise plan which is supposed to provide a higher level of support, both in speed and effectiveness. This was a blatant lie. Their response times are sometimes fast, but most of the time are very slow. We'll wait weeks for resolution on issues, all while following up with them multiple times and receiving no response. Additionally, don't expect any follow-through on promises unless it's in writing  (and, honestly, probably not even then. Written and verbal promises I've received from every member of their team during the sales process have all failed to be met). 

Additionally, you must verify literally every functionality in your test environment is in your contract, otherwise, you won't know what they'll pull out from under you once you sign up. I had multiple functionalities that are required for our business operation that were enabled, without my asking or prompting, in the test site. Once we went to production they removed them and required we pay thousands of dollars more. These functions and limitations weren't listed on their pricing page, weren't disclosed in the contract, and weren't discussed with my sales representative. I would expect a trial to provide the same functionality as in production, especially if you're signing on with the top tier of a given plan and product, but in the case of ChargeBee nothing can be assumed.

Again, they do have good software. But, because of the way that they're set up, you're extremely dependent on their team to get anything done. They have a ton of features and functionalities that can only be enabled on their side, meaning there's no choice but to work through them. I fully expect that, if we were able to have access to all the same options and functionality their team has, we wouldn't need any support because their docs are excellent. But, because they limit customization and you're dependent on their team to follow through on promises, the whole cycle falls apart.

There's no real path for escalation to someone that can help you or drive an issue forward. In general, I get the feeling they don't care for their customers or their customers' opinions. They want a signed contract and their money; they'll create your account, but after that expect consistent struggles with your sales representative, implementation consultant, and any other entity you engage with there.

**What problems is Chargebee solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had a very decentralized and clunky billing process and needed to consolidate and streamline our B2B subscription management. ChargeBee provides a lot of this functionality, but so do other providers like Chargify. We went with ChargeBee due to what we perceived was flexibility and advanced functionality.

We haven't perceived the benefit yet, unfortunately. There's an incredible amount of manual effort going into our transition that we can't do much about. We expect it will improve soon, but without resolution on some of these issues it's really preventing us from thriving in their system.

Provides good integrations, making it easier to adapt & uses more available tools/programs to tune up our needs, provide good tech support, willing and able to help.

**What do you dislike about Chargebee?**

the lack of some international payment integrations, like PIX from Brazil, iDeal from the Netherlands,  crypto, and other important integration options that would really improve the quality of the service.
If said integrations exist, we haven't found them yet. We are considering making them on our own.

It's the best way we've found, so far, to solve our international SaaS business needs, providing us a good service, with reasonable fees, while being, if not 100%, 99% stable.

Thoroughly review the docs and understand the difference between the Javascript API and the server side API before you start implementation.

Chargebee manages the subscription/billing/cancellation process for all of our users so we don't have to.
It allowed us to launch a product without forcing us to learn about, nor implement, PCI compliant checkout and complex subscription management.

- Need more flexibility on subscription duration, sometimes people want something between 1 or 12 months for their subscription
- The pricing system: basic features are missing in the first plan which is already expensive. To add them you have to pay extra. The sales people are very rude when you ask why you should pay for something that should be in the basic plan. They tell you that they are nice to not forced us to take the second plan (which is super expensive).

It allows to manage all our payments in a single place. It offers us security and time-saving through their payment portal. It handles everything from the payment to the billing history.

UI and simplicity. Everything is set in a logical way and even if you don't have a previous experience with Chargebee it's very easy to get used to it. Simplicity and a quick learning curve make it a great tool for all transaction-based processes.

Sometimes we get issues with webhooks and API's on our separate affiliate system that is connected with Chargebee, but I'm sure it is easily fixed. We hope that these integrations issues will be solved.

Transactions and subscription management is super easy and integrating the system with our CRM was very quick and effective.  The performance of the company increased as it is really easy to navigate between our CRM and chargebee systems.

As someone who works in finance, I appreciate how Chargebee lists all important information about customer accounts and invoicing on the same page make it more efficient and intuitive.

Unfortunately, I've had a bit of trouble working with sales tax calculations and sales tax refund processing within Chargebee. Also, the refund process can be a bit inefficient and, at times, confusing because of credits added when customers change their subscription level on our service.

Chargebee works better with our service than previous solutions we've used. It offers a more straightforward interface that saves my team time and effort and simplifies our billing processes.

While the reporting is great, I'd love it to be a bit more in-depth with customization controls.  For example, I'd like to pull a report based on the last 7 days but I'm forced to show the past 30.

