  ### 2. Caseware Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

Very efficient for working in a team setting.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

Can have sync conflicts which can create problems with the file.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When coming across problems, it is easy for you to share your workpapers with other people working on the engagement so there are multiple perspectives.

  ### 3. Great tool for data analytics!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2018

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

CaseWare IDEA is one of the best tools on the market to analyze large masses of data. As I engage with clients who have large lists of their customers, bank transactions, etc., our team has to sort through the data for errors and find mistakes. These tasks would be very tedious and time consuming, but IDEA allows us to quickly find errors in a matter of minutes.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

CaseWare IDEA has many likable features. I cannot find anything that I dislike about CaseWare IDEA other than the fact that the software can easily bog-down when sorting through data sets greater than 100,000 lines or more.

**Recommendations to others considering Caseware:**

If you are looking for a piece of software to minimize mistakes and lower your inherent risk with sorting through masses of data, CaseWare IDEA is exactly what you need!

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our team is able to bring the level of associated risk in sorting through large sets of data at a lower level than ever before. The inherent risk of missing a key piece of data is extremely high, but using a software such as CaseWare IDEA, that level of risk is brought down to something tolerable.

  ### 4. Helpful for Auditing

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2018

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

This software works great for working through audit procedures.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

Sometimes the software lags a bit when too many tabs are open.

**Recommendations to others considering Caseware:**

There is definitely a learning curve to this product, so make sure to give yourself plenty of time to learn how to use the software and become familiar with its offerings.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've used this software through audits. It helped my team and I select the right sample sizes.

  ### 5. Great way to organize all scanned documents

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kevin T. | Comptroller, Hospitality, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2018

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

The ability to create link to and from scanned documents and excels, along with the ability to store and carry forward important permanent info within the CW file all in one place.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

CW files occasionally corrupt during unpacking, and have to restore from backup.

**Recommendations to others considering Caseware:**

Potential time savings in documents searching and sorting

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All info in once place, without the need to browse different (online or offline) folders

  ### 6. Caseware for Large Accounting Firm

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Furniture | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2017

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

What I most liked about Caseware was the format of the working papers, the ability to create and clear comments and the integrated capabilities with programs like Excel. I also liked being able to see prior versions of files in case you made a change and then at a later date wanted to go back and get the old version.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

There were no features for Caseware that I found negative. The software worked great for all of the clients I worked on. The file can take time to download if it is large in size (usually a lot of PDF's in something like a perm file). We had some client's that we had a separate Caseware file for just the perm file.

**Recommendations to others considering Caseware:**

This is a great tool for external auditors.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Organization of audit workpapers and the ability to link client trial balances to excel. Caseware connector is an Excel addon that can pull balances and journal entries based on formulas into audit workpapers themselves for ease of reviewing and verifying balances.

  ### 7. User Friendly

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 16, 2018

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

Works great for our audit clients. Very user friendly. Well organized. Updates are sufficient.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

Sometimes a little too much information depending on the industry.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No business problems. Benefits have been user friendly and great organization. It is a great file for multiple people to be using at the same time.

  ### 8. Easy to Use and Great Program

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2018

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

Very user friendly. Very organized. Updates are frequent. Support is quick to resolve issues.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

Sometimes a little overwhelming with too many industries.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Great organization of engagement workpapers. Easy to train others on.

  ### 9. Great tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kris B. | Director of Business Intelligence, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 28, 2017

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

The organization of workpapers and sign off capability

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

It serves the purpose I need it to. There isn’t anything I don’t like.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Multiple sign off and consistent storage of year end workpapers

  ### 10. Glitchy

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Taylor H. | Assurance Services Supervisor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 20, 2016

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

I like that I am able to see the trial balance and the working papers without closing one or the other. I like that I am able to easily create automatic reports such as grouping schedules for each audit area, I like that Caseview documents are able to be edited by staff to tweak templates to the letters we need for each client. I like being able to link balances and other engagement information into excel and word documents using Caseware connector, however this feature is probably the glitchiest of all.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

I dislike that the formulas and formatting used within the Caseview documents do not match the equivalent function in Excel. Also, when we purchased the product, a deleted workpaper went to a place within the software called the recycle bin and could be recovered. Caseware has now done away with the recycle bin and a deleted document is gone forever. Furthermore, you cannot print a departmental income statement from an automatic document. You have to make an income statement for each department using that department's context and print them all to get a departmental picture. Smartsync repairs never work. If you have a sync issue that cannot be resolved by confirming one version over the other, there is seemingly no way to resolve it.

