  ### 8. Amazing! Easy to use with quick results!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Commercial Real Estate | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 21, 2020

**What do you like best about CARTO?**

I love carto. It has made learning how to apply spatial analysis very easy. This is coming from someone who has no experience with data / spatial analysis. I come from a purely architectural background and learned how to use SQL from carto. I also took on a bit of CSS / HTML from using the carto builder interface. It definitely does not replace an actual background in data analysis / gis / computer science, but I don't think I would've learned it as quickly without carto. It is also very aesthetic and easy to use compared to qgis or arcgic

**What do you dislike about CARTO?**

I think there are things that can be improved in the interface. Like having limited layers depending on the user and sometimes with styling labels / tooltips -- It can be a bit clunky to use.
I really wish it wasn't so limited to use. The community is small in the sense that the people that do know how to use carto are limited to business users or people who work in carto. Looking up information can be difficult when you do not know where to begin. It's a good thing customer assistance responds pretty quick as there are times when certain mapping analysis are needed asap.

**What problems is CARTO solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We mostly used it to show information in a spatial format. Sometimes it makes all the difference to see something as a bubble on a map versus seeing a full dataset.

I would really love this to have a way to connect to Tableau as we are leaning in towards using this for its ease of use. Carto definitely beats tableau in terms of aesthetics and flexibility. Having a way to integrate this would be amazing!

  ### 9. In our company we had the opportunity to use Carto in our business with a big success.

**What do you like best about CARTO?**

The speed to have the information we ask for the website

**What do you dislike about CARTO?**

There aren't any inconvenient at the moment and I can't say anything bad of it.

**What problems is CARTO solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We can get all we need asap and we have a good experience with all the people who we had interactions with

  ### 14. Great for creating eye-catching maps really fast

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manuela B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2017

**What do you like best about CARTO?**

I love its aplicability. I have created numerous maps with Carto in the last year. For point features, you can use any icons imaginable and display all kinds of informations in the pop-ups. I also created many heatmaps or progress maps that showed our team's editing work in specific cities or regions.

**What do you dislike about CARTO?**

I used to hate the new interface, but once I got used to it - it's ok. I think I would still go back to the previous one.

**Recommendations to others considering CARTO:**

Give it a shot, you will like it!

**What problems is CARTO solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Carto is great for creating maps for presentations, I presented my internship project using maps created with Carto. I also created interactive maps for overseas partners to see our progress with different spatial data licenses or to send drivers to specific locations in order to collect data for our mapping purposes.

  ### 15. Extremely intuitive design for interactive maps

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Margaret M. | Senior Research Associate, Think Tanks, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 13, 2017

**What do you like best about CARTO?**

As someone with relatively little GIS knowledge Carto has been an amazing tool. I've been able to create very interactive maps (with pop up windows, google street view pictures, filtering widgets, and multiple layers users can turn off and on) that have been very popular.

**What do you dislike about CARTO?**

I wish Carto had an easy analysis tool to filter one layer by another. It's very possible such a tool exists and I just havent been able to figure out how to do it.

**What problems is CARTO solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I work at a small research non-profit interested in housing and urbanism in Seattle. We've used Carto to answer several questions about housing in Seattle and the maps have been very popular and easy ways for us to share visually some of our ideas on how to make housing more affordable.

  ### 16. Best Digital Geospatial Mapping and Cloud Hosting Service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2017

**What do you like best about CARTO?**

Ease of access and speed. For a digital mapping platform, Carto is a powerhouse of a client that is both intuitive and efficient (in time and resources). I am able to upload and operate datasets quickly (along with exporting full projects); and, customize the features with relative comfort - including adding and removing without too much complication. It is comparatively the best platform I've used in the years I've been mapping, and they have been among the most helpful hands on assistance when it comes to snafus while working.

**What do you dislike about CARTO?**

The most significant critique I have with CARTO is that I wish there could be more than eight layers when designing maps, as there are times when it's critical to juxtapose many different layers in identifying and judging patterns.

**Recommendations to others considering CARTO:**

Others should recognize the scale of their work and discuss how that capacity can be addressed with the support team. It's best that we recognize and adapt in the beginning planning stages of engagement to make our progression with the software more efficient and optimal.

**What problems is CARTO solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are utilizing CARTO to develop a digital repository for geospatial information that we are collecting in the field with partners, collaborators, and local residents for our social laboratory platform and programming.

  ### 17. CARTO has helped us find new ways to visualize spatial data and connect analysis to a broad audience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Public Policy | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 11, 2017

**What do you like best about CARTO?**

-Creates attractive maps with easy-to-use interface
-Back-end development features are user friendly and easy to learn even with limited GIS or programming experience
-The ability to edit in HTML and CSS gives the opportunity to customize the end product design and provides a high level of flexibility and control
-CARTO is always innovating and adding new features and functionality

**What do you dislike about CARTO?**

-It would be nice if there were some expanded analytics on map usage
-It would be helpful if there was additional documentation on how to use HTML or CSS in CARTO. Currently, users largely have to figure it out themselves.

**What problems is CARTO solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Previously when communicating spatial data to stakeholders, we could only use static maps in paper or PDF form. With CARTO, we are able to produce web-based maps which has improved our ability to distribute these maps to a broader audience. Also, these interactive web-based maps also have improve audience engagement.