It's managing all of our customer subscriptions.  It's easy to restart a free trial and invoicing is all automated.  On my side the dashboards are an easy way to see the current state of our business.

The support from Chargebee is 9 times out of 10 really good. Admittedly sometimes the responses to involved queries take a few days to come back, but they do contact you to make you aware of potential delays and that they will get back to you in due course. The API is generally really good and we have had next to no uptime issues with it. Some configuration options would be better being available in the Chargebee portal than having to email Chargebee directly to change, but this is not a huge deal.

Difficult to comprehend Taxes documentation. As a developer it's difficult to both understand rules around taxes and implement a solid solution at the same time and some of the documentation, particularly around EU taxes, is difficult to decipher.

Great for startups operating on subscription model. When we launched our subscription, Chargebee was a great tool to help us qucikly setup our payments. A year later when we started offering one-off add-ons, we were looking for better website performance, conversion optimizationn, and affiliate management, Chargebee became very hectic moving forward due to its lack of customization options, so we moved away to managing payment directly through Stripe.

One thing Chargebee does is well is how they approach flexibility in searches that can be conducted for client accounts (searching capable by several fields, such as name, email address, company name).

**What do you dislike about Chargebee?**

This is less towards the main application and more towards limitations on syncing through an API to other applications (such as SalesForce or proprietary applications). So, this could be our own internal developers not accounting for communication back and forth, OR it could be a limitation of Chargebee that it only pushes information out to other applications, but doesn't accept or sync up with changes made within them.

I also don't like  how slow the search goes when looking for subscriptions instead of quickly processing through the database.

Chargebee allowed us to launch a new product base and allows for both automated and manual discounting when working with individual customers (or certain types) and adding subscriptions to their accounts.

We integrate Chargebee API webhooks into our Application. Chargebee is easily integrated with Helpscount, our Support Service Solution, which is a really big help to our operation team to perform various customer operations like Managing their Accounts, Upgrading/ Downgrading their subscription, check and download invoices.
The chargebee dashboard is excellent where it shows all primary payment stats on hand; you can also download everything in CSV Format.
On our front end customer is pretty happy with the solution, Customers are able to manage their subscription easily they can see when their upcoming renewal is happening , what's their saved card.

As an administrator its easy to see number of subscribers their upcoming renewals, easily handle coupon system. so for an enterprise Chargebee is a perfect subscription based solution to go with.

We use API weebhooks to integrate Chargebee with various portals enabling self service functionality to our customer base. These automation has allowed us to reduce staff numbers and allow the remaining team to focus efforts on improving overall customer service and customer experience. Exporting data for auditing is very straight forward and reports are saved to .csv files which is ideal for performing quick and easy comparisons using plug-ins. The Chargebee team are easy to reach and are always able to solve any issues or assist with integration with our various platforms.

**What do you dislike about Chargebee?**

I have no major dislikes but it would be nice to have greater customisation options for the layout of subscriptions and perhaps the ability to customise the layout of exports.

**Recommendations to others considering Chargebee:**

If you are looking to automate the billing aspects of your bussiness and empower customers to have more control over their subscriptions and service I would highly recommend using Chargebee as a quick and easy automation tool. Chargebee is also easily integrated with other web based tools to further enahance automation.

Chargebee has allowed us to introduce automation and customer self serving options and we have been able to offer an enhanced end user portal that is more inline with bigger organisations. The addition of automation has allowed us to modernise our business model and enhance customer experience as a result. We also have several instances of Chargebee within a single log in that allows us to provide a customised subscription offering to users in different industries and geographic regions replacing an outdated billing engine that was struggling to cope with the scope and reach of our business.

Separates subscription design from platform integration from back-office accounting and subscription sales ops.

No easy support for old-school accounting systems. In particular, if your SaaS business is embedded in a business that uses Dynamics or SAP or Oracle for accounting, you end up treating the SaaS business as a sub-ledger (Chargebee does this well, but the export/import process to merge daily G/L entries into the main books has to be monitored and audited.) If you have the freedom to use an accounting system that integrates natively, do it.

Selling an API-as-a-service to individual (academic and corporate) researchers and large corporations - where R&D success can lead to "design wins" and long-term incorporation into products.
Our service has 4 dimensions of metered usage and we need to build plans that match segment needs. We have to bill accurately and predict when upsells become a no-brainer for the customer.
With Product Catalog 2.0 - in particular, differential pricing and metered billing - we are able to create all possible plans using only 4 metered add-ons. The only decision we needed to make was all possible volume tiers for all 4 meters. Very elegant solution.

