There are some formulas which you can use and some macros but is hard to use, almost not documentation available online and there are better alternatives like KNIME which is free and open-source **What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?** MUS sample calculation and some basic joins between tables. ### 5. There is always numerous ways to do things and you typically figure out the harder ways first and then learn the easier ways in time or from a heads up from someone else. It can get messy when two people are in one workpaper at once and making changes simultaneously to then have to go back and decide which copy to keep and then trace back to make any needed updates from the other version. **What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?** Keeping audit documentation all in one place and to be accessible for the audit team. It is definitely helping increase efficiencies and spurs on productivity for our assurance practice. ### 6. The integration into CaseWare Cloud has allowed for better collaboration and remote work, especially through the Covid-19 pandemic with us all working from home. **What do you dislike about Caseware?** My only complaint so far is that when I have "tags" visible in the Working Papers document manager, scrolling is slightly less responsive than I would like. I love the fact that it seamlessly provides key insights in trends , patterns and allows financial audits to be tailored to the specified need of the audit. It allows transferring of data from other sources to CasewareIDEA making it easier to carry out an audit. It has the more than just the standard tests needed to conduct a Financial Audit and also implements a risk-based sample model. It works in conjunction with Adapt IT and allows us to facilitate the audit from the consolidation phase to advanced analyses phase for any financial audit or business analysis. It includes project management and billing software. **What do you dislike about Caseware?** It does require training to use it to the full capacity however that is actually within the norm for any advance business software. It would require training for the usage and there are so many functions that it would require continuous training but once that is facilitated there is no going back to your old audit software I suppose personally. **What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?** It resolves the problem of having to use a variation of software to conduct one Audit procedure. It provides a suite of tools to integrate and allow the audit process to be conducted. The reports are indepth and can be extracted from any intuitive interface which is what we require and the standards are in place for usage in South Africa. It identifies trends ,patterns to detect fraud. It detects redundant data and much more. ### 9. The software is also fairly inexpensive compared to other applications which is why our company switched this year. **What do you dislike about Caseware?** You can't really customize the working trial balance. The columns are already pre-set and the order is actually different from what I'm used to. We would use a different program to hold the workpapers for audit engagements, but would use Caseware for review engagements. ### 14. All modern solutions far outclass this antiquated technology. Signoffs work? I guess that's a plus? But they only work if the file syncs properly which has failed on multiple occasions. I would only recommend this product if you had absolutely no other option to retain and protect audit workpapers. **What do you dislike about Caseware?** The product fails at the following: - Automation and clean seamless connection of documents and workpapers - Syncing is not consistent (there are tons of sync errors, file corruption, errors - Collaboration on files cannot be facilitated. Only one person can make edits at a time. This is not efficient. - Lockdown procedures are tedious - It seems like when the entire audit team is in the file, the probability of sync issues (not sync conflicts but just actively syncing to make sure all files are current in real time) just increases exponentially to the point I just say "Well I guess the file is broken" **What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?** This software only creates problems. I would prefer to use AuditBoard or other solutions that integrate well in the cloud or offer the ability to view workpapers without having to open the relevant program. I understand there are benefits to having an established tool to seal off and finalize audit engagements. But this tool is filled with problems where I would not say that the requirements are consistently met. The only benefit is seeing a clean signoff but again that only shows up if the files sync correctly. In this day and age, this should be fully seamless. ### 15. For example we can analyze the entire data set of journal entries, rather than selecting a random sample. Everything is planned, performed and reviewed on screen. They are doing plenty to keep your tasks running efficiently but they could do a little better. **What do you dislike about Caseware?** I am not a fan of some of their templates they seem a bit outdated, they could do more to bring them more up to date. Not the easiest software to learn, it will take some time to pick up, so it is not user friendly. **Recommendations to others considering Caseware:** As much as I think Working Papers was a good product I think there are better ones out there. It's not that easy to use either, they should make it a little more user friendly. It does a great job of integrating the process between workpapers and turning them into a usable tax return for your clients. You can export the information easily and you can turn the trial balances into PDFs which is great for moving it between different storage applications. Additionally, it's very flexible in that it's integrated with many other applications and allows for you to work with your business depending on your needs and the needs of your client. **What do you dislike about Caseware?** The only thing I can consider is that sometimes the locations of things can be a bit unclear but this is definitely something that becomes easier with time and experience. **Recommendations to others considering Caseware:** If you need a good place to organize all of your files and make it easier to export client records for creating tax returns, you will be very happy with caseware. It takes all information that you need and puts it in an easy to use format that you can access in many different ways across all of your organization. If you're an organization with many users as well, it will be extremely useful and is pretty easy to pick up and use as a new staff. This is particularly true for any accounting firms looking to pick up the software. **What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?** The main problems that I'm solving with work papers is attempting to turn raw data into usable information for clients. Caseware’s IDEA software is one of the best accounting programs out there for auditing, data discovery and visualisation purposes. The program allows us to effectively present results, anomalies and trends to the companies we audit, for example, and improves the client’s experience, by reducing time spent on data reformatting, due to its data analysis features. I have had a positive experience using this software, which I expect to use throughout a large part of my career. **What do you dislike about Caseware?** The software can have some responsiveness issues around data transfer, particularly if you are working through a remove server. **What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?** Caseware’s IDEA is a solution to implementing regulatory audits and compliance. It helps a lot if you work through the tutorials and practice getting to know the software. This will make it much easier when utilizing the program for real life scenarios. Also, I am able to use it on my Mac (after installing Microsoft though VirtualBox) which is much more convenient than having to find a Microsoft compatible computer. **What do you dislike about Caseware?** This program takes a while to get used to. It was extremely confusing at first and very glitchy. Also, I wasn't able to get it to download properly on my Windows 10 computer, so I had to go a round about way to have it installed on my Mac. This took quite a bit of time and patience to get it working. Now that it's downloaded, it works properly for the most part, but there are still some issues with compatibility here and here. It would be great if a Mac-compatible version was offered in the future! **Recommendations to others considering Caseware:** If the program seems confusing and difficult to use at first, don’t give up! Practice is definitely key to using this software. Read through the tutorials and you’ll become familiar with it in no time! **What problems is Caseware solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am using CaseWare IDEA to solve the problem of having to recreate audits over and over. Instead, IDEA allows us to set up reoccurring audits which saves us time and also eliminates our errors. It's great because we can share data amongst team members despite being in different places at different times. IDEA makes it extremely easy to sort through data and conduct analysis on the data we are working with. This program helps us to be much more efficient & thorough with our analysis. ### 26. Layouts are customizeable. Once you understand the software itself things become more intuitive. CaseWare connecting is great to automate things inside of excel. Very nice visual representation of all documents, issues, and sign-offs. Other file manager systems I've seen are essentially just plain text lists. This makes navigating very easy. **What do you dislike about Caseware?** There is a steep learning curve. Some items are not super intuitive at first. CaseView lacks some features of other word processors. There are often 5 different ways to do different things, which means repeating something or figuring out how to do something can take a lot of trial and error. The software worked great for all of the clients I worked on. The file can take time to download if it is large in size (usually a lot of PDF's in something like a perm file).