  ### 18. Location Intelligence at its best

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dillon M. | Housing Informatics Designer, Think Tanks, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 11, 2017

**What do you like best about CARTO?**

CARTO is extremely easy to use, both for the beginning user and advanced user. With the introduction of the Builder, CARTO has made it easier for all users to tap into the potential of the platform.

**What do you dislike about CARTO?**

The changes made to the legend section have made it a little harder to change the legends on the fly, or customize easily.

**What problems is CARTO solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use CARTO as a tool to illustrate questions and answers that we discover through our research. It allows us to easily display data to our audience in an interactive and meaningful way. CARTO has made it much easier for us to use maps as a policy tool.

  ### 19. Carto the best for data mapping

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elliott R. | Audience Engagement & Data Editor, Broadcast Media, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 05, 2017

**What do you like best about CARTO?**

I like the flexibility with cartocss to create dynamic data maps that we use to visualize government data for investigative reporting purposes.

**What do you dislike about CARTO?**

There's a bit of a learning curve for some of the terms, but the company's blog makes for pretty descent documentation.

**Recommendations to others considering CARTO:**

Read up on the blog and the cartocss. Definitely check out map designs done by others on either the company's blog or citylab.com.

**What problems is CARTO solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're able to visualize trends and problems in Chicago using government data. The maps generated from Carto are powerful visual aids on many of our investigative projects.

**Reviewed Date:** September 11, 2017

**What do you like best about CARTO?**

It is easy to use yet very powerful. Within a couple of hours, you can get a beautifully looking web map live. No need for coding or mapping knowledge as long as you understand your data. The advanced styling and analysis tools can get you even further.

**What do you dislike about CARTO?**

The platform would be even better if it had some more advanced cartographic elements.

**Recommendations to others considering CARTO:**

It is worth getting it.

**What problems is CARTO solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Visualising the problem of landmines and explosive remnants of war in war torn countries as well as the positive impact of our clearance efforts.

  ### 21. Carto makes web based GIS and interactive mapping fun and easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 30, 2017

**What do you like best about CARTO?**

Ability to drag & drop various GIS data formats into their interface (they're auto-magically imported into a PostGIS database); robust set of APIs such as the SQL API; Javascript library for integration with web mapping libraries such as Leaflet and Google Maps.

**What do you dislike about CARTO?**

The new Builder interface takes some getting used to, but Carto has plenty of tutorials to help you learn.

**Recommendations to others considering CARTO:**

If you have large amounts of GIS data and either want to avoid or don't have access to other online services such as ArcGIS online, it's a great solution.

**What problems is CARTO solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mapping environmental contamination in north Brooklyn, New York; mapping over 1 million automobile crashes and their attributes for all of New York City.

  ### 22. Great Cloud Mapping Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael G. | Director, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 09, 2017

**What do you like best about CARTO?**

The ease of dropping in ESRI Shapefiles, Open Street Map data or all the other supported formats to quickly be able to visualize the information in a variety of ways. Their BI tools are great and constantly getting better and better through their continues integration. I also like that CARTO can be a database to manage projects and not only geospatial data. I also like that there are integration tools to many programming languages as well as QGIS.

**What do you dislike about CARTO?**

Faster response when working with 50 million records or more. The ability to not be able to directly connect to the PostGIS database direction via IDE's. There are many wonderful drivers and libraries to help get data in and out but does cause some workarounds when need to deal with many database changes. These issues are not faults of the SaaS but more on us, trying to push the limits of what is possible with their service.

**Recommendations to others considering CARTO:**

Really read over the docs and make sure you understand that there is many more things than just the BI dashboard that makes CARTO a great service.

**What problems is CARTO solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We help customers in many industries. We focus on scientific modeling via dynamic interactive visualizations., using CARTO for near real-time maps for thousands of viewers, interactive touch screen maps in lobbies, site location and many other uses. We have realized that while it is great as a BI/LI tool, the API interface allows clients and developers like us build limitless possibilities.

  ### 23. CARTO = New Generation of Location Intelligence

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bobby S. | Maps, Financial Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 13, 2017

**What do you like best about CARTO?**

CARTO is hands-down the best geo-visualization tool in the industry. Beyond their stellar product, the executive and senior management team is one of the most thoughtful and engaged teams that I've collaborated work.

**What do you dislike about CARTO?**

CARTO is on the cutting edge of technology and their product evolves quickly. Like most young companies, quality issues come up from time to time due to the rapid nature of product evolution. That said, they respond immediately and allow for open-source contribution, so bugs/issues never last long.

**Recommendations to others considering CARTO:**

Collaborate! CARTO is a dynamic team that is growing quickly...they want to work together and/or hear your feedback!

**What problems is CARTO solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using CARTO to bring Location Intelligence to the decision makers of the world. We focus on delivering a simple search-and-visualize application that provides macro insights, data discovery, and workflow for executing research and investment actions.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 13, 2017

**What do you like best about CARTO?**

Our organization appreciates that the platform makes very technical information available to the community since it creates a bridge between the traditional geographical systems and the communication part of this information.
It also has several and suitable options to categorize information, as well as to put layers, images, and text in the maps which is usually very difficult to incorporate in an online platform without coding.

**What do you dislike about CARTO?**

We would like the possibility to put more layers of information per map and more space for datasets.

**What problems is CARTO solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are making the geographical information that we are creating available and open to everyone interested in it, through our online website