It's a very customizable tool, but easy to set up and use. I also like how it can be integrated into many tools, helping increase the seamlessness of our sales and onboarding workflows. I have also reached out to their support and success team, which has always been very helpful. I also like how you can create and easily deploy discount codes for monthly or annual promotions. We do this often with our new releases or for holidays. Overall, I would recommend Chargebee to anyone who needs a subscription and billing software in place.

There are few things that I do not like. If anything, it would be the limitations in some of their integrations, but that is on both parties, not just Chargebee. There are a few limitations depending on which paid plan you choose to go with, but there is not much that you are missing out on that would be detrimental.

We are a subscription-based company and have different payment period methods, such as annual, monthly, and quarterly. It has been much easier to manage our billing, both on a subscription level and the level of one-off purchases. Because of the user permissions, we can have our whole team have access to the platform without having to worry about them changing or accidentally taking an action that would jeopardize the company's financials. I would also recommend Chargebee to anyone looking to connect their software stack and create seamless workflows between their sales processes.

The only downside I found was not being able to add a second payment method on the free plan. Having an alternative payment method helps startups like ours grow faster and earn more.

We originally used Patreon to manage our subscriptions but their API was very difficult to implement. With Chargebee, the API was simple yet detailed and complete, and well documented. I've noticed an increase in conversions since transitioning to Chargebee and the user experience is far more detailed. The dashboard has lots of information, insights, and customers and subscriptions are very easy to manage manually when needed.

I have scowered every potential option to: 
1.   allow PayPal and credit cards, stripe in my case (there are few solutions here, but a global solution requires PayPal, it accounts for 30% of my Saas subscribers)
2.   support multiple languages (I support 50, but currently only 13 on Chargebee, still more than most competitors)
3.   could get me onboarded quickly and has good customer support (I was originally going with Brain tree only to be completely ignored and read an onslaught of terrible reviews since they recently removed their phone support). 
4.   Global tax solution (I have traffic from 250 countries, of which 60 account for 99% of the traffic. Chargebee has a pretty useful targeting solution that is globally compliant as I've found) 
5.   Can handle high subscription volumes (I have a low cost Saas product, so it will have 10s of thousands of subscribers)
6.   Could handle subscription prorations / upgrades / downgrades

Additional Unplanned Benefits:
1.   Super easy to use APIs and documentation (though I did find some bugs, but they fixed them in a reasonable time)
2.   Excellent customer support (I have two staff attending to me, Aaron and Gowri, and they have been extremely responsive. I did ask for a couple of features with regards to the language sets and bugs, and I was largely pleased with the speed at which they had them added or put them into the backlog)
3.   Customer Portal (this is an easy way for my customers to manage their information themselves, I didn't have to build it out as a result)
4.   Statistics dashboard (I'm a relatively small company in terms of global companies, so this wasn't too important)
5.   Tons of useful email flows including dunning (dunning, which is follow up when customers have unpaid invoices, recaptures about 10-20% of accounts that would have otherwise canceled)
6.   User management (very useful for sizable teams)
7.   A beautiful interface that loads quickly

**What do you dislike about Chargebee?**

Although I'm happy with the product, here are items I hope they will add or improve:
1.   A HUGE one is there is no "convenient" one time product purchase option for non-subscription users - there is a way to do this of course which is make a subscription that immediately ends after buying the one time product, and they are predominantly a Saas company, so this isn't a focus, but it would be very useful to have a way to have a one time purchase that doesn't skew the statistics
2.   There isn't a view settings role or glorified editor role that can change settings related to emails - I'm the only admin user and have to do email updating and setting changes myself.
3.  Dashboard stat for existing subscription income -  I can't conveniently see what income came from existing subscriptions, only new subscriptions and overall subscriptions
4.   A crypto subscription 3rd party integration

**Recommendations to others considering Chargebee:**

If you're looking for a Global SAAS solution or a paypal + stripe solution, this is the best option on the market as of 2021.

**What do you like best about Chargebee?**

Chargebee comes packed with a lot of features and reports out of the box. Besides you can really customize the software the way you want it. I do like their dashboards a lot - there're several types and they provide you with very actionable data to manage your business.

**What do you dislike about Chargebee?**

The only thing I don't like about Chargebee is the lack of direct integration with Klipfolio. We had to do it with REST APIs.

**What problems is Chargebee solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Chargebee is a Subscription Management platform for our SaaS products. Pricing plans, integrations with our backend, coupon codes - you name it.