**Recommendations to others considering Caseware:**

Why does Caseware continue to issue software updates without testing them so we are constantly installing patches? Why do they take away useful features of the Working Papers product?

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The creation of an audit template from which we can create new client files and push out changes to standard workpapers for an industry has allowed us to streamline and make sure we are issuing a consistent product.

  ### 11. Phenomenal Auditing Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2017

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

Caseware is a great tool for keeping trial balances organized.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

Not the most user friendly and could improve with detailed instructions.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use caseware to organize trail balances into lead sheets for auditing.

  ### 12. CaseWare is user friendly and effective

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2017

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

The best part about CaseWare is that it requires minimal training; upon starting work as a staff auditor, I was able to easily begin using the software with minimal direction. However, over the course of two years I am still learning tricks/shortcuts.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

The latest update to the software no longer allows you to transfer one tab within Excel to another workbook; it can be resolved but was not simple to figure out. I use this function frequently and have to turn the setting off to do so each time I open CaseWare.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As an auditor, we utilize Working Papers to complete the working papers of a financial institution which then we turn into drafted financial statements; it is necessary to rely on the software to be secure and accessible!

  ### 13. Caseware Working Papers

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Harry L. | Manager, Accounting, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

Specialized for audit and assurance engagements, a very powerful document manager and project tracker that allows teams to embed files in a document tree and track progress through preparer and reviewer sign-offs. All within one easy to access window listing all the files included. It allows collaboration through multiple users being able to access the same project file at once, including over networks. The program itself is very responsive with little delays if working through an intranet or local storage. The compression feature allows all the documents in the file to be packaged into a single, smaller file for easy transfer through email, removable storage, etc. The file can be locked down once it has been completed. It also allows a sign-out or check-out feature of either the entire file or individual files for working offline or away from the master file, and the files can be signed back in at a later date.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

As multiple users enter into a single project file, they can each edit separate embedded files but usually cannot collaborate on the same file at once. Multiple users will also slow the program down significantly, to the point of being unusable if over an internet connection. The program is also more of a file manager than file storage, meaning the files listed in the main window are only links to the actual files. Files can be deleted outside of CaseWare Working Papers and thus the links will break. There is also a chance for corruption when using the compression feature as well as when transferring or working remotely through a network connection; the program does not appear to have a fail safe for network disconnects in mid-transfer.

**Recommendations to others considering Caseware:**

This is a highly effective project management tool. However, actual document editing and markups depends on other programs such as Microsoft Office. CaseWare Working Papers stores and tracks the documents related to an engagement after they have been created by other programs.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CaseWare Working Papers provides a very easy engagement management process for electronic files. All documents can be listed in a single view and there are visual cues for showing what has been signed off as complete and reviewed, and the file can be locked down upon completion of issuing audit reports. It is a highly effective assurance engagement tool. It also has features for reviewers to leave review notes for the prepare to address, all with easy to see visual cues on where review notes are outstanding to be addressed.

  ### 14. Easy to use for tax accounting and returns.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 24, 2017

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

I like that Caseware allows accountants to easily import and export information. The process of importing a trial balance and preparing journal entries is easy. It is also easy to rollover the file from year to year and to track information.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

I dislike that each version of Caseware results in buttons located in different areas. There are certain aspects that are not user friendly. There are also several ways of doing different processes, which can confuse new users.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am solving tax and accounting issues by organizing client information and adjusting financial statements. Caseware provides an easy process to keep information organized and to see the how various transactions change the financial statements.

  ### 15. Caseware working papers is an excellent document management and accounting software.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tom B. | Financial Analyst, Food Production, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2016

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

Caseware working papers makes is easy to complete any kind of accounting assurance engagement; from Basic to complex. Features which work well include: trial balance import, general ledger reports, consolidation, mapping and leadsheets, adjusting journal entries, bookkeeping features, and year end close. My Company (large public practice accounting firm) has used Caseware for a very long time and it continues to serve our needs well.

My firm used Caseware trial balance reports to discuss with our clients their financial results and the adjustments necessary for tax and other purposes. Those reports function well for our needs.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

Caseware is a very complex software and has numerous features, it takes time to understand how to use everything. To aid in learning how to use the software Caseware International had created a series of how to guides which my firm utilized.

**Recommendations to others considering Caseware:**

I highly recommend Caseware to any others looking for a software which allows for multiple users to complete all aspects of public practice accounting functions.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Caseware allowed for my company to have multiple users access the same file to complete multiple levels of review with all documents embedded in the software to facilitate a paperless environment. This allows for significant time savings for my firm.

  ### 16. A very effective system for file organization, but a bit bogged down

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 30, 2016

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

The way you are able to lay out files in Working Papers is great—you can see things in the way that is most intuitive, in a drop down format that you can't in normal Windows (or Mac) Explorer (Finder). It's very easy to re-order, assign references, rename, etc.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

There are a LOT of features packed in that are not necessary for a lot of day to day users who use it mainly for file organization. These can bog it down and also get in the way. It's a trade-off to the fact that it's relatively customizable and has a lot of options/features.

**Recommendations to others considering Caseware:**

Consider whether you are using some of the accounting features. Otherwise, while it's great for file organization, it can sometimes be very much unnecessary.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Need to be able to lay out working papers for a tax file. This allows you to quickly and intuitively organize these files in a way that speeds up your opening and closing (repeatedly) various working papers and jumping between things.

  ### 17. Easy-to-Use Accounting Software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2016

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

Easy management of documents and chart of accounts, from notice to readers to review engagements. It is very simple to use and quick to learn, especially the bookkeeping tools and the ability to making adjusting journal entries. It also manages the engagement letter and is easy for managers and partners to review the file.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

The number of features can be overwhelming at first, but is explored through use of the software.

**Recommendations to others considering Caseware:**

Try the product if you work with electronic or paper documents, and would require software to manage financial statements and tax documents all in one place.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Maintaining documentation for assurance engagements (notice to readers, review engagements), and implementation with tax software is very convenient for bookkeepers/accountants to complete both assurance and tax services.

  ### 18. Great integration and powerful tools for managing engagements

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2016

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

Being able to create child copies and merge them with parent copies after creation.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

Limited amount of practical training offered.

**Recommendations to others considering Caseware:**

Is the standard for accountants.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Engagement management - all documentation necessary for an engagement stored in a paperless format.

  ### 19. Used on a daily basis to organize audit files. Quick, easy, no BS software.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2016

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

Does the job without over-complicating functions.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

Current year trial balance information is prone to accidental overwriting and the colour schemes could be improved to aid in following line items.

**Recommendations to others considering Caseware:**

Solid product for small to mid-sized audit engagements.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Caseware Working Papers solves the problem of maintaining organized electronic audit files.

  ### 20. Very difficult to learn product

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2015

**What do you like best about Caseware?**

I like the finished product that Caseware provides when data has been entered correctly.

**What do you dislike about Caseware?**

The interface is not user friendly at all. Each time I open this software I spend more time trying to figure out how to use it correctly than I spend actually completing whatever task I have at hand.

**Recommendations to others considering Caseware:**

This product has a long way to go. I think having some kind of manual with it would greatly improve accessibility.

**What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This product puts out a clean version of financial statements that are easy to use. It can also be rolled forward and used year after year.
